Fantastic hotel with such a warm welcome from the owners. Rooms exceptional and the meals superb. We felt like guests in their home and will certainly return again for more than one night. Amazing to hear the deer rutting on the hills and owls hooting from our bedroom. Highly recommend this hotel to others, nice to hear about wild swimming and possible option to kayak next year. Many thanks for a wonderful stay.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Borgie Lodge as part of our NC500 trip. It really is a hidden gem, tucked away in the Scottish countryside surrounded by nature. The hotel was originally a hunting and fishing lodge and is full of character. It's a really cosy and comfortable hotel, staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Breakfasts are good and the restaurant serves very good quality evening meals. We really enjoyed our stay at Borgie Lodge.

My wife, myself and our dog Thea stayed here for 1 night when driving the NC500. The grounds, staff, food, atmosphere, rooms and conversations were all fantastic. They can't do enough for you, but be patient, they are trying to give everyone they're time. So good for knowledge, local areas to visit and information. We can't thank you enough. Really enjoyed our stay here and would recommend. Our room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated- it certainly felt like it had just been renovated. The food was excellent- you could eat in the restaurant or the bar (same menu I think), and they also had specials. Breakfast the next morning we pre ordered a hot dish from the menu the night before, and there was also a small buffet selection- we could have breakfast from 7am which is good if you want to leave early. The staff were very welcoming. We paid £180 for the night including breakfast - understanding this area is very dependent on summer tourism that felt ok for the offering.

Borgie Lodge Hotel is in a beautiful setting and offers full hotel service to its customers. The rooms are comfortable and the facilities are good - although I didn't have an en suite, I still had a private bathroom. The bar has a good stock and the restaurant is excellent. At first glance this hotel seems to be on a road to nowhere but trust me carrying on down the road off the NC500 leads you to some great beaches. Aside from that, Borgie Lodge was a great find; very welcoming, quirky room and superb food. We were also impressed that in such an out-of-the-way place they had vehicle charging points - very forward thinking - and other facilities besides. Definitely worth a stopover if you’re doing the coastal route.

On arrival I realised I had booked the wrong type of room, we were offered the bunk house which although more basic than the beautiful double room I had been shown I was very grateful and accepted. It was clean and had everything needed and I had the best nights sleep of the four hotels we have stayed in despite being in a bunk!!! By far the friendliest hotel we have stayed in, lovely people. Food is fantastic and they are so helpful, we were told where to go for a late night walk to see the deer and we came across a stag in the woods. I want to come back and do the route again next year and will definitely be trying to book this hotel again. Thank you so much for making us so welcome.

The food both at dinner and brekafast was superb and better than it ever was in the past. The service was excellent with nothing being too difficult for them. This was depaite the fact that we were all having to complay with the ridiculous lockdown rules. Drinking beer outside in a hailstaorm isn't much fun but much improved if you have a log fire to sit around. I couldn't recommend it more, a real gem where they aren't always found.

This marvellous recreation of a former Sutherland nobility hunting lodge by its owners Nigel and Adriana (Andi) is still ongoing as they add their own modernist personal touches to this fabulous property. It has a lovingly cared for walled garden and a bunkhouse which is better maintained than some hotels I’ve stayed in on my global travels. Perfect for the 5 star touch if traveling the NC500 as my wife and I were. Seeking peace and solitude or into outwards bounds activities. We simply loved our two night stay at Borgie Lodge Hotel - it really felt like a home from home. When we arrived we were warmly greeted by Andi who took some time to show us around the public spaces before taking us to our room. The room was lovely. The two chairs in the bay Dorma offered the perfect relaxing spot to unwind and take in the views of the glen. The bed was very comfy and the shower was simply amazing - very powerful and really hot!The public spaces in the hotel are a real selling feature, with wood burning stoves in each one.We ate here both nights, once in the bar and once in the lounge, while we had breakfast in the dining room both mornings. Each room was lovely and had its own particular character and charm. The quality and quantity of food at both dinner and breakfast was incredible - just what you need to set you up for a day of glorious walking in the surrounding countryside and to recharge the batteries afterwards. This was the first time we had visited the North Coast of Scotland but we loved it and will most definitely be back. Good things first: We were made feel very welcome and staff and our hosts were friendly and helpful. Dinner streaks were cooked to everyone's perfection. Room was nice and clean. Breakfast was also very tasty and very good portions. The not so good: The unfortunate thing now is this covid-19 issue which I believe should form part of a review. This is the first public place were we felt very uncomfortable. Although there was hand sanitation at the entrance, we were greeted by staff without masks. Hotel policy as per the photo is that makes are not required. Cutlery etc was handled by staff without gloves. It was a if the virus is not an issue here. Signs were just there for the sake of it. If covid-19 was not an issue then I would have rated a 4.

I took my parents here for dinner the other evening. My dad and I had langoustines to start. Perfectly cooked. Accompanied by a delicious citrus salad and lemon mayonnaise. Very tasty. Even more pleasing was the generosity of the portions. Far too often, because langoustines look a lot on the plate you receive a miserly number. I followed with a sirloin steak. Cooked rare as requested, succulent and tender, and again generously sized portion - you should have seen the bowl of chips on the side too!My dad waxed lyrical about his lamb cutlets and my mum was very impressed with the accuracy with which her hake had been cooked. All of our dishes were presented with great mastery. As appetising to look at as to eat.Dessert was taken by all of us and what we each had was met with equally effusive praise.Given the quality of the food, the relative expectations of paying for things such as langoustines and steak, the remoteness of the restaurant I was pleasantly surprised to only be asked for £91.If you find yourself in the far north of mainland Scotland you're highly unlikely to do better. Stop and give the Borgie a try.

Well that would be ok but the service was poor and when we were eventually attended to there was no soup! We left so alas we will never know if the sandwiches would have been any good.

We stopped here for a mid-morning break on our way to the Orkney ferry - in this part of the world you are not spoiled for choice. The coffee and shortbread for two were fine, but we were a bit taken aback by the cost - £9.20. £2.30 for a piece of shortbread is going it a bit - we put it down to the lack of competition locally.

Over the last few weeks we have been back on several occasions. The food is prepared using local produce and tastes great. The crafters bar is warm and friendly and you can enjoy some good banter or alternatively the dining room is lovely, both have log burners which are great and add to the atmosphere!

Had a very nice meal on my husbands birthday. The food was lovely and plenty of it, so much that I had to pass on the Orkney ice cream desert. I would say it's worth coming off the A836 for a meal you won't be disappointed.

Food was cooked superbly and all was locally sourced produce including fish and game. Good and varied wine list. Everything was fabulous, can't fault a thing!

Good, honest, hearty food with traditional atmosphere. Often comes with free local entertainment (especially on Sundays).

Enticed in by smart roadside adverts offering Lunch, two of us called in on 24 June 2013.Knowing this area's fine reputation for hospitality, generous portions and good cooking (especially of locally-caught seafood) we were undeterred when the sole staff member said she could only offer soup and sandwiches. What could possibly go wrong?Too late we found the kitchen and bar were both dark and deserted. The lady at the door left her hoovering to provide:Two modest bowls of broth - pleasant but perhaps better if served with the customary rollA tuna sandwich - that is, a small portion of tinned tuna (no mayonnaise) between two slices of dry bread,And a prawn sandwich - tasteless packet prawns between two slices of dry bread. No salad, no garnish, no tasteThe bill for this feast was £12.50We kept some of the crusts for our normally omnivorous dog; he turned up his nose. We should have done the sameEvenings at he Borgie Lodge sound to be a far cry from this dismal lunchtime experience. My advice to the management would be to invest less on tartan carpets and glossy advertising and a whole lot more on traditional Highland hospitality and quality..

This was a lovely experience, the food was not ' swimming in grease' as i saw from another review, but it was great to see that the more recent reviews have been validated. We went here for my birthday at the end of october and honestly everything was really lovely . the service was great they were so friendly from the getgo, the charcuterie board we had for starter was very filling and diverse just wish they would have told us what the cheeses were ( i think the brie was from tain though it was familair) but thats a minor niggle that we had no info. the main courses were fab the skin on chips were AMAZING , and its a dog friendly place which we loved , we dont have dogs but we did get to pet some which made our day !

We know the Tongue area very well, and like to eat locally, so it was obvious we would decide to eat at the Craggan, and i'm happy we did! The restaurant area is welcoming and clean, staff friendly, and the car park was easy even with a big van. The only problem was choosing from the menu! So many tasty things - i wish we had more time to visit again.. All three of us enjoyed our food, and we shared everything so i know it was all delicious. Thank you for making a rather wet evening so special..

Stopped for the night while doing the NC500 with my husband and 8 + 9 year old kids, one of the only places in Thurso that you can have a sit down meal! Absolutely delicious meal, got the chicken Ceylon roll as a starter and it came out piping hot and so fresh!! The flavours were absolutely amazing! My husband had the medium spice chicken Ceylon curry and said it was amazing, the flavours and spices were absolutely spot on! I had the mild beef Ceylon curry and it was equally as good! All cooked fresh to order and you can tell as it was piping hot and so fresh to taste! There is a children’s menu for the fussier eaters, my daughter had spaghetti and my son had a burger and there was no complaints from them! Our first time trying Sri Lanka food and won’t be our last thanks to this restaurant! Staff are delightful as well☺️
