Food, service (especially Grace!), and atmosphere were great. Cocktails could use a little work.

Lovely little spot in Hitchin. Food was great, defo recommend a visit. Grace was attentive and looked after us.

Some great food options and traditional dishes that I have not had elsewhere. The dishes made from 500 and 600 year old ottoman recipes were delicious. Monday evening was fairly quiet but that is not surprising

Reserved table for 6pm. Came in and there was only one other table here. Took 30 minutes for our cold starters to arrive. Was told it was because an online order had come in. Would not recommend at all.

Food was good, professional and friendly staff. Grace the waitress was very helpful and gave recommendations.

To say I was embarrassed was an understatement! I recommended Borphorus to my non-local friends ahead of a concert as the best place to dine in Hitchin after going many many years…I was proven wrong and some, will never be going again!! It took them 1.5hrs to bring the food, when it arrived my friends pasta was not cooked (at all), they did not care we’d been waiting for our food, all they kept saying was it had been too busy. The meat was also fatty and the rice was clumpy, all round a disaster! it felt like it had been rushed coz our order had been forgotten! Then when I tried to express my unhappiness to the manager, he basically laughed in my face!! He was literally giggling under his breath. Told me that he could offer 10% off, just terrible. No apology, no sincerity, no attempt to try and keep a local customer happy, just terrible. After a HARD negotiation, he agreed not to charge the pasta (obviously it was inedible) and remove the drinks from the tab. We still ended up paying £50 for a meal that was 1.5hrs late and very mediocre, not to mention one member of our table didn’t have anything at all as had to rush off to the concert. I would avoid, I know things happen and running a restaurant can’t be easy but this manager did not seem to care about even attempting to make things right! Crazy!

We fancied a nice Turkish restaurant for lunch. We stumbled across this place. Must say the food was nice and service was slightly confusing as the young waiter couldn't understand me, but we did get there in the end!

I have been to this restaurant 4 times now and the staff have always been lovely and attentive. The food is always delicious and they have the best Turkish bread around. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Truly the most awful customer experience I have ever experienced - order arrived 50 minutes late, was told driver was outside but took him 15 minutes to find the house. I called 4 times to see what was going on only to be told it was minutes away. Finally arrived and order was cold as expected. Tried to microwave / airfryer food but was horrendous by then. Called for a refund only to be told I must be lying, apparently it’s impossible for the food to go cold in the containers it arrived in and I was being unfair asking for a refund. In addition, I was told the delivery guy had a crash on the way home from my delivery and apparently that was my fault too because I shouldn’t have been ordering from so far away ( the website let me do this and was within the postcode areas) I was told I had to bring my bin to the restaurant so they could check I wasn’t lying. By this point I was so horrified that I did what he asked and brought my food bin through his busy restaurant and was humiliated that he emptied it out infront of everyone only to laugh that he couldn’t see any meat amongst my rubbish so again I was lying. Now in tears from how this man was treating me, a young guy apologised for him and said he shouldn’t have treated me this way and kindly gave me my refund at last. I used to love Bosphorus but wow this was truly the most shocking customer experience I have ever experienced. He will no doubt say I’m lying again but I recorded the whole thing and will be putting it on social media

I noticed the Restaurant has alcohol on the menu but only beer, so why not have wine as well I know they sell it in-house, would have set my meal off a treat and encouraged me to use them more often.

The best food I had for years. The lamb is perfectly cooked. Salad and sauce are the best.

My son and I thoroughly enjoyed our experience, the food is amazing! The staff were so welcoming and lovely. Highly recommend Bosphorus and will certainly come back.

Small portions for the amount they charge , I haven't seen anywhere Adana kofte one skew! And they dint mention that in the menus, very deceptive . Service slow and awful. Staff need to smile a bit to make you feel welcome . Rubbish place and expensive . Never again

Awful restaurant, would not recommend. My friends and I were treated really badly by the owner/ staff. I wouldn’t waste your time and money going here. The food and staff in Mevan are much nicer.

Portions are very small for the price they charge . Not good . Service is appalling and very slow , the lady who served us could have smiled and made us welcome but she hasn't ! I noticed the waiter was chewing good while serving us , very unprofessional. Place is cold and bathroom is dirty. Would not come again . Awful place

The food here was lovely ,the waitress was very pleasant. I think it was the owner or she was in charge was very annoying. She spent over an hour .....we timed her .....Sat at the bar talking very loud on speaker phone in a language we didn't recognise. There was only one other couple in the restaurant so we were all speaking quietly to each other. I thought she was extremely rude and said so to the very pleasant waitress who shrugged her shoulders and tried to apologise. Like I say the food was lovely but the woman at the bar was not to put it politely.

Having previously had a lovely meal from here I was disappointed to receive a cold and unappetising meal. I do not like to complain and leave negative feedback but this was an expensive meal for it to turn up inedible.

Friend took me for a birthday lunch, food was fantastic! Had a 15 minute wait for main meal which was ideal after having a starter. Will be back in the near future!

Everytime we go there is never anyone else in there hence the 3☆ for atmosphere. Great food though

Visited 06/01/2024. Have been previously but did not expect such a significant improvement. Food and service was exceptional. Restaurant was bit quiet which was a shame. Could not fault the whole experience. 5 star

Dish ordered was described as gluten free but had bulgar wheat with it, which is not gluten free.

Great food and great service. As for Atmosphere, it was the middle of the week so place almost empty.

Food was delicious, we had a small for us issue as one of the dishes came with Walnuts in it, but these were not listed as an ingredient on the menu, it said almonds, could have been serious if an allergy existed. Also We had to pay a £5 per head deposit on booking, this was not automatically removed from the bill

I should have checked the reviews first. I’ve had a mixed grill from here a few years ago and it was fine t today I ordered a lamb shank, mash and cheesecake as a dessert. The meat on the lamb was hard and almost black on the outside. It looked like it was old, I don’t know. The only part of the east that was fine was the part closer to the bone on the inside. The cheesecake was then placed in the bag with hot food which means it melted and soggy by the time it got to me and for some reason it had a savoury taste like meat and then tasted you’d taste the normal flavour after. Over all it was just a weird order and really disappointing. Usually go for Mediterranean food because the quality is reliable but it was the first time I was disappointed but also the first time I ordered lamb shank instead of a mixed grill. I’ve tried to be fair in my review :/

Friendly staff, great flavours. Good value 2 course lunch. Falafel fresh and served with excellent salad. Generous portion of beautifully cooked squid Portion sizes… large! A great Saturday lunch decision.

First time coming here with my partner for my birthday meal, and we were not disappointed. Food was amazing, doesn't matter it takes a bit to bring the main, as you have their amazing bread with saucesand olives, and if you order a starter which we did you will enjoy, the quality and the fact that they take the time to cook it to perfection it matters. We have had the lamb hummus and feta and spinach rolls as starters, and as a main we went for the bosphorus hot platter which serves 2-3people.we couldn't eat everything and we had to take it at home, lucky us to have lunches for next day. Honestly the meat was tasty and tender and the spices were just perfect, kids can eat too. We will definitely come back.thank you

Food arrived 45 minutes late and completely cold, inedible, £45 wasted. I have cancer and just spent 6 weeks undergoing treatment, I'm not well enough to cook for myself and this is the first meal I ordered, and this is what I get, and no help from JustEat, no option for a refund.

Beautiful but less mash than I’ve ever had before which was a bit disappointing

I've never used this restaurant b4, but I will definitely use them again. My food, Salmon, mash and veg, in a chill sauce, was luvly. Huge piece of salmon, just right mash and veg. Came with toasted bread. Bit pricey but now I no Y....I'm a happy customer.

After departing from a chain restaurant due to lack of attention we went into Bosphorus to be warmly greeted. Lovely relaxing restaurant, amazing food so beautifully displayed and excellent service.

The food arrived just after 8. The Cacik was missing but there were 2 lots of chips. The £18.50 halloumi dish kust had plain greasy rice rather than bulgur and tomato (the only thing my daughter eats). The spinach rolls were barely cooked and soggy :( Last order was poor but we thought we would try again..... still hugely disappointed.

Got the platter for 2, ample food but ribs were so chewy we couldn't eat them and chicken wings were tiny. Asked for some chili sauce (comes in the smallest dipping bowl you can find) on side and they charged for it which just put me off. It's not the money, when you look after your customers, they come back but unfortunately we won't be.

Missing rice and bulgur. Just meat and salad. What is the point of getting it 20 mins later…?

Just returned home after another fabulous meal with friends at Bosphorus, Hitchin. The staff are super-friendly (lovely young woman whose name began with an S was very patient with us) and the food was exquisite.

Delivery was amazing, but I believe there was supposed to be rice in the salad but there was not. I might be wrong tho

I live not too far from Hitchin and this was probably my fifth time dining in Bosphorous. I took my father and his wife who were visiting me from Bradford. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough; a hidden gem in North Hertfordshire. The atmosphere is lovely; nice decor with beautiful traditional touches with the lighting, spacious, clean, relaxed, Service is really good; staff friendly and the girl who served me this time also served myself and a friend in February and did not finish her shift until we were ready to leave that time. Food is superb; huge choice, nice complimentary flat bread, dips and olives to start and Turkish Delights to finish meal. Portions are HUGE; no 'Nuveau Cuisine' HERE, more like home cooking. Really good to have the opportunity to try Turkish wine, which is VERY nice. Bosphorous needs to be more busy than it IS (Although I have mostly dined at lunch time or bank holidays, perhaps it is busier on weekend evenings).

Same as the previous reviewer, food is nice but not as good as it used to be - but don’t order a takeaway because it doesn’t all show up and the portion sizes are tiny. This is the 3rd time we have ordered a takeaway and a quarter of the food is missing so as usual, having to wait another 30 minutes on top the hour we have already waited. Last time im ordering from here now

Don’t order the ribeye. It isn’t ribeye at all and a waste of money. And they won’t refund you either

Takeaway that arrived was terrible. I ordered a hallumi salad for £9.50, it was three pieces of small cheese on top of a few wet salad leaves. The £17 chicken grill dish had two pieces of chicken. The mixed grill was ok. About 10 chips a portion. We paid £60 for this. I called to discuss and they were really really rude, would not give me a refund. I love supporting local businesses but this one is off my list!

The first time back in years due to covid, wow we had forgotten how amazing the food is, red lentil soup was fantastic, followed by Chicken Stew, and Chicken Shish, you will not be disappointed, great service too!

We visited Bosphorus February 2023 for a birthday, 6 adults. Booking before was simple. As always the food was fantastic, the bread to start is always warm and fresh. Food is so amazingly tasty - each bite was an explosion of aromas - heavanly. I got the Kapadokia.didn t order a starter but they provided pita and sauses - AMAZINGLY tasty. The staff is very prompt and friendly. Outstanding - would recomend for anyone that wants to realy enjoy tasty quisine, beatiful interior design and overal a relaxing and refreshing time.

Have ordered from here a few times before and the food has always been of the highest quality. However my most recent order of chicken shish arrived cold and the chicken was very dry. Disappointing for the price of the food.

Ordered chicken princess which had more salt than the dead sea!! Lamp shish...terrible lamb..not nearly as good as the ibos restaurant., very bland .i went to the toilet and while my wife was eating my plate was taken away!!when i asked where my plate was i was apologised to and offered some rice and salad!..not very good..had a better taste of the Mediterranean in china!!..never to return here..

Delivered very quickly and the food was lovely and hot. We love their salty, crispy, buttery flat bread and dips - delicious. The moussaka portion was small, though, or would have been a 5.
