Awful place ! Staff when chatting esp about how they can’t be arsed.. need to remember customers can hear you !!! Tables filthy! Condiments not be cleaned in a long time. Such a shame loved coming here !!!

Food was half hot and the rest of food on plate was stone cold. The potatoes were under cooked and the bacon was extremely hard to chew. The place was filthy, don't bother, I won't be going back.

Had breakfast for 2 people. We found most of it unedible, cheap produce, over cooked, place desperately needs a refit. Sadly will not be returning!!

We visited for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Good menu choices and ample portions. Food was hot and tasty. Very friendly staff. Always enjoy our visit.

For the price I’d expect toast to come with your breakfast but you have to pay extra, the sausages also weren’t that great, but the eggs were, could do with a little update on the decor too. Don’t think I’ll go back or recommend.

Staff were friendly but the breakfast was disgusting. Sausages were 100% the worst I've ever eaten anywhere. .the eggs where good though.. No toast with the breakfast either. Hard wooden chairs and a decor from the 80'S I will definitely not go back or recommend this place.

Happily surprised with breakfast. Had 9 family together for breakfast, service was fast, efficient and staff very helpful. It's nicely tucked away and has a cafe feel to it but the food was amazing. Not greasy, just got hearty food. The menu is simple but offers enough variety for most appetites. The price is very reasonable for the quantity and quality. Highly recommended

cafe was very cold as door wedged open. food was served luke warm and with the seating area cold the food was quickly cold also l. Had to sit with coat on only 2 tables being used so not busy at all plastic knives and forks and food was put on foil trays so very greasy.

OMG. went in for lunch, plastic cutlery, plastic plates, plastic cups. Food and staff was good, but the plastic cutlery was not suitable to cut the food so I ate with my fingers, lovely!

Impressed to see the staff were conscious of Covid safety. Masks were worn, santiser readily available and plenty of ventilation. Tables were thoroughly cleaned between customers. Our food was freshly cooked so obviously there was a wait from ordering to eating but it was worth it. I take onboard the comment of one reviewer stating the food was served on cardboard plates and eaten with plastic cutlery. I agree this is damaging to the environment, however, the staff's health and safety should be paramount. We all know Covid is spread by large and small respiratory droplets which will be abundant on our plates and cutlery if we ourselves were unwittingly carrying the virus. We put our own equipment in the bin to reduce the risk to the staff and thank them for their hot, well cooked food, safe presentation and value for pensioners. Other establishments charge twice the price for food that has been kept on a hot plate for many, many minutes.

Visited at an extremely busy time, was pre warned about the wait as was everyone else yet everyone else loved to moan. It was our choice to wait and glad we did, food was lovely, in fact better than expected from a small cafe, ladies did a brilliant job and still remained polite and helpful despite many rude customers and an extremely busy hour! Were kind enough to treat our children to free ice cream, will definitely return.

Food very disappointing, beans looked like they had been in a bay Marie for ages, bacon salty and overcooked. My biggest problem was we sat in lovely surroundings with all the plants but ate of plastic plates with plastic cutlery. Not very good for the environment.

myself and my husband came in we wanted a leisurely breakfast and couple cups of coffee.We got just that eventhough they were short staffed the chef was cooking as well as taking orders out.The food was great as it always is,the service was warm and friendly.when they were clearing tables and serving you always get a smile and a welcome.When I told the chef the food was delicious as it always is his smile made my day.We just love coming in.So big well done to u all you deserve more than a gold star xx.I should have wrote this weeks ago my apologies xx

It's cheap, the ingredients, bacon, sausage etc are all budget fayre. Service is 'patchy', depends on who serves you. All a bit run down and grubby but... It's cheap and as they say.. 'It is what it is'.

Have been a few times now to have a breakfast and pleasantly surprised. Amazing prices and friendly staff! Will be trying lunchtime next! Could do with another toilet, as everyone using chaplins store and the cafe are using 1 male and 1 female toilet.

Made a visit here today as i've heard how good this place, well all i can say it lived up to it's reputation, Good home cooked food at reasonable prices. The place was clean and tidy staff were also very helpful certainly recommend a visit here.

Visited for an afternoon charity event and although it was busy the service was really good. The large latte is good value, and looking at their new menu and the value I’ll definitely be back soon. Added bonus is the outside area that’s dog friendly.

We stopped for a cuppa and ending up staying for a late breakfast. The service was slow despite the number of staff floating around and at the time of our visit you could only pay in cash which was a bit awkward. Our food was hot and plentiful when it arrived.

We came here for convenience before shopping. £15 got us 2 large cappuccinos, a fruit drink, a small breakfast, pate toast and salad and a large portion of cheesy chips. They were all tasty and came quickly enough.

Stopped for a coffee and bite to eat mid afternoon .. no hot food being served which was ok so had coffee and a piece of cake .. it took ages to get served as the staff were too busy talking amongst themselves , stood at the counter listening and waiting even though they knew we were there . Eventually got our coffee and piece of cake which also came with added extras .. a long hair ! I did get an apology and my money back but it was disgusting .. I would not recommend this cafe !

made the mistake of visiting this dive today 16/08/2017 was out with my mother and sister pop in for a sandwich and a cup of tea after waiting 20 minutes for the food to come out they only brought my mothers sandwich when no other food came after about 5 more minutes waiting my sister asked about are other food was then told they forgot to put toaster on for toasted sandwich as of mine was i got shouted at by the lady (owner) who took are order i had not ordered any food when i pointed out it was her who took are order she then said because they had stopped cooking for the day it was to late to cook sausages for me even though they had just cooked bacon for other customers sister complained and got shouted at by owner and waitress we goy up and left never to return

Based through the garden department at Chaplins. This little café serves good basic fare and all day breakfasts. Large conservatory area to eat as well as outside are.

Very small breakfast, not worth the price. Customer service not the best as most of the time i was there they were in the kitchen chatting. Wouldn't visit again could get better value for money elsewhere.

Went for a cuppa tea/coffee while shopping in near by shop,only one staff serving,slowly,with it being a food establishment some sort of hygiene would be appropriate but seen none ( no hair nets,No hygiene gloves,was given a dirty spoon to stir my tea,drinks were slopped wen passed to me no attempt to clean up or other me a cloth to do.

Have frequented this cafe over the years. Whilst it has changed hands many times, it's rarely been as poor quality as it is now. Customer service is practically non existent, despite us being regular customers we are never acknowledged. Today we went there for cheesy chips, which are delicious and cheap. Unfortunately we picked a dirty fork out of the container. When we pointed this out to a staff member she told us that they come out of the dishwasher, so she didn't know it was dirty. We challenged this by asking why she didn't know it was dirty, to which she replied 'we don't check the cutlery, if there is a problem we find out by the customers telling us' !!! Not often I'm lost for words, but this was one of those times....Whole place looks filthy and in dire need of a good scrub down. Mould or dirt stuck to window frames in conservatory area. Won't be going back!

Today was one of those days, you've lots to do but need to stop for a quick bite!!!.....We needed bits from chaplins so nipped in to the cafe not expecting too much. I had home made quiche which was delicious(impressed they had s veggie option) and the freshest salad I've eaten out! My lovely man took a punt on the fry up and wasn't disappointed at all! After once again finding myself with a spare half hour in Plympton I decided to mosey on over to the cafe i had heard about in Chaplins. If you are not familiar with the area, Chaplins is like a scruffy "pound shop", but before pound shops existed and hasn't really moved on since.To access the cafe one must enter the garden centre department and bizarrely navigate your way around and up and down the aisles of the shop before coming out the other side none the wiser. Walking past dog treats and the associated smell, doesn't really whet the appetite. This is so weird. Not in a good way though.The "cafe" is hidden in a corner of a car park or something. Please don;t think for a minute that I am describing "Plymptons best kept secret" as its not, it's more like "out of sight, out of mind."Upon finally finding it, you are greeted with a scruffy old door (which opens outwards!) and there is no indication to say it is open! But open it was so i ventured in.The smell first hits you as you walk in. It's like (If you can imagine), stale chip fat, mould, damp, and something I couldn't put my finger on, and to be honest was glad I didnt.The small premises is definitely in need of redecoration, and I am being polite here. The smattering of fellow diners seemed to be contractors on their break. The lady behind the till took a while to acknowledge me. There were 2 breakfast options and a veggie one. I took the "all day special" at 1.99. Tea was extra. The tea was served (I am not joking) in a filthy old cup with a huge chip of about 2 to 3 cm at the bottom! The table was filthy and whilst waiting for my breakfast, myself and my fellow diners were "treated" to a loud conversation between the kitchen and the counter on how stupid other staff members were, plus a bit of their private life too, all broadcasted out to the hungry diners waiting.When my "breakfast" arrived, I sat there for about a minute expecting something else to come out, like toast or even just a bit of bread, but alas no.The small plate consisted of: 1 egg, 1 small bit of fatty bacon, a tiny amount of cheap unbranded beans thickened with milk or cornflour, and a tiny sausage which could generously be described as "Tesco value" or "Asda low price". No taste whatsoever, in fact I doubt the "meat" inside was actually that.I am still pinching myself as to if this actually happened or I dreamt it. Now, I am not a fast eater, I like to enjoy my food, and I wasn't in any hurry, but I consumed this tiny offering in about 3 minutes. Maybe 7 or 8 mouthfuls and it was gone! I am still in shock as to being offered this nonsense.The whole place was like a time warp, like a bad 1970's transport cafe, but most of their clients seem to be OAP's who are probably just glad to get out of the house and don't like to complain.The whole experience was a total waste of time and I am very surprised that this cafe is still trading. Rude and indifferent staff making personal comments and shouting into the kitchen about their personal lives is not something I want to listen to. This is one secret Plympton can keep quiet about.
