Boundary Pub in Bolsover

Upon my first visit I wasn't quite sure what to expect but the service overall was exemplary. The food hosting and visit overall was pleasing. Would recommend prices are fairly reasonable. We waa told we could either scan a QR code or have the waiting on staff come over to us. The waiting times between each course was quick and the food was piping hot, plus the portion sizes wasnt stingy neither.

Wonderful attentive cleaning staff in the hotel. Nice rooms. Rude useless management wont be coming back after being down spoken to like a child!!!

We recently stayed here for one night as we were heading to the East Midlands Designer Outlet village the next day and wanted to be close by. We were pleasantly surprised with this place. It is hidden away at the back of a residential estate and is in a nice and quiet location. We ate here for dinner and the cost of the food was very reasonable for all of us. The pub also runs good offers on a Friday night for drinks bundles which represents good value for money. We would visit here again and also recommend the marstons inn accommodation too.

Can't say the food was great here, food portions were very small, the peas were almost cremated. We haven't returned and won't be going back and given its got a nice play area for the children it's a shame

Friday night, and the place is full of teenagers, drinking playing pool the balls are going everywhere.No entertainment.bar staff are not happy.Not what you need for a relaxing night out after a hard week at work.Only saving grace is the halloumi pizza I shared with my partner was nice.

Wow can't believe sat in here on a Saturday night and they ring for last orders at 22.40 what a joke

First of all we came for Sunday lunch on Sunday to find that they had ran out of sunday lunches! However the lady was apologetic. We then ordered a variety of meals, one being the 'Mega fish platter' - This was diabolical - not much in the way of fish. This consisted of a small fish in batter and a plate of scampi, (which was really not very nice) Chips mushy peas and curry sauce...Curry Sauce? There was absolutely nothing mega about it!!!!. I have never seen a fish platter quite like it! Also we ordered it to come with salad, not chips and when mentioning this on its delivery, the waitress turned on her heel and walked away. I also fancied a Sunday lunch, so asked if I could devise my own, with having the steak and mash with veg instead of chips. In this respect, they were very accommodating. They agreed and when it came it had the mash with a tomato! The mash was so very dry and don't think had seen any butter or milk during the mashing process!Needless to say, we will not return. The menu was quite extensive and I am sure that the kids would enjoy a pizza, though this is not something that we relish to be honest.

Visited with my husband 11th March lunch time.New menu appears tempting.We had the Thursday 2 for £12 Steak deal the meal was well presented, tasty and good value.The service was prompt staff pleasant and helpful.The refurbishment looks good.Had not been for a while as previously not enjoyed meal or service.However as I mentioned my recent visit was excellent and I have booked a table for. 6 next time.

Popped in for a lunch on Wednesday. £5 for a curry with rice and naan bread and poppadom and mango chuckney. Very good selection of curry's although only one vegetarian options, which was a very spicy and delicious vegetable jalfrazi with potatoes and peppers and onions. Exceeding good value for money. Would have been nice to have another vegetarian option in a less spicy sauce, like a tikka massala with sweet potatoe. Service was friendly and welcoming. The kids menu was very good too and very reasonablely priced. The toilets were clean. I'd definitely recommend and hope to be revisiting again.

We went for a meeting here with colleagues. It took them over an hour to cook 5 mains and pub wasn't even busy, probably we were the only ones eating. Then they have got the order mixed up.

Stay often at this place when visiting relatives but noticed this time the place is looking tierd. Might try other places for a while.

Very dissatisfied ill never go back. Went beginning of November to pay deposit. Went in December to pay balance and sort out menu, as I'm a coeliac mine was done separately on a piece of paper and was told pigs in blankets and the stuffing was not gluten free so I'd have to bring my own... What... Other pubs have sorted food out for me especially when you pay £42 for a Xmas meal. Anyway a week before the dinner I had a phone call my menu had been lost, so in we go again to sort it. On the day its self our table was only booked for 3, but we said we had paid and booked for four.. Guess what my menu had been lost again so we had to sort it out again this time on the day.. I had the starter, no bread, well they do gluten free bread in the bar iv had it before. Main course came a pigs in blanket on my plate.. Thought they wernt gluten free, I never ate it I put mine on I brought with me.. We had a tray of a, few packet vegetables between four adults only a, few each. I had a substitute pudding as they never offered to get me a gluten free Xmas pud. Well I tried not to let the dinner spoil our day i have a meal in pubs every Christmas other pubs go out of there way to try and help me out.. Gluten free foods are widely available at a reasonable cost nowadays. I do apologise I caused you inconvenience with my illness especially losing the menu twice and causing us embarrassment by not booking me in on the day.. I will say thank you to the waitress who did her upmost to sort things out for me.. But I won't be back..

Visited on Xmas eve. The place was very busy, only a poorly decorated Christmas tree no other decorations, no atmosphere, lights on full no ambient lighting, no tv screens on and no music. However, DJ music started at 8pm when the place was plunged into darkness. The tables were filthy and sticky, full of glasses. No chairs around the tables. The toilets are disgusting. The drinks are a joke I had a G&T; served in a dirty lager glass no ice or limes. Had a glass of wine in a glass with lipstick round the rim. The manager should hang his head in shame, so should Marstons, they should have a look at Chilled pubs to see how to invest in a business. We never eat here anyway the food is inedible. Used to be a fantastic place years ago. Could be a gold mine with the right management. Avoid this place.

Where do I start.. it’s run by an idiot. Surely he cannot be the manager. It’s laughable.. I’ve visited many places.. recently I have been around Derbyshire and this has to be the worst pub place to eat. I have been all the way to Buxton and into Derby.. then to here.. it’s a comedy farce. You served our meals on dirty plates with dried up beans on, even though I didn’t have beans. The toilets smell like a fish carcass is in the cistern.

A large pub with plenty of tables inside and out. Large carpark. Friendly service with a smile. It was great to see a vegan menu. Really tasty bbq fruitjack on the meat free burger. Delicious sweet chilli coleslaw too, far nicer than your standard coleslaw. Decent portion of chips and onions rings. The only negative was the bun was quite tough. The sausage, mash and gravy was very good too.

We checked into the Bondsry Hotel. No problem.

Just returned from our Work Christmas Party. It was a great place. The atmosphere was just right. The food delicious hot well cooked and I would recommend the roast beef. It is well worth a visit

This place is good for families or couples with plenty of choices and very good value for money very quick service too !

Excellent service and food. Everything was hot and tasty especially the stuffing, as a result I was that full after I couldn't manage a pudding (which for me is a rarity ) Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Value for money 5/5 Would recommend the place.

Unfortunately I have to agree with the recent poor ratings. Visited with extended family on Sunday 31st August. Everything was overcooked, garlic mushrooms starter, scampi and the steak was nowhere near the medium I requested. I had to wait about 15 mins for my peppercorn sauce to appear after asking twice, which was then sent to someone else!! I decided not to bother with dessert! My sister in law returned her steak and ale pie as the pastry was like a brick, and decided just to wait and order dessert, as she didn't want to be eating after everyone else. Her main meal was refunded. She then waited 10 mins after everyone else's desserts had arrived, only to be told that it hadn't been ordered! Unfortunately we didn't have the itemised receipt to check. The cup a soup she had back at the campsite was better!

I do not advise anyone to visit this pub.The food is disgusting and the management staff are extremely rude!!

My local pub is the best pub. Always great entertainment on. Beer is a reasonable price. 5 minute walk from home so its perfect for me n my partner.

Sorry to say despite pre ordering for 18 people the food took 90 minutes to materialise, the majority of it was overcooked. On the bright side we got offered a free round of drinks and 20% of the bill.

We don't live far away so just on the off chance decided to eat out for evening meal. Not many people in, can see why now? Had 2 x scampi, and surf and turf. Waited 55 minutes! Not a problem as we thought everything was cooked fresh. When it came, order was wrong so had to wait another 10mins. Then my surf and turf came. 8oz steak, scampi and fish goujons. Steak cooked very well not med rare like asked for. Scampi poor quality but palatable. Fish coupons were dire and repulsive. I even thought the fish was pork crackling.! Never again.

Would just like to say a big thank you to all the staff at the boundary pub. For making our hen party such fun with fabulous food and dancing to follow. Will definitely be returning soon. JO x

Eaten here a few times now and every time We've ate here we've had a lovely meal and the service has been great. Last time I ate here there was a big group of us (16) but even so all the meals arrived at the same time without any issues and we were all able to enjoy our meal together. This night they also had a band on which was great as we were all able to enjoy the entertainment after our meal which mean't we made the night of it. Can not fault the place or the staff, Will definitely be returning again for many more meals.

Went here with a big group as part as a Hen Party. We had three courses and I can't fault a thing, every course was lovelies. Service was also second to none to ensure we had a brilliant time. Thanks very much ! :)

Large choice of food. We stayed at the hotel next door on a Thursday - Quiz night - so we joined in for fun - no pressure and we did terrible but nice that we weren't excluded by the locals. Food great for the price. Plenty of juicy chicken in the burritos. I'm never a fan of frozen chips though. Breakfast was lovely.

I don't normally go out and have a quiet drink with my colleagues but today me and my colleagues lost a colleague today and we've had a whale of a time, talking about our past, neways it's a lovely atmosphere, great offers, you can have food and there's a hotel

Great admosphere. Good menu, Great food. Close to my house. Staff are very friendly and helpful. If needed it also has accommodation in a separate building at reasonable cost.

The beer was not good [Mansfield smooth] two drinks cost £6.75 a pint and a small wine and soda, food standard pub fayre below average.We stayed on a Saturday so no special menu offers there are offers on all other days ie meal + drink.

I live local to this pub and had my wedding reception here 6 years ago. It underwent a renovation last year and has been greatly improved. Spacious inside with a good kids area but also areas away from this as well. They do a lovely carvery on a sunday and the staff are always helpful. The menu has got a lot better as well with some good offers on especially on a Friday night.

Reasonable pub grub. We had fish and chips and a steak + scampi special. Nicely cooked (esp. tender steak). Live entertainment- a swing dance band (Monday night). 20% off given for direct internet bookings for the hotel.

I visited this place around lunchtime and just after we arrived a coach full of elderly people arrived so i assume it's a weekly visit from then and most likely to have a wait for food. Generally the food was good for value, typical pub food. Would recommend for evening drinks as it's a good atmosphere.

We were staying at the hotel associated with this pub so decided to sample the fayre. It was Thursday night so Grill Night. I had the 8oz rump with chips and peas. My partner had 16 ozs rump steak ( 2 X 8oz rump steaks). The steaks were well cooked and delicious. Peas hard and frozen chps uninspiring. My speciality latte was very bitter and strong, undrinkable. Shame.

Having previously given a poor review for the quality of the food, I feel it was only fair to give a further review to say there has been a great improvement. Having heard there had been a change of management and good comments about the food we decided to give it another try. The atmosphere is as good as ever and staff helpful and friendly, and compared to our last visit the food quality, value and choice is very good, and in fact that good we have visited again.

we liked everything except the Morning coffee.the live band was called Twister' and they were very good. too noisey though for our 'legion to appreciate.

I stayed here 2 years ago and loved it - but my return visit was poor. Got room 1 which is small and showing signs of neglect. Being so close to the front door there was a lot of noise from other guests coming and going - especially late at night. Breakfast wasn't good - on Saturday a full Engish - the beans had just been put onto the plate cold and the hash browns were vile. On Sunday the member of staff on duty complained that another member of staff hadn't arrived for work - did I care that she was having to work a bit harder? No! But I did care that putting a pat of butter on empty tables was more important to her than taking our order even though we had told her we were on a very tight schedule. When the breakfast arrived it was swimming in grease - my companion even had to use a paper serviette to mop up the grease. and 1 tiny pot of tea normally meant for one given to 2 people? Really not good - no care and attention. When we came to pay the member of staff dealing with our payment, whilst nice enough, was chewing gum and didnt actually manage to ask if we had had a nice stay - I guess she was afraid of the answer. Premier Inn is better value, better breakfast and a Good Nights sleep guaranteed.

Spend best part of most weekends in the Boundary. Great for kids very family friendly. Since the management change last year the pub is getting busier and busier where there was once a handful in on Saturday lunch it is now often packed.The people that run it are trying so hard to get this pub to be the best it can be and they should be commended for that.I have knocked one mark off for a few minor things that could make the place the best pub in the area. these are1. Food hit and miss the carvery is always excellent but the main menu is sometimes awful - i guess it must be pot luck which chef is on?2. Since its got busier sometimes i feel it is understaffed there was only 1 person on the bar last Saturday at 5pm and the place was packed so it meant a long wait 3. They now have sport on the TV which is good but the 2 TV's are tiny (the old big screens went during the re-fit) if its Saturday they have to close the stage area for the entertainment as one of the TV's is on the stage it means you cant see it and have to crowd round the other TV which is only about 28 inch that said its by far my favourite pub in the area i will always go in because the staff are great , the management is great , the pub is lovely and the crowd that go in are also good people give it a try

We had lunch in here on a Sunday and went for the carvery. The restaurant was nice and busy. The carvery was really good and such good value for £6. The meat wasnt dry and nicely cooked and we had the biggest yorkshire puddings iv ever seen. Not the usual tiny ones you get in a carvery. Al the veg was niclely cooked.

The ham was absolutely delicious. The service was quick and efficient. The menu was quite typical pub food. Other family members enjoyed their food too.

Stayed overnight and the rooms are very good value very large and clean. The food was was typical chain pub food however it was good value. Would use and stay again

I recently went here for lunch with my friend and my little one. I ordered the Cajun vegetable baguette which was described as sugar snap peas, baby corn and peppers in a Cajun sauce. How dissapointed I was when this came out! Not one of the vegetables described was anywhere to be seen, it was quite clearly frozen veg that had just been mixed with Cajun seasoning and fried in the pan! The baguette was worse - I was expecting some fresh crusty bread - this had quite clearly been microwaved as it was soggy! I can only imagine why it was microwaved ! I also needed to use the change facilities for the little one however when I got there little one and changing bag in hand I found it had been locked! (I have been several times before and this was a first) I then had to wait at the bar whilst other customers were served to ask for the key which I was passed with no offer of help to unlock it - bearing in mind hands full! I struggled to unlock and lock again so on the way out I left open and informed them of this as I struggled to lock it only to be met with a strange look! Despite the fact the restaurant wasn't busy no one ever came to clear our table or ask if everything was ok with our food - I can only assume this was because they were aware of the poor state of it. I didn't eat it and didn't have the opportunity to complain! If it wasn't for having to get the little one home I'd have spoken with the manager! Won't be returning for food!

I am very surprised by some of the reviews for this pub as throughout my stay at the boundary hotel we ate at the pub twice for evening meals and three breakfasts. The food is good value and tasty and the staff are friendly and helpful. The pub has a nice atmosphere and is nicely decorated. A good idea for the children's play area and is a good family pub as well.

The drinks were good and the food surprisingly good. Breakfast was excellent, and dinners well prepared pub food.

We stayed for one night on impulse wanting to visit nearby Cromford. The staff were helpful, premises and our room were clean to a good standard. Breakfast was good, coffee needs changing! Overall a great value experience to recommend.

After a disappointing visit last summer when we experiened very poor quality food we decided to try The Boundary for a meal again, what a mistake.After our last experience we decided to play it safe and go for something that you could not really get wrong, Ham, Egg and Chips, how wrong we were. The ham was a strange colour and curled up at the edges (as if it had been left for some while under a heated lamp food warmer), and to make it worse sitting in a pool of oil, and to top it off the chips and eggs were barely warm. This is very disappointing as The Boundary is a nice pub in a good location with a good atmosphere when busy, we will visit again but only for a drink.

Deep fried, overcooked food, dry bread, microwaved frozen 'hot' desserts were still cold in the middle. Unfriendly staff. Sadly a very poor experience all round and one which I will not be repeating

It's just a boring modern barn with average service and poor-looking cheap food (Didn't try it!). It was just big and emplty!

Liked most things here,nothing we disliked.Got the train at Alfreton to Chesterfield.Will return and probably get train to Liverpool.

My Wife & I ate here on the night of our 30th Wedding Anniversary on 11th September. We were staying in the adjacent hotel, so it made for the easiest choice. Now I had read all the negative comments previously placed on here! They could not have been more wrong!!! The service by Nayomi and Carl was excellent, they really made our night feel special, thank you guys. I had Sirloin Steak and my Wife had the Venison off the specials board, everything was cooked to perfection! The chips were the best we have ever eaten in this type of establishment. The place itself is beautifully decorated too, so we will be back and thats a promise.

After eating here many times since the refurbishment , the standard is slipping to how it was before. Over cooked and dry burgers / fish , dry cobs and dry chips !! Not good value for money when it's this poor again. Some staff are terribly rude too. I can't see me returning again for a very long time

We visit this pub knowing it had been given a new look and thought we would try the food as it was very poor before. The place looks much better and seems to have some atmosphere now. The food is very poor. I had fish that was way over cooked. The veg was frozen. I will never be returning here the food is an insult.

Last night,the 15th of December i had a fab night at The Boundary,the out side was well presented lit up nice for Christmas,once entered the function room it was set out with Christmas spirit in mind,we had a party of twenty and was served in good time,my starter was prawn cocktail and had ample prawns,my main was sea bass which was very well cooked and tasty and i have eaten some of the best sea bass fresh from the sea,plenty of veg was served which was to my taste ,more was offered if needed too,when asked for other condiments ,they where served sharp by the venue manager, who also came over to check if everything was ok with our meal,also all the other staff i found pleasant and happy to help,for desert was tumble berry pie yum,the live music played all night which was of high standard music ranging from the sixties up to present day,Fantastic night would go again,and certainly recommend it.
