Borstal Fish Bar in Medway

I've used this place quite a lot of times and although not brilliant, they have never made us ill. My main gripe is, twice this has happened now, if I order a Doner kebab, who in the absolute fresh hell wants a wholemeal pitta? Not joking this has happened to me twice now at the same place. It ruins a fairly decent kebab. WHOLEMEAL PITTA! GET IN THE BIN

They do fantastic fish and chips and their other menu items are good as well.

What a load of rubbish. Payed £19 for a load of rubbish. Ordered a donna kebab. Wish came with just meat and bread no salads. Chicken burger. With salad. That came with 2 slices of onion and a slice of cucumber this place is rubbish do not order anything from here you will be disappointed.

I've had really good orders from here but tonight the order was very late (I had to phone to see if there was a problem) and it was mostly luke warm with a couple of hotter chips and mouthfuls of fish. The chip box was soggy which suggested it may have been hanging around for a while. Very disappointed as we have often ordered from here.

This is the trio burger, from the grill healthy option place attached to it inside, it was nice but wasn't massively filling, I spent more time after indulging into chocolate afterwards. I paid extra for the cheesy chips and well, there was the smallest morsal of cheese I've seen in the country so far. After paying I asked for my drink because I was thirsty, got it with the meal 5 or so minutes later. The atmosphere of the place was a bit dull too, nothing special and far from poor

If you like cardboard then this is for you! Rude service and waste of time. My Nan can cook better and she’s dead.

Worst kebab ever. Dry overcooked meat, tiny salad with no lettuce and was missing the donner meat from the mixed grill. When we realised on opening at home, we called and they said they would deliver it. It never came. Never again!

Website said 30 mins delivery. Ordered at 18.13. called at 19.15. just left. Called at 19.30. it's on its way. It's 19.50 and I still have no food. Kids have had toasties instead now. Waste of money. Lied repeatedly. Avoid. No wonder the locals don't use it, wish I'd read the reviews beforehand.

Dreadful tasteless donner kebab. Was hoping it would have improved since refurb..nope tasteless .. chips OK.. the rest don't bother

Food is freshly prepared and hot. My dad has Rock or Scampi and says the batter is just lovely.

once again we have received stunning food, the chips were fresh and a bit soggy (just the way we like them) the fish was fresh and not greasy the food arrived hot and was really enjoyed

Terrible service order due 7.15pm arrived at 8.08pm completely cold took driver from 7.25 when i called to 8.08pm to drive 3.3 miles won't use again be very cautious if your not local to it i could go faster on a skateboard 48 min to drive 3.3 miles lol avoid guys chips ate Iceland frozen ones cooked in oil terrible taste.

Ordered on Saturday 21st the food arrived early as usual but found a hair in the food. Between the fish and batter. Won't be using again. Ever.

Ordered 2 x cod and chips on Sat 21st November. Found a hair between the fish and the batter, disgusting. Would not recommend, and will not be using again

Omg! I just adore this place. U cannot beat this place.

Have never ordered from Bristol Fish Bar before and will never order again. Ordered Large Rock, the fish was so greasy with oil that the oil was coming through the paper. I used 8 sheets of kitchen roll to try and mop up the grease. But it still wasn’t enough. If you love oily grease - then you will love it. The taste of grease made me heave- just couldn’t eat it. Plus had to ring them as delivery was late. Such a waste of money.

Not the best food fish can be a bit dry. All other food is good.

First time I've ordered arrived half missing.order Chips burnt and full of black bits battered sausage really was uneadable kebab got more pepper on it than a pot itself when rang was told to go through just eat.. Yes they offered to send out chicken nuggets iafterlooking at this I said no what a waste of money

Great service all around. Order food few days ago, Delivery was prompt & driver was very polite . Fish was amazingly well cooked with it being soft & tender from inside and golden crisp from outside. Chips were right on money too. Recommended to few friends and will DEFO order again . 👍👍(Pal)

We use regularly mainly very good just occasionally chips not cooked well.

I got over charged again i tried to tell them but 1 lady started 2 get really argumentive with me i had children with me so i left it when i got home they had not given me the childrens meals i asked for but gave me adults meals so they had over charged me not impressed this is not frankie its his mum

Last time I visited this place I was not at all impressed with the food being served up.they have a great menu but not always cooked properly!!! I had a doner meat and chips,it did make me puke down the toilet big time.Chips seem to be soggy and greasy,portion size overall is not so good compared to their rivals.overall a pretty vile experience here,place is seemingly run by Retards and suffers for it sadly.being next door to another take away, I have also seen vermin running around the area.

I have ordered a few times from here and not had a problem with the food, but this time there was nothing nice about it at all! My chips were warm, fish was very overcooked and hard, HOT apple pie was COLD and undercooked/soggy and my son had a bone in his chicken kebab. Not happy with this order at all and will not be ordering again!!

Great 'proper' fish and chips available here, along with everything else you'd expect from your local chippy. Prices are good, staff friendly, and delivery is available as well. Perfect for a Friday night take away.

Stopped off here on Friday, 10th August 2018, on the way back from work through Borstal Village, have eaten here before but not too recently, asked for large Cod and Chips, waited patiently for the Cod to cook fresh from the fryer, was ready for me to take with chips after 8 - 10 mins, took home and tucked into a nice Friday night Fish supper, Cod perfect, chips however were probably the last of an earlier bulk cook, not a great fan of all the bits left behind, still 5 stars as this is my local still.

This isn't the best chippy ever, but the staff are always friendly, they haven't got any of my orders wrong, the food is always edible, they cook the food fresh and is always hot.

The food is ok the service is reasonable but it shows that it sells pizzas it hasn't sold pizzas since 2008 so disappointed if you're going in there for a pizza

If I could I wouldn't even rate this one star, buy my son cheesy chips, get home and it's mouldy cheese! Absolutely disgusted with the filthy floor, even up an inch or so at the bottom of the walls and a baby unattended in a car seat on the other side of the shop. Oh and the cobwebs that look like they've been there quite a while!

Great takeaway. Whenever we have used them the food is always freshly cooked so sometimes you have to wait if the queue is long but I would rather this than have old food. Not greasy and chips are tasty

Absolutely disgusted with the food and service I received. I walked in at 9:10pm on Friday night. I asked for a shish kebab but they had already cleaned it and turned off. The only thing they were willing to cook was chicken. I waited 40 minutes for it just to get home to find it blood red inside and burned outside with no can of drink. Absolutely appalled and nearly given food poisoning 😭

Whilst some times you have wait its because they fry fresh to your order. Their home delivery service is excellant and free if order is over £10 and, piping hot when it arrives

I usual eat at this place because it is so close to where I live I now go a bit further and eat at Maidstone Road Fish Bar. I find that Borstal fish bar are just ok. I like the wide choice of food but the soggy chips lost me. My food is never ready even when I go to the effort of phoning it through first although they say sorry it has happened to often. I do eat during the quite afternoons so this may have a negative effect service and food however Maidstone Road Chips are fine in the afternoon hence I go there. I am also not keen on the Doner Meat or Chilli Source at Borstal. I will probably eat here again because of it's location but its never the treat fast food should be.
