Bonehead in Birmingham

Had a great experience here. Staff were great and so was the food. I had the special which was a collaboration with Eat Vietnam. Picked veggies were lovely and so was the chicken and sauce, full of flavour. It was on the pricey side but it ended up being decent value as the portion was generous as well as delicious. I'll return.

Great food, arguably best fried chicken in brum. Great atmosphere and service just a little pricey but worth it once in a blue moon.

I was disappointed with bonehead, the food was all quite oily and salty (RIP my toilet). The chicken was well cooked but lacked flavour, I ordered a Buffalo burger and ‘Hothead’ tenders and neither had a single hint of spice. The garlic parm tots were pleasant enough I suppose. The service was decent to be fair but the atmosphere wasn’t for me, I can see the vision but the music was quite depressing and the references to satan were a bit much

Great service but the burgers were So oily. Not a lot of flavour either. The spicy chicken tenders were very mild. I probably wouldnt come back here again. Partner had the buffalo burger and said it didnt taste like buffalo. Basically everything lacked flavour and was overly oily and we both had dodge stomachs after.

Fancied a really nice chicken burger and it didn’t disappoint. We ordered a side of chicken with a different flavoring on it and that was lovely as well. Ordered to takeaway but next time we’ll definitely sit in as the during the time we did spend in there it seemed like a good atmosphere. One thing we did think is it was a bit small so could imagine it being cramped when busy but it was alright while we were in there. It was unassuming on the outside so might not have spotted it if we hadn’t had looked up places to eat beforehand. Looking forward to eating from there again.

Been coming back here repeatedly since 2020. Hands-down my favourite chicken/ burger place in all of Brum. Super tasty range of burgers, great sides and although they don’t take bookings I’ve never struggled to get in.

Great place in a handy location close to New Street Station. Decided to try, having walked past a number of times previously. Glad I did, we had an enjoyable experience, food was great as was service. My teenage son really enjoyed it, so it must have been good!

Great atmosphere amazing food, would recommend

Great little burger joint. Only knew it existed on the day so thought we'd try it out. Dragon burger was delicious and the cinema fries were lovely, just a little too much sauce (but that's my preference not the fault of the restaurant). It has a cool alternative vibe and the staff are super helpful and friendly. We didn't book but waited about 5 mins for a table even though it was super busy. Will definitely visit again.

Mediocre. Service was friendly but not exceptional. Food was very, very greasy. Greasy chicken tenders, greasy fried chicken burger. Have had much less greasy fried chicken elsewhere. Felt sick after.

Another little secret gem! Amazing food and portions - the chicken is virtually addictive and defo worth raving about. We ordered burgers, wings and strips of different flavours with waffle fries topped with pickles and coleslaw. It was all delicious and we took all our leftovers home to have later and it was all just as good later (I'd defo recommend getting just one or two things though because we were stuffed, and one dish very filling on its own). Expect to spend at least £15 or more depending on how much food you fancy.

Great beers, good chicken burgers. Had to wait ~25 min for table (sat night) but still food was fine same as prices. For free You can get good music :)

Came here yesterday for Valentine's day. Honestly the worst meal we've had here. Chicken and fries swimming in grease. The paper underneath the food disintegrated and we were eating that! Everything tasted like it had been sitting in brine, so salty we couldn't eat it. Chicken was undercooked and pink/jelly like in the centre. We both have bad guts today. When Bonehead opened it was lovely. Has gone steadily downhill. Came here with my son a few months back and the sauces were inedible because of the amount of salt (and we like salty food). I complained and they knocked 25% off the bill but with no apologies just a grunt from the server. It was still £29 and we only had 2 pints (the beer was nice). If I could give zero stars for the food I would. Definitely do not recommend and will Never return. Don't waste you money!

Ace little wing spot in Brum. Good music, friendly staff,and good food. They have vegan/veggie options too which is a bonus. Turn up early to ensure a table as gets busy very quickly.

Best chicken wings I’ve ever had! 100% recommend going!

Finally went today and we enjoyed our selves. The chicken was fresh, everything was hot, everything was cooked perfectly. The portions were plenty and the staff were lovely. Forget Pope eyes, KFC just come here .

Amazing place - and I’m saying this as a vegetarian! Special mention for the craft beer selection: 8 well chosen taps and a fridge full of top tier bottles and cans. Someone here really knows their oats. Also a lovely atmosphere. If I were a local I could definitely see myself hanging out at the bar

I've been coming to Bonehead for years. BUT, I always had the same thing. One day I was working outside and asked the stage to pick me their favourite burger because I was in a rush. Say hello to the Hothead burger x Deadhead extra spicy. This is a party in your mouth. Do not be scared of the spicy side. (I like hot) this is more sweet and hot. Then I had the Nashville-loaded fries and gravy. All their food outstanding. Fantastic selection drinks too.

Deze kip is onbeschrijfelijk lekker. Mals, niet droog en genoeg gepaneerd. Echt een aanrader. Service is ook goed en persoonlijk. Groot assortiment kwa drinken en maaltijden voor zoals Lunch als Diner.

My go to when in the city centre. Buffalo wings with blue cheese is to die for along with the grapefruit radler. Killer combo. Also love the lemon wings with the lemon aioli on the side for that tangy kick.

Bonehead serves the best chicken! The staff are amazingly friendly and are so welcoming. The strips are superb- big portions of non-greasy chicken. The Nashville waffles fries were also incredible! The lovely waitress even treated us to a few sambuca! Great selection of beers too. Highly recommended x

En octubre de 2024 viajamos de Staffs a Birmingham para poder visitar algunos de los lugares antes de reservar plazas para nuestras próximas obras Christmas Doo. Parte de esa visita fue a Bonehead, ya que había estado mirando el lugar durante meses de antemano y había estado compartiendo imágenes de comida con todo el equipo cada vez que se lanzaban nuevas hamburguesas o se mostraban. Para cuando llegó octubre, otros dos querían venir conmigo no solo para reconocer los lugares, sino para comer algo en Bonehead como parte del viaje. Esperamos pacientemente a que se abrieran y cuando entramos hablamos con un miembro del personal, así como con el Subgerente. Las dos chicas encantadoras para hablar y pensé que la vibra dentro será genial para el resto del equipo. Luego expliqué hasta dónde llegábamos todos y si podíamos reservar una mesa para los 8-10 de nosotros. ¡Me dijeron entonces que Bonehead no acepta reservas ni reservas! Sin saber la mejor manera de resolver esto, el Subgerente aconsejó que como nuestra fecha de Christmas Doo era un lunes y no la semana antes de Navidad, que no deberían estar demasiado ocupados (ese día siendo un sábado podíamos ver el lugar llenándose mientras estábamos allí) y podrían encontrarnos 2 mesas arriba para que estuviéramos absolutamente bien. Tenga en cuenta que teníamos otros 3 lugares que habíamos subido ese día para reservar franjas horarias para actividades, así que las franjas horarias eran absolutamente primordiales. Ellos entendieron nuestra situación y al final el Subgerente incluso me sugirió que enviara un correo electrónico al equipo de gestión (no estoy seguro de por qué tenía que hacer el trabajo y ella no pudo) para explicar lo que estaba sucediendo en el día para que todos estuvieran al tanto. Estuve de acuerdo, tomé la dirección de correo electrónico y luego pregunté si podíamos comer allí, pero ella dijo que estaban llenos y tal vez podríamos volver en un par de horas, así que fuimos el resto del día. Intentamos volver para 1415 ish, pero todavía estaba lleno, así que comimos en otro lugar y dijimos que valdría la pena la espera. Todavía preocupado por conseguir una mesa en el día (lunes 16 de diciembre) envié un correo electrónico al equipo de gestión y le expliqué completamente lo que estábamos buscando. No supe nada de este correo electrónico, así que comprobé la dirección de correo electrónico a lo que se había escrito y lo envió de nuevo. Una semana más tarde si no se escucha nada de nuevo, así que simplemente asumí que volverían en algún momento y deben estar ocupados. Cada semana enviaba nuevas imágenes de hamburguesas al grupo para abrir el apetito y casi todos en este momento sabían qué hamburguesa exacta iban a por y la charla era entusiasta por decir lo menos. Llega el lunes 16 y nos dirigimos a Birmingham para nuestro primer evento. Una vez que terminamos todo el mundo estaba hambriento ya que no habíamos desayunado sabiendo el tamaño de las porciones en Bonehead. Caminando por la ciudad todos charlamos sobre si obtendríamos papas fritas adicionales o compartiríamos otro plato de pollo teniendo hambre y a la vuelta de la esquina los ánimos estaban altos. Hasta el punto en que vimos ‘CERRADO’ en la puerta principal. Aceptándolo, recién estábamos apareciendo a las 1200, les aseguré que abrirían en breve como lo hicieron cuando visitamos antes. En este punto vi un pedazo de papel pegado a la puerta debajo del letrero que decía que estaban cerrados todo el día debido a una “reserva de fiesta privada”. No podía creerlo después de todo lo que nos habían dicho y luego incluso había respaldado todo con correos electrónicos, así que uno de nosotros llamó a la puerta dos veces, pero nadie salió de atrás. Esperamos, pero nada más y así que nos fuimos con extrema decepción y sin ningún otro lugar reservado sin rumbo entró en Grand Central y tomó la comida de un puesto. Hubo una calma definitiva en el día a partir de entonces con varios de nosotros preocupados de que los otros lugares no cumplirían con su palabra con respecto a nuestras reservas, sin embargo, afortunadamente todos lo hicieron. Lo dejé para el otro día y después de deliberar contactando con ellos o no (tened en cuenta que tenían mis datos de contacto así que tal vez pudieron haberse puesto en contacto para disculparse de antemano) les envié de nuevo un email. No supe nada y hasta envié un mensaje en su página de Facebook Messenger al que todavía no he tenido respuesta y ya han pasado días (además de que han puesto actualizaciones en su página para que no hubieran visto el mensaje y podido responder) así que asumo que o no pueden ser molestados, no quieren enfrentarse a ser dueños de lo pobre que ha sido su servicio o simplemente piensan que si me ignoran poniéndose en contacto con ellos me iré. Bastante bien si es la última así que dejaré esta reseña ya que no hay nada más que pueda hacer (o debería tener que probar diferentes formas de ponerme en contacto) así que tened esto en cuenta si alguna vez queréis comer aquí. No esperes que tomen reservas (a menos que seas de un grupo mayor de 8 a 10 porque entonces tu dinero ES suficiente para ellos) y no esperes respuestas a las comunicaciones porque a pesar de ser capaces de hacer pollo de aspecto decente, parecen no tener ningún concepto de cuidar de los clientes. Verdadera vergüenza Cabeza de Hueso, tal vez el nombre te sienta mejor de lo que crees si así es como diriges tu negocio.

Best best best chicken burger I ever had.

The Bonehead and Buffalo burger were delicious. The place is very nice with a metal theme. Good place if you want to eat a good burger. The waffle fries are to die for.

Bonehead in Birmingham is a bit of a hidden gem—literally. Its understated exterior makes it easy to miss, and even when you find it, you’re left wondering if it’s open until you actually try the door. Once inside, the candlelit tables create a cozy atmosphere, though the small tables can make the space feel a bit cramped. The staff are friendly, but during our visit, after placing our order, we waited about 10 minutes without receiving our drinks. I had to follow up with the waiter, and even then, other patrons who ordered after us received their drinks first. These delays were a bit frustrating. The food presentation is appealing, but for the price, I expected more. The burgers were decent, but the tater tots were disappointing—I wouldn’t recommend them. In summary, while Bonehead has a charming ambiance and pleasant staff, the service delays and food quality didn’t quite meet expectations, especially considering the prices.

The packing is nice. But the fried chicken is too salty, especially the dragon fried chicken. I can handle salty taste, but I can't eat this.

Had the best burger! There was a wait on tables so I got a drink and ended up being seated about 5 mins later. I had the lizard burger and garlic and Parmesan tots. Both were incredible! Delicious and great portion size. Will be back for sure!

Great little spot - with an upstairs tucked away for extra seating. The staff were awesome; I knocked over my drink and they instantly and graciously offered a replacement. The waitress went above and beyond as well - letting me create a sampler of three types of wings so I could try things out. Wings were delicious- and I loved the waffle fries!

It's the best chicken I have tried hands down not just in Birmingham, its definitely unique flavour- i have order a burger and chips. The chips is extremely disappointing not in flavour but in portions it's really not worth ordering at all. You can't serve burger and chips and be so unaware of how silly it looks. The place is dark in terms of lighting, as you are not supposed to see the chicken you are eating. I get the atmosphere thing but the stairs need to lit properly, too dark. Table weren't clean, there was mark of fingers from previous customers, one toilet downstairs etc. However let's say it again it definitely hands down best chicken flavour, must try just skip the chips if the portions matters.

Unfortunately gone downhill :( Me and my Partner have been to bonehead many times and we were OBSESSED, we always look forward to coming when we’re in birmingham. We’ve ranted and raved to all our friends & family about the best chicken burger you’ll ever have and how we don’t eat chicken burgers anywhere else anymore cause they don’t top bonehead but that wasn’t the case this time. Blue cheese, where? just tasted like yoghurt and nowhere near as good or punchy and that REALLY was what made the buffalo burger perfect. Chicken was slimy and stringy which put me off tbh and the batter has 100% changed as there was no crisp and just slipped off the chicken. Tator tots and waffle fries were still good and acc were the star of the show this time which shows how disappointing the burgers were. If you’ve never been before then sure it’s a good burger but if you have tasted them before (some quality cuts possibly) then you would understand the heartache lol. My partner is a chef and could see it was changes in ingredient quality and less love for the food being put out or could have genuinely just been a bad day in the kitchen (which i’m hoping is the case). Service has also changed, we felt a bit rushed as we got asked 3 times in about 15 mins if we were ready to order when we said we weren’t so felt a little on edge. i’m an alt girlie so normally bonehead is a safe space for me but didn’t get that comfy vibe this time as idk it just didn’t seem as friendly? when i did complain about my food the server kept on asking me if i wanted to make it a complaint and idk it made me feel guilty about it ahaha which i’m sure wasn’t their intention but from a former server you don’t ask someone if they want to make it a complaint whilst they’re complaining but once again everyone has their own things going on so could of just been a bad day :/ Me and my partner don’t have lots of disposable money or time so was a treat for us and it just didn’t go the way we expected, felt like a waste of our money as we still paid for everything but hey ho. We’ll be back in Brum in a couple months so will give it a second chance and hopefully the same bonehead we love will be back to its status of best chicken burger we’ve ever had! fingers crossed :)

Unfortunately me and my partner had a mixed experience here and I ended up with food poisoning. We visited on Sunday and were sat down quickly and drink orders taken. I ordered a margarita but what I was given tasted like peaches and passionfruit, they dealt with this well and took it back and off the bill. Our food came out fairly quickly and my partner enjoyed the chicken burger they ordered. I got the thigh and leg but unfortunately when it came I was queuing for the one toilet they have. This queue took so long, I ended up going next door to cherry reds as did another woman. By the time I got back my food was warmish, I started eating and it tasted good but I was worried it looked a bit pink. I was unsure about this as it was dark inside the restaurant so hard to see for sure and since I didn't want to cause more hassle after sending back the marg I decided that I was probably just paranoid, I ended up just not eating too close to the bone to avoid areas that looked pink to me. Within the hour after I felt nauseous, this continued through the night, I got intense stomach cramps and had issues the next day so I'm pretty sure I got food poisoning from this. I know I should have sent the food back in hindsight/not eaten any but I should also not have been served undercooked chicken in the first place. I'm disappointed overall as I had heard good things about bonehead and was excited to try it but unfortunately on this occasion every element of my visit fell flat and it made me ill. I would warn against ordering the pieces as, being on the bone, these are more prone to undercooking.

Brilliant food, a friend of mine from abroad wanted to try Liquid Death and only realised it was here by coincidence. It's really on brand that they had it on sale. Only downside is it feels slightly claustrophobic when busy, and there is only one toilet. Could use just abbit more room.

Food was ok but service absolutely shocking from a junior member of staff who was English - after he threatened to kick out of the restaurant the English individual amongst us at the table unless he answered an emotional, confrontational/racist and politically charged question after eavesdropping uninvited on a small part of the wider conversation. Our group was made up of English, Iranian, Australian and Indian work colleagues. Manager apologised but the waiter was way out of line. If you can’t speak politely and be respectful- you shouldn’t be dealing with customers.

The wings with chill oil or whatever it’s was, was so disgusting. It was basically friend chicken with sweet oil thrown on-top. I couldn’t even finish my meal. It was so NASTY!!! The only reason I’m giving it a two is because the staff were okay.

Absolutely top class! While I was staying at the EasyHotel across the road, I ate here 4 nights in a row. The burgers are ALL great. The Nashville fries, buffalo tater tots and cauliflower bites are must tries too! Huge shout out to the staff (especially Luke) for being so warm and friendly. The playlist is banging too!

I was a little reluctant to go there, because I thought it would be gross, like too fried and oily, etc. Gosh, I wish I had gone sooner! Mu husband and I went ti try the burgers and, obviously, they were the best chicken burgers I have ever had in my life! We will come back to try others options!

The food was very good. The staff is nice and helpful. The sitting area was a bit small, but all in all, it was a good experience and definitely will go back.

Buffalo burger was incredible but the wings were mid and the chips weren’t seasoned enough.

I love bonehead, been a few times. Though I was disappointed last time because they added an 'optional' service charge. Which we were not informed of until getting the receipt. We probably would have tipped anyway but this practice has soured my experience of somewhere I really like.

Really nice food but not allowed to have fun… The gent that sat us down, bar lady and our waitress were all great and the food was really nice. Unfortunately, as we were finishing our food we were told to stop laughing as she didn’t want anyone to complain… we didn’t realise this was a no fun establishment. Nice food but won’t be returning.

Favourite spot in Birmingham. They serve incredible fried chicken, waffle fries and wings. Bar has a great selection of beers and the atmosphere and aesthetic is awesome, heavy metal tunes blasting all evening. The buffalo wings are incredible, 100% recommend. I return every time we visit Birmingham. 🤘

A cracking chick shack, wings were flavoursome, meaty and juicy, their craft beer offering was better than the nearby Brewdog. Great friendly service and a place you’d defo go back to again and again.

bonehead chicken tenders made me see the face of god

This is the second time i have been here. Last time i had a wings platter which was excellent. This time i had the leg and thigh in the bonehead seasoning with a side of parmesan tots. The food was really nice. I have had better tots and these felt like they had been frozen previously. The chicken was excellent. Nice and crispy skin and succulent meat. My mate had some strips which were very good. We had the aleoli dip which had lime in it which made it a bit sharp and the buourbon bbq sauce which was excellent. Service was quick and friendly. 2 double vodkas and the food was about 50 quid. I will revisit.

Bonehead is close to Grand Central train station. They will keep your luggage safe in a sideroom while you tuck into one of their burgers and fries. Mind you, the front door is a bit heavy, so push hard to enter. We came for dinner before heading for a film but we ended up being late for the film as our food took 40 minutes to arrive at our table. We ended up with a greasy meal, an item that we did not order, and lots of disappointment. I don't understand the hype around Bonehead; the decor is more American bar/motorbike style, food is poorly seasoned, lack of flavours and too greasy (the fries were original-I had the cinema fries which would be the best part of the meal for me)... After reading all the great reviews, we had high hopes and were looking forward to trying it out. The quality of the food doesn't justify the price (burgers around £11 and fries about £5.5), and we won't go back again, would happily stick to our KFC.

Está ordenado y las mesas están limpias, pero no esperes el Ritz, no está destinado a serlo. Es Cabeza de Hueso. ¡Disfruta el viaje!

I decided to try this place after reading the many positive reviews. I’m not sure if they were having a bad night but I can only rate my food and I was very disappointed with my food. I waited 40 minutes for the food to arrive and when it did eventually arrive, it was extremely greasy. There was a very thick coating of breading & skin on the fried chicken & the actual chicken was dry. Overall, it was a very salty meal but lacked depth of flavour. I did not like the food here and the unreasonably long wait also contributed to the low score from me. I’m glad I tried it to know what the fuss was all about but it’s not for me. If I want fried chicken, I’ll stick to making my own at home.

Absolutely delectable burgers. Not a single item was lacking in taste. Justified the long wait to get a seat.

Love the atmosphere, the rock/punk/metal tunes and the grungy aesthetic are great. The chicken is to die for. Probably the best place for fried chicken in brum :)

The fries with coleslaw on top were a really nice touch. Chicken is high quality and great portions for the price. Will return when I'm back in Birmingham.

Possibly the best fried chicken burger I've had. Lemon wings were good. Great range of craft beers on tap too.

Visité bonehead por primera vez con mi familia para almorzar la semana pasada y me quedé impresionado con lo buena que era la comida! El restaurante es bastante peculiar y oscuro, pero no podía faltar el servicio y la comida. Mantenga el buen trabajo no puede esperar para volver.

Come for the friendly staff, staff for the atmosphere. Despite us arriving close to closing time, we were well accomodated and desperate for food. It didn't take long to get drinks and food arrived soon after. As a vegetarian, I would prefer a bean burger or similar as the fake chicken truly did taste like chicken (that's a positive for those who want it though!). The service was excellent - The wait staff are flirty but still professional. Definately come if you are in the area and give it a try!
