Lovely bookshop in the heart of the Portobello market. It's quite small and can be crowded in here, especially with seated customers. Best to get here before lunchtime. There is a great selection of books covering many different topics of food. Well worth a visit.

Went to the store for a cookbook they said they carried. Was published in 1977 (a new friend wrote it and I wanted her to sign it for me). Not only did they locate the book in their warehouse, but they texted and emailed me a couple of times to let me know they would hold it for me. And it only cost $6. They went out of their way to provide good customer service and I really appreciate it.

A pretty neat cookbook shop with a working kitchen at the back presumably for events etc. There are books from around the world but quite expensive and there are severely underrepresented regions. I was surprised that the shop was not more comprehensive than it proved to be. If you’re after French, British, American or Italian food however, you will find a lot of choice. Interesting concept but could be better in my opinion.

My most favorite shop I have ever been to. This is my second visit to this delightfully unique cookbook store. I was here in 2023 and now in 2024 and the same people are working here. The owner is a wonderful chef and he has a cafe in the shop, he will pick out a cookbook and find a recipe and cook from that book and serve lunch. Last year he recommended I buy the Cookbook Malta. It is fantastic. This year the sweet girl that works their recommended The Grammar of Spice by :Caz Hildebrand and I cannot put it down. I asked Chef about The complete book of sauces by Allen Bay and he said it is the best one out… so i got it, of course. Please if you are in London do not miss this incredible experience!!!!! It’s the highlight of my stay in London.

I had seen videos of this place. The concept seemed amazing and I was excited to visit. In reality, it is quite small and very busy. You just can't go around looking at books without feeling that you are bothering sitted customers. The book selection is incredible. If you want to browse definately do it on a weekday. It is easy to find something to like if you have time, space and like cooking. Now the owner. It is a small place, you can hear conversations even if you don't want to. He kept refering to all the female customers as love in a condescending way. No, love, you can't pay by card. No, love, I prefer cash. etc. Even if the book curation is amazing at the end of the day I wouldn't want to spend money here.

Best 3 course lunch in London! The quality of the dishes is always excellent, the pricing is so low that it does reflects how generous the owner is; Eric runs his bookshop and canteen for the love of slow food, sustainable living and neighbourhood, he is French, often rude but funny. Highly recommend this store! The store owner really knows that he is handsome hahahahahaha. Well worth coming here for a delicious lunch and great value for money! We paid £9.50 in cash per person. The boss knew that we were Chinese and asked us to read a letter he received written in Chinese. The boss firmly believes that it was a beautiful woman from China who admired him and wrote to want to marry him, although I also think it should be like this hahahaha, the boss is indeed handsome! But that’s not the case🤣By the way, the content of the letter actually said nothing🤣

This book shop was heavenly. A great selection of books about food. Between all the lovely books were the owners personal collection of food shaped sugar bowls and other trinkets. At the back of the store there was a small kitchen area where cooking classes are sometimes held. This place is a gem and a must for any foodie. It was difficult to limit my self to just 3 books. I wanted to pack everything up and take it with me.

Super nice bookstore. The first time I went there a few years ago, it was freezing cold and the owner invited us to have tea and cake with the staff in the back of the shop. He also gave me a small autographed cookbook by my British namesake. This warm welcome, in the middle of a pandemic in the cold of the London winter, will always remain in my heart. I have been back several times since and the place is always warm, very inspiring for all amateur cooks. The selection of books is excellent, I have made several recipes from the books purchased.

Often overlooked or mistaken for 'the' Notting Hill Bookshop, is this local gem specialising in cookbooks or any other combination of the written word and the culinary world, with an extensive range and a warm, cosy interior that embraces you like a long-awaited airport hug. The lady seated at the counter, who I presumed worked there, was incredibly friendly and some of our group immediately fell in love with her, though they never admitted it but I saw a glisten in their eyes that usually reserves its aim for an ice cold Great Northern after mowing the lawn on a sunny Australian Saturday afternoon. Real life Hugh Grant would be more likely to visit this store, as I understand he is a wiz in the kitchen, but I can't speak for Julia Roberts as I have never met her.

Excellent little bookshop devoted to cooking. While they have an impressive range of current cookbooks, what most intrigued me was their collection of second-hand, out-of-print editions that you won't find elsewhere. As an overall book lover and a big cookbook fan I was really excited to see a bookstore that just sells cookbooks. However upon entering this bookstore I was extremely underwhelmed. The set up made it extremely hard to browse the shelves. There was also a woman, who I am assuming works there, who is the loudest British person I have ever encountered. She was next to screaming about her night out with friends and it made the cozy bookstore vibes completely go away. I then tried to take a picture of the cover of a cookbook that my dad published just to be sworn at. One of the men working there said “don’t f*ing take picture of the books without asking you can’t just f*ing do that”. Never have I ever been sworn at in a bookstore. If you’re looking to support an independent bookseller go to Hatchards or Daunt Books not here.

I went, with great eagerness, for my first post- Covid visit, with a long list of books I wanted to buy, and the anticipation of a nice meal in the cafe. I was disappointed on both counts: the shop is poorly stocked, and the one rather off-hand assistant had no knowledge of the books available, or where things might be located. The cafe was closed, although there was no mention of this on the website. Very annoyed with the whole experience.

Given the limited seating and 'no reservations' policy, we arrived one Saturday 15mins early enough to join the queue of 2 families ahead of us. When time came to seat, we were asked by the shop girls how many of us. We replied three and the arrogant "French chef'(?), walked past us saying they only seat twos, without even looking at us. He then bypassed us and selectively let everyone else behind us take seats, including a single person. We said we didn't mind being split up with one of our party sitting with the other single. It was not only chaotic and badly disorganised, you have to accept insulting behaviour on top of it. The arrogant 'chef' seated people behind us and then claimed it was full and totally bypassed and ignored us without trying to accommodate us even though we were in the queue first and had waited for this 'recommended experience'. It has left us with a bad taste in the mouth and for sure will never come back or recommend this place. On top of it, they seated a party of four who had a 'booking' even though they claim there is no booking ahead, as we heard the party saying that they had one. It made us wonder why this sort of discriminatory behaviour exists.

Be sure to arrive there before 12 to ensure you are one of the lucky ones! The food was delicious and super cheap! This is a real gem and highly recommend a visit!

My friend and I visited this shop on a Tuesday, a day for vegetarians. Not only does the shop sell all manner of cook books, but they choose a book from which to serve a 3 course meal at 12 noon. We took our places at 11.30 and gradually the tables filled up with new and old customers before we were served a delicious set menu all for £7 pp. The food was delicious! Healthy, tasty and carefully planned with an aire of sophistication. Try it! I'll be going back!

I bought a few books and wanted to know more about buns. I know there are different techniques to get a very good bun. I asked the french(from from his accent) shopowner.. and because I probably stayed to long in his shop he really wanted to get rid of me and... answerd... if you have milk and flower you don't need any books. Really rejecting attitude and probably won't come back. By the way his books are bought from ebay or amazon US and sold for a higher price. I understand his business but probably 35 years ago this guy ego was nowhere near this book shop.

The Books for Cooks store offers a very large selection of cookbooks, cooking classes and a set lunch during weekdays. The food is from the test kitchen and changes every day. The food is typically from a cookbook featured in the store. The lunch is 5£ for appetizer and main course. Desert is an additional 2£. There are only a few tables (sits maybe 12 people) and there are no reservations. Lunch time starts strictly at noon.

Alene det at en forretning alene sælger kogebøger er cool. De laver hver dag en let frokost fra en af de mange kogebøger og der er altid friskbagt kage. Frokost med vand £ 4, med et stort glas vin £ 7. Og så er de søde og venlige

This place is a wonderful find for intelligent chefs and face-stuffing picture book aficionados like me. All you have to do is show up early, pay the bargain £7 price, and be flexible.... They make one meal so you just eat whatever three course lunch they happen to be whipping up that day. This is a really special place. Enjoy.
