Went with 3 friends for lunch, found by accident, but well impressed with the food, the pub was very clean and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The only negative from my point of view was having black pepper put on my chips, can't see why they did that. I had the steak & ale pie which was delicious and all our food was freshly cooked and well presented. We will be back.

We visited today the food wasn’t good at all. The coronation chicken sandwich just tasted of vinegar and the chips were literally black. We noticed upon leaving that a couple next to us ordered scampi and chips (they must be local) as these chips looked lovely. We only live in Whitby and visit lealholm often but we won’t be returning here

We visit The North Yorkshire Moors on a fairly regular basis & The Board Inn has become our special place to eat, it’s idyllic setting in the village of Leaholm makes it almost perfect & we usually sit overlooking the river enjoying the peace & quiet whilst eating our lunch, the food is beautifully cooked & they have an extensive menu to suit most tastes, the staff are lovely & the resident cat sleeping in the flower bed on the wall outside makes me smile each time I see her, all in all we just love coming here & hope to continue visiting for a long time to come, many thanks to all, you’re doing a great job 😀

We often visit the North Yorkshire Moors region and I can't understand why we have never found The Board Inn before this. We booked in for dinner and received a warm welcome. The menu was on a large chalk board and presented with a very good choice of local produce. We chose a shellfish sharing board for starters and I chose the traditional beef casserole and the OH chose plaice fillet in king prawn butter. Both were absolutely delicious and mine was so large that I couldn't finish it. However, that was no problem, as the lovely waitress suggested I took the rest home in a box - Happy Days!! So nice to find a real pub with excellent food, super friendly staff and a good choice of ales and ciders. Can't recommend enough and will certainly be returning!

We were looking for a place to go to celebrate a wedding anniversary , which would provide us with excellent food of high quality, a warm welcome and really good service. Both my wife and I came up with the same answer....The Board at Lealholm. We were certainly not disappointed. Alastair and Karen are old friends and gave us a warm welcome, ( the same welcome that they give to all their customers). The choice of beers and wines were good and my wife remarked on how nice the dry white wine was.. We shared a Fisherman’s Platter as a starter, followed by a beautifully cooked plaice fillet which filled an entire fish plate. I had a superb beef casserole. All the food provided by Alastair is sourced locally, the plaice coming from a local Whitby trawler and the beef from a Shorthorn from Alastair’s own herd. Even the vegetables are locally grown. It is interesting that if you want to see where the food comes from, just look at the blackboard which identifies all of Alastair’s sources. I cannot praise the food highly enough. It was, without doubt, one of the best meals we’ve had in years, and we do eat out quite frequently. If you like very high quality food, quick and friendly service in lovely surroundings, The Board is the place to go. Thanks Alastair, Karen and staff for making our day.

The Board Inn is a great place for a friendly pint and to enjoy the lively, warm-hearted banter between the regulars. The standard of the food really takes things to a different level and was, certainly on this occasion, superb .... a view that several other diners also shared. The lambs liver was outstandingly good, with a gorgeous thick bacon accompaniment and gravy. The cheese and herb crusted grilled cod was just as good with beautifully cooked mixed vegetables. Service was also excellent!

I had the Roast Leg of Lamb and she had the Mutton both of which were perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful, there was plenty of fresh vegetables and extra gravy plus the mandatory Mint Sauce. Karen and Alistair have created the most amazing village pub with fabulous food. All are welcomed warmly, including dogs and children, and we love a trip to eat and also sample the great beers, wine and gin selection. Cyclists, walkers and townies(like me) are happy to chat to other guests. I have enjoyed many meals here -a Duck Race BBQ , hefty ham sandwich and chunky chips, Sunday roast lamb beef pork duck or venison all sourced locally, platters of meat and cheese. The menu is extensive and vegans are well catered for, just ask if you don't see something you fancy, Alastair will cook a gourmet dish specially for you. I hope I can still get a table here as people really should come and enjoy this gorgeous pub and restaurant.

Stayed here as part of a walking group of 6. The accommodation was fine if a little cramped due to sloping roof in a few rooms. We tried the cod in a Thai sauce, the gammon and the Mutton Balti. The cod was lovely but the sauce couldn’t be soaked up with chips. The mutton was nice though neither of those who had it, liked the sauce, which may be a matter of personal taste and the gammon with three fried eggs was considered a little heavy. My parents and I called in at the Board Inn last night, 30th of July, after a drive out in the hope we would be able to be seated for a bar meal. We were pleasantly surprised that there was, indeed, tables available. We sat in the bar area for a drink and to order and were then quickly moved into the restaurant and were served the beautiful freshly cooked meals within about 20 minutes. Neither of us could believe the quality of our meals. My dad had a gammon which had two perfectly fried eggs sitting on top. He said it was the nicest gammon he's ever had, and the biggest! At over an inch thick I think he was probably right! My mum had the homemade lasagne which, again, looked unbelievably good and she had nothing but fab things to say. Between my mum and dad was also a portion of veg, boiled potatoes and chips and, like everything else they were perfect. However! When it came to my food I find it difficult to express just how AMAZING it was! I had a slow cooked mutton balti which came with a popadom, rice, mango chutney and a relish. When I ordered it I asked if it was very spicy and was told it was medium so I took the risk and hoped I would like it, I was also told I could have some yoghurt to cool it if it was too much. When I came don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful dish of curry. Everything was well and truly perfect. The mutton literally melted in my mouth and the heat of the spices was just right so I didn't need to use any yoghurt. After such beautiful food we expected to be paying around £70 but were hugely pleased with the very reasonable £50.70 bill. That is including three excellent quality meals with fab Yorkshire portions, two pints of beer, one glass of white and one posh Rose Lemonade.I defy anyone to say this lovely pub isn't one of the best places to eat in North Yorkshire.

Visited last Sunday, very busy and obviously popular for Sunday lunch. I had the beef which was beautifully cooked and the portions of meat and veg were huge. I had made the mistake of having a starter so didn't have space for a pudding. We have booked for next Sunday to rectify the mistake. Good selection of ales, huge selection of ciders. Children and dogs welcome with well behaved parents. Not one to miss

I have been going here for the last four years now, and it just gets better and better.Everything you get on your plate is locally sourced or home grown. And best of all its all home cooked! not like some other places i could mention. The staff are very good, always making sure you are ok. If the weather is fine you can sit on the terrace overlooking the river or inside the restaurant with all its local memorabilia. ooh the sticky toffee pud and custard is to die for!!. On our last visit four adults and two children the total bill came to £75, that was mains, puds, and drinks.Outstanding value! cheep for the surroundings, the food, the beer, and the atmosphere. Its a must if you are in Whitby or the surrounding area.

This is the second time we have eaten at the Board Inn whilst visiting the area and this time we took our friends with us as our first visit last year was amazing and they did not disappoint us. All our meals were fabulous and the Clams are to die for. The welcome and service is very warm, honest and friendly as is the pub and restaurant. Look forward to going back next time were in the area.

If your in the area you have to go here. The food was amazing we had beautiful steaks(£18 huge main meal)perfectly cooked, homemade chips, lovely fresh salad and vegetables. We also had hand dived scallops with bacon( main meal £18) fresh haddock with prawn butter(main meal £15). The desserts where just as good chocolate brownie with handmade ice cream. We took our dobie with us and we couldn't have been made more welcome. A really friendly pub in a beautiful setting make sure you have a look around the pretty village after dinner. I would advise booking to avoid disappointment as very popular. No phone service but free wifi.

Good menu with lots of variety and reasonable prices - though not cheap. We have a lovely starter of tomatoes and goats cheese. Main courses were very generous - a huge piece of gammon and enough delicious chips for 4 rather than 2! Food was definitely good - but perhaps a little too much. Friendly service. Good espresso afterwards.

Over the past three years I have frequented this Pub and have never had a bad meal or pint. The food is generous, made to order from fresh quality ingredients with an emphasis on local produce. The local Highland Beef steak is superb. The Ales are always good, usually Black Sheep plus two guests. The atmosphere is good, quite a few locals frequent and the pub is very dog friendly.

The board inn is what a country pub should be. Warm, welcoming, great food and great beer.. Second time we have eaten here and high expectations were met. Possibly the biggest steak I have ever eaten. Food is locally sourced and cooked by a 'chef'. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble and slight variations on the menu to meet your taste were welcomed. Have tried to dine here on several occasions at last minute but it was full so book your table in advance. You won't be disappointed!!

After a superb midweek lunch (reviewed 13/10/13) my wife and I decided to book the Board Inn for Sunday lunch and also invited my mother and father-in-law but what a disaster! After placing our orders we waited with great anticipation for our lunch to be served. Initially, we were served a huge bowl of what were supposed to be roast potatoes but unfortunately they were totally cremated and almost inedible - they were so hard that we had to leave them. The meat, lamb and beef, ordered by my wife, mother and father in law was so tough that they could not cut it. They requested steak knives however these made little difference and in the end at to admit defeat and leave it. My son and I ordered steak pie which was overcooked but reasonable. Our Yorkshire puddings seemed more like pancakes and were obviously warmed up from some hours before. The range, quality and quantity of vegetables served was poor - we did not have enough for a decent portion each. I felt very embarassed particularly after telling my in-laws what a great place it was. I wanted to express my disappointment to the landlady however she seemed pre-occupied with a group of her friends and in the end I chose not to create a scene especially in the company of my family. We will not be returning to the Board Inn again - we will continue to frequent the nearby Forge Inn at Aislaby and Jolly Sailors on the moors road where we know that quantity, quality and value for money is guaranteed.

After a 5 mile circular walk from Lealholm, most of it in the pouring rain, my wife and I plus our little Yorkshire Terrier headed straight for the Board Inn. We were immediately greeted with a warm and friendly welcome as we made our way into the cosy and comfortable bar. I was impressed by the number of real ales on offer and the extensive range of lunchtime bar meals to choose from. We chose sandwiches and two bowls of chips - what a great choice! The fillings and homemade bread were superb and the portions of 'real' chips were enormous! We witnessed a variety of meals being served to other customers and they all looked fantastic. We will be returning here in the very near future.

The Inn is situated in a beautiful village, is very small and meals are served in the restaurant, bar and garden, weather permitting. We went for Sunday lunch on a hot day and were at a table in the bar which was rather warm but populated with a number of visitors and regulars who were extremely friendly. Food was very good and showed some imagination with unusual options and vegetables and the portions were more than adequate. The staff were excellent, friendly but not intrusive and the service was good. Will return.

We were just passing by to have a drink, but decided to stay for dinner. The staff tried very hard to find us a table (it was Sat. and fully booked). Everything was perfect. I ordered fish, and it was fresh and cooked to perfection. The home-made ice cream was to die for. We will definitely go back when we go to North Yorkshire next time.

The Board Inn is a classic country pub set in beautiful surroundings and the dining experience is one not to be missed. We visited last Saturday evening, having been there once before. I have a lactose intolerance but this was not a problem as everything is cooked to order and the chef could adapt anything on the menu so that I could enjoy a fantastic and varied meal. We enjoyed three delicious courses (but were extremely full afterwards). The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The service was excellent. I would recommend booking if possible as this is a very popular Inn. I can't recommend it highly enough. We will definitely be back during our next holiday in Yorkshire.

We were recommended this pub by a local chap in Glaisdale, and we were not disappointed, the ham, egg and chips (child size) was large and as you can imagine the adult size even bigger, the child scampi and chips was also large and the adults size, yes that was even bigger too. The food was excellent, the atmosphere very warm and friendly, being used by locals and tourists, the staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The area is lovely and it is a lovely village, well worth a visit if you are in the area, we were also allowed to take the dog in too. There is outside space for eating but as it was snowing we decided to stay inside by the nice warm log burner.

The Board Inn is a classic pub, with an outdoor area for when the weather is fine, a cozy warm, stone walled bar area for when the weather is cold, and a nicely furnished dining room any time of the year. It is the only pub in Lealholm so you will always find locals. If you want a drink before dinner, there is a surprisingly large selection of single malts, and draft beers/ales. The chef LOVES to make you happy so if there is something you want that you don't see listed (i.e., children's meals, etc.), just ask. Remember that all meat, fish and vegetables are locally sourced, so you won't find strawberries in the winter. In fact, if you are interested, there is a board where he lists which farms, etc., provided the produce, dairy, honey and the meat you are eating that day. All sauces desserts/puddings and chutneys are homemade. Along with what you might expect on a restaurant menu, i.e., lamb shank, Whitby fish, rump steak (aged on the premises), you will find unique soups and appetizers (i.e. wild boar terrine). If you are wanting a vegetarian meal, that is easily accommodated as well. An additional plus is the large portions, which my husband appreciates. We have always had excellent service, great ambiance and a meal that is never forgotten. It is worth the drive if you are traveling the North York Moors--only 10 miles from Whitby, not far from Pickering, Scarborough, Middlesbrough.

6 of us went to the Board for a meal, on a night when really all sane people would have stayed tucked up at home. As soon as we arrived the warmth of the bar with its open fire and Rayburn hit us, what a great reception. We hade drink on arrival and then moved to the dining room which was very festive with super table decorations, crackers etc. We had pre-chosen our meals so the only difficulty was remembering who had which dish. I had the souffle , which is new to meal and I have to say it was really tasty and so very light, the roast veggies were perfect with lovely crispy bits on the edges. My lemon mousse was very .............lemony and a perfect way to finish a perfect meal. The rest of the party fully enjoyed their meals, all having 3 courses and no complaints. The girls waiting on were brilliant. All in all the place is excellent
