We stopped in for lunch…. This place must just get by with tourists as I certainly wouldn’t be making a habit of going here as a local! On arrival there was plenty tables as it is a big space, however none of them were clean! It does seem to be self clear but no one bothers and the table we sat at had sugar crumbs all over it as well as a used tissue and an open sauce pack. Lucky I carry my handy wipes to be able to clean the table myself!! After waiting in the queue to be served which seemed like an eternity!! The couple in front were waiting on tea pots getting a run through the dishwater… this gave me time to look over the serving area… there was used jugs sat around, spilled coffee everywhere… but the food coming out did look nice. We ordered a cheese and ham toastie with fries and a baked potato with prawns and added cheese. The girl serving was in no hurry just going along at her own pace, as were the other two ladies serving. I was given a table number and went and sat down with my drink and cutlery. Sugar, salt, pepper, mustard and vinegar were available at the side with napkins, however no sauce in sight. The food arrived in reasonable time. Unfortunately the baked potato was COLD! Just what u need on a feeezing cold day. The prawns were a good amount on top of the potato and the sauce was nice. The cheese came in a cute wee flower pot and was also a good amount. Served on the side was “booths” coleslaw and a side salad consisting of lettuce and tomato… A shame the potato was so cold it was not edible but the fillings did taste lovely. The toastie on the other hand was good as were the fries! We quickly left and used the toilets on the way out which you walk through the gift shop to get to. They do have some nice gifts but I didn’t buy any. The hand drier in the bathroom is a waste of time, it comes on for 3 seconds… yes I counted… then off again and so on until you give up as the queue builds up behind you. Overall. Very commercialised, no nice service. Good ok and reasonable priced but would I go back… NO!

Attractive cafe but so untidy. Second time we have visited as the tea and snacks are good. Only disappointment is that they never seem to clear the tables - every vacant table covered in pots. Not the best welcome to the Lake District.

Watch out for car park , got fined £100 for going one minute over the 2 hours , ( was 6 by the time I actually left ) not very good instructions for the motorist especially the older generation with all this technology. Wouldn’t let me pay the £2 parking cost . Food was OK prices what you would expect to pay in a tourist area . Super market stock good food pity about the fine , put me off going there again 😂

The cafe food tastes good but what a strange complicated system when ordering, nothing is clear, the menu is not in eye line and there are no sandwiches or salads premade so everything takes ages to arrive, the soup used to be available instantly on the front counter but now needs to be brought from the kitchen with dry heavy bread and no butter provided. No clear instructions with lots of staff loitering near the till but not actually being proactive, coffees are decent but the whole queue is held up waiting for them to make a cuppa, the queue backs up incredibly fast causing frustration to customers, it's not the staff on the shop floor who are to blame but managers and owners who need to reevaluate the whole system as it is not working. We will not return until things are addressed.

Been going to booths for years and think it’s generally a very good supermarket. Cafe is nice though service is often very slow. However new parking system is a disaster. We stayed a few minutes over the hour, I was aware so went to machine to pay for the second hour. As apparently a few minutes grace are granted over the hour the machine told me no charge was due when I inputted our reg. I therefore left within a couple of minutes. I then received a £50 ticket which I challenged and was told that their machines retain no data (apparently 🤨) so they can’t check whether I am telling the truth about the message I got on the machine. I also challenged them on the basic fairness in that if the machines are programmed to allow up to 1hr 8minutes but will then issue a fine at 1hr 10 minutes, how is it fair to hand out tickets for not clearing the car park in 2 minutes, what about elderly, people parked at the other side, people with children. To claim no charge at 1hr 8 and £50 at 1hr 10 is basically robbery and booths brand will go down accordingly if they allow a third party to do this to loyal customers.

Terrible car park management system at Boothes in Keswick. I understand how the system works with the first hour being free, but a £2 charge for time over that. When I left the store I fully expected to pay as I had gone over the first hour by 11 minutes, so I entered my car details and the system showed me my car with the message No fee to pay. I thought this was odd but left as the system said No Fee. A week later their parking management company sent me a £100 fine reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days of the notice. Yes it took a week to be delivered. So my experience is that there is clearly a glitch in their system if you go over the time limit but check whether there is a fee payable. Take a photo of the screen every time. It is not to be trusted.

We are frequent visitors to Keswick and always use this branch of Booths, it’s a well run store with a good range and friendly staff. I agree the car park was a problem, the current solution which sees people fined £100 if they go over 2 hours or over an hour (by just a few minutes) and don’t pay is awful. I note negative reviews where management point out it is a third party parking company. With respect it’s your brand and your reputation. There has to be a better way.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We have just had a lovely week in Keswick for Christmas. Today we had to check out of our little cottage by 10am so decided to go to Booths for a nice breakfast before our 2 hour drive back home. Myself, husband and our 3 and 4 year old girls. I waited in a queue, fairly busy but manageable for the size of the cafe. I ordered 2x sausage on toast, an avocado and bacon on toast, a breakfast and a pot of tea with some cold drinks. Adter ahout 5 minutes the guy who took my order came to the table to say they had no avocado. No problem at all I was able to just swap for sausage and bacon on toast. So we waited....and waited... from 10:30 until 11:20. I then noticed a couple getting up to leave as theyd finished their breakfast - I commented to my husband they were behind me in the queue. We then saw a tray of food coming from the kitchen and thought that must be ours, but it went to another table of 4 who had been quite a few behind me in the queue. So I went back to the guy who took my order and said excuse me do you know when our order will be ready as we only have an hour on the car pay and display. He snottily told me there was a 20 min wait. I told him we'd waited much longer than that and people behind me in the queue had had their food and left. He went to the kitchen and said it will be 2 minutes. No apology mind! The food did come in 2 minutes; but the breakfast (advertised on the menu as having 2 bacon, 2 sausage, 2 tomato halves and other bits) had only 1 sausage. I pointed this out to the (same guy) who just said theres no sausages. I asked ok so what are you going to do? We are already late being served and now am item is missing, are you refunding money or giving another of something else? He completely ignored me and went back to serving. We then watched as other orders with sausages came out. So I went to the counter and spoke to another server who brought out an extra sausage. The point is the breakfast should be what is advertised on the menu and if it isnt there should be an explanation. I asked to make a complaint about the service we have received as we had still yet to receive any form of apology. I was told to go and find a customer feed back form. Which we couldnt find anywhere. Thanks Booths you made the end of our trip a hassle and a rush. I couldnt tell you what the food tastes like as I had to rush it down to get back to the car and my poor children had to est walking back to the car and finish off in the car.

It's very sad when a company that has a winning formula changes that formula for something that fails to live up to their success of many years! My wife and I often went to Booths in Keswick and it was always a real treat. Good grub at fair prices! Alas after the last floods that that town had to suffer they changed many things. My wife and I very much looked forward to the re-opening of that branch of Booths - sadly we were both massively disappointed. The lovely Sunday lunches that we had always really enjoyed were no more! Along with the re-opening of the store the old went crashing out and the new came limping in. What was on offer was sadly not at all in the same league as the old menu & pricing. Every time we were in Keswick on a week end we always made a bee line for Booths and a Sunday lunch - sadly not anymore and when we called in a few weeks back instead of a bustling restaurant we were "met with an almost empty area. OK it was a wet November Sunday but to say it was like a morgue was putting it mildly.Come Booths get your act together and “go back to the future”

This is a supermarket that manages to make Waitrose look cheap. It is badly managed with staff standing around, either staring into the distance or chatting to each other, while the queues at the checkouts lengthen. It is reported in the press that the company has a problem with amount of debt it is carrying. The Booth family would be doing the citizens of Keswick a favour, if they sold up and handed over to a more competent operation.

Going to Booths has now become a regular fixture of our Lakes holiday. We know it’s pricey, but for the range and quality, it’s worth paying a bit more. Staff are always really friendly. And the cafe’s nice too.

You'd expect a supermarket in a resort town to have a limited range of very expensive groceries. This supermarket is the opposite! It has a vast selection of items, and prices are comparable to those in any London supermarket. I was dazzled! This supermarket in and of itself makes it worth it to base your Lake District stay in Keswick. Besides stocking every conceivable grocery item (the only thing I wanted but could not find was Swedish flatbread), they considerately provide toilets. Employees go out of their way to be helpful and guide you to the not-run-of-the-mill item you're looking for. The place is very conveniently located. The Keswick bus station is just outside.

Booths is the first port of call when we arrive in Keswick. The triple cooked chips are excellent upstairs in the tea rooms. We usually try a different cake a day from the bakery downstairs as well. Although I'd love to live in Keswick it's a good job we don't, we'd be enormous!

...yes they have some in Yorkshire but this is a Lancashire institution and a better cut of supermarket. Regional, artisanal, locally sourced etc etc they've been doing this for years and way before it was fashionable. They are often called the Waitrose of the North but as they wittily respond "thanks, but we think we're a little bit better than that!"

The restaurant in Booths Supermarket in Keswick is very attractive and we have on several occasions enjoyed morning coffee there. On this occasion we decided to take lunch which proved to be a mistake. This is a self service restaurant so we queued up and ordered in the normal way and were told that the food would be delivered to our table. Thirty minutes later we approached a lady at the serving counter and asked what had happened to our meal. The reply "you were told it would be 20 minutes" was expressed bluntly. We responded by explaining that we had not been told it would be 20 minutes and that our time stamped receipt which we showed to the lady clearly indicated that we had been waiting 32 minutes. She said "I'll find out" and walked off. A couple of minutes later she arrived with our food which she placed in front of us and walked off without any form of comment.

I had the leek and potato broth with an egg mayonnaise sandwich. The service was a little slow given that the cafe was not too busy. Apart from that the soup was lovely and warming on a cold day and the sandwich was delicious.I would go again.

I've only used the cafe here at Booths for hot chocolate and tea [free for Booths Card holders] and eaten a snack to go with the drinks. The extremely generously fruited tea cakes which one can have toasted are definitely to die for!! I'd be addicted to them if they were available every time I used the cafe [when waiting for bus connections], but have had to settle for an fairly good, if somewhat dry scone and a delightful oaty biscuit 'sandwich'.

Its seems that Booths are unaware that half term will be busy! We went to this supermarket three times during our week long break each time we found it understocked with empty shelves in the fresh produce section and badly understaffed with only 2 tills on and in the morning no self service option at all due to lack of staff. Asked for assistance and a woman ( who was apparently a supervisor!) was so busy chatting to another member of staff she didn't notice we were waiting to speak to her Very disappointing indeed.

It's a supermarket café, albeit one that thinks of itself as more of a Waitrose than an Aldi! It's a supermarket café that does a reasonably priced breakfast served by a smiley staff member and on the table in ten minutes....no time wasted means more time on the hill....handy for grabbing a packed lunch afterwards too. Not spectacular but certainly better than decent!

This is conveniently located at the bus terminus in Keswick, so it’s a good place to call in for groceries before getting the bus back to wherever we might be staying nearby – usually either in Grasmere or Ambleside, if not in Keswick itself.

Service was extremely slow and haphazard. The coffee was good as was the Pumpkin soup, but the brown bed role was dry and unappetizing. The tables had not been cleared of previous customers. The staff when they got round to clearing the tables wiped the crumbs onto the floor but did not sweep up the mess that they made nor that was already on the floor. Such a shame as the Store has a good reputation.

As long as Waitrose refuse to go north then Booths and similar will fill the gap nicely. We bought some snacks and ready meals and it's a great place to graze if you're looking for a picnic or a hotel room supper. I was surprised when I stumbled across it but I've made a note of it now and I'll certainly be back next time I'm in Keswick.

What a lovely restaurant with fabulous food and great staff. We were staying close by and had seen great reviews about the restaurant so we had to try it….not just once but two nights in a row it was that good. On the first night my husband had lamb shoulder which was cooked to perfection and fell off the bone, I had salmon and prawns which were equally as good. The second night it was seafood platter for my husband and sweet and sour chicken for me. Both meals were very good and it was great to have so much to choose from. It was a pleasant change to be able to choose the accompaniment to the meals rather than just chips with salad or veg. The staff were very attentive and polite. All in all it was a great experience and would definitely recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant is part of Lodore Falls Hotel and Spa. The breakfast, is poor quality ingredients which are largely tasteless. The milk jug was dirty, the staff seemed miserable (expect for two chaps who were welcoming and happy). All in all, very poor and I won’t be back.
