Well, I was staying away from home due to work and found this Indian restaurant (I do love Curries so looked out for one). Yes, the girl taking orders (I presume the owner's daughter) was friendly and very helpful, and the service was quick, probably because there weren't many people in there, but that did surprise me because it was Saturday night. Upon arrival, I sat down and disappeared into the chair (no springs!) moved to another seat only slightly better. Had poppadoms, tasted awful but they came out after around 30 seconds so maybe they were yesterday's? Chutney, mint yogurt etc were the worst I've had, very bland, even the onion was watery and tasteless. I wondered how good the main would be. Omg, I hate to say this but it was honestly the worst curry I have ever tasted and I was very disappointed. As other reviews have said, it was dry chewy chicken chunks in a paste. I ate half of it and just wanted to get out of there in the end, got the bill then suddenly they had a power cut! Lights kept flashing on and off as the owner repeatedly kept resetting the breaker which just kept tripping out. The card reader for payment stopped working so I was stuck. After 5 mins the owner brought out candles! Somebody in the restaurant offered to help the owner, and after 20 mins got the lights on. (I hope he was rewarded with a discount but I doubt it very much!) I eventually paid but they wanted the itemised receipt they gave me after I paid, but I needed it for work, but eventually sorted it (they let me have the last cm of the receipt!). I left the run down front porch area with two doors, couldn't close the first door, it wouldn't shut. Then the owner just slammed it behind me and it shut, which I thought was a bit rude as I was still there in the porch looking at him! I went through the second door onto the street and the door handle came off in my hand along with that long rod bit as well. Then the Indian owner came running out and took it from me. I couldn't stop laughing all the way home. Will I go back? Absolutely not!

Great food as allways being veggie it is nice to have a good selection of food to choose from. I have been eating here for many years and would not go anywhere else in Bournemouth for Indian food. Great service and beautiful flavors in the food. Nothing is too much trouble for the team here. So nice to have such good service and made to feel so welcome. I will be visiting for many years to come.

I eat here often! If you like traditional Indian food, this is the place for you! The oldest Indian restaurant in Bournemouth and, in my opinion, the best for taste. Everything is cooked from scratch so can be cooked to your style and preference! This is not your typical takeaway with bright food colouring used, it's simply authentic, definitely one to try! :)

Having dined in this Restaurant on a previous visit to Bournemouth, I decided on a re-visit as I was very pleased with the service I received last time. Although it was mid evening, the Restaurant was practically empty, I was greeted by a polite young member of staff, shown to a table and drink order taken. On my previous visit, I spoke to the Chef Mr Ahmed who prepared a special dish for me. I asked if he was still the Chef, was told he was and would come out to see me. The greeting was very friendly as we renewed the acquaintance, he is a very warm and friendly character and keen to please customers. I asked if he could like before do a Naga for me as I enjoy hot curries, he apologised and said he didn't have Naga but would prepare me a very hot Vindaloo made with chillies I had on the last occasion; fish eye sometimes called Birds Eye chillies. I ordered a couple of pappadoms and received an additional complimentary one. My meal was then; curry, boiled rice and a plain Naan, the choice Mr Ahmed said was the best way to enjoy the meal as other rices have spices in which do not enhance the flavour of the sauce. As the Restaurant was quiet, although my meal took a little while, it was freshly made and absolutely spot on and thoroughly enjoyable. The total price, with drinks, was very reasonable and a complimentary cherry brandy was offered. Mr Ahmed came out from the kitchen as I was leaving and had a chat as he wanted to check that I was happy with my meal, I assured that I was , and thanked him again for the personal service. I have agreed with friends that the next time I am in Bournemouth we will go to the Bournemouth Tandoori.

We used to visit this restaurant 8 years ago. But my other half had a medical condition which stop us having too much spicy food. I went there last weekend with some friends for a birthday do and was surprised to find this restaurant still around with hardly any change to its interior or exterior. The curries and nan bread was good and they have not increased their price much so I would visit again.

Well, what can I say about The Bournemouth Tandoori: very pleasant staff; an homage to decades long past; lovely food?I'd been to this establishment previously & had been pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome. This time was no different, & if you can get past the plastic flowers ( which were a little too excessive to be kitsch) & wallpaper & furnishings, which may have seen better times, the food is worth the decor. My chicken was moist & tasty, the pilau rice plentiful & the complimentary cherry brandy at the end of the meal, was gratefully received. One minor negative comment, the burning smell (possibly from the tandoor) was far from pleasant & was very evident when one visited the downstairs toilets. That aside, it was a very fulfilling evening & is certainly worth a visit.

After walking around for ages looking for somewhere nice to eat, we were tired, hungry and desperate so despite the look of the place (which was empty peak time Saturday night), we walked in. Service was average, only 2 staff on duty (I think 1 doubled up as the chef). They gave me the wrong drink and when I returned it, the owner-waiter-cum-chef implied I was lying...anyway the starters arrived, manky side salad, limp lettuce and soft onions. Poppadoms were stale and cold - probably left over from the day before. Curry arrived but was very very oily, tasted okay but I was aware of how much grease there was!! The owner-cum-chef was very nice and chatty and gave us the complimentary sherry but again it tasted stale and yukky, but we drank it out of politeness. There was only one other couple the whole night we were there and we couldn't believe they turned away a party of 12 people!!Apart from the above, the restaurant looks like a throw-back to the 70's and badly needs total updating, revamping and more staff to align it with the stiff competition out there!! I can't understand how the place is still surviving...!

i can honestly say this is one of the worst places ive eaten in a long time .should have known better ,when i went in there was one other person eating,i ordered a pint of lager with a lemonade top , the waitress brought it , i just laughed as it had 3 slices of lemon floating on the top.i odered a starter ,king prawns in sauce on a poppadom , it was discusting ,i also ordered a tandoori mixed grill and a nan bread. the mixed grill appeared 25 minutes later ,consisting of 3 prawns 3 slices of chicken and a sausage like kebab on the plate there was no sauce for the bread to dip and the salad consisted of ,2 day old shredded lettuce ,half a sice of tomato and half a slice of cucumber,it was awful .the chef came /owner came out and i told him how awful the food was ,and his reply was ,thats how we do it here, the bill was 22 pounds , and he did give me a comp thimble full of cherry brandy, probably from the bottle he had from 1975, the waitress also gave me a comp after 8 , which was better than the meal.i also asked for a vat reciept and he told me . we are not registered for vat at the moment.this place is shocking , it should have blue and white police tape aroun it ,saying crime scene keep out....

When I walked in, the first thing I noticed was the over powering smell of the fat fryer; I suspect they haven't changed the oil in a long time. It was too late to leave, so I ordered to be polite. As I sat waiting for my food, I couldn't help noticing the faded and worn decorations, which looked like they were quite glamorous 20 years ago. When I got my food, it was very oily, and the nam looked like the kind you buy in Asda and heat up, not the authentic, hand-made type I was dreaming of. The pilar rice was also the strangest colour I have ever seen. In the end I left as much as I could, and went next door to Dominos. I think this restaurant has had its day, which is quite sad because the staff were lovely.

Beautiful food cooked to perfection. Unhurried friendly service. I took my son and father to the restaurant to celebrate my son's birthday. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted and seated by Kat. She was very kind, considerate and attentive.Ahmed the owner and chef also came over to our table to welcome us. He told us that Kat would be looking after us at the table and that he would be doing the cooking. We felt very welcome. The lamb korma was excellent. The meat was slowly cooked and was beautifully tender. Poppadoms were very large and we were advised honestly that we wouldn't need two each. We didn't! Two extra poppadoms were also provided for free. After a wonderful meal, Ahmed came out to enquire if everything was to our satisfaction. He took an interest that it was my son's birthday and brought out a birthday card and a free pint of lager for him.A fantastic evening! Highly recommended!

If you want to have a good indian meal in Bournemouth, then steer well clear of this establishment. First off the decor was shabby with some articficial flowers that looked like they came out of the ark. Also the first table that we were invited to sit at meant that our chins were nearly at table level. The service was very slow. It took half an hour to serve the first course although there were no other customers. This lack of clientale lasted the entire time we were there. My wife and I both had biryanis and were shocked to receive the watery slop that passed for the vegetable currys that come with the main dish. The chicken in my dish was ok but the lamb in the other dish was very disappointing to say the least. The one redeeming feature was the waitress, she did a fine job under poor circumstances.

Very sad, I went in between 7PM and 8PM on a Wednesday evening. Unconventionally there was just 1 waiter who was English and 1 fairly elderly chief. The killer was that i had to wait 10 to 15 minutes for my poppadoms as the machine had not been switched on (which was inexcusable) and after the wait the machine as still obviously not hot enough as the poppadom didnt taste much better than blotting paper. Rest of the food wasnt too bad except oddly the curry accompanying the byriani was just a liquid sauce with no solids. The waiter was very polite except he made 2 faux pax, no hot towel after and he gave me the bill without me asking for it and I was still halfway through my last drink. I was the only customer in the restaurant for the whole time.

I did not say any thing to my guest, for fear of spoiling the whole meal. As the meal progressed, my guest mentioned that the meal seemed very bland.the waiter was very sorry to hear we were not happy with the meal. we will not be going back to this restaurant, at £42.00 with a bottle of house wine, it was not worth more than £20.00 at most.

We visited this restaurant a couple of weeks ago on a saturday night. We had been to the cinema in the town and this was only a ten min walk away.On arriving at the restaurant I was a little worried about its somewhat tired appearence, but this was soon forgotten by the very warm welcome that we received.I ordered a prawn madras with bombay potatoes and mushroom bargee, and my wife ordered a similar chicken dish.We had the usual crisp breads with a selection of pickles. The food was fantastic, very tasty and the waiter took the time to tell us that it would take about twenty mins because the food is cooked from fresh. The portions were large and we were given cherry brandy on the house after the meal which we both thought was a very nice touch. We arrived at this restaurant at about 8.30 and left about 9.45 and the whole time was never very full, which did surprise me,as I thought it was terrific food and good value for money.Next time we visit bournemouth we will be sure to pay this restaurant another visit.

Vistited the Bournemouth Tandoori for the first time after a long day out, cold tired and starving. The cold was soon gone after a very friendly welcome from the waiter in a restaurant that was totally empty at 10pm on a Saturday night. The tiredness was aleviated by sitting down, all that was now needed was the food.We ordered a popadom each and were given 2 each at no extra charge, the accompanying pickles were OK but nothing special. My main was a garlic chicken balti and Naan which was very disappointing. The chicken in the balti was obviously the frozen type that has been injected with water to bulk it up, we bought this at home once as it's cheap, ended up giving it all to the dog as no-one liked the texture. To be served this form of "meat" in a restaurant is inexcusable. The sauce was OK but more of a spiced gravy than a real curry sauce. The naan was over-cooked and was rock hard, I've done better at home with a ready made naan and the electric toaster! My partner had tandoori chicken, the frozen chicken in sauce is bad but when all that has happened to it is a quick de-frost, spices shaken over and then grilledm, it really is foul. The accompanying salad wasn't very imaginative either. At the end we were all given a complimentary liqueur of the low alcoholic strength variety. In summary, nice service, but a "traditional" Indian restaurant serving extremely awful food. I hope the other reviewers had the lamb / prawn dishes as the chicken was terrible.

This place reminded me of a thousand others. Old fashioned decor, welcoming host (a family-run business), haphazard bar, dated trimmings. The food was unremarkable in taste and execution. No surprises, pleasant or unpleasant. The quintessential, old-fashioned Tandoori that's been there for donkey's years. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but there are better places on offer within walking distance. Value was mediocre and I bet it's packed on a weekend.

I've ordered from this place for years and always had good food! Not today though! The curry was watery and didn't taste much like a Madras! The rice was bland and the Nan bread was chewy! The Sag aloo looked like the potato had been dipped in spinach sauce or something, it was very bland and there was not much spinach compared to a normal dish, it just looked and tasted weird! Not sure if there is a new chef or change of ownership or just that they're trying to make their dishes as cheap as possible at the expense of the customer, because the price definitely hasnt gone down over the last few years but the quality has! Either way I won't be going back!
