Blue Moon Cafe in Sheffield

I went here with my friend after shopping and found a very poor service. We had got there late and the waiter said he was very sorry all the food to order had gone. Having eaten here in the past and really liked the good quality vegetarian dishes such as chick pea casserole and green olive pie I was disappointed to find some poor quality, overpriced soya rolls. It's worth me and friends making the effort to get here early to sample the good wholesome food to hope this was just a one off and that it will be better in the future.

Rosa, the chef at the Blue Moon, is full of imagination as she produces delicious vegan meals which even dedicated meat eaters will enjoy. Colourful, varied, extremely tasty and satisfying, and she made a stuffed pumpkin dish especially for my friend, avoiding all ingredients to which she is allergic. She was delighted. I will return.

We had lunch at the Blue Moon today and were really impressed by the quality of the freshly prepared food. The chef has a deft touch with spices. I have complex allergies which I had notified ahead of our arrival and the pumpkin and hazelnut dish prepared for me was simply delicious. The two other members of our party ate from the menu and were equally delighted. We sat comfortably chatting for quite a while. The staff were friendly and attentive.

I was looking forward to my lunch there as whenever I've visited Sheffield for the day over the last 10 years or so I've always had a nice lunch there...but...sigh...things have changed since my last visit. It used to be counter service so you could get your food straight away and there was always somewhere to sit because the space had a reasonable number of albeit tightly packed tables. Now it is table service and fewer tables, so harder to get a seat. All the staff were behaving as if it was their first day on the job, and the kitchen was having "problems" to quote one of the staff - this might have explained why the advertised carrot and coriander soup magically turned into "curried carrot soup". I had to wait 30 minutes for my meal as opposed to the 30 seconds on previous occasions, and the homity pie looked as if it had been beaten up on its way to my plate. The accompanying salads were nice however. What a shame! So on the way out I said "goodbye" to the Blue Moon Cafe. Anyone got any recommendations for budget vegetarian food in Sheffield City Centre?

Stopped for a coffee and cake, what a lovely building, old yes, but really interesting. Very friendly staff, all smiles and helpful Good luck to the newbie who started today.

Had lunch today at Blue Moon Cafe for first time in several months. Food was so tasty - I had the carrot and cumin falafels with 4 different salads. All so well put together and flavoursome - could have scoffed more! Only reason I've given it a 4 rating is that the staff member on the counter told me it was table service and then forgot to come over to the table and take my order, so I eventually had to go back to the counter to ask to be served. But hey, small beer in the grand scheme of things. I do thoroughly recommend this cafe and its excellent food.

Really enjoyed our latest visit here. Great spaced out tables and table service. Food was excellent - very tasty falafel option with salads. Homity pie classic was good. Sweet potato fries generous portion and super crispy. Only criticism is plain options for children are non existent. I would bring a pack up for them next time.

We were on a day trip to Sheffield and had researched this cafe before arriving. It actually exceeded expectations. The staff were friendly and the food was wholesome and delicious (and generous!) We would definitely return if we were in Sheffield again.

Amazingly tasty and healthy food with perfect ingredients and flavourings. I'm not a vegetarian and this stuff is just superb. Nice wine by the glass.

Lovely building, the ceiling is wonderful! The food was very good and very filling! Service was really friendly. I will definitely visit again next time I'm in Sheffield.

Visited for the first time this week. The building is in need of some money spending on it, it’s not a very relaxing environment, tables and chairs felt like a school canteen. Staff not welcoming or friendly, nobody seemed to know the protocol when arriving re: sitting down, ordering at the till or table service, one chap walked out after being ignored and not knowing what to do, he obviously didn’t feel welcome. The service was painfully slow to the point that I wanted to start helping them when hot food was left by the chef on the counter and the two ladies were doing other things, hot food always takes priority. Tables not cleared and deserts brought over whilst the table was full of plates. However, and this is a big however, the food was superb and arrived very quickly. Would I go again, absolutely, good vegan food is hard to come by. Fingers crossed for staff training and a paint job etc.

My twin brother Stephen and I had just visited Sheffield Cathedral ( Catholic Church Of St Peter And St Paul ) and decided to drop into Blue Moon Cafe and what a great find. Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here, a cosy interior, lovely decor and furnishings, lots of tables and staff who are genuinely pleased to see you in their cafe . We were here on a Monday morning, greeted with a smile by a very pleasant member of staff, we ordered a cappuccino coffee each, these were served steaming hot, we relaxed with our coffee's and planned out the day ahead. My coffee was really good, from the first sip till the last sup you can tell they use quality ingredients in their coffee and take great pride in the coffee they serve which probably explains why this cafe is so popular. We both really enjoyed our coffee's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to Blue Moon Cafe we were totally impressed. Blue Moon Cafe is easy to locate along St James Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Saturday, 8.30am till 4pm. Sunday, Closed. Most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The cafe was only about 1/3rd full when I visited. The only comfy seating at 1 low table was taken so I took a seat at one of the other tables. The server was prompt with menu and with my coffee. I had a cafetière which was extremely small. The coffee was quite tasty and had a lovely aroma. The brownie that came (no other vegan desserts) was a bit dry but perfectly pleasant. I would say that the atmosphere was pretty dull. Maybe due to kack of customers bit also the absence of cheer or friendly decor. I didn’t feel that it was welcoming and when I asked for a till receipt I was given the credit card slip. Nothing else was forthcoming. Probably wouldn’t revisit unless with a groups and going to have a meal. (Bring your own cushion)

Almuerzo saludable y sabroso. Tienen una buena selección de comidas principales que vienen con una combinación de ensaladas diferentes. Realmente agradable y bueno para llegar a mis cinco al día. Me encantan los relojes en la caminata que muestran las zonas horarias de Sheffield, Chesterfield Doncaster y Barnsley.

Después del bloqueo, acaban de reabrir para llevar. Venga a tomar café y pasteles y pida comidas (plato principal con ensaladas) con media hora o más de anticipación. Hay lugares agradables para sentarse en la plaza al aire libre. Comí falafels de zanahoria con ensaladas, un capuchino de leche de avena descafeinado y una hermosa rubia de mantequilla de maní. Todo vegano y sin gluten para mí, aunque hacen otras formas de comida vegetariana. Definitivamente vale la pena una visita.

Visité para el desayuno hoy. Café bien pero pidió tostadas de masa fermentada y mermelada. Sin mermelada y luego se quedaron sin mermelada de frambuesa. Tuve que pedir más mantequilla para servir rebanadas gruesas que eran imposibles de comer y atravesar la corteza. Edades esperadas como aparentemente el primer lote quemado. .Personas aleatorias dentro y fuera del área de servicio, incluido uno de alta visibilidad que se sirve a sí mismo.

We visited one lunch time for cake and coffee. Nice selection of cakes , and the food looked really good, shame we had just eaten elsewhere. Next time though .....

I've been meaning to try the Blue Moon Café for a while and finally paid a visit after staying over in Sheffield to watch a band in the Leadmill (Ash were on if anyone's even remotely interested or bothering to read this). The building the café is located in is really old with a massive atrium above the dining area and the décor is in keeping with the age of the building but as a result does make the place appear a bit bleak like some kind of canteen in a Siberian gulag.The scrambled eggs on toast was served up as a decent portion, tasted ok and helped heal the damage inflicted from the previous night. As an impulsive and indulgent creature; I couldn't help avoid purchasing two thirds of the shops stock after seeing the array of tempting vegan/ veggie cakes, slices, baked goods and pasties. Service was a bit slow and there was a bit of confusion over the bill which saw me overcharged. It did appear to be a genuine mistake and not the staff trying to take advantage of the sorry and desperate state I was in.

I frequently eat at the Blue Moon when in Sheffield; a delicious salad range to accompany the changing fresh main courses which are consistently tasty. There is plenty of space and the cafe is unlikely to be full so you can go almost any time of dat and find a seat. Friendly staff and a pleasant venue. Despite being a veggie cafe it's great for vegans too.

Siempre están a la vanguardia del juego, comida vegetariana, comida vegana y bebidas alcohólicas y ahora, sin desperdicio, con la aplicación Too good to go para reducir el desperdicio de alimentos para que pueda llevarse a casa una bolsa mágica al final del día. ¡Eso si eres rápido y tienes la suerte de conseguir uno! Estos pioneros siguen haciendo comida fabulosa, sabrosa, saludable, libre de crueldad y ecológica sin problemas.

Fuimos a las 10:00 y estaban más interesados en poner mesas y sillas, el café abrió a las 08:00.Pobres y limitadas opciones vegetarianas / veganas. Suave y demasiado salado. Pedimos que nos devolvieran el dinero de los huevos revueltos porque no eran comestibles. Falta.Para nosotros, fue el servicio. Me sentí muy mal en este café. Notas agresivas pasivas en las paredes y falta de carisma de los servidores. Se ocuparon tres mesas, por lo que no hay excusa para no tener tiempo para interactuar con los clientes. Un miembro del personal se dirigió a comer el suyo en el desayuno, ignorando a otros clientes. Limpió su propia mesa para servirse mientras descuidaba limpiar otras mesas de personas que ya se habían ido. Grosero.Al instante me sentí mejor por dejar este lugar. El personal es perezoso y ridículamente lento. Una revisión anterior los describió como hoscos, estaría de acuerdo.Ahorre su dinero / tiempo y coma en otro lugar. Sheffield es una gran ciudad con muchas otras opciones para elegir. No dejes que este café y su miserable personal estropeen tu comida.

Pedimos un buffet para 22 para un picnic.Mientras que la comida era en su mayoría buena. Nos quedamos muy decepcionados con lo mucho que conseguimos. Más como 12 que 22.A 8 por cabeza usted esperaría un poco más que un par de samosas y ensaladas.

He estado aquí unas cuantas veces y está bien. Se siente un poco simple y atrasado cuando se trata de comidas veganas. No es necesariamente algo malo, pero la calidad de la comida es lo que más me molesta y es simplemente promedio. Tal vez si el precio fuera un poco más bajo, se pudiera entender, pero pagar casi 8 por una comida espero que sea mejor. El personal también parece un poco triste y monótono. Así es el interior para ser honesto.

Such amazing food for a veggie and the vegan options outstanding, really tasty and fresh and 100% go again! Have to agree with the last review that the staff member I interacted with was a bit cold even when I made basic conversation. But the food would deffo make me return again!

I visited Blue Moon when visiting a friend in Sheffield. The food is wonderful - fresh, well presented and well priced. Sadly, the staff are sullen and unresponsive. No greeting, no pleasantries, please, thank you, without a spark of enthusiasm. The only time that happened was when they were talking to each other. Cheer up and be welcoming and this place would be awesome.

vegetarians vegans and coeliacs all fabulous food! spoiled for choice from scrummie cake, bursting burritos, super salad plates, every chance we get when near sheffield, right next to the cathedral so I don't get lost!

Choose from hearty fare such as vegetarian cottage pie, soups and salads, or enjoy an indulgent cake with a coffee. Staff are very knowledgeable about ingredients and special dietary requirements. This airy cafe next to the Cathedral also has a huge noticeboard, so it's a good place to go if you are looking for a local yoga class, guitar tutor, plant sale, folk music festival etc!

Always visit when we come to Sheffield the staff are always helpful ,and the Food is always fresh this place is well worth a visit you will enjoy

Attracted to here because of its review in the book '111 Places to Visit in Sheffield'. Turned out to be a pleasant surprise - quirky but very good. Interesting & spacious interior and easily found next to the cathedral. We had a late lunch on a Saturday but there were also lots of other tables occupied during our visit, so many others were having the same idea. Food was tasty and service pretty good as were the prices.

La cafetería tiene una amplia variedad de comida vegetariana y vegana. Todo es casero y deliciosamente fresco con ensaladas enormes con ensalada de col, remolacha, cuscús y una gran variedad de otros granos, verduras, frijoles y condimentos.

Pienso que la comida era excelente, vamos a dos comidas de los servidores con ensaladas: plato de champiñones con coliflor y berenjenas con tomate. Normalmente no somos veganos / vegetarianos, pero estamos inspirados en esto para probar la cocina más vegana / vegetariana. Tal vez yo le daría 4. 5 estrellas como no es fácil de navegar por primera vez. Pero definitivamente volvería por más.

Also go here when I’m in town for good homely vegan food! Also have 3-4 different choices on and the portions are really good! Deffo recommend for veggie/vegans.

El pastel de berenjena y papa estaba fuera de este mundo al igual que los postres veganos que pedimos. Mi amigo y yo salimos llenos y satisfechos. Amo este lugar. Gracias.

Nuestro grupo de 6 comimos un bocadillo rápido aquí el sábado. Aunque no suelen tomar reservas, lo hicieron amablemente cuando llamé unos días antes. Estaba bastante ocupado, muy contento de que fue tomada. Tienen muchas bebidas para elegir y una buena selección de opciones veganas y vegetarianas. Parecían tener la flexibilidad de proporcionar lo que queríamos, por ejemplo, porciones de tamaño medio para niños. Me gustaría volver y tener una comida aquí. Todo se veía muy delicioso. Lo que hubiera sido bueno, sería tener algo de historia en el edificio.

The food was really really good. We both had quesadillas- I thought they were more like burritos than quesadillas but whatever they were, they were delicious. The empanada thing we tried was delicious too.

called here recently and was disapointed the food was nothing you couldnt make yourself but what put me off most was the place looks like it needs a good clean . the old floorboards look like a haven for bacteria and bugs galore .The place needs a facelift its showing its age and the floor should be covered in something washable

Lovely eating space with a welcoming atmosphere. Staff were really friendly. I was surprised at the breakfast options being limited, as the cafe opens at 8am I expected their breakfast game to be strong. On the menu was toast, scrambled egg on toast or porridge. I ordered the porridge which was actually really good and the coffee is cracking. My little one (8) had the porridge too and enjoyed it. We paid just short of £9 for 2 bowls of porridge, a coffee and a glass of Apple juice - soya milk has an additional charge which I never are with personally. No fresh fruit available which isn't the end of the world as nipped to Tescos opposite for some bananas afterwards. Is definitely more of a lunch/tea venue I think and the cakes looked delicious. We will be going  back to try other meal options for sure.

We were looking for an independent cafe/restaurant and stumbled across The Blue Moon - a veggie/vegan cafe. It's an interesting venue a little worn with high ceiling and mix of table furniture.The food was all home made and tasty. It was standard prices (expecting it to be a little cheaper) but it was just what was needed. Would definitely visit again.

A great cafe with nice vegetarian dishes and friendly staff. It was my first time but definitely would go back as atmosphere was quite vivid and cosy. On a sunny day you will be able to feel the place getting bigger as it has quite a high ceiling and sun light brights the place up. Prices quite reasonable too.

This cafe is lovely. Very relaxed atmosphere and wholesome vegan food. Lovely salads accompany the main meals. And they serve proper Assam tea - perfect.

This indie hippy chilled out cafe in a beautiful venue is wonderful. The staff are friendly, the menu interesting and varied, the coffee decent and there are charging sockets and WiFi.

Nice space, with some lovely food options. The soy milk they use is absolutely outstanding.

It's all just a bit... dull. The building is lovely and the pace has a nice feel to it but I con only presume people have mostly used it as cafe for tea and cake as the other food is decent if very uninspiring.

I came here recently with a Vegan friend who was visiting Sheffield. I have been many times, i use to be a regular visitor when it was on Norfolk Street many years ago. Then it was smaller, more intimate and seemed fresh and inviting the staff were always very lovely, professional welcoming and helpful.

Now as featured in the new book "111 places in Sheffield that you shouldn't miss" by Michael Glover! This is a vegetarian and vegan cafe right inbetween Sheffield Cathedral and the Church House pub. It's all one big open room with very high ceilings, painted white and blue, with an almost Santorini style (but a little 'older' looking than those iconic Greek Churches!). There is a very large notice board area, over spilling with meditation and yoga class adverts, and the famous 'international' clocks reminding you of the time in such disparate South Yorkshire cities as Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster!

Visited for a quick lunch on recommendation of a local guy when looking for somewhere serving vegan food. Tasty, filling vegan options with a variety of salads. Friendly, efficient service and even let us take a box of leftovers away as we couldn’t eat it all! Highly recommend you visit this lovely little place

Generous portions of home cooked vegetarian (with vegan options) food. I've eaten here many times and it's always been delicious. Staff are always friendly too.

Had a fantastic meal tonight at 6Pm. Really fresh tasty vegan food. Amazing chocolate cake(vegan) to die for! So healthy felt great after eating here. Been many times over the years and have NEVER been disappointed! Excellent restaurant!

The food was awful and was out of date! No products like Coca-Cola were sold here just a local cola from a small buisness that were Communists and overall this is just one of those places you want Kim Jong Un's failed missile tests to hit!

A work colleague took me to this hidden away place right in the centre of Sheffield. I was suspiscious of 'volunteer' type food places, but I stand corrected. It is good food, friendly, unpretentious, reasonably priced. What else do you want? And it is a good cause, which makes the fresh home made food taste even better. Like mum used to make it (if she was a good cook!).

I like to eat at the Blue Moon café on the rare occasion that I am in town. The food is very nice; some regular menu choices with a few additional ones that change. The food is tasty and I enjoy dining in a meat-free place!

I asked for the casserole and the server proceeded to give me a serving, of the last remaining bits, from the previous dish. I politely asked if I could have my portion from the new fresh dish because in the previous dish, the inside of the peppers were separating from the outer skin (It was that dried out).

A good little cafe that has been established for a while now. Good choices for vegans including vegan cakes, ice cream, pasties. Main meals always cooked ready to serve so no waiting which is great if your in a rush or on a break. Gluten free options. Not a huge choice for breakfast but their toast/bread is homemade and is lovely. All food taste wise is very delish but have to say that over time potion sizes have become much smaller and has become more expensive, so because of that and the fact that the staff seem to find it difficult to give a smile, I don't visit regular but they do serve good home cooked quality food.

Called in hear for a business meeting and they let us use the upstairs room. Served coffee and tea to the room while we got on with things.

Just what you'd expect and hope for in a vegetarian restaurant. Lots of stripped pine and rather Bohemian. Nice pies, salads and cakes.

Nice veggie cafe next to the cathedral, I had a vegan curry and rice with 6 different salads, a huge portion of tasty food at a very decent price. The staff were friendly and boxed up a slice of chocolate cake for me to eat later.

This is the second time my husband and I have been to the Blue Moon and they have run out of half the salads and the main courses. This was early on a Friday evening and you would think the manager would have worked out how much is needed by now. Prices have also increased at the café and the portions and choices seem to be less.

Sitting just by Sheffield Cathedral, Blue Moon Cafe was such a lovely little surprise find. There was a slight canteen feel to the cafe, but that was actually a very nice atmosphere! A fantastic range of vegetarian/vegan meals to choose from, a great selection of all things vegan from ice cream to alcohol! Each main meal comes with a choice of rice or a selection of SIX salads (ranging from lettuce and beetroot to pasta and cous cous dishes). After a lovely main meal, we even had to go for dessert - a fantastic selection of cakes and sweet treats!Thoroughly enjoyed, would certainly go back again.

Situated in the former Eadon, Lockwood & Riddle Estate Agent building by the side of Sheffield Cathedral, this is a pleasant destination for coffee and cake or a more substantial vegetarian hot meal selection and your choice of salad accompaniments. Watch out though, because on more than one occasion I have arrived for lunch and the hot dishes have not been ready. Also, lunch times can be very busy and it is not always easy to get a table.The notice boards are a nice touch as are the various leaflets and pamphlets advertising local social events, etc.Open from 8am-8pm Mon-Sat (closed on Sundays), the Blue Moon Cafe is a pleasant haven for a weary traveller.

This cafe caters for vegetarians and vegans. I am neither of these but when I'm in town I will choose to eat there as the food is excellent. Everything is home cooked, fresh and tasty. The staff are really friendly and the building itself is quirky providing an excellent, relaxed atmosphere. Prices are reasonable and the portion size is generous. It can get busy as lunch times but I've always found a table. Well worth a visit if you've never been before. You won't be disappointed.

I stopped by to grab some takeaway food. I bought a drink, vegan carrot cake, and a 'Sheffielder' pasty, which contained Hendo's - LOVED IT! Great veggie option's for pasties as apposed to the regular cheese and potato.Slightly expensive for drinks, but everything else was reasonably priced.

I have been here a number of times and have always enjoyed the food. It is the place to go if you want comfort food and are a vegetarian . The portions are generous. The staff and atmosphere are my least favourite part.

I had heard about the Blue Moon Cafe from a friend and I thought I would pop for a coffee. I had a cafetiere and a vegan scone with homemade strawberry jam. Both were excellent and very good value for money, I now wish I had waited and had my lunch there too.

Popped in for coffee and then returned for lunch. What a great place. The food was excellent and very efficiently served by friendly staff. Certainly a place to be revisited. Located in a very central position, next to the cathedral. A great find.

We popped in for a coffee at midday on a drizzly Monday but couldn't resist the freshly-made tomato and red pepper soup, nor the courgette crumble, served with salad and rice... it was a feast! Really helpful staff and the cafe has a great atmosphere - it soon got busy so we were glad we called in early.

Food here is always very tasty and setting pleasant and peaceful. What lets it down is the staff. We had to wait 20 minutes to be served because there was one staff member was serving. In the end my husband had to ask if there was a another member of staff available to pitch in. I'm not sure if they work on a voluntary basis or what but customer service is not their forte

We visit the blue moon for lunch every time we spend a day or two in Sheffield. All the food is very tasty with well balanced flavours. It's also good value. The staff are friendly, and the atmosphere very nice.

Wanted a slice of cake to take away. Was turned away at 7.27pm because "they stopped serving at half past". Coming from the same industry this is something I've never done. Because it's rude.

My boyfriend is vegan and as a very fussy eater, I can't stand most vegetables and dread vegan restaurants. However, I had the homity pie (vegetarian) and Coffee and Walnut cake (vegan and gluten free!) and loved every bite! The food was so tasty and flavoursome, extremely good value(it cost under £10 for the pie, a burrito, cake, peanut butter slab and tea for one) with a nice atmosphere (sort of like those 'hipster' coffee shops). They serve drinks with soy milk and fair trade raw cane sugar. There are posters and fliers lining the walls, informing customers of local events and such, which I really appreciated. Overall, I'll be making this a regular haunt, it's so pleasant and conveniently placed in the middle of town.

Arrived in Sheffield for a short break and wanted to find somewhere that served vegan food. The nearest place was Blue Moon Cafe, what a stroke of luck this was. It was a hot day but the place was lovely and airy with the door and windows open. It had a quirky, informal and relaxing atmosphere. We had a vegan mediterranean bake and a brie and mushroom tart both with salads. They were excellent, my husband is not vegetarian however he said it was fantastic and unlike some vegetarian places we have visited he said the dish was so tasty with so many great flavours and not in the least bit bland. We bought two vegan cakes for dessert (so that I could have a piece of each), coffee/walnut cake and chocolate coffee torte both were absolutely lovely in taste and texture. At this point we decided we didn't need to find anywhere different in the next few days and started looking forward to finding out what would be on the menu the next day. We were already eyeing the quesadillas and burritos in the chiller cabinet (these seemed to be available every day). The next day we went back and ordered these, they did not disappoint, there was enough spice which was very pleasant and did not overwhelm the flavours, these were again served with a variety of salads (these also change daily, which surprised us). Pudding was again vegan and superb, date and cashew slice and a crunchy munchie slice worth ordering for the name alone, pleasantly chocolatey thing both of which we shared. Perhaps we had been a bit greedy that day because we had popped in earlier that afternoon for an ice cream (one of which was a local lemon and ginger variety). They also offer vegan ice cream which made me very happy! It does seem that sort of place that people just drop in.It was almost sad on our fourth visit as we knew it would be our last. Again the meals and the cakes were lovely with another variety of choices available, the vegan berry cheesecake was delicious as was the chocolate ginger torte. Over the four visits the staff were cheerful, friendly and knowledgeable of the meals and their ingredients. The prices were reasonable and the portions were a good size and we are planning on visiting again when we are on holiday in York in July, yes well worth an hour train ride for us.

Went there prior to a work meeting a found the place very relaxing, serving reasonably priced food and coffee. It's a nice place to think as it has great music on in the background and is tall and well lit without being stark. Great place.

Two welcome returns to this deservedly popular eatery for some tasty courgette, lentil, red pepper and coconut bake, a chickpea and veggie pastie, a lovely rioja, coffees and cakes.

Although I'm not veggie, the reviews made me want to try this place, but from first entering the cafe it felt very much like visiting a rather worthy but totally amateurish cafe run by students or volunteers of a local church group. The leaflets and notes littering the entrance didn't help and neither did the uncomfortable chairs, uncleared tables and non-too-clean floor.Usually I love homity pie, but this was a cold, solid lump of potato chunks served with salads - well, if you call separate bowls of lettuce, tomato, beetroot, pasta and potato "salads".Prices were average for a cafe at lunchtime - £21 for 2 with a drink, but very disappointing indeed.

I went with a group of London friends early Saturday evening. They loved it and thought we wer so lucky to have such a great place in Sheffield.

Food just about OK - substantial and not expensive but rather dull, a bit like the school dinners I remember from the 1960s. No attempt to present the food attractively - everything is just piled up in a heap on small discoloured plates - which, together with uncomfortable chairs doesn't improve the experience. My wife decided to have chocolate cake for dessert - I've never seen her leave chocolate cake after one taste before but this one managed to be both dry and claggy at the same time - not easy to achieve! Service was chaotic with tables not being cleared so it was hard for the queue of people wanting a table. After walking past it for years and reading many positive reviews I've been meaning to come here for ages and was very disappointed.

We visited in early afternoon, so some main dishes had run out after the lunchtime rush, but there was still a great choice. Of vegan and veggie international cuisine (Mexican, Mediterranean, Ethiopian) swift and friendly counter service, spacious and family friendly dining area on grand old bank building. Loved all the notice boards with local artists and clubs as well, made it feel like quite a happening hub. Wish it stayed open all night!

I have visited Blue Moon cafe a number of times and I usually have the same meal, Hommity Pie and salad. It is always excellent and my latest visit before attending the City Hall was no exception. The cafe has a great atmosphere and the staff are very accommodating. The only downside to my visit was the lack of a table initially. I was just about to grab one that was vacated but a couple walked in and grabbed it before I could get there from the counter. To be fair, a member of staff did offer to ask them to move for me but I went upstairs instead.

Great place ! I had the turlu turlu with rice and salads and then the amazing pear and chocolate crumble cake . Definitely worth a trip to Sheffield !

This restaurant is really vibey and busy. I'm not a vegetarian and I thought the food was great. My husband had a quesadilla which he described as "very very tasty"

I have been here many times. The meals are always tasty. It is a self service place with a casual atmosphere.On occasions they run out of some of the salads - but they had them all on this occasion.

This restaurant is always busy, serving very good vegetarian food, in a friendly welcoming atmosphere. Self service, no airs and graces, good wholesome food for a reasonable price.

Lovely place to come in the daytime for lunch or tea. I've had the hot meals here several times - you choose from one of the set meals, then you get to choose from a range of salad options. You get a very generous portion for the price, much better than most cafes in town, and it all seems very fresh and homemade. Simple, pleasant decor. Atmosphere is bright and welcoming!

We had tea here one weekday evening, so it wasn't too busy. We had a main course and a cake to share afterwards. It was a bit chaotic but as it wasn't too busy it wasn't a problem. Food was delicious and good portion, atmosphere relaxed in a quirky cafe. I would return.

I had wanted to try food in Blue Moon for ages but when I finally got the chance I could not enjoy it, simply because the service was not appropiate. There was a long queue and basically, the idea was ordering food and waiting with it on our trays until someone finishes and we could seat. Staff were really busy and could not handle all that. I will definitely give it another go since I really think the food must be delicious but I will avoid busy lunchtime, in fact, I had already had a coffee there and everything, both the beverage and the staff, was really nice. I guess I will be luckier next time!
