This place is so so good. We stayed a couple of nights and ate in the restaurant twice. The food, service and atmosphere were all top notch. The staff are super friendly and work as a team - special mention to Katie and Holly, who were brilliant. The rooms are basic but perfectly clean, cosy and great value.

Selected as a base for an ascent of Sca Fell, The Bower House Inn offered and provided everything we could have needed. An exceptionally attentive and professional team of staff, including Katy and Holly, made our short stay very comfortable indeed. The cosy bar the perfect place to while away the evening. The food menu was incredibly diverse, all dishes hitting the spot. The Bower comes highly recommended and we shall return. But we won’t be going up that bloody hill again.

What a little gem 💎 we have just stayed 3 nights and with a big black Labrador dog. The staff in every area of the business couldn’t do enough for us or the dog. They’ve been very friendly and accommodating. The food was great 👍 and also if you let them know before 9pm the night before they will make you a packed lunch up for your day out walking. Plenty of outdoor space for your dog water bowls spread around everywhere they even have a poop bin and supply doggy bags next to that for if you’ve forgotten them while bringing your dog out from the room for their night night last ditch attempt for No1 or No2s. Well done guys 👏👏👏 we will be back when in that area again thank you for making it lovely

We visited on a mid week evening in September. The friendliness of the staff and their efficiency was excellent. They were very attentive and made us feel very welcome. The menu options were very good and prices were not expensive. The food was excellent, all 5 of us with different menu choices and we all really enjoyed our meal, all opting for desserts. We sat in the restaurant and the ambience was good but looked equally as good in the bar area too. Overall, one of the best places we have eaten in the Lake District.

Just returned after spending 3 nights at the Bower House Inn. 5 Stars all the way. It's sometimes difficult, taking your dog away on holiday, as there can be restrictions on where they can go, or you might feel a little uneasy, especially in hotels but from the off I'd say that dogs are made very welcome but, humans must be well behaved at all times. All the staff were fantastic, nothing was ever an issue. The location, for the Western Lakes, is perfect. Breakfast had a great choice of cooked items. The bar meals were really good. Large helpings, plenty of choice/variety and decent price. Rooms were clean and tidy with good on-suite facilities. Our room gad a huge bed and wardrobe storage. Outside, weather permitting, had a large car park, plenty of grassed area with access to the narrow guage railway, in walking distance (sort of). Highly recommend. We can't wait to return.

We were very impressed with this pub. I booked a meal in advance and the staff kindly seated us so we could watch the England game. The food was very tasty (I had a big serving of chicken pie)and it is an ideal place to go to if you are staying at Fisherground campsite (10 mins by car). Found this place online. However I could not book a single room for 2 nights online. I called by phone, and the problem was apparently that there was not a single available for the 2 nights. However the lady kindly rearranged the other booking, so that I could indeed book the room for 2 nights. Very helpful! Location is great. Food is also delicious, and reasonably priced. Lots of outside area to sit. No 5 stars for the room, as there was no real chair, only a stool/bench thing which was also a bit wobbly. A nice plus was the presence of a fan, for when it gets warmer (I didn't need it!).

Stayed across the road from here and so of course went to sample the Inn! Plus points- really nice interior, plenty of tables inside and out, reasonably priced beer and food which tasted great too! Sun was shining and the gardens were glorious to be out in. Smashing little play area for kids as well! Saturday we had a meal and there was a wedding on but staff were attentive and efficient with our service and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Sunday we went back for a few afternoon drinks in the glorious sunshine- unfortunately this is why I've rated 3 for service as we sat at a bench and the three tables around us had plates and glasses on them. An hour and a half later the glasses and plates were still there! So we took it upon ourselves to tidy up and took everything back inside. Not a word of thanks from the manager when we discussed how poor this was as other people had left because the tables were dirty. His response was that they were understaffed and the staff in were tired today after the wedding! Not really acceptable and such a shame as it really is a lovely place otherwise! So great generally and wanted to be able to write a nicer review, but you'll have to clear up after yourself if the staff are a bit tired...

My husband and I had Sunday lunch here a couple of weeks ago. We were seated in a room at the rear of the bar, right next to the toilet door. The table was dirty and it rocked. On investigation we discovered one of the legs was only just still attached to the table top, someone had tried unsuccessfully to tighten the joint with a beer mat. The food (main course) was ok and we intended to have dessert. But after waiting for more than 20 minutes for someone to remove our plates and take an order for dessert we decided to leave. Whilst paying at the bar we told the young lady that we were disappointed not to have had dessert, she said we could be RESEATED and have dessert. We declined, choosing to drive on to Seascale where we had delicious icecreams from Mawson's ice-cream shop. The entire experience at Bower House was very disappointing.

Stayed here over the last weekend , lovely place, staff were excellent , very friendly , nothing too much trouble. The new covid regulations are being adhered to , one way system in the bar/restaruant., name and telephone number on arrival, plenty of hand sanitiser, and the room was spotless, the touch points being cleaned on a regular basis , just to keep everyones mind at rest. The bar is lovely and cosy , plenty of local cask ales, coule of ciders, usual lagers , I had to try all the casks , for medicinal purposes.. :) and would say the Hawks head bitter or the Bower House bitter were the best.Massive beer garden with a view to die for, and you wouldn't be anywhere near anyone else on another bench for those worried about social distancing , plenty of room for kids to play too.The food was very good and hearty , we had the Steak and ale pie , and hunter chicken burger , both were very good , the chips are double fied by the look of it , which makes them very tasty.Breakfast was excellent, full english , all with local produce , jusdging by the delivery van.All in all great little place, around a half hour walk into Dalegarth station for Eskdale , plenty of walks around , and around 6 miles to Wastwater .Would highly recommend to my friends

But I was the only one paying in cash and a lady there gave me the wrong change as I paid with two £20 notes and the price was around £25. So she pulled out £15 from the till and put the £10 of the £15 that she owned me on top of the till and avoided me as I knew that change she gave me (£5) was wrong. So after confronting them about me having less change than I should have had she immediately gave it to me.Could have been a mistake but I don’t think so...

Excellent food, well priced, great staff and a beautiful location. We had Sunday lunch here on recommendation and were really pleased we did. There are great views to the rear, plenty of parking space and a small play are for the children.

On a last minute lake district trip we came in here for an evening meal. Our group of five found a table and ordered a meal each mine being Cajun salmon and sweet potato wedges.

Consistently good home cooked food here and great for the kids to run around with a football in the large garden. ( when it's not raining!) Would definitely recommend!

Lovely views, comfortable and cosy rooms with a hearty pub and will definitely be visiting again. A group of us (cycling) stayed for 1 night and some of us came later on but the kitchen were happy to sort some food for the latecomers. Welcoming staff and a lovely part of Cumbria. Would stay again.

I Run a holiday cottage close by but don’t offer food so always send my guest to the Bower House and they are never disappointed. Had a large group of family and friends so popped in yesterday and food was great always good service. Didn’t book but they always seem to find a spot

A disappointing result all round - the location is good and the grounds are fine - but - we had to return a glass of wine due to someone's lipstick adorning the glass - which was promptly rectified with a generous replacement but shouldn't have happened - the fish pie had been frozen and the sauce had subsequently separated leaving the salmon tasting like dirty, oily dishwater. A young waiter didn't know how to respond to our complaint and although we should have taken it further we paid and left.

Staying in Gosforth and had a Google for nearby places to eat. Glad this place came up. I would advise anyone to pre book. We turned up and it was very busy with reservations but the staff were friendly and accommodated us. They did advise they were out of Sunday dinners but this wasn't a problem for us as we hadn't booked and could still have anything of the normal menu. Food was delicious, i had the lamb shank and my friend had the cajun chicken. We were served in a timely manor. The bar was cosy with a lovely friendly atmosphere and if the weather was a little nicer we would have sat outside as the area looked lovely.

Saw the Bower House Inn whilst looking for somewhere to eat on my phones Google maps. Checked out the website and saw great reviews so booked a table. Only just got in, as was very busy. It was a great decision. We chose a variety of meals including Steak and Ale pie, leek and ham pie, cajun chicken, a burger, and a beef dinner. The food was absolutely beautiful, which meant empty plates all round. We only ordered a couple of desserts and these were equally delicious. The staff were extremely friendly and the pub itself was a lovely place, warm and welcoming. The beer garden was beautifully set out and would be lovely to sit out in. Unfortunately it was raining when we visited. Overall a fantastic visit, and will definately go back again!

We stayed here recently and ate every night. The food is generally very good and portions are huge. Some of the specials changed everyday. Particularly good were the butternut soup and the steak pie. The curry wasn’t quite so tasty (too much oil). The new extension was a relaxing place to sit and eat and we never felt rushed. Recommended if you are in the area.

Visited today for lunch and what can I say excellent service excellent food in a beautiful setting. The chicken hunter burger was excellent. Sat outside afterwards and had a drink and even though it was raining it was beautiful. Definitely our new favourite place.

We have always loved a rios for the last few years. Latley it's been getting worse but still okay. Just thought we would give it another go and it's the last time we will be ordering. No longer are they nice fresh made burgers. Instead they are pre-brough slimy pattys. The dirty fries are no longer the tasty side they used to be. Now they just dump loads of sauce on. Abit of cheese and about the equivalent of 1 piece of streaky bacon cut up into bits n chucked on the chips. I don't know if the old owner sold up or its under new management or theyve just lost the love they used to have for presenting a bangin burger and delicious smoky fries, but the whole rios experience is gone. It's now basically a cheap shi××y burger with some can't be arsed dirty fries. I'm not one to moan but tonight's meal was lazy and ridiculous.

Simple supper of pie & vegetables was well prepared other than lashings of beef gravy over a creamy leek & chicken pie - staff said lots of customers say the same but nothing changes! Is Chef deaf or lazy????

We enjoyed our pre-Christmas gathering over the Crown and Bear Christmas special. Lovely food and happy to provide extra gravy for the roast dinners.
