Went here as a start of a celebratory weekend in the area and chose it for its good menu options for my wife who is Coeliac. However, despite the NGC claim on the menu they actually didn't have much choice at all. To be fair, the food that the non Coeliacs had was pretty decent (apart from not much meat on the ribs), However, the service was appalling. It wasn't busy but we waited over an hour for our food. The place felt like it needed a good clean, especially the carpets. Suspect it lives off its location. Fortunately it didn't spoil our weekend, although we were a bit late starting, but would not go back

We had a very poor Sunday Lunch. Roast potatoes were like bullets, the carrots were mushy and probably the worst cauliflower cheese I have ever been served in a restaurant. Deep fried Yorkshire Pudding which desolved when cut. Everything seemed reheated. Won't be back in a hurry.

Unfortunately for the boat house we visited on a night when the visa was down across Europe, but we had cash. There were a few tables reserved, but these were not full. People had already left due to the visa system being down. However, they would not accept any more food orders, they really weren’t busy. I’d suggest that they get better kitchen staff who can cope with a tiny bit of pressure. Poor service all round. Unfortunately for them more people have just left and they have also lost our business. Take away it is!!

Very expensive local beer which can be obtained not to far away for 50p a pint cheaper . Staff not very attentive to customers and not trained very well . I saw a couple wait in a almost empty pub for quite a while before someone appeared . The music is ok if you like boy bands quite loud .

Whilst visiting the area for a family wedding, we decided to dine here as it was close to our hotel. The worst mistake we have made since leaving Australia 3 weeks ago.On arrival we were informed there would be a 45 minute wait for food and that was fine. After an hour the bar staff informed us that the chef had told her not to keep asking if we could order, and he had now decided he was not going to cook anymore. When the manager eventually came to talk to us (20 in our party) we were told lies that seemed to change continually. The very busy chef and staff had time to stand and stare at us through the glass door rather than cook though ? The manager basically told us she was looking after the function upstairs and could not do both, and admitted she Didn't have a clue what was going on in her restaurant. We were getting nowhere and decided to taxi back into town. When waiting in the car park the very rude manager came out and said "you won't find anywhere else to eat at this time of the night; we could make some nibbles" We did find a restaurant that accommodated us all, and I'm sure were very happy with the amount of money we happily spent. Please don't waste your time or money at this venue, the owner obviously doesn't need the patronage.

Shocked at the lack of service. We called the Boathouse at 14.15 to ask if they are still serving food & would take a table of two, they gladly agreed. We entered & sat down to find no other customers or staff. We waited around 10 minutes still no staff, we called the bell on the bar, still no one.18 minutes later a member of staff walked through the bar, itching his bum the whole time! Ewwww! He looked at us but still no service. Then a chef walked to the toilet also spotting us, but not a word was spoken. Thanks for nothing! Ps we are loads of your mine pies of the bar.

Twelve of us visited The Boathouse on a Friday lunchtime to celebrate a 70th birthday. We had booked so they were aware there would be a large order . We had a look at the menu and after about 15 minutes our order was taken. We all order main meal and no starters. After about 45 minutes wait with no apology for the delay our meals arrived. I ordered the bubble and squeak and was disappointed as the outside of the bubble and squeak was soggy instead of crispy. One person had fish and chips and the batter had little fish content. Two people had stir fry which was very small and cold. The prices were average.A lovely setting over looking the marina but food not anything special.

Where do I start, a few of the managers from my company decided to meet after a business gathering between all the ceo's. We decided on the boathouse (worst decision ever, you might aswell burn your money) The service was slow and oretty much non existant, the waitresses were beyond useless the we spoke a couple of times to a woman called Jo? ...... well a bulldog chewing a brick comes to mind, what a misrable lady. Right lets get down to the food, It was reheated from days ago, well thats what it tasted like, it was cold and very poorly cooked. I wish i had not wasted my money worst place i have ever eaten. Go there at your own peril but i recommend staying well clear!!

We came here with a group of friends for a meal before Christmas. Good things first. Nice venue. Nice table. Very helpful to be able to pay individually for our meals. Now the bad. Our waitress was so rude I couldn't actually believe she was allowed to work there. There was no niceties, she looked like she would rather be anywhere else than serving us (new job perhaps? ) and when she 'served' us our food it nearly ended up in all of our laps as she threw it down into the table. One of our party knew the nice chap behind the bar and asked him to have a word. Things got mildly better. One of our party didn't know until the last minute if she could come. We phone an hour before we arrived to order her food. This was fine. She ordered a burger, not once did anyone ask her how she would like it cooked. It came out pretty raw in the middle. She could not eat it. We sent it back even though we were told that it would be at least 20 minutes before it would be cooked again. She said not to bother. Then 10 minutes later a sheepish waiter bought a burger back. Half the thickness, still red but she was hungry so ate it. The waiter said she didn't have to pay for it so all fine. He then went on to say the chef said that is due to the type of beef and that the type he uses never loses the red in the inside even if cooked well done. Well I'm no chef but that Is total rubbish! Then the puddings came out. A few of us had ordered the chocolate torte. One of us had this, the rest of us received a chocolate mousse type thing which clearly had been knocked up by the chef at the last minute. When questioned the surly waitress admitted they looked different and even she mentioned it to the chef who replied well that's what they are getting. We wouldn't mind normally, but apart from the burger, we had all pre booked our meals including pudding. Clearly the chef had run out and sent out this poor substitute. Not good running of a kitchen. I have been here a few times to eat with small and big parties and it has never been like this. It will make me think twice about returning, suffice to say the week before Christmas when it's restaurants busiest time and it was only half full, speaks volumes. Sort out your waitress and take the chef down a peg or two before is to late!

Great location, some nice beers, but don't expect to turn up un announced! As canal boaters we turned up for a plate of fish and chips and were turned away as they were 'fully booked'. There were no tables occupied apart from in the 'Restaurant'! Other boaters had their Domino's delivery made to The Boathouse car park while they had a beer, madness to turn away boaters who just want some food! It's in a Marina, which makes a great setting, but they clearly don't encourage casual trade on the doorstep. Good for a beer?

Firstly lets start off with the positives, food amazing, young staff brilliant and setting lovely.. It was my elderly mothers birthday, so as I have used before and enjoyed I booked us in. In total a table of seven, there was one other large table but very quiet for a Saturday. We purchased our drinks at the bar and took our table. After being seated for a while, we went and asked someone to take our order. Time went on a round of drinks and a bottle of bubbly drank, still no food. We asked how much longer the food would be it had been ONE HOUR and we also asked to speak to the manager. The food came out in drips and drabs , first two, wait, another two came out, then, one ,wait, one, wait ,one . My daughter who is autistic always notes times and it was one hour from ordering to us having our food. The manager never came out, so I asked the older lady waiting if she was the manager. She was the manager, so we asked why she had not informed us of this, as we had asked to speak to the manager. The conversation went rapidly down hill, we were called liars and she was so argumentative that my father spoke up, which is something he never does. All we wanted was an apology, it turned out they were a chef down and only had one on the pass. The manager forgot to mention this, it was other staff that informed us. She also said she had the ticket with time on, so we again were lying. All I know is from when at our table we gave our order, to us all receiving our food was an hour. To say it spoilt what was meant to be a happy occasion , I have never been spoken to like that in my life. Shame on you.!!!!

The food is good but I feel it is over priced for what it is. There are no vegetables served with the meal but have to be purchased as extra. The surroundings are very pleasant but feel that some people may be put off with what you get with the meals. The sweets are very nice and a good helping but again overpriced for what they are. This could be a gold mine if they got it right.

We've dined on Sunday lunch a couple of times - the first time being on Father's Day (12.30pm) - lovely meal, all hot & service was good - hence the 3 stars.Second time was last Sunday (1.45pm sitting) what was going on?! Service was incredibly slow, we were served by no less than 4 members of waiting staff - there seemed to be a lot of staff front of house but none of them doing a lot! We opted to go straight for the main course - which took an absolute age to come out & when it did some of the dishes were only luke warm (I'm not sure about the braised beef as a roast option but that's another story) - but as this was 2.30pm by this time we just ate it. We did find it very odd that the roast meals came out from the kitchen covered in gravy though. Portions are of a very generous size though. We were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu - yes please. Waitress disappeared into the kitchen with our plates & took 10 mins to come back with the menus!! We ordered dessert. Lovely as the flavours were again it took ages, my sticky toffee pudding was barely warm. One of the children's sticky toffee pudding came out with cream instead of ice-cream - this took ages to rectify. In all honesty had this been our first visit to the establishment we wouldn't be returning. Fortunately, we had dined before and it was good so we will give the benefit of the doubt. It did look very much like there were far too many front of house staff (not doing a lot & faffing around in the bar) & not enough in the kitchen. No one seemed to be managing the staff & boy did it show today. Get your act together Boathouse - it's a competitive world, if you don't you'll lose returning business to the competitors.

The food was tasty, well cooked and ample- not keen on the thick sandwich bread. Service was prompt and pleasant. The only criticism I would make is the outdated shoddy outdoor furniture. Two members of our party are elderly but luckily they managed to get their legs over the benches!!!!!!!!! Think they need to smarten up the outside and new furniture wahoo ups be a priority!! Together with my wife and grand-son we arrived for a lunch time meal not having booked in advance and had plenty of choice of tables choosing one overlooking the Marina. Service was prompt and courteous, drinks arriving in a short space of time. The main courses took quite a while to arrive, but they did arrive together. The Sea Bass was nicely cooked and presented, but the bed of greenery was excessive and half the amount supplemented with a helping of rice would have improved the meal considerably. Quantity of all meals was adequate, well cooked, and were of high quality. Total cost including 3 soft drinks came to £40.00 We left feeling well satisfied. One observation to note....noise levels vary considerably as there is nothing to absorb noise in the form of soft furnishings....a full house would be difficult for anyone with a hearing problem.

Waiting staff all friendly & seemed well organised, able to move from one area to another whenever they were needed - bar, to restaurant & back again ensuring smooth, prompt service in all areas. Food arrived promptly & we all raved about our own dishes. Sadly we could only manage 2 desserts which were just sublime & not to be missed. Moved to the soft seating area for our coffee as it was full so we thought it would allow them to reseat our table (which they did very quickly). Cost for 4 mains, 2 desserts, 2 coffee, 1 bottle wine, 2 pints beer & 2 soft drinks = £83 - Bargain!!Premises is modern & delightfully apportioned while using all the space fantastically well - lots of windows making it light & to overlook the canal marina with all the barges moored in full view. We decided to go along yesterday for a late Sunday lunch - they managed to fit us in at 2.30pm and the place was really busy. We ordered a range of different mains all of which met with approval. The service was good and it was decent value for money. The only things that stopped me giving it 5 out of 5 are: loads of dirty glasses stacked up on the bar (although to be fair it was the end of a busy lunchtime); the dessert menu didn't have any 'light' options; there was no biscuit served with the coffee.Overall though an enjoyable experience and we will be returning soon.

Dropped in with family for a drink last weekend and sat outside as we brought the dog. This visit was the first time I’ve eaten here since the refurbishment, which I think is very nicely done. We popped in on the way home from my daughters and were greeted by the pleasant barman who got me my drinks and was happy to put them on a tab as I said we’d be eating. We were first in (about 5pm) and sat in a sunny area overlooking the marina, cutlery and new looking menus arrived immediately. Our order was taken by a very pleasant (Mexican?) waitress and I also asked for a dish of spicy peanuts from the varied selection of snacks on the bar, only £1 a go. I’d had the smokey nuts previously which were scrummy, but give the spicy ones a miss – greasy, not spicy and stained my fingers yellow. The food arrived in good time and was nicely presented, I had guinea fowl (because I’d not tried it before) & my wife had the pulled pork. The portions were good and we had no complaints, then we got a surprise ‘would you like your complimentary desert now?’. Seems that on Wednesdays you get a selected free pud with your main meal – I had treacle tart, obviously streight from a packet but nicely served with a portion of cream, my wife had fruit pavlova. Lovely touch, I’ll be sure to pop back if we’re passing on another Wednesday.

I live just along the road from this pub but rarely visit, as my first experience not long after it had opened was awful. The food was terrible and it did put me off. However, the sunny garden enticed us there yesterday and i'm glad that we gave it another chance, as the food this time around was delicious! The staff were friendly and helpful and even prompted us to order a free dessert after our main courses - an offer we hadn't even realised was there. The only niggle that I have, is the refusal to run a 'tab' for customers who are sat in the garden. I understand the principal of why this happens but it is the only pub I know of in the area that doesn't allow this even with the offer of a bank card and driving licence etc. Still, we had a lovely evening and will definitely go back.

Not even worthy of one star review tonight. Beautiful setting and nicely decorated, waitresses lovely and helpful but food a total let down! Table of 15, last orders so not even a busy period. 1 lamb under cooked, 2 steaks asked to be medium came out still running with blood, gammon under cooked, admittedly all went back but after a nearly hour wait for all meals shouldn't happen. 3 pork tenderloins ordered 2 of which very dry and Luke warm the other perfect. But none came with vegetables?!? Why don't meals come with veg and if you want veg you pay and extra £2.50 on top of £15 ish per meal! I ordered a salad due to diet restrictions and waitress offered plain chicken breast to make it more of a meal... Perfect. but than charged £6.50 for lettuce, carrots and chicken! Yes these complaints were passed on to the staff at the bar but was told "I don't sort the prices" and then was blankly stared at. Shall not be returning. Ever. Totally Down hill since change of owners and a complete waste of money.

Such a lovely setting. But the food was horrendous. We walked in to a very warm welcome from the staff. It was quite busy. Which we took for a positive. I had the ploughmans lunch. Which involves no skill whatsoever. The bread was stale, the brea was off, the salad was old and limp. We also had the crab linguine, which tasted liked it was cooked days ago. Not to mention the shell that was in it. Such a disappointment. On a positive note. The manageress was very professional. Apologised and didn't charge us for the food. ( which we didn't eat). Good customer service. But unfortunately we won't return.

We had dinner at the Boathouse. It’s just outside the town, and as this was our first visit, we walked out during the afternoon – a pleasant 20 or 30-minute walk mainly alongside the canal, depending on whereabouts in BonA you start from – to drop in for a drink and do a reconnaissance. We liked the look of it, so booked to come back to eat in the evening. It’s in a great location, on the very edge of a canal marina, and we had our pre-dinner drinks at a table outside. When we moved inside for our meal, we were still only feet from the waterside, and as the restaurant has floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows we could continue watching the narrowboats and the activities of this year’s ducklings. All of the staff that we encountered (4 or 5) were exceptionally friendly and helpful; I still had some of my drink left when we asked for the bill, and there was absolutely no sense of being hassled to move on. The food was good, my wife’s tuna steak especially so, and the menu is fairly broad. There is a large carpark, and a separate fenced play area for children.

More a restaurant then a pub as a lot are these days, however does decent ale none the less. Food was excellent, had the lambs kidneys starter & lamb rump main. Cooked to perfection in my opinion. Also a good place to sit with a coffee & cake overlooking the marina bonus I can see our narrow boat from the bar! Frequently drop in for a pint.

On our first trip here today, we found the Boat House good to the eye, smart and clean and great views of the Marina.Perfect for a Lazy sunny day.Menu seemed fine lots to choice from.If you stayed to snacks and sandwiches it was reasonable, but hit the main menu and we found it quite pricey.Pot of shredded pork with a few greens and a potato plus apple sauce £13.50,looked lost on the plate,a 10oz gammon came out to be only 5oz if we hadn't mentioned the portion nobody would have, not good behaviour. At roughly £13.50 to £ 19.00 for mains I think all extras should be included not extra.Would we go again, certainly ,if they get the portions right and price

The Boathouse Restaurant is located in a good position on the outskirts of Bradford-on-Avon adjacent to the Marina on the canal. The accommodation is spacious and has a pleasant atmosphere, but the furnishing could be improved by making it less formal and generally a little softer.Wednesday maybe a quiet day when the menu offers a free desert if you order a main course and when we were there the service was excellent. The staff are very friendly and engaging. The starters and the deserts were very good. The mains we had comprised lamb and pork dishes. The meat was very good, but a big disappointment was the lack of fresh vegetables to accompany the meals. Fortunately, I requested chips with the lamb dish which made it look more like a meal than a snack. However, the chips were white, not golden brown as you might expect. The pureed vegetables, which I describe as baby food, really took the edge off what could have been very nice main course. One of the staff agreed with my views about vegetables.Generally, The Boathouse offers very good value for money and with relatively minor improvements would be highly recommended.

I found this pub/restaurant on the internet after searching for somewhere to take my husband for his birthday, along with 2 friends. The men approved of the beer on tap and we had a very nice table by the window overlooking the marina. There was so much choice on the menu that we took a while to decide. The starters arrived after a suitable amount of time. Everything was delicious. The main course was fantastic, although we had to ask for extra vegetables as the puree didn't quite cut it with the men! These duly arrived. Desserts were massive and filling. The only negative was the staff definitely need more training, especially when serving wine. The young lady poured 2 full glasses, without asking if we wanted to try it. My husband then advised her how to do it, including the twist of the bottle after pouring! We shall return in the future to see if she remembered her lesson!

Ate here for the first time since it has been refurbished by the new owners and was surprised by the quality of the food. The service needs a little work as it can be a touch disorganised (we were served by 3 members of staff over the evening and at one point were asked by 2 different ones if we wanted dessert). My food took a little longer to come out than my friends but this was explained by the staff as "the chef wasn't happy with your dish so he cooked it again", which shows some attention to quality.Positives:Good quality fish coursesNice beers on tap (including Gem and Tribute)Negatives:Staff a bit green (more training)Music, it's not intrusive but Robbie Williams on a loop isn't my tasteThe menus need simplifying - you need to wade through breakfast and lunch options before you can find the dinner menu

Well, where do I start. I'm not racist but the staff couldn't even speak English, not a good start. The beer was so flat I shouldn't have even ordered food. Food looked nice to be fair, but it had a hair on top of my chips. It wasn't a head hair either, and it looked like it was placed there so god knows how the so called chef and other staff didn't notice it. Attention to detail. Obviously not. I returned to the bar as the staff didn't come round to ask how the food was, and asked for a refund (baring in mind we don't pay for meals at the start) so he gave me a cash refund there and then. I assumed he was new as he was apologetic and was still going to charge our table at the end as he couldn't remove the meal from the order. Upon settling up, some strange little waiter accused me of stealing. It's not my fault you are incapable of processing orders correctly little boy so please excuse me if your head falls off.

I came here for a birthday meal with my partners family as it was his mum's birthday. Upon arrival it was lovely they seemed polite and asked us for drinks etc then it got worse. I had ordered a special dietary meal which I had ordered days in advance, about an HOUR after everyone else had eventually had theirs after me and others asking for things they forgot like steak sauces and chips, I still want sat there with nothing! I had only ordered a salad! I had asked 3 times by now and about 20 minutes later it came. Not once did they update us on any of the food as it was delayed or say sorry. No one asked us if everything was okay like I would presume you would. We had to complain to the manager and the birthday atmosphere was totally ruined by this anger that we had to wait so long for the meals to arrive. Some of the food was small portions for what they had ordered, granted others said it was lovely food but I am not complaining about the food as such just that I am just angry and stressed out about how long I had to wait, We ordered about 1.45 and I didn't get mine until 3.10! it was brown rice, veg and prawns... I will not be going back.

Called into the Boathouse on the way home from the London area. We didn't appreciate just how popular this place is and when asked about eating we were told they may not have a place available. To their credit we were seated and then served a very nice meal. The Boathouse is set in a small marina area and can imagine it being very busy in the nicer weather especially on the outside terrace overlooking the marina. All in all a nice visit and would recommend.

Its been 9 months since we last called in. So quick phone call 24 hrs before arrival, fixed time and even prefered table - and we arrived! No complaint over service or food. Slightly over-enthusiastic wine waiter unscrewed wine bottle, poured 2 full glasses, handed them over and asked 'do you want to try it? Bit of training needed but hey, screw top £16 - not exactly vintage sampling/quaffing!! Saturday night busy but food served well, hot and tasty. Again, it aint fine dining but they deliver a menu with flair and variety. Young staff are to be complimented on their 'can do' attitude and service. We will be back - again!

Eight 'senior' canal boaters met at this pub prior to picking up our craft. Eight arriving at any time is not easy for a restaurant, but they coped well enough and menus were soon brought after the initial drinks were purchased. Meals arrived a little haphazardly but the content and presentation was good and the lunches enjoyed by all. Some items on the menu were 'off' but this was explained and caused no difficulty. Last time we were in this area the Boathouse was closed for refurbishment, and now decorated in modern pastel shades it is a pleasant and convenient place for a group to meet. Some past reviews are not so hot, but we found the staff and general atmosphere of the restaurant pleasant, and would visit again.

This is not the first time to visit here, and yet again have been disappointed, long time in between all aspects and lack of staff coverage.Although the service was acceptable, improvements can be made. A very comprehensive menu with fancy food, but a few traditionally recognisable main meals would not go a miss. Not the place to come for a quiet meal with drinks! Background music at times can be quite over powering.

We've driven past this place so many times and said we'd call in, finally got round to doing so on a Friday night. The place was empty apart from 2 other couples although virtually all the tables apart from one at the front had reserved signs on them, no one actually came and used those tables the whole time we were there (90 minutes), one of the already occupied tables was vacated, cleaned, then re-used.The menu is extensive, perhaps a little too crowded. My partner ordered the seabass, I ordered what I believed to be the pulled pork however the pork tenderloin arrived. I gave it a go and whilst both dishes were very good we were both still hungry after finishing them :( There was no veg to speak off with my dish apart from a small sweet potato and leek gratin underneath, it needed more veg with this dish to finish it off completely. As we were still hungry we opted for a dessert. It was a nice touch that the young waitress brought us the menu's open at the right page for us (as it is so extensive). I decided to break with my usual pudding tradition and tried the boathouse sundae (cookies & cream ice cream, blueberry compote, maple syrup, toasted pecans, mini marshmallows, fudge) which was basically a fudge, fudge and more fudge dessert! The ice cream (single scoop) at the top was delicious, however the huge pieces of fudge throughout the dessert really spoilt this for me there was just too much of it. Also the mini marshmallows and pecan nuts were right at the bottom of the dish as opposed to being sprinkled on top as I expected. My partner had the cheescake, the way this was presented was simply stunning and I was rather jealous I hadn't chosen it myself. The cheescake itself was delicious however there was no need for the sorbet added on the side in the basket, it was too much and took away from the amazing cheescake. All this said, we are prepared to come and visit to give it a second chance as there were other options we would like to try.The only other comment I would make is that it took rather a while for the food to arrive considering it was virtually empty and that as they turned the lights down for the evening they really should have come and lit the candles on the tables to create more of an atmosphere which was sadly lacking

We have visited the Boathouse today for my sisters birthday, did n't know where to go so looked on the internet this seemed to offer all we were looking for. When we arrived there was plenty of parking, only a few steps from the door. When we walked in we were greeted by very friendly staff who quickly got us seated overlooking the canal boats, lovely ! Took a while to choose our food, as the menu offered some mouthwatering choices. When it arrived we were delighted, it was delicious and perfectly presented, we glanced over to the next table as they were served their desserts, they looked gorgeous, so it would of been rude not to have one! We had the cheesecake and the chocolate brownie, absolutely scrumptious.Definitely will be going back so we can try some of the other choices on the menu. 10/10

First visit here since the refit, and whilst first impressions were good, in the end we couldn't get out of there fast enough. On the occasion of my mothers birthday we thought we'd try the Boathouse, something a little more central for the group to meet at. Arrived on time @12:30 on a bank holiday Friday, not to many others guests and all seemed well.We were warmly greeted by the staff and quickly seated and attended to with drinks and menu's. Orders were taken and shortly thereafter we received our starters. Mushrooms got the thumbs up, so did the lambs kidney's. The duck tart was a little lacking in the duck department and what there was was a little dry, other than that the first course was well received by all. That's where it started getting noticeable, the noise that is. The place was filling up quickly and so was the noise level. If you're hoping for a comfortable lunch then perhaps you may like to think about another venue, when the place fills up, you're not left with much room between tables, so you'd better get on with your neighbours. Can't quite work out why there is more space available in the lounge area than there is in the dining area, when after all this place is touting itself as a restaurant more so than a pub. One or two fewer tables would be better to make more room for your guests - just a thought.By the end of the main course, a couple of pulled porks, a couple of gammons and a fish and chips the restaurant was 70% full and 100% volume, we couldn't hear ourselves think let alone hear what the party members were saying. Main's finished and enjoyed we were in two minds whether to pay up and leave, although seeing as we had a sweet tooth in the party and it was their birthday we stayed for a round of cheesecakes, meringues and coffee. All of which like the other courses were very nice.Again though we couldn't wait to get out, so quickly settled and left.In summary, nice decor, friendly staff, good food, but horrendous noise levels.Would return, but not on a bank holiday or weekend.

I have been to the Boathouse quite a few times for food with family, my husband, and friends (with our children). Every time has been a pleasure, the food is consistently delicious, the service from staff has been consistently good, and (who I think is) the manager, has fantastic customer service skills. The decor is lovely, inviting and relaxing. The outdoor park is just right for younger children to play with in the nice weather, and it also has a catch, high enough up so little ones can not wander off.The food tastes just as good as it sounds on the menu, and the children's menu is well thought out for what most children's favourite dishes are.As my family and I live in Bradford on Avon, we will definitely be visiting this lovely, welcoming establishment again.

A party of 9 adults plus 4 children turned up on a Saturday lunchtime unannounced (we thought a relative who lives nearby had booked for us). Fortunately because it was early, the place was not very full but it did soon fill up. The very friendly staff quickly arranged tables and we were soon seated. The food was generally very good and came within a reasonable time. And they had one of my favourite beers, Sharps Doombar on tap! We have been here before when it was previously "The Beef and Barge" and the refurbishment has been carried out to a high standard and has vastly improved the place. The new type of credit card machine was also "very high tech" and is bluetoothed, but apparently doesn't work very well by the tables, so hence the reason you have to go up to the bar to pay. We will certainly return again.

Despite being only half a mile from my home, the previous incarnations of this pub were absolutely dreadful, and I rarely went there. The new Boathouse proprieters have totally transformed it, making it light and airy, with comfy areas and plenty of light and space. When we first visited, they had not quite cracked the issue of service (I suspect they had no idea how many customers they would have!). We've been back four or five times since, and these issues are well consigned to the the past: young staff are confident and helpful, without being oily. The vast all-day menu (cleverly sectioned and categorised) covers just about everything, with one or two interesting flavour and texture combinations which you would find in much more prestigious (and pretentious) places. The atmosphere is bright, spacious and informal. yet the food is diverse, well-cooked and tasty.

Our orders were taken on time but we had to wait 40 minutes or so for the food to arrive and one lady was waiting quite a while for her Lamb Shank. The food was hot and to a high standard and everyone seemed pleased with it and would come again. The staff tend to congregate around the corner of the bar and seem to be distracted away from the customers. We were excited to try the Boathouse after its big make over. The make over is a very big improvement and looks very cosy and welcoming. Unfortunately the food has not improved. I could only describe it as another basic bland pub food dish. Although the menu does look very impressive when the food came out there was nothing to make me go wow which us such a shame as I was hoping for big things. I would not rule going out to the Boathouse again but I would prefer to use it as an outside pub garden in the summer as there are lovely surroundings. I did get the feeling that more time, money and effort has been put into the decoration and gadgets for the staff to use.. whereas this probably should have gone more into the customer service and food.

We booked well in advance for Christmas Eve as we have eaten at the Boathouse twice before and it's been lovely each time. As there was 9 of us who all live in different areas of the country, we decided to have the normal menu instead of the Christmas one to make things easier as you had to pre-book the Christmas menu. As we sat down it was quickly apparent that they hadn't put any music on which we thought was strange as, like a lot of people, like to have abit of ambiance with our food, especially on Christmas Eve! Not everyone likes Christmas music but something would of been nice. The service was not as great as previously experienced, and had heard from friends that they wouldn't recommend the boathouse because of the bad service they had received. We weren't offered drinks and had to go to the bar every time we wanted one. The food however was amazing. But unfortunately the attitude and knowledge of the waitresses put abit of a downer on the evening. My partner is a manager in the food industry and said he wouldn't want anyone like that working for him. When you have a table full of empty glasses and the wrong cutlery etc and you can see the waiters/waitresses standing around the bar chatting, and then having to ask for your bill at the bar also as no one was around, it is very off putting. On Christmas Eve the boathouse should of been a lot busier, and I do think it has a lot to do with the staff. It's such a shame as the food was so lovely, but for our family it's about the service, the food and the ambiance. With no music, bad service but amazing food, it's a shame.

Absolutely dreadful! Advertised a la carte menu replaced with a 'bar' menu. Took the waiter 15 minutes to bring a menu and ask if we'd like drinks 40 minutes for food to arrive which was not hot. The pork belly my colleague had was wrapped in gooey fat not crackling, the pumpkin sauce was a teaspoon of orange 'something' and the seasonal veg was mashed potato and some peas. The chicken burger was deep fried and tasted of old fryer fat as did the 'tepid' skin in chips. Presentation of the burger was non existent and the two tiny leaves of lettuce were brown. This was fed back to the waiter when he finally returned to our table his response was he'd mention it to the Chef. The after dinner treat of sticky toffee pudding was solid and rubbery, not moist. The tiniest bit of ice cream and a token gesture at the sauce all was tepid. The dining room was cold and drafty. The decor tired and wall paper peeling off the ceiling and walls. Utterly awful experience with nobody interested in the overall shoddiness of the service and food. Really disappointing, especially as this is the closest hotel to work. A real missed opportunity for this Hotel and Restaurant.
