We stayed nearby I Nidd area and walked into the village of Ripley Castle to get a feel of the area and booked a evening meal. We was not dissapointed on sevice, portion quality and did some thing we had never done. Book the next 3 nights to dine and choose something different each from the menu. Between us we tried 6 different items and felt quality service and price was consistent throughout the 4 nights. One night was extremly busy but we were kept informed and not as long a wait we hope. Tip book a table if you can, price we was amazed for the quality and price how reasonable it was. We also live in a very sought after to visit area and these prices were improved on ours.

Very good food at very fair prices. Polite and friendly waiting staff. Great response to small issues raised. I had fish pie which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife had coronation pie which she loved. Pastry excellent. One of the very best meals we’ve had all week (at various restaurants in the area). Couldn’t fault it.

We decided to stay for a few nights on a friends recommendation and we are glad we did. Beautiful location , excellent friendly helpful staff, food excellent .. the full breakfast is a fair challenge even for the heartiest of eaters, dinner in the restaurant very good and wide variety of choice. We stayed in Keepers 2 room in the courtyard, this room is ideal if you have any disability problems, walk in shower, comfort height toilet ,makes life easier for the with knee, backer hip problems or like myself just getting older. Very enjoyable stay but a few slight niggles I feel could be addressed. Keepers 2 is quite dark inside, two side lamp and a standing lamp don't give adequate light, plus the wall colour of gloomy green doesn't help, perhaps a change of colour may help. The water pressure/flow is poor in the shower and taps, a pump in the system my increase the pressure. The restaurant was very good although a family dining next to us seemed to require their sons bike/ scooter to be beside him to play on , was that really necessary whilst dining. Apart from those points it was a very enjoyable visit and I would fully recommend you give it a try .

We visited The Boars Head Pub last week for lunch .The meal itself was fine but sadly it was spoilt by the drinks experience . I asked for a glass of Malbec .Unfortunately this was only supplied by the bottle and not by the glass .I asked for a glass of Shiraz instead which was lovely . However when we received the bill to our dismay the glass of wine was charged at £ 11.00 !!!! This was nearly the same price as my main meal ! Sadly this spoilt the whole experience of our visit to the Boars Head .I did not query the bill but unfortunately for the staff no tip was given .So my tip would be check the wine list before ordering !!!!

Having just spent 2 fantastic nights in the Boars Head I wanted to say how safe I felt. This is the first time my husband and I have stayed anywhere since 2019, due to Covid. I was very impressed with all the safety measures that are applied at this establishment. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We stayed in the room The Poachers Den, this was immaculately clean and was refreshed each day. We ate one evening in the Hotel Bar, although the menu had been reduced due to staff reductions in the kitchen (Covid safe) there was still plenty to choose from, and all food served was nicely presented. At Breakfast your shown to your table and asked if you required fresh fruit etc, then what you would like as your main Breakfast. Again all staff adhering to Covid restrictions. I would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again when visiting the area. North Yorkshire.

Its been some years since we last ate here and we won't be rushing back. Service was mixed - some great staff and some so inexperienced that it spoilt our enjoyment. The food was 'ok' - fish and chips were good but the pork belly not so nice and the bruschetta frankly amateur. Wine list was interesting and some decent wine by the glass. The dining room atmosphere is dreadful. The pub area somewhat better. Sorry, I want places like this to do well, but this just isn't good enough at the moment.

We were on the first day of the Nidderdale Walk, walking from Pateley Bridge to Ripley and we expected our stay at the Boars Head to be the gastronomic highlight of our 4 day walk. some much si that we invited our husbands to join us. We arrived back from our walk and enjoyed a glass of wine outside. When we went to book in I asked if we could add the drinks to our bill and was told No I need to pay then. We were shown to our rooms and when we went to my friends room there was a dog bowl with food in the room for some reason. The Manager seemed as surprised as us and went to check we had the right room. We never heard anything more so " who knows". We all went down to dinner and although I specifically booked the restaurant we were seated in the bar. I went to check and we were transferred to the restaurant. We were given the menu and I explained I was a coeliac and required Gluten Free. I had also requested this when booking. The waitress came to take our order and I had to repeat that I wasnt sure what they could do which was GF. The menus were left on the table and a waitress tried to bring another tables meal to us. Is there no system here . The food was very very average. Fish cakes pate nothing special . My husband and friend had the burger and my husband ate his because he said he was so hungry but my friend left hers. Both said they were dry and over cooked. I had the pork which was fine but over priced for what it was. We managed to improve our dissapointment with a bottle of red wine which was delicious. On our way out to our rooms we were asked to pay the bill which felt really uncomfortable and not what I would have expected. We joked saying we obviously look like people who will run off in the morning without paying. Breakfast was a shambles the waiter was constantly confused by the manager interferring in the same tables. We had 3 peope asking to take our orders and then having to attract attention to ask for something which was missing. The breakfast was poor quality. The scrambled eggs over cooked. toast toasted on one side only brioche missing from the dish. Please get your act together and show leadership and organisational skills.

Extremely clean, big bed, access to TV & WiFi. The breakfast (included with the bedroom) was so delicious! Apart from the basic cereals, yogurt, fruit & croissants there is a quite long list of meals prepared by order. We ordered porridge, eggs Benedict and eggs & salmon on toast. The full Yorkshire breakfast hit the spot, with everything cooked to order. The usual buffet suspects were available for the lighter eater..Never rushed or hurried with lovely staff serving our requirements..Front desk staff were also nice, friendly & very helpful.Would have no worries staying there again..

Pre Christmas dinner for 4, the gals had visited the week before for a market and thought it would be good to go here for dinner. Arrived a little early, shown our table in the bar area. I thought I had booked the restaurant, this has been mentioned on other reviews.Within a couple of minutes, we were asked to choose food - I asked if we could get drinks first which created some confusion. Drinks were ordered, I asked for wine and was presented with a list by bottle only. Had to visit the bar to get the glass menu. Had to again slow the server down and politely said we would order drinks, then food. Drinks arrived wrong - my friend had ordered Old Peculier and he got a shandy !Ordered food, the lad struggled with what pheasant was but we explained it and showed him on the menu. 5 minutes later another server arrived, a much more together young lady who asked us to give her the food order again. After that, she looked after us for the rest of the evening. We asked if he was new...... sadly, he wasn't.That said, the food was very good, the beef cheek was superb and the duo of lamb very tasty.Deserts were shared as per usual.Good customer service creates good customer retention. I am not sure I would choose to return in the near future because I do not like having to chase staff or correct staff during service. There is too much choice of great dining venues in Harrogate to put up with this. Sort front of house out and you will thrive.

We came here for a lunch time drink after a morning in and around the castle but were left somewhat underwhelmed.I enjoyed a decent pint of Theakston's but my partners first lager was warm so it went back. The second was flat with no body to it so that went back too. Finally, a change of lager brand later, we got a lager that was cold and had life in it.We then sat at the only table available which was full of dirty plates and glasses which some 10 mins later the waiter did and clear and apologise for not having cleared sooner for us.

Four people visited on a Friday night. It was very busy when we arrived around 8.00 p.m. with lots of families but quietened down soon after. The service was erratic. Some of the courses were forgotten and some of the dishes had elements that were just missed off!!!! Soup was tepid and other starters not hot. Example, black pudding Bon Bon was missing from pork dish. When we pointed it out the dish was taken away and returned with said Bon Bon. Unfortunately it was still cold/frozen? in the centre. Bacon was missing off Liver and Bacon dish and the actual liver was so tough and stringy it was impossible to eat it etc. etc. The bill was £140 for three starters, fours mains and one pudding. Plus one bottle of wine and a few soft drinks. Not a problem if food up to scratch but extremely excessive for what we received. It was as if chef could not care less and just wanted to get the night over with. We did not want to make a big fuss at the time as the people we had gone with recommended the place. However, before writing a review on here I decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt and called up to see if there had been a specific problem on that night. I spoke to one manager (John Barclay) who said he was not on duty that night but the general manager (Dave Nixon) was on duty and would call me back after 6.00 p.m. that day. That was over a week ago. I think I have given them chance enough to redeem themselves. Hence this report.

Having been to this hotel before in the past, I decided to drop in for a couple of beers being a lovely sunny day and soak up the atmosphere of the village of Ripley. The hotel bar serves some really great beers, but that is where my great experience ends. The hotel really needs to be updated as it is really stuck in the 1980's decor period and does need to come into the 21st modern century. The staff although very pleasant do need to smarten their appearance for the standard the hotel is portraying and charging customers, as I have seen better dressed cleaners at other hotels than the staff at the front of house of the Boars Head. Maybe it is just me being fussy, but I think people should have a better pride in their work appearance and the hotel should have a work uniform !!! Keep on serving the great beers and I will be back and you will will keep on getting repeat customers.

Only booked here as had the Ripley Castle Segway experience booked and had a small disagreement with our original booked hotel left us needing to find alternative accommodation in the area quite quickly. The location couldn’t have been any more convenient, just a short drive from Harrogate centre, right next door to Ripley Castle. Lovely walks round the area through the bluebell fields and the stay comes with complimentary access to the castle gardens which is a right result! The room was spotless and light, nice views over the village, vibrant pub area with two outdoor seating areas which was perfect for the weather we had. Breakfast was cooked to order so no awful buffet grease, the staff were friendly and helpful and the area is beautiful. Would definitely stay again if I was returning to the area.

When you walk into this establishment do not be put off by the hotel receptionist who guides you to the “pub” Upon walking In to what looks like a badly decorated tea room/cafe with a few beer pumps I was delighted to find a wonderful selection of food on the “light bites” menu, beef ham or cheese sandwiches at £6 and the option of chips. Or a selection of 3 sweets... disappointing to say the least. At £11.80 for a peroni and a medium house wine, and £2.50 for 6 chips. My conclusion would be that it is an extremely overpriced tearoom that I would never ever step foot in again.

We have being visiting this cafe for over 15 years and always enjoyed visisting with family. The team in the yellow uniforms were always friendly and the prices VERY resonable. We enjoyed Xmas luches here and have great memories playing crazy / mini golf. Visited today hoping to enyoy cake and a latte, but noticed new owners have taken over. Sadly not a patch on previous set up and sorry to say the wonerful home made baking was replaced with uninspiring offerings. Latte was the worsed i have had in many years, can only be described it as white coffee, the owner was unimpressed and rude with me asking for a replacement. Will not be returning.

Gluten free review for the cafe: I visited the Druid’s Temple today and went to the cafe for lunch afterwards. Gluten free cakes and sandwiches were available. I had an ultimate hot chocolate and a trout and cream cheese sandwich (GF bread), and I’m sad to say that neither were very flavourful. The hot chocolate was weak and watery, and the sandwich was very dry. It’s a shame because the setting is so beautiful! A word to cross contamination, I have reacted to the food that I had, so I suspect that the chopping board used for my sandwich may not have been cleaned down before preparing my food (or similar). There was also a gluten free chocolate brownie which was in the same cabinet next to gluten containing cakes, with tongs that customers could use to select their own cakes, but no separate gluten free pair. If anyone from the cafe happens to read this, from coeliacs and gluten free people everywhere please could you make sure that cross contamination risk is limited through simple measures such as cleaning down a surface before making gluten free food (we don’t mind waiting a bit longer for piece of mind!), and that GF cakes and sweet treats are kept separate and using separate tongs etc? When we find places that don’t gluten us we share it heavily in the community!

Stayed here on our way home to the West Country we stay almost every year. And this year was just as good as previous years. This year we stayed in house opposite the room I believe was called Braxton? It had a shower over the bath and a nice sized bathroom. The bed was huge and very comfortable, there ware extra pillows/blankets etc in a wardrobe if needed. There was kettle and cafetière with coffee bags. The breakfast the next morning was all cooked to order and great poached eggs. I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying there again next year. :-)))))

Having visited the Tontine several times in the recent past, we looked forward to a nice Sunday lunch as a family. The visit was marred by underwhelming customer service, requests for water took several attempts before being served, the staff seemed uncommitted to delivering much of a service, and the food , frankly was at best average.I’m afraid that in view of the negative impression we had, it will be some time before we return, there are so many good local places to eat, it really is a disappointment to have to be so negative, must try harder would be my advice.
