Bourgee Lakeside in Thurrock

Upon arrival with no previous awareness from Bourgee that this was going to be CLOSED! I was shown an A4 piece of paper on the door stating it was 'closed due to maintenance'.. Thanks for the update! How can I turn up to a restaurant with no email or notification being sent and the only way i found out was not even from a worker but from an A4 sheet of paper, is just ludicrous. Not even been open long and seems to be a shambles from the get go! PANTS, WOULDN'T RECOMMEND!

When we turned up there was only one person working, shown to the table and was asked if we wanted house bread while we waited I said yes. What turned up for house bread was a toasted half of a burger bun and was going to be charged £4 for. We asked for rump steak medium and when it turned up it was well done and 2 bits of steak not one which makes me think it was shop bought a there was no flavour to it. It has really gone down hill from the first time we went. We won’t be visiting again

Booked a table for my wedding anniversary. Arrived at venue and staff didn’t even ask for my name, was taken to a table and seated by the window. After receiving our drinks, of which my husbands pint was flat, we asked if we could be moved into a both as by the window was cold. No one actually moved us, we moved ourselves. Received our starters after waiting approx half hour. We both ordered prawn and lobster bits, to receive prawns in a cheesy sauce with soggy garlic bread. Waited approx another 40 mins for our main. When it arrived the medium steak my husband ordered was medium rare. The peppercorn sauce look like it had just been heated in a microwave as there was a thick skin on the top of it. We asked for salt and pepper and got given 2 small dishes with a tea spoon. The salt was rock salt that is supposed to go into a salt grinder not be sprinkled over your dinner. We continued to try to enjoy our evening until after a couple of mouthfuls of my husbands steak he could not eat any more because it was full of gristle and tasted disgusting, the dauphinois potatoes were a mashed up potato and the garlic mushrooms were just mushrooms in butter. We called the manager over and told him to take it away and we will not be paying for the meals. We were not the only one that complained, a family on a table near us also complained about their meals and they also refused to pay.

0 Easily the worst place I’ve eaten. I can’t even begging to work out where to start. Felt terribly sorry for the waitress who, although got my order wrong 3 times, was totally out of her depth. The place is expensive for a bit of grub down the broadwalk. But plan your staff accordingly. The steak was cut in half and the plate smothered in pepper clearly been frozen hence the seasoning and cut in half to check it had thawed. Steer well clear. Big Mac meal at Maccas beats this hands down. Here’s a list of wrongs Flat Prosecco Flat beer More bacon than bacon n cheese Wrong order food Wrong order beer One main didn’t arrive Half a lb of pepper on all plates No mention of removing food from bill that didn’t arrive. This list is endless.

We visited early evening on Saturday. Service was poor, ordered bottle of wine , starters and 2 steaks. Waiting 30 mins for our starters which wasn’t too bad. After an hour and half no sign of main course. The restaurant looked disorganised, it wasn’t busy but there didn’t seem to be a flow of food from the kitchen. We asked for the bill and left without dinner.

I hate leaving bad reviews but we saved for this birthday treat for me and my family to try lobster - we had a table booked and was seating accordingly - after 25 minutes we had to ask for our drinks order to be taken . At that time of taking the drinks we also mentioned we were ready to order. As we started ordering they Informed us no lobster was available . We were so disappointed , why not tell us before seating us. I did bring this up with the staff at the time, out of ear shot Of the rest of the restaurant but the response was just it’s been a busy day. This was a birthday treat and we went home hungry and disheartened . Please take one thing from this review when you advertise 2 things ( burgers and lobster) if you run out Of one let people know before seating them And leaving them for half an hour x

I would personally say this was one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been too. Firstly, when we arrived the waiter was so incredibly rude, we had booked and they weren’t impressed. Then after 30 minutes they finally took our drink order. 15 minutes later nothing had arrived and they also hadn’t taken our order. They were also leaving food on the side for forever. Safe to say we left before our drinks had arrived…nearly a HOUR after we arrived!

Where do I start.. booked a table (don’t bother) walked in no one to greet us to take our booking, waitress/waiters walking passed us, walked up to the bar & hung around, eventually someone came to us didn’t bother asking our names & seated us. I asked for a Hendricks and lemonade, the girl who served us did not know if they did that! It was clearly on the menu. The food made up for the very bad service throughout our stay. Young waitresses looked & acted as no experience no training given. 1 waitress walked around with no enthusiasm & brought us someone else’s meal, was like a robot and obviously not happy to be there. Another waitress practically threw out meal on the table spilling chips from the bowl then telling us ooo that was hot opps sorry spilt on the table” then left. The edges of plate was covered in melted butter or oil from the food I don’t suspect the chef did not clean the plate but more like the sloppy hand waitress that served us managed to make this mess. We also witnessed a few more un happy customers with the service and spilling and dropping other customers cutlery or dishes. It was like watching a comedy sketch. This was at Thurrock lakeside. 1 waitress was also not dressed for the part but someone who would be waiting on a street corner or going to a nightclub. Another older waitress was frustrated & apologies for the incompetence of the other waitresses however I thought she could have been more professional and all waitresses should be dressed smarter even if they wore a pinny like 1 waitress had on made her look smarter and the part. All I can say is thank god the food was amazing

Visited here yesterday for lunch and was the first ones in the restaurant. Ordered My children chicken goujons and chips. The goujons were so hard and looked like the bog standard cheap ones you can get from Tesco. Me and my partner ordered steaks. I have mine medium well done but mine came cooked more than well done and was sliced which is unusual, I’m capable of cutting my own food at 30 years old. My partners fillet also had a big slice through the middle, odd! He ordered garlic mash with his that I had to send back it was like sludge! It had no texture at all more like potato soup. We didn’t hang around for dessert especially as the bill got poor food came to £100 for 2 adults and 2 children without starters or dessert. I would advise avoiding this restaurant at all costs the food is so much better elsewhere.

Just went t this restaurant today. I'd read the reviews and didn't know what to expect. I must say it exceeded my expectations. Service was prompt with our party being seated and given menus quickly. The food portions were quite small, but very tasty. The most outstanding part of the visit was the waitress service which was excellent. Our waitress, Rose, was very polite and attentive and left a very good impression. A pleasant atmosphere and a good family visit. As I say, quite small portions, I thought, but overall I would recommend.

Hi , I had dinner here with a friend. All i can say is no wonder this restaurant is empty . There is no one to greet you at the door, when they finally did sit us down they didnt give us any menus and when we did get menus it was just the food not a drinks menu, but yet was asked what drinks we wanted to order. Then when we did have the drinks menu came back for the drinks order for them to tell us they didnt have the three drinks we wanted . We ordered our food , waited an hour for the food and they forgot one of our sides so i cancelled it . We left the money on the table for the bill as we waited 15 mins after we ate , but the waitresses still hadnt been outside where we were sat, didnt come out to clear us or give us the bill . Personally i think this is appalling as i run a restaurant which seats 100 pax for the last 15 years and have never given such poor service ! I would definitely not recommend this restaurant, the staff need training .

Celebrated our first visit to Confetti & Lace as we think we found “the dress” (we think, we’ve planned another visit just to be sure!) at this lovely bar overlooking the lake. It was a really hot day but was cool and airy sitting outside. Daughter had a non-alcoholic Pornstar Martino (as she was driving) and a decidedly alcoholic rhubarb and rose petal martini (mother needed reviving)! But what made this place worthy of a 5-star review was our lovely waitress Paulina! What a dear girl she was so friendly and chatty - a real asset to Bourgee. It made our day speaking to her - fabulous drinks and superb Paulina!

So disappointed, went on NYE and thought it was really nice This time it was so different, booked a table as there was a large group even though it was midweek . Arrived to find no table ready even though it was empty , had to wait while it was sorted Service was ok , girl was new but really tried her best Food was distinctly average , managed to get one dish totally wrong , and a couple of dishes were very bland , still deserts were ok. Doubt if we will return any time soon

This was me and my partner's first time trying the food at this restaurant. Unfortunately, they didnt have simple soft drinks like pineapple or apple juice and as we dont drink alcohol, this was disappointing. We ordered starters (prawn and lobster in cheesy sauce), which wasn'tthat great. The garlic bread that came with the starter, could of been toasted as it taste as if it was just defrosted garlic bread that seem dry. We ordered steak with lobster for our mains, which was ok , but not sure it was worth paying £45 for each main. Overall, the food was average in regards in presentation, taste and freshness. The waiter Rose, was very pleasant and asked us numerous time if all was ok with our food etc. She made us feel welcome and seemed to care if we were happy with our food or not.

My partner and I decided to have dinner at the Boardwalk one Friday evening and Bourgee was the only place without a huge queue. It is a new restaurant and we thought we would give it a go. We started the evening off having a cocktail outside, they offer 2 for 1 cocktails up to 7pm and I ordered at 6:45pm but only 1 cocktail was served, I questioned this and was served another, but it seems you have to specify that you want 2? We then went inside for our dinner, we were offered a table that was uneven and kept moving, so we moved to a booth (not sure why we were not offered this in the first place as the restaurant was fairly quiet). We ordered a chicken katsu curry and a burger, the food was very good and tasty. We didn't have room for pudding. Compared to the very poor reviews I have seen, our experience was much better but the service is definitely very slow and the staff really require more training. I thought the prices were a little on the high side but they have clearly invested a lot of money in the restaurant, the interior is fab. I hope they bring the bottomless brunch option to this branch as would love to try it out.
