My husband and I both had the large breakfast as a treat at the end of our holiday. I have scrambled egg and my husband had poached. Firstly, the eggs were not scrambled but were over cooked omelette that hasn't been properly mixed. My egg tasted off, having a nap after taste. When I first tried some egg I had already eaten my bacon, most of my sausages and tinned tomatoes (which were advertised as slow baked tomatoes). I asked my husband to try them and he agreed. So I tried to get the waitress, who was clearing tables, to come over, but no joy! Must add, noone came to ask if we were happy with the food either. So when my husband had finished his I went to the counter to complain. They said they would get the manger Hosé. He took 15 minutes to come. Then said that the kitchen staff had eaten off my plate and thought they were ok. I repeated that they were not and treated horrible. He again said they were just over cooked and not scrambled. He didn't have a problem with them being over cooked or even that they were not what I asked for! He refused to apologise, or acknowledge my complaint. I have never complained about food before and am disgusted by the way the manager spoke to me. I will never go back and do not advise any one rests there. On a side note my husband eggs were ok. The quality of the food was not great with tinned mushrooms and tomatoes but the sausages and bacon were good quality but badly cooked and dry as a result.

Attended on a Saturday lunch and quickly shown to a seat, no menu just some basic A4 printed dishes on a specials board. Major concern was no allergen information shown on this printouts. Ordered two Denby Chicken specials, tasty but not hot and for £11.99 the quantities of vegetables was poor. I had chips and the wife had mash, I got less chips than a child had with his chips and nugget meal. The wife's mash was small too

Poor customer service. I ordered 2 hot drinks and a mincemeat Bakewell tart. Unfortunately the tart was stale and hard, lacking any taste apart from the mincemeat. When I complained to the server, she mentioned they had sold 58 pieces of the tart that day, and no one else had complained! I suggested that others might not have bothered to voice their concerns. The server offered an alternative, which I accepted. However, the situation took an unexpected turn when she took my used plate, picked up my dirty spoon, and used it to cut a piece of the tart. She tasted it and claimed she couldn't detect any issues! According to her, the cakes are baked the day before they're sold, and the mincemeat is bought externally (explaining why it tasted nice). She concluded by asserting they don't serve stale cakes. In reality, they did, as evidenced by the tart I received. The server's rude response compelled me to share this review; otherwise, I might not have bothered.

Have to say we have been numerous times, mainly choosing to have a jacket potato …..with no complaints, but today we thought we would try the cottage pie ……..what a disappointment! A dessert spoon of meat (and that’s being generous). PLENTY of potato, carrot and sweetcorn but we had to hunt the meat content and to top it all it cost £10.95 To be honest it could have passed for a vegetarian dish!!!!

Having visited before we were looking forward to Sunday lunch, but I'm afraid to say it was very disappointing this time. Very slow service, waited quite a while to pay which meant our food wasn't very warm when we got to eat. The mash tasted like it was packet made, the veg very bland and the gravy was a strange texture, I can't quite describe it. We won't be rushing back I'm afraid to say

Our previous visit was over three years ago, pre Covid. Our very recent visit was prompted by needing some lunch plus an opportunity to visit the shops. We were surprised re how well the complex looked, the manicured landscape gardens, the relaxed car park, and the whole site bright, spotless and litter free. Bourne’s café/bistro was very familiar, i.e. little changed, which was encouraging. The second thing that struck us was that it was very full and very busy, despite the site generally seemingly not very busy (but our visit was on a Thursday and may not be typical) . We opted for Meat & Potato Pie with a selection of veg, the beef filling was excellent in quality and plentiful. For drinks we opted for Americanos with milk. All our interactions with staff were pleasant and purposeful; all the staff we saw productively engaged. The shops were also very familiar re layout and content, some till positions changed slightly and the cooking demonstration area now housing a café. The excellent meat in our lunchtime pie was apparently supplied by the onsite butchers. The Garden Centre has been extended to include an impressive Koi carp business. We enjoyed our visit, and look forward to the next visit

Main course: Roast Pork The pork was good, vegetables was all dried up, and yorkshire pudding was all dried up and tasteless. Staff member carried tray to table dumping it down, leaving large amount of my coffee on the tray. Pudding: My wife had a scone, and that was just edable, myself had a Backwell tart thar was totally tasteless so I returned it to the server who basically said "what do you want me to do about it" So requesting for a manager to eventually turned up took it away, try it and said there was nothing wrong with it. I then asked for a refund and the reply was there was noting wrong with it but I did get my £3.95 refund. Between the two of us it came to £40 + We will definitely not go there again

Went for breakfast today , joined the queue at 10 -45 and finally reached the front at 11- 10 only to be told rudely that they only served breakfast till 11am , but could have either a bacon or sausage cob instead . My husband returned to the table to ask what I wanted then had to rejoin the queue again and wait a further 10 minutes . Various people witnessed this and commented on how badly we had been treated and that the whole sett up was a total shambles . This is the second time we have had a bad experience at this restaurant , our dinner was cold the last time we went . We were second in the queue when it opened for hot food. Never known such slow service, and the way the 7 pieces of scampi were counted out was embarrassing. Took the food back to our table to find the scampi chips and peas luke warm and service had only just started! My chips served with the quiche were just horrible. Cold and obviously pre-cooked and allegedly kept warm. Needless to say we won't be returning. In these unsure economic times, this place needs to up its game or it won't have any customers.

Our first time at Bourne's and between us we had the pie and pork in mustard and cider sauce. Oh my Lord - real chips, pie crust top and bottom which melted in the mouth, tender steak in a tasty gravy, pork which was just and tender in a rich cider sauce and vegetables cooked just right. We arrived when lunch had just started so it was very busy but we'd booked a table which was reserved for us. It's obviously very popular, so booking is advisable unless you're prepared to either wait or wander around the garden centre and shop and try again later when it's less busy but the pies and quiche are freshly cooked, so might not be available at a later time. Prices were very reasonable too. Would I recommend it - most definitely 100%

Stopped off on our return journey home for a family meal whilst buying some pottery. At 12:30 was told Homity pie was not available, despite large poster advertising it as a staple dish!!. Went for meat pie as alternative which was ok but veg overcooked and lumpy potato. Daughter had Panini as her choice for our family meal of which we had to to wait for it to be cooked and collect whilst our meals were going cold! As lacking waiting staff. She started eating it and took a mouth of accompanying leaf salad only to abruptly spit it out. She said it tasted mucky and earthy even manurerly....so goodness knows what it was....hubby inspected it and it definitely was a soil or even worse Foreign object. Went to till to explsin our findings whilst daughter was in tears to then be asked to produce receipt....what an insult when it was clear we had bought it from them....Then told by staff member they would sort it and suggested to return to seatfor it so to return to our seat...15 minutes later and no attempt to resolve we had to approach them! Highly unprofessional and lack of customer care. Was given a feeble apology and told leaves are supplied before being rewashed by them...clearly an utter lie.... we were given £5 refund which was meagre for such poor quality and laxed attitude which spoilt the whole experience of all our meals..had also bought some coffee and walnut cake...dry and tasteless. So overall revolting and poor quality with unsatisfactory recognition from establishment and lack of willingness to respond to our complaint....So overall we can only suggest this is a place to avoid and WILL NOT RETURN.

Visited twice in December as we were attending events at Denby village. For the adults the actual main part is; quiche or pie are very nice but the accompaniments were very poor, stale tasting roasties, inedible parsnips, the peas we're ok. The kids meals are very expensive for what you get £5 for 3 frozen fish fingers a few chips and beans, doesn't even include a drink. One of the visits I attended on my own with my toddler, I paid and said I would seat my daughter and come back for food as I couldn't juggle both. Despite there being nobody else waiting to get food or pay, the member of staff didn't offer to help and carry the food over and instead starting chatting to another member of staff about black Friday sales, not great customer service. The coffee and cake are generally pretty good.Worth noting that there isn't s toilet inside, so be prepared to get your coat and brollies to go outside if your kid needs to go mid meal when the weathers not great. The events and shops themselves are great, restaurant could be better.

I chose to have a lunch and noticed Homity pie, which sounded lovely. The pie was unbelievably disappointing with dry large lumps of potato, thick soggy pastry and a smattering of crispy cheese on top. The taste was bland and it was overwhelmingly dry. We also had cake wich was nice but very expensive. I find the layout confusing. There are 2 pay desks one selling sandwiches, coffee and cakes and the other hot food, salad and coffee. As we as a party wanted hot and cold food we had to queue seperately. It is lovely to have a coffee shop at denby but the food is often poor and service confusing.

My wife and I visited on Boxing Day and simply wanted a coffee and a cake. Choice of cakes was good and we opted for 2 slices of different cakes and 2 Cappuccinos. The young man serving then sliced each cake and presented us with the 2 thinnest pieces of cake we had ever seen. I congratulated him on his ability to slice cake so thinly and he simply said that’s what you get! At £2.95 per slice we passed on the cake and chose a pre packaged bakewell slice and a chocolate brownie which were not bad at all but not what we actually wanted. Unfortunately our servers miserly cake slicing skills were replicated in his attempts to make coffee where I think he forgot the meaning of the word hot. Perhaps he was trying to save electricity to further maximise profits! Either way both went back and were remade by another member of staff and this time met the definition of a hot drink. Is it too much to ask that a piece of cake can be a reasonable size for just short of £3 and that a hot drink is actually served hot and not tepid? Clearly on this occasion the answer was yes so after this experience would we go back. The answer of course is no.

Asked for a jug of water, they didn't have jugs only tiny glasses. They said we could have refills but having to negotiate flights of stairs did not make this an option. A very disappointing visit.

The food is perfectly pleasant but the real bugbear is you struggle to get a seat as people are sat at tables waiting for people queuing to get food or just chatting.

My sister and I visited for a lunch date and we weren’t disappointed. I opted for a safe bet and had a jacket potato and it was oven baked and lovely. My sister chose the pie of the day (like grandma used to make), served with vegetables and mash. There was lots of specials including a chicken lasagne, homity pie, quiche, soup. All piping hot straight out of the oven and homemade. We had saved room for cake and they’re lovely, I had the Choc Brownie and it was fudgy and dense and rich and my sister had the chocolate cake which she said was rich and delish! The coffee is great too.

For a prestigious parent site at Denby Pottery, this place is a let-down. We arrived at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon - ONE baguette left - "crunchy tuna baguette" I would challenge them in a trade descriptions case. Crunchy it wasn't and the baguette was decidedly limp. £5.50!! Appalling value for money and poor quality. My partner had the ONLY remaining "black bag sandwich" - ham and apricot" it was OK but again - £4.99 ain't good for a small cafeteria - hardly a restaurant. With tea for two, the quick snack cost us £12.95 and frankly not good value.

The amazing Shirley and her team made catering for our group of 42 look easy! The food was served efficiently and without fuss. The meals were freshly prepared and even the vegetables tasted like they had just been cooked and had not sat around going mushy which is so often the case for large parties. My customers all commented on how good the food was - they were so full that they want to sleep on the way home! Thank you to all involved in making our trip a success.

Generous, hearty portions of hot dishes available, freshly made - though I feel it's best to eat early because the dishes sit on a warming tray and could loose their moisture. However the chicken and tarragon pie with fresh vegetables was well worth the visit at a very reasonable price. served in generous portions with a choice of vegetables to add at no extra cost. Plenty of hot and cold drinks available plush a mouth-watering range of cakes. Great value for money. Very good service. Can get very busy after 1 o'clock at the weekends. Worth a visit.

We were a group of 3 who all had different food and it was all terrible. Soup was so thick it left a trail from the spoon, homity pie was tasteless, roast was extremely dry. Vegetables were over cooked and can honestly say I have never had rubbery carrots before!

We visited the café on a Sunday afternoon for coffee and cake. Having visited before on a few occasions, and being quite disappointed, our expectations weren’t high but we thought we would give it another go as it’s a short ten minute drive from our house. Unfortunately we were very disappointed this time and will be in no rush to return any time in the near future. The quality of the food and drinks are very poor. The coffee tastes like the coffee you get out of a cheap vending machine and the cakes were uninspiring and very dry. For the price they change you would expect something much better. When we have eaten meals there in the past we have been similarly disappointed.

Lovely full English.. all freshly cooked. Just too much of it ha ha , couldn’t eat it all . Would definitely go back. I think they do a smaller version, which I’d probably have next time.

Called in today for a spot of lunch. But was served cups of tea in a chipped Denby tea pot !! Definitely wasn’t a New chip and I’m led to believe these chips harbour bacteria and should be disposed of in any crockery.

Went with friends for lunch. I had homity pie which was very cool even though the kitchen staff had just tested it with the thermometer The salad was nice but I had to leave most of my potato salad because the potatoes were soft and not pleasant. Coleslaw and beetroot salads were lovely. My friend had soup which was served to her but she then had to wait a while whilst they fetched her some bread because the bread basket wasn’t replenished. We then had to wait quite a while for drinks. (There wasn’t a queue)So by the time she sat down to eat the soup it was unfortunately cold. The hot chocolate drinks were lovely and piping hot I think the staff need to be more aware that while the customers are waiting with their hot food service does need to be better .

We have visited this cafe a few times mainly for drinks and cakes. Staff very pleasant. Cafe clean and comfortable. Separate toilet facilities. Lovely choice of homemade cakes. Portion sizes very generous. Reasonably priced too. However the cappuccino was tasteless. Asked for another shot of coffee but was offered a new one. This turned out to taste the same. Like drinking hot milk. Shame. Americano next time.
