Visited for lunch. Nice and quiet. Food good but portion size was a little small. Also ordered onion rings which never arrived. Overall good. Would visit again.

Had a great meal at the Bowling Green. Late decision on Tuesday night to go out. The restaurant was a welcoming place and the service and food were excellent. Will be back.

Brought my grandparents for lunch. Food was amazing, dessert was the best my 90 year old grandad has ever had. Service was swift and staff were pleasant, kind and helpful. Great selection of food at lunchtime and good selection of beers. Definitely bringing family back again.

Really easy to book and comprehensive menu. Food was really good and didn't take too long. A bit more attentive service and we probably would have bought more drinks, but it wasn't too bad. Overall good value for money.

We went for Sunday lunch with the family and we really enjoyed our meal, I had the mushrooms and stilton starter which was gorgeous and the main Sunday lunch was great,crispy potatoes, plenty of veg, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pud. There were 5 of us and we all agreed it was lovely. Service was good too.

It was okay.. it’s basic traditional roast , nothing fancy, so perfect if you like things simple and plain. The restaurant it’s self needs updating and refreshing as it smelt rather like a home. Wouldn’t rush back ., but it was pleasant

Our recent visit to The Bowling Green was exactly what we were looking for - a relaxed evening with some pub grub classics. We decided on a burger and a Caesar salad, which were both on point. Euan, our server, struck the right balance of attentiveness without being intrusive. He was friendly and ensured our orders were taken care of promptly. The burger was a classic delight - juicy and full of flavor. Paired with a side of crispy fries, it hit the spot. The Caesar salad, fresh and well-dressed, provided a nice contrast. While we only tried a couple of items from the menu, it's clear that The Bowling Green offers dependable pub fare. If you're in the mood for some comfort food in a relaxed setting, this is a good choice. Kudos to Euan and the staff for a pleasant evening.

Pot Luck! We were in the area & needed food, called in , yes they could find us a table (it was busy, a Tuesday evening). All excellent, toilets spotless, very apsatisfied.

So myself and my wife called in after visiting friends and did not expect much.Our expectation changed immediately as we awaitied a table in the restaurant. Our greeter Euan met us and seated us with a smile,genuine warmth and a willingness to make sure we felt comfortable and welcome despite a busy restaurant. We ate steak and gammon which again was delivered with a smile and professionalism rarely seen in the modern service industry. The food was really great but we were so impressed by our service that it led the conversation on our drive back home. Exceptional quality of food, service and hospitality. I was amazed by not only the number of dishes available on the menu for a small town pub but the quality, portion size and prices were also a pleasant surprise. The lamb dish was the best I've ever tasted! Karen and her staff provided an excellent service for our party of 13 on a busy Friday night. The Bowling Green is definitely a place I will be going back to!

Been here plenty of times but never for a Sunday lunch. I had beef and my Mum had pork and every mouthful was delicious. Compliments to the chef.

Ok …. But… Service was lovely. Food was a mixed bag. Mine was cold. As we were celebrating a birthday I didn’t want to spoil the lunch by saying anything. They were out of lots of the desserts we ordered. The waitress couldn’t have been more sympathetic- not her fault. She did her best.

One wonders about the standards of other diners. For us 3 it was average. Nice setting though, but service rather brusque. "No specials staff shortage" waitress impatient as I dithered over choice. Haddock and Chips rather greasy. Pork belly looked good. Desert ice cream cheap and nasty!!

Really lovely Christmas meal. Food was wonderful and a good menu. You could also choose from the non-seasonal menu, which was better for my Son. Service was excellent. They were able to accommodate us even though half the party was stuck in traffic and an hour late for our booking. Thank you very much.

We popped in for an evening meal. We were quite late and the place was busy, despite it being a weekday. As a result aspects of service were a little slow. Given that, overall it was fine though. Servers were helpful and friendly.Whilst you might expect standard pub grub, the menu has some more interesting items. Prices were a little elevated to match perhaps. The items chosen were all enjoyed - the handcut chips in particular.

After a long break from eating out, we booked a Sunday Lunch for our first family reunion lunch since the start of Covid-19. Our grand children who had travelled from France with their Mum and Dad wanted a Sunday Roast with Yorkshire Pudding. and were very happy with the choice The welcome was warm and friendly, the service first class and the food met all our exceptions. In fact we though it was the best Sunday Roast Lunch we had ever had in a pub.

We visited midweek for lunch as my Daughter and Granddaughter were glamping in priors Hardwick. We were made very welcome and enjoyed an excellent lunch. The food and service were first class and would definitely recommend 👍

We went when it was very busy, but the service was still very good. Fairly standard pub food, but all freshly prepared and very good. I liked the building, it was well laid out and felt COVID secure.

Walked in to a cosy atmosphere and friendly staff. All the rules followed to stay safe, Enjoyed the starter and the meal of the day ,finished off with the desert. We would go back sooner than later.

We visited for the evening during the eat out to help out scheme. We found the food to be delicious and the service was ok. Good covid measures in place which helped us feel at ease for our first meal out. Only thing that dropped a rating was we were overcharged on our bill which we didn’t notice until we got home.

Spent couple days on friends nearby Napton canal boat and this pub came recommended. Not disappointed. Seven of us and all very happy. All agreed Salmon, crayfish, burgers and veg option delicious. Staff attentive and friendly and overall lovely atmosphere.

We enjoyed a delicious meal here with friends last Friday evening. For starters, we all shared the homemade pate and chutney, served with lightly toasted ciabatta. It was super! The mains, three of us had the sea bass, which was cooked to perfection, as were the accompanying greens. My husband chose the belly pork, with crispy crackling, and my friend had the steak and ale pie, plenty of filling, with rich gravy, and a melt in your mouth shortcrust topping. Thank you BG, we will definitely return!

We returned to the bowling green for lunch today after having come a year ago for dinner and having great food. Sadly the experience today was very different which is such a shame! Staff were clearly disgruntled and overheard moaning about the type of people eat out to help out has brought in (I understand they must be under a lot of pressure but to moan in front of customers isn’t professional-were there to help out the business!).The burger we ordered was dry but the biggest let down for us was the desserts. We had the waffle and sticky toffee pudding, the waffle tasted so plain and was served cold and the sticky toffee pudding tasted like an overdone microwave sponge such a shame after such amazing performance last year and us so highly recommending it to friends.

Our family took advantage of the eat out to help out scheme and enjoyed a delicious meal here. The service was excellent and the food was also. I enjoyed the belly pork, mustard mash and broccoli. The only way it could have been improved would have been a crackling top. Otherwise - delicious!

Ordered delivery of a margarita pizza and was so shocked when it had onions all over the base, absolutely disgusting! Hunters chicken also couldn’t be eaten!!

This very lively local pub is situated in the heart of the market town of Southam. Has a good selection beers, ales, wines and gins along with a nice laid back, relaxed atmosphere. Will return to sample the food in the impressive looking dining room. Worth a visit!

I like this restaurant very much, but under the table is a disgusting there’s gum and old chips stuck to it. Over all brilliant

Fabulous Sunday roast great service and friendly staff. Popped in and we were accommodated even though we didn’t book. Must say we are local and what makes this place is a consistent good level of service and great food.

We were looking somewhere for a light lunch on Saturday. The cafes in Southam were all full so we decided to try The Bowling Green.As we had a dog with us we checked first to see if dogs were welcome and told and were informed that they were in the bar. The lunch time menu was ample. We ordered soup and sandwich which also came with chips and salad, two sandwiches also chips and salad included and a jacket potato which came with a generous filling and salad. The food was very good quality and the bread was good proper bakery bread. All of the staff were very friendly and efficient. Prices were very reasonable. We were all very impressed and will certainly be returning.

We have been going to the Bowling Green with friends for an number of years, but only recently for food. Every time we’ve been the food has been great. Karen is always friendly and great with our children.Most recently been for Sunday lunch. Selection of roasts, really good Yorkshire’s and gravy, great roasties and gluten free option. Brill local pub.

To be fair there isn't a great deal of choice in the immediate area, but the Bowling Green is one of the few decent options. I have eaten here on many occasions, as a couple and as part of a larger party. The food is generally very good (sometimes excellent) and the bar prices not unreasonable. Service in the restaurant can be hit and miss and on occasions I have had to leave my meal half way through to go to the bar, so consider ordering a couple of drinks to take you through your meal on being seated. Recommended and I'll be back...

Came for a meal with family, enjoyed a great Steak and Kidney Pie, good service, good food, good beer, good service.

Our friends showed up and we decided last minute to go out for food. Choices good, nice table good staff. We enjoyed the food and a good ambience. Service was a little slow but they were very busy. This did not detract from our evening. All in all, a good experience. Not visited for a while but will be back soon.

We came here today as our first choice place to eat wasn’t open the food was good and reasonably priced it took a long time for meals to come out it’s not disable friendly too many steps staff were polite some more helpful than others not sure if I would come here again

Booked at last minute for Sunday lunch. Scottish lady waitress was lovely and very efficient. Big thick slices of beef and nice veg of broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower cheese. We both had 3 courses and everything was very nice. Good value for money too.

We've never had a bad meal and been quite a few times. It's honest pub grub and not at all expensive. The portions are pretty big and we've never made it to wanting desert!

Absolutely great, food was really good and very reasonable in price staff were fantastic it was very busy but you can tell they are used to it and worth a 10 minute wait, will be back a great night

We ate here on a Wednesday evening as a table of 4. We had booked a table but unfortunately the staff were preoccupied with serving drinkers/diners sitting in the garden. The service was incredibly bad - ages to take order (20 minutes), ages for food to arrive (45 minutes), forgetting to bring steak knife for steak (despite being asked twice) no table check, no sauces (the waiter forgot) no drinks order taken after drinks finished.

Called to book a table for 4 of us which was my fathers first trip out after a hip replacement and the staff reserved a table that was near the entrance and easy to get to. The staff were very patient and helpful while we made our way to get settled. Service was great and the food ordered was also very enjoyable and my parents fully enjoyed their trip out.

I visited the Bowling Green Southam on Wednesday 24 July. I had pre booked over the phone earlier that week, specifically asking to be in a certain part of the restaurant, due to having my older grandparents dining with me and my family. The gentleman on the phone said this was no issue and it would be sorted.

Attending a wedding locally and didn't want to eat in the hotel the night before. This place was conveniently located and we booked online so no issues with being seated. Varied menu with a number of specialties, although the Rabbit & Bacon pie had sold out, shame!!! We gave starters a miss and opted for Beef Cobbler and Gammon. As I said reasonably priced, good portion sizes, chips to die for and well presented. Desserts were sampled and with a round of drinks and coffee to finish the bill came in just short of £50. We live many miles from this pub so are disappointed that we are unlikely to get the chance to visit again.

Visiting a friend in the area she had made a reservation online for a Sunday lunchtime meal. On arrival we were told that they had no record of the reservation and there must have been a glitch with the online system (later we were told that we were the third online reservation that week that had not been picked up) though the booking confirmation was on her phone. What slightly annoyed us more was being told how busy they were and perhaps we could finish by 2,30 for the next booking (it was 1.30pm) to which we replied it was not our problem. The eating area was full with tables crammed together with two very noisy tables either side of us. though it should be taken into account that it was a Sunday lunch time. Anyway enough of the negativity the food was very tasty. Ordered were three Sunday roast, all three of which were first rate. Would we eat there again yes but not at Sunday lunchtime. And no we would not book online

Went for Sunday lunch today and the food was excellent proper Sunday food beef done the way I like it roasters red hot and cauliflower cheese lovely plus other veggies the service we had was second to none and the food and plates were steaming hot very good all round will go again soon without a doubt regards Geoff Lamb

Went here with my aunt and partner and we all chose the lambs liver, bacon and onions, which came in a lovely rich gravy and with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It was freshly cooked and a good sized serving. The staff were friendly and efficient. However, I think £12.95 for liver and bacon for a pub lunch is a bit high.

We went here for a family dinner and were very impressed, the service was friendly and professional and there was the option of indoor or outdoor seating. Unfortunately it was mainly smokers outside so we opted to sit inside. The menu choice was extensive and mainly traditional pub food. I like this as so many places try to be something their not and fail miserably, the good news is that the bowling does pub food very well, enormous portions of quality food. We were all hungry so all had burgers of varying sorts, when they arrived they were gigantic with fat crunchy chips and homemade onion rings - perfect!! We all enjoyed every mouthful although no space for pudding! We will definitely visit again.

A few times a year colleagues and I dine at the restaurant at lunch times. Pressed with just an hours lunch break the staff at the bowling green allow us to pre order food and ensure it is presented in a timely manner. Staff are friendly, drink choice is varied, food menu has a good selection but not overwhelming in size and fantastic value for money. Booking recommended.

We had lunch at the Bowling Green in there lovely beer garden when the outside bar area was open and it was lovely. to sit in a nice pub garden good lagers and we had two of the best burgers that we have ever tried

Arrived here after a long ramble across the fields from Broadwell. Pleasant atmosphere and service. Deliberately chose cod, chips and peas because it would come out relatively quickly and was impressed with the superior mushy peas and home-made tartare sauce. The rhubarb cheescake, with rhubarb pieces and ice cream was also vastly superior to most pub puddings. Also, there is a separate restaurant section - so you are not eating in the general lounge or bar area. The premises are in very good condition and you can tell that the management is interested in the enterprise.

We visited The Bowling Green just before 6pm for a quick meal before playing a gig. It took a long time for the waitress to take our food order, then we had to wait an hour for it to arrive. People who'd arrived after us got served their main course before us. The food when it finally came wasn't great. I had the beef cobbler and there were more carrots inside than beef and it had a strange tang to it. My husband's curry was the mildest he'd ever eaten, he said. We won't be back.

Today myself and my family visited the bowling green for lunch. menu wasn’t exactly interesting the food that we got was fine but when it came to desserts, that was clearly new due to the lack of knowledge expressed from staff, we're very appealing the cheesecake was unset and very floppy and unattractive to the eye the weiter seemed defended when we wasn’t happy with the cheesecakes and when she had left the table was Hurd talking quite openly about what had happened this make us feel quite unwelcome so we left

Have eaten here a few times recently, both at lunchtime and in the evening. Good selection of dishes on both menus. The staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Child and baby friendly too :-) The food is always hot and tasty. Some super lunch meals for only £6.00 Altogether, good food, good value, good place to eat.

We met up with other family members who lived locally for a midweek lunchtime meal. There were 8 of us altogether. The food was excellent - well presented, plenty of it, and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the whole pub itself had a nice ambience to it. Finally, the real ale was good and all at a reasonable price.

This was a 'second choice' pub after the one we wanted to go to in Southam was closed when it was supposed to be open - and we are glad it was closed or we never would have gone here! We really enjoyed our meal and have been back since and we plan on making this a regular 'haunt'. Food is excellent, staff is friendly and attentive and prices are reasonable.

The bowling green is my regular and I've enjoyed many meals here over the years. However, they have swapped lots of the menu for cheaper alternatives which isn't reflected in the price. The meat, pasta sauce, and chips are all far lesser in quality while the price continues to rise. I doubt I'll be back in a hurry.

Booked in for Sunday lunch yesterday. The place appeared full and the few waiting staff were clearly rushed off their feet.

So after going here on Sunday for what I thought would be a lovely lunch turned out to be far from that so arriving at 1:30 with no roast was the first disappoint what place only has enough roast for over a hour of starting service. We weren’t the only ones either as I over heard on another table.It took a century for anyone to come take our order however it looked like there was only one taking orders that looked so stressed it was so uninviting uncomfortable and like we was a problem to her as she had to talk our order. Eventually it came not pipeing hot or anything to rave about like we thought we would based on reviews.

We had booked Sunday lunch some time ago for my brother’s birthday. My brother coming from Oxford, my niece from Milton Keynes & the rest of us from Coventry. We wanted 2pm, but were told they could only do 2.30, which we were happy to accept - or so we thought. Once all our party of 8 had arrived the waitress dropped the bombshell that there was no Sunday lunch left. We seriously thought she was joking but unfortunately not. Who runs out of Sunday lunch when you know you have a party of 8 at 2.30? We ended up with burgers & the such like, not offered anything off the bill or even a free drink & it was at best average. Completely ruined what was supposed to be a very special meal - still can’t believe it - absolutely shocking.

There is a range of meals at lunch time from sandwiches to cooked meals and pasta. The waitress was prompt and pleasant. It was good to see folks in the bar as well as the restaurant. It is very convenient on the main street. The interior of the restaurant is interesting with its rustic decor.

Lovely Sunday roast dinner! Attended as a family of four and with my young nephew. The waitress was very accommodating of my nephew who was hungry and having a slight tantrum. Gave him colours and paper to keep him occupied. The roast dinner was so tasty and great value! Would definitely recommend! Can’t wait to go back to try the weekday menu ☺️

Staying in Southam we decided to try this pub rather than the hotel we were staying in. What a find, could not fault it at all, attentive service from the very busy waitress and excellent quality food cooked and served to perfection. Very affordable given the area and will definitely return when we are in the area again. Would Highly recommend .

We stopped in at 8:15pm on a Monday night. Had an excellent meal friendly staff even though we were in late. I had the New York Burger and Crèam Brulè. The burger was juicy and tasty. The pudding creamy and silky. Defiantly would suggest it to anyone.

Visited on 18 August. Have been many times before, however am newly diagnosed with Coeliac Disease so eating out is often a challenge. Not at the Bowling Green- so much of the menu is GF or can be made GF. Karen and Natalie have a great knowledge of gf, cross contamination etc, and I had an excellent choice of food, all of which was cooked superbly, as always. Can’t recomm it enough-and if you are GF or have other requirements, I’m sure the team will do what they can to make your experience fantastic.

It was good the food we got was good quality and the pizza is AMAZING according to my sister who ate it in 5 seconds . I had the spaghetti carbonara.I like cheese but don't LOVE it. I wasn't very keen on it but according to my sister (who loves cheese) it was awesome!Overall great place to go for a meal or to catch up with friends!

Went for a meal with husband,daughter and 2 grandchildren. The staff were attentive and provided the children with colouring sheets to amuse them. Four year grandson thought it was great. The meals were freshly cooked and lovely. Children had ice cream cones. All desserts were delicious. I especially loved the Eton mess. Chef should be proud for such lovely meals.

We decided to go for burger night and certainly weren’t disappointed. One of the nicest home made burgers I’ve tried with a good portion of chips and salad and free desert We will be going to try the steak night very soon Excellent all around

Easy to find on the main street of Southam. Comfortable surroundings and staff were very good. Didn't have to wait long to order drinks or food. We had the lunchtime menu which was very good value for money with a decent amount of choice. Didn't have to wait long for food to arrive and it was all tasty. Will definitely return for more.

3 adults and 2 children went for an Easter Monday dinner at 6pm. Good range of food on menu from pub classics to a bit more up market. Slow cook shin of beef with mustard mash and fresh veg was gorgeous. Everyone delighted, will definitely go again.

Booked in for Sunday lunch. This is our second time for a Sunday lunch and once again the service was friendly and attentive. Roast beef was great and the pork on the previous visit was also very good. Would like to say Karen is a star and keeps everything running smoothly. Will be back again soon

We are having a new kitchen fitted so we are forced to eat out every night for a week, all together now Aaahhhh shame.

We hired the newer/separate part of the restaurant for a 60th birthday get together. Pub put on buffet style sandwiches, chips and a selection of desserts with tea and coffee and then drinks ordered at the bar. Nice area to hire for small parties. Reasonably priced and friendly atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and were very attentive even whilst also staffing a full restaurant.

For really great food, beautifully presented - and a friendly staff. New decor is a plus for new patrons. Can't go wrong here. 👍
