This is a prime example of the older generation trying to intimidate a young person. So, I was at Sportsman close to Crosspool Tavern for my sister's and niece's birthday. I went to order my food: BBQ wings, a burger, and Belgian waffles. I asked a woman who served me for a BBQ dip, and she said I could ask for it when they brought the food. I was okay with that. The lady explained that she was new and asked if I wanted fruit or a brownie with my waffles. I said brownie. Then, a man brought out my food, but I realized the BBQ dip was missing. I asked another male staff member, and he said it's 99p. I was okay with that, but he brought and was abit funny with me. I thought it was weird, but I ignored it. I also asked for my dessert to go. This man took my receipt and I told him I asked for the waffles and came back with a brownie and what looked like a small whipped cream in a box. I wanted to exchange it, but when the man at the till saw me coming, he turned around. Then, the lady who served me took my food and my dessert into the kitchen area to get exchanged . The man who was weird about the BBQ sauce came out and shouted at me, asking what I wanted. I told him I ordered waffles. He said, 'Well, everything is plated up.' I tried to explain that it wasn't my order and thats no my problem. but he kept repeating that everything was plated up, trying to force me to have an order I didn't even order. Finally, he said he'll go and tell the person who plated it up. Then, the lady who originally served me mentioned that he was having a bad day once again i said this is not my problem. After that, a big woman came out and started screaming at me, asking what I wanted. She shouted aggressively in my face, and I told her I ordered the waffles. The grown man was there, but he didn't say anything. Feeling threatened, I burst into tears, and everyone in the restaurant started laughing at me. My dad went to complain, but they lied to him, saying that I started shouting at them(anything to cover their backs), when in reality, I just asked for the waffles I even asked for them with nothing on to make it easier for them . It's really disgusting and awful that we still live in an age where people make stuff up about people and Intimidate people. Also, when the staff came to our table to clear the plates they lied about the situation. I also say people are dramatic about complaining about customer service but this is worst experience I have ever had in my life, this place deserves to be on Sheffield star due to bad customer service. I don't understand if you clearly don't like your job leave. I have read the reviews on google and trustpillot and there is similarities in peoples reviews such as the customer service. You give have ruined my weekend and my family's birthday. Also, the burgers came out me and nephew asked for different ones I asked for one with no tomato and he wanted his plain when the server which one is which he said I DONT KNOW.

Nice food Nice staff when problem arose chef went berserk to young lady only asking desert be changed to take away as wrong one brought she was very aggressive and made sensitive young lady very emotional she was part of large party as expected she didn't like it back when confronted back party left did not have dessert as young lady still emotional even though we all paid we have eaten there many times and my son and is business partners have eaten many times never once any problem before always Nice staff you always look after your customers but one for one staff member it spoiled the night (never again) again sorry to all the other staff

Never been to a pub restaurant like this went for daughters n grandaughters birthday how the staff talk to u is disgusting never never have I known this n been to a lot of restaurants disgusting u get something wrong own up to it what started as a good nite was spoiled thanks alot sportsman

A bit of a wait but the food was excellent

Lovely clean pub, food was really nice and the staff are very friendly. Our dogs were welcomed and allowed anywhere in the building.

We had such a lovely time here the food was amazing and the service 10/10 Liam Tomlinson was our server and what an absolute star he was, Nothing was too much him and the rest of the staff thank you for a great night!

Sharon & Morgan are fantastic great family pub excellent food every time would highly recommend been going to the sportsman over 10 years

Was in Mother’s Day had a lovely Meal and the service was outstanding. Our waitress was a Lady named Sharon who couldn’t do enough for us. Definitely be back.

The food was cold and quite literally disgusting. The one older lady server was amazing and lovely however the other staff members had relatively questionable customer service. We was waiting for our food for over an hour as they were understaffed to the point they couldn’t do table service.

Roast chicken was deep fried! Roast gammon was dry! Roast Potatoes had been sat under heat lamp far too long and inedible! Yorkshire Pud not cooked and appeared warmed up under heat lamp! Veg were undercooked! Peas were good! Gravy was salty brown liquid! Not sure if this was a bad day for the chef but they need to get a grip - deep fried chicken......really? wish I complained at time but family told me to keep quiet however the amount of uneaten food sent back should have raised a question. I'm sure some food must be good as there are some good reviews - but we will not be returning to check. staff were nice by the way.

Good atmosphere and good food, as usual.

I am always happy to sit by the fire, even though there are no logs! The dining area is spacious and relaxed allowing you to change tables if you need to.

Booked a party of 7 , birthdsy occasion , staff lovely but food not so . Menu stated tomato and basil soup , ordered 2 then told after its was carrot, main course 3 people ordered not available , all minor but the food received was basic , the chips were not edible , such a shame for such a wonderful pub , we will not return unfortunately , get some home cooked grub on the menu and not terrible frozen chips , mushrooms and prawns

It was lovely to enter a warm inviting pub. Such a lovely atmosphere the food was amazing and hot 🔥. Bar staff were very friendly. Will definitely visit again .

Bit of a nightmare, they cannot handle a full pub. Lunch with 2 small children. Arrived at 13.30 ordered via the app 13.40. 14.20 no drinks had arrived asked a member of staff was told they would bring them. 14.35 went to the bar and got my drinks as we were quite thirsty after waiting an hour. Kids at this point had, had enough and were hungry. We were told ours was just been plated. 15.05 food arrived. 1hour 25 after ordering. The food was awful, inedible. The vegetables weren't cooked, the roast veg tasted like vinegar, frozen Roasties tasted weird as oil was obviously over used. The meat, yorkie and cauliflower cheese were the only thing edible. Then had to ask for dessert after waiting 25 minutes for someone to pass. 2.5 hours later we finally left! With kids who barely ate anything and climbing the walls. £30.46 Were were refunded £9.50. The staff couldn't cope, there weren't enough of them obviously, management need to sort it out!

Been here a few times, I've never been disappointed and always enjoyed whatever food I've had here. Great looking pub, spacious, staff are always friendly, decent car park, clean toilets, reasonable prices. Overall you can't go wrong. It's good value.

Family trip out. Service was excellent. All the staff were very welcoming and lovely to our children and any neighbouring dogs. We really enjoyed our visit. Thanks very much.

Food Always comes out piping hot and full of flavour. Will always stop by if im in the area. Great range of drinks too. Lewis always provides top notch welcoming service too. Makes the visit a delight.

Food not great and it used to be really good, service was ok, but had to swap a drink at the bar as they brought the wrong one when ordering via phone, and atmosphere wasn't great as loads of tables reserved but no one sat at them for the duration we were there so the pub looked busy as you couldn't get a table as they were all reserved

Lovely festive meal, very reasonably priced for a 3 course dinner. Couldn't be more accommodating and allowed us to book last min with a pre order that morning. Lovely owner/manager. Cosy decor.

We had Christmas Day lunch for 5 people. The staff were amazing, so friendly. The service was superb, timely and efficient. Food hot and delicious. It felt like a proper home cooked Christmas lunch. We loved it.

Enjoyed an end of year get together with friends. We had a great time.

40 years ago this was my local pub so visiting Sheffield just had to go back didn't l. Needless to say it had changed considerably but the John Smiths tasted the same. Had to wait too long for average food & the room wasn't too warm either. Left feeling rather disappointed.

The pub was cold, the radiators were cold 🥶. The food was good and the staff very friendly and a varie menu, but we were cold, despite the fact we were wearing jumpers. Won't be rushing back.

Sportsman has been our local for over 35 years, I must congratulate the management and staff there, the atmosphere and warm welcome is excellent. Morgan, Sharon, Tom and team go above and beyond for their clients. It is a dog friendly pub, outstanding service. Well done.

Went in with family for a Sunday dinner. Food was beautiful and the management and staff were really helpful and friendly . Kept coming over to see if we were ok and needed anything else . Clean pub and friendly atmosphere will definitely be going again to try the new menu

This bar is not open when they say they are going to be. Their advertised opening times cannot be relied on! We came on a Saturday and their website says they are open until midnight. We arrived at 23:00 and were told by a young man with messy hair that they were in fact closed! If you are too lazy to serve customers, don't advertise yourselves as being open! This is my local bar but I won't be back because I can't abide laziness. Sort your staff out and make sure they turn up for work looking presentable!

Popped up after getting a 40% off voucher, was well worth it, lovely pub, staff were absolutely great, food was lovely, definitely worth a visit, we'll certainly be back.

Okay for a pint and staff are friendly, just avoid the food. Never had a good meal here, there is always something prepared awfully. Especially avoid the Mixed Gristle (Grill) - just a plate of chewy grey meat.

Food could be a lot better, but okay other than that.

This is the nearest pub to where I live but don't use it very often. Decided to give it another go, only to be disappointed...again. Ordered same 2 drinks three times.....with three different prices !! How hard can it be, there are buttons to press on the till, staff don't even have to add up. I questioned the most expensive and was told the other two prices must have been a mistake. On checking the menu I don't think any of the three prices were correct actually. Staff were miserable, not a smile or a word from any of them, they started clearing away at 10pm (this was a Saturday night) and obviously wanted to shut up and get off home as quick as possible. Staff training desperatelyneeded

Had Sunday dinner, not especially busy but waited 30 min for 2 roast dinners which were both only just warm enough to be eaten. Food was OK and pretty good value. We had also ordered 1 sweet which again took almost 30 min to come. Lot of people complaining that although it was only 2.30pm the pub had run out of beef. Will not be returning..

Surprisingly busy pub restaurant. Similar to many others, perhaps a bit better.

Very good social atmosphere, excellent staff and a good range of real ales and chilled lager beers. Decor is now a bit tired but very clean and well furnished with Chesterfield suits etc. Good outside seating and good dining area inside. Dog friendly and loads of space. Ample parking space. Excellent customer service from staff. Food is average but ok. All in all in good meeting pub with great access down into Rivelin or up to Lodgemoor. Good pub.

We have been going here for many years but this has to be thr worst meal yet. The Haddock was overcooked, hard batter and dry. My so called Steak which I unfortunately doubled up on was full of grizzle and well overcooked. They were far too busy to even see a member of staff, not asked how our meal was so we just paid and left. It might have been 40% off the mains, it needed to be 100%

Great welcome, fabulous steak, gorgeous bangers and mash with a lake of gravy. Timothy Taylor's Landlord in great fettle and reduced by a quid, because it's Monday! My wife loved the house Chardonnay. Thank you everyone, we'll be back soon.

Excellent pub, perfect for calling in after a walk in the Peaks. Good selection of beers, open fires and dog friendly. The food is great too. We had some chicken wings with hot sauce and sharing nachos... Both were fantastic, the wings were some of the best I've ever had. The bar staff are lovely to top it off. Highly recommended! Sept 2023 edit. Still a great pub and the chicken wings are still excellent.

Came with my son and partner for lunch where I had the BLT which was delicious, my partner had the crispy chicken ciabatta and said it was perfection. My son ate from the kids menu for £1 and it must have been nice because it didn’t touch the sides! He wolfed it down and finished off with a brownie Sundae. Staff are wonderful and attentive, Hannah made sure our experience was top-top!

Oh dear,we were so disappointed with our visit this week to The Sportsman. I had booked a table for 6pm and we had to wait almost an hour for our food to arrive.During the wait my daughter went for drinks,2 of the beers were off and a third looked like it came from the bottom of the barrel. When our food arrived the waitress apologised and said they were short staffed, 3 of our meals were passable but my husband's sirloin steak was 40% fat,gristle and tubes. He should have sent it back but we'd waited long enough already so decided to pay the bill and go,we'd been there long enough!
