Blue Monk in Bedford

I love this place - been going with family and friends for years. The food is always excellent, the atmosphere is great, the staff are welcoming and attentive. Had a great time visiting last night, and our waiter Marbs couldn’t have been better. 10/10.

This place must be the best place to eat in Bedford. The atmosphere first class. Staff first class. Food out of this world. Lovely decor. A sahme nobody mentioned this llace to me before. Will be back

Probably, The Best Food In Bedford. We’ve been using The Blue Monk for last few years, apart from very busy times and food delayed - we have NEVER had bad service or bad food. The owner/manager really cares about the reputation and high standards of his establishment - please don’t let the low hygiene rating given, recently. Trust me and the many 1000’s of regular local customers - this is truly a fine restaurant.

I would have given no stars as our experience was truly dreadful. We booked in advance, were seated and order taken promptly then the staff disappeared. After around 45 minutes, no food, we managed to ask a member of staff if we were being fed. They claimed we had just arrived, then apologised saying the order had been "mislaid". Claimed the food would be with us in 10 minutes. 10 minutes later we still had no food, said we were leaving again told food would be ready in 10 minutes. Shame as our last experience was fantastic.

We have dined here on previous occasions and are aware it can get very busy , as we had decided to treat some friends we had told about the great food here , my wife booked well in advance , asked for a specific table and was promised it would be no problem. On the evening we arrived we were left disappointed as they hadn’t reserved the table we requested as agreed , there was some disarray until they located another table which was suitable . Once seated the service was greatly improved, the timing between our starters , mains and drinks orders were well paced and we didn’t feel in anyway rushed unlike some other venues which seemed to succumbed to canteen culture which spoils the dining experience. We and our friends enjoyed our meals and complimented the staff on this , they also apologised for the error with the table reservation as we were leaving .

Very friendly and welcoming with excellent menu choices and great food. Bedford was very busy and we didn't have a reservation but that was no problem. We will definitely be back.

We have visited this establishment on previous occasions , this time was birthday treat from my wife . Food wise it was very good starters , a lamb and prawn On Pury she was after a butter chicken but as they do not do this here they recommend one of their equivalents, on having a taste I’d say it is a better flavour . I opted for Chui Chilli , not as hot as I thought it would be but again tasted very good . Portions on all of our dishes again good and the only reason for holding off awarding 5 stars is due to the service . One of our starters was wrong when they placed them on the table meaning my wife had to wait until they replaced hers with the correct one , not great when you are supposed to be dining together . We’d asked our waiter if we could have 10-15 mins until they served our mains , he was fine but then a colleague came over to serve another table then announced our food would be ready in minute . On explaining we’d asked to wait he may a well have also rolled his eyes as he clearly wasn’t as receptive as our first waiter . Our food came out about 10 mins after this , we then had to ask for s spoon for the rice and they seemed rather rushed and not as focused as you’d expect . We were never told we only had a certain amount of time but it felt like they were on the clock which is not conducive to the dining experience and we never had this on our last visit . This seems to becoming a more prevalent mindset with certain establishments and its certainly something we will take into consideration as to where we decide to spend our money when looking to choose where we eat out in future.

My wife and I went to this Restaurant We both highly enjoyed the food we ordered- absolutely excellent. The service also impressed us- attentive and pleasant. We will go again to this Restaurant for sure

Shockingly bad service. Well this USED to be my local I live 200m away. Been there plenty of times in the last few years with friends and work colleagues. I make use of the 20 per cent Tuesday offer on just eat, places need loyal customers during the hard months after Christmas. We'll placed my order nothing phoned them up and told me to re order but they took themselves off just eat. Phoned up again and he said he didn't have a driver I told him I live opposite him literally. He wouldn't match the just eat offer and just hung up. So to the owner thank your manager for losing you buisness. Deshi spice or Indyia, three rooms try them instead. Shame they did do nice food

My work takes me around the country and I’m a regular curry eater for over 40 years wherever I go. Working for 10 days in Bedford recently I dined at the Blue Monk for 8 of those days. This restaurant is without doubt the best and most consistent place I’ve ever been to, all the food I had was stunning and reasonably priced. A real gem, sorry I live in Kent or I’d be there again and again.

A rather somber exterior hides a classy and delightful Indian/Nepalese restaurant with first class food and friendly service. Highly recommend it.

I met my neighbour on the way into our apartment and he was carrying a takeaway. I asked what he had and he went on to say that it was a curry from the Blue Monk on the High Street in Bedford. Well I have lived in Bedford for six years passed this restaurant hundreds of times. So based on the neighbours recommendation who said they wouldnt eat from anywhere else I gave it a go. Well I'm really glad I did. I have lived in London and ate at all the top restaurants, visited Birmingham and tried what they had to offer. Well the service was great staff friendly, there was a great vibe and friendly banter. Good value, the taste was something that stands out. There was just something extra in the food that set it above the average curries. This is now one of the top threecurry restaurants for me which is saying something and literally 500m from home. So the next challenge is to work my way through the menu and see if I can find my new favourite curry. So give it a go well worth it. Ps 2 hours free parking on a Saturday and free all day Sunday in the council car parks 2 mins walk away.

You n a sea of exceptionally bland food joints, Blue Monk stood out for its very flavourful and subtle signature dishes at astonishingly affordable prices (which they do need to hike…). The spectrum of heat choices from ultra mild to searing heat requests was deftly handled by the kind Riban, serving us quickly with crackling papads. The Naga chilli with veg for a vegan me was outstanding and polished off, so did the tandoor Makhan dishes . Don’t forget to ask for the special “hot sauce”, which I call the Naz Hot Sauce deftly packed by Naz so I could use it over the next couple of days of my stay at Bedford. One thing glaringly missing: drinks menu is not creative for non alcoholic options, South Asian desserts missing.
