Having spent too much time (and money) in the various dismal service stations/ rest areas on the A1 we decided to head into the beautiful little Yorkshire town of Boroughbridge and see what it had to offer. Well it had Bowe & Co which is one of those cafes that you wish you had in your own town, everyone seemed to know each other, the service was genuinely friendly (and efficient), the menu was nicely varied and the food and drink was superb. My wife is a scone expert and she reckons that this was one of the best she had ever eaten.

I just dont like stopping at services and took my chances by turning off the A1 and heading to Borough bridge. What a lovely find! We had long threatened to visit Boroughbridge, purely because you see signs and you are going somewhere else. After a quiet perambulation round the centre of the town, having seen the sights, eg the Vets, and 1of the best hardware shops ever created. We decided to retire to Bowe & Co for refreshments. As we were feeling quite continental we had a capachinos each and I, feeling rebellious, had a cheese scone. The coffee was grade 1 and the scone just right, plenty of cheese with a soupçon of mustard to sharpen the taste. Very very good. Not an enormous establishment, but friendly and clean. Always a bonus. If I return to Boroughbridge I will patronise this lovely little place again.

Chose the Feta cheese & olive quiche with the full salad (it was late, we were hungry)! It was delicious and satisfying. The full salad consisted of servings of salads from the deli: quinoa with apricots, beetroot, red coleslaw; green salad & pasta salad. All of which had distinct flavours making a harmonious plateful. The cakes & pastries for afters looked gorgeous too but we were too full to partake. We'll be back. Next time the lemon and poppy seed cake is MINE!

Unfortunately this is not the first time on attending this cafe that the waiting staff have managed to ignore me.I was dining alone on this occasion and as I walked in I said good afternoon to the male member of staff who was in the deli area.I took a seat at the rear of the small dining room. There were only two other tables occupied at that time and both had been served and were sat eating. After a few minutes two cyclists entered and sat down. They were immediately served. They were followed by two more cyclists and another group of 3 who took a table. A few minutes later a member from the table of three walked up to the counter in the deli and began to place their order. No one came in to take my order so I decided to leave. As I past the deli counter intending to leave a young woman was taking the order from the representative of the table of 3. I politely spoke to a lady behind the counter and explained that I had been totally ignored and that there was no order of service paid to customers. This is not the first time I have experienced poor service here. As a result of this recent experience I will not be visiting there again.Peter Darbyshire Burton Leonard

Wanted somewhere to have a coffee and wait for my wife, staff not that welcoming. Coffee was average. This said it appeared popular with locals.

Never been disappointed by a trip to Bowe & Co. The menu is just big enough and should cater for every palate.

Stopped here as just off the A1 and much better bet than the services! Great place for a coffee and sandwich or soup of the day with crusty bread. Highly recommended.

Lovely quirky little deli/café - serving fab home made cakes, a bonus for me is tea with skimmed milk as not everyone serves this....the soup & salads are excellent & there is lovely food to take out

Stopped on our way through for a spot of lunch. Lovely little place and food to a good standard but a little pricey for what you get. The joy of captive audience and staff not overly helpful.

Good service and produce, could put on too much weight if this was near my home. Very clean, peaceful and intimate.

We have stopped here on a number of occasions for lunch and we have always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. This is an excellent Deli with a good lunchtime menu. On the last two visits we have shared a Yorkshire Platter with local produce and a good variety of salads.Well worth a visit.

I have just enjoyed a weeks cycling around the dales, a cafe stop is all part of the ride. We stopped at this cafe twice is was so good, great selection of food and Lovely coffee. Service could not have been better, made us feel welcome despite our cycling attire. Would definitely re-visit.

Stopped in on way back home, enjoyed a nice coffee. The deli counter looked good, full of homemade treats but we didn't have time to eat but will definitely try next time.

Really good deli food to takeaway, a lovely coffee shop where you can sit and enjoy all the fresh produce from the deli. Good warm atmosphere and great waitress service.

First, we called-in for a late morning snack - we had coffees and toasted teacakes, Yum.We looked around the the town - buying various things we didn't know we needed, and felt ready for a late lunch. We looked at various other establishments and thought we could not better here; so in we went for the second time. We had Soup of the Day, and Bacon & Brie Toastie which came with Tuna and salad: the bread was also delicious and it was accompanied by a portion of Piper's Anglesea sea salt crisps. Recommended.

We popped in for a quick bite to eat during a long drive down the A1. The waitress was really good helping my six-year son choose what he wanted as he couldn't make his mind up. he enjoyed his sandwich so much that he now insists that we must go back nest time we're in the area.My wife and I both had the five bean soup, which was excellent.

Visited on a sunny Saturday lunch. Food was excellent. Fresh crab soup and warm baked bread was brilliant. Fish pie superb and Baked Alaska to finish rounded it off so well. Sat in garden for coffee.
