I dined here with my friends for a meal, and the service was excellent! The manager, waitresses as well as other staff were very friendly. The music and vibe was really delightful, very relaxing. I have been to many Indian restaurants and might I say Alamin Tandori was by far my favourite. The food was really flavourful. It was finger-licking good! As well as the desserts. The prices are very reasonable as well! I highly recommend this restaurant!

found this retaurant by accident while away working in bedford for a few days and all i can say is wow, the restaurant itself isnt all that great from outside and to be honest could do with a lick of paint, inside again the decor could do with a freshen up but having said that its all about the food, service and value for money and all 3 were for me 10/10 best prawn dupioza ive ever had and my partners chicken was so moist he loved it and hes very very fussy. Sam the waitress was very knoweladgeble about the menu, was quietly in the background and not constantly hovering like some other restaurants, polite and friendly. If im ever in the area again will definetly call in again. xx

I came here for the first time about a year ago and since then have celebrated a few birthdays at the restaurant. Really friendly owner, always makes you feel welcome. Really like the atmosphere as not overly crowded. Nice food, really like their king prawn madras. Reasonable price - would defo recommend if looking for a nice quiet curry out.

The restaurant coped very well with our large group of customers - staff were cheerful and attentive. Food was very good with some dishes that I'd never seen before: chot potti (spicy chickpea soup) made a welcome addition to the starters menu and was very tasty indeed.

I went here with a large party booking. We was welcomed at first by some lovely staff members who greeted us and showed us to our table. We ordered our food and it was very quick service. It was very busy at the Time and all tables were filled up. Our starters came out to us and the food was amazing. It was the best Indian food I have tasted. Again for the main dishes and other dishes in our party was very good food. The staff were very attentive to our table and all the others within the restaurant.

I made an order on their own website, and received a confirmation email confirming it would arrive within 1 hour. 1 and a half hours later...we decide to call to politely ask if it’s almost here as we are starving. The person on the line rudely tells me we haven’t made an order. After 2 minutes of shouting between staff he says “oh yes I can see your order, we haven’t done it. We’ll start now and it’ll be an hour”. No apology. No explanation. I am extremely angry and say I expect a discount for this massive error. The staff member says no and hangs up on me. I called back and asked to speak to the manager, and get the same treatment. No apology, just a brusque “we didn’t see the order, it’ll be there in 1 hour and you’ll pay full price”. Well, we looked elsewhere and found Radhuni restaurant would deliver in 45 minutes. We placed an order and it arrived in 30! I cancelled the Alamin order, which they suddenly seemed to care about.... Radhuni was really fantastic. 5 stars

Fairly good curry though portion a bit small, definitely short on curry sauce. Ended up with 1/4 a plate of dry rice. Would be a 4 if more sauce had been on offer.

You can't question their food, but then again there's a lot of competition in tavistock street. What we look for in a curry house more than anything is a warming atmosphere, something that alamin doesn't offer. 3 times now we've walked in and been greeted by what I assume is the owner. He seems to be the only one working here most nights and to be honest puts a dampner on the evening from the get go. He pushes alcohol on the 4 of us, despite the fact that none of us drink, and tries to get us to order more poppadoms than we want. When we put him straight and order soft drinks with 1 poppadom each he seems to go off in a huff. When it comes to the food order it takes him about 5 minutes to get it right after all the mishearing and questions. The food itself is fine, certainly can't complain about that which is probably why we've been back 3 times, but the overall service is extremely uncomfortable. I'd recommend the naganzi if you could be bothered with the confrontation. At the end of the meal we were presented with a large book where we were told to write a review with him even watching us. There's probably a reason why there's never any customers in here. I'll stick to deshi spice or Indian summer where the staff can't do enough for you, don't get in a strop when you want a Coke and serve food just as good if not better. We spend 70-80 quid in curry houses so it's not as if we just go for the cheapest things. I'll be avoiding this place from now on, or maybe just ordering a takeaway from it instead.

I came here with my Husband last Friday night as we were craving a good curry and wanted to try and new curry house in Bedford. The waiter was extremely friendly and enthusiastic whilst giving us our personal space to chat and eat unlike other waiters in other restaurants in this town. We wasn't sure what to have, so he told us to trust him and he brought out the Chicken Rezala curry which was mind blowing. The first bite just heavenly, the flavour and meat combination was spectacular. 5 stars to this lovely little restaurant.

I am a big fan of the Garlic Chilli Chicken so I wanted my son to try it, so I asked the waiter if he could ask the chef to tame the heat used but maintain the flavour and they were happy to do it! We used to go to Asia Lounge a lot because we loved some of their chefs specials. When we heard that the same owners recently took over this restaurant we finally made time to give it a try. A small well lit, cosy and warm restaurant. Remember it as Sonali2 back in the 80s. Wasn’t disappointed with the food or the service. Excellent well spiced and seasoned curries. No need to add any salt and pepper, a curry as it should be. Garlic naan perfectly crisp yet fluffy and pungent. Service was not obtrusive but there when you needed it. One of the better restaurants in Tavistock Street. Won’t hesitate to return and will give them a try for a takeaway too.

Stupidly, being loyal to this restaurant despite many competitors offering Indian cuisine we decided to place our order at the alamin Bedford. We have been here many times before so knew what we wanted and phoned it through without having looked at the menu. The chap took my order over the phone and then repeated back to me to check my order. I asked him "does the Tikka main come with a side salad and mint dip as it had before" - he confirmed that yes this was the case . We waited for the order to arrive. An hour later and very hungry the take away arrived for which I paid for - I then proceeded to dish up the food - there was no side salad and no dip and the food was barely warm. I rang the restaurant to explain and was told that although this had been the case in the past they now had a new menu which does not include the salad or dip with the tikka mains . I explained that I had not viewed the menu as rang my order through over the phone and why had the staff member who took my order confirmed that I would be receiving the salad and dip???? Very confusing that the staff that work there, supposedly advising customers were not aware of this NEW RULE. Due to their error they agreed to bring out the salad & dip free of charge - however 5 mins later we had another call from Alamin to explain that they were not going to bring the salad & dip but instead would maybe honour a small discount the next time I eat with them !!!!!! Do you honestly think I would ever give you any further business after this treatment and lack of accountability by your staff and management - I would rather starve than ever put further business your way - PLEASE FUTURE CUSTOMERS BEWARE - also be mindful that there are many other Indian eateries a stones throw away from the ALAMIN. vote with your feet as I will be doing.

How many restaurants have you been to when you feel like an inconvenience? False welcome, indifferent service, so-so food and a feeling that the restaurant wants you out asap so the table can be re-sold. Restaurants ultimately survive on repeat business and The Alamin has had mine since it opened (25 years ago?). It's very simple: Get to know your customers by name, give good but not fawning service, make certain the food is as good as the menu makes it sound and for goodness sake do it all with a smile! The Alamin has survived when other restaurants have come and gone. That speaks volumes for the sort of place it has become and hence the loyalty of its customer base. If you have never been go and try The Alamin Experience. Gul and his splendid team won't let you down.

Almost every other door along Tavistock Street opens onto a restaurant, takeaway, cafe or pub. Italian, Lebanese, South Indian, modern Indian, traditional Indian / Asian, a myriad of choice. The Alamin on an autumnal Tuesday evening was like all the others, very quiet but a terrific warm welcome by the Bangladeshi owner was completely genuine and we were soon underway with the usual Kingfisher and Cobra beers. The menu is pretty much standard and nothing wrong with that but Alamin has some of it's own specialities. We lit on a few rare things. Softshell crab. Sadly it or they had scuttled off so we had the giant prawn equivalent plus slices of spiced duck breasts.Time for more beer. And then along came Machlee Bartha, gorgeous thick slices of sweet Bangladeshi river fish cooked in a thick, lightly spiced sauce. Superb and a real highlight. Goan lamb was slices of fillet, again, nicely cooked and presented., okra, spinach with potatoes side dishes and a couple of naans and we'd had a really good dinner, it didn't cost a fortune and we'll be back with a mission to get our Bangladeshi friend interested in cricket ! He must be one of the few with no interest in the great game at a time when they almost beat England in a test match. Our advice? Go with the specials and suggestions.

But if you are looking for a genuinely courteous welcome, staff willing to engage in friendly conversation, excellent food and value for money then you are in the right place. We estimate we've eaten in nearly all of Bedford's curry restaurants and this is our favourite. Newly redecorated and a revamped menu makes it our number one choice and the benchmark with which to judge others. I've eaten in more expensive and opulent restaurants but I have rarely come away believing that my custom was genuinely appreciated. Do yourself a favour: go and meet Gul and his staff, enjoy great food and a friendly atmosphere. You won't be disappointed.

The Alamin is always the restaurant we go back to, again and again. The refurbishment has smartened the decor up but the welcome is always as warm as ever! The food really is consistently excellent. Portions are of a good size and prices good value. (3 of us ate today, with drinks £46). The garlic nan is the best we have ever had; both meat and veggie dishes are very good with the right balance of spice and flavour. We have eaten curry in lots of places in the uk and this still ranks as one of the best. Don't pass this one by - you will be pleased you tried this one out!

We used to come to the Alamin a few years ago and always commented on how traditional it looked compared to all the other contemporary restaurants that were popping up everywhere on Tavistock street Bedford. This time we were amazed that the place had undergone a complete refurb! from top to bottom the place was 10x better looking and more "open" than before. The same old face greeted us and showed us to our window table the one we used to sit at many years ago.Drinks and papadoms were ordered and went down well, for starters we has a babori mix for both myself and my partner to share, this consisted of prawns, samosas bhajis' etc a platter, this was sumptuous and an excellent start to the evening. The mains were again as tasty as the starter if not better my wife had a Chicken Korma and I had a Dansak which was one of the best in a long time.we had pilau rice and a garlic naan too which again were faultless.the waiter that took our order and served us all evening was attentive and polite, they were quite busy (it was a Friday( but our food arrived hot and in good time.Overall a great experience and we shall be returning on our next trip to Bedford.I recommend this place as it has been running many years and seems to have kept all its charm even after the refurb!

Alamin has been going for many years now and we had tried it before, but it was never one of our chosen places to eat. However another restaurant owned by the same people had been a firm favourite and we were gutted when it closed down a while ago. So imagine our excitement when we had an email from the Alamin, announcing that some of the dishes from the previous restaurant were now on the menu in the Alamin. We were over the moon and vowed to visit, which we did. Sorely disappointed - very sorry to say this as, had the expectations been met and the dishes been the same, we would have probably made this our new Indian restaurant of choice. What we found was disorganised staff with very poor service. We had expected the same precision and attention to detail but the waiter was casual, to the point of unprofessional and apathetic. Eventually we were given some menus and sure enough saw some of our old favourites on there, instantly deciding to order our much loved and much missed favourites. What came out was nothing like what we'd been used to. I had ordered garlic mushrooms to start and what came out to be plonked in front of me with no care for presentation or professionalism was a plate of brown, slimy slop. I gave my feedback after my barely touched plate was collected - as an example of expectations. My feedback wasn't received particularly well. To me, garlic mushrooms should be either breaded and served with garlic dip or (how I would expect in an Indian restaurant) fried fairly dry with lots and lots of sliced garlic and seasoning, served perhaps with a small garnish and maybe some raita..? No, what I got was rubbery, undercooked mushrooms and this revolting brown sludgy slop that didn't even taste like garlic. Just slopped on a plate, no garnish, no presentation, no flavour. It was awful. My partner ordered Chicken Chat which again came just slopped on a plate, no bread, no salad, just a plate of unappetising sludge. No effort at all. The main course was just as bad - an old favourite of mine was Murgh Haryali - the one I had here bore no resemblance in appearance or flavour to what I had loved so much. My partner's meal was as disappointing. Dessert menu was bog-standard, the same as you'd find in any Indian restaurant with the basic pre-prepared kulfi, ice cream etc. We were hoping to see some of the old favourites like the saffron poached pear, gajor ka halwa or delicious sorbets. We didn't bother with dessert either. My partner preferred that I didn't give any further feedback to the waiter, it clearly wasn't well received. I'm not even sure if it was ever passed on, this visit was a few weeks ago now so I'd hope it was and I'd hope it was taken on board.Considering the relationship between the two places we had expected some similarities but our expectations were obviously way off the mark. We left both having said the same thing, we won't bother to go back. Gul, it's such a shame that this experience was so poor, we have missed your lovely menu and would have happily brought our custom back to you. A restaurant is only as good as its chef and service is only as good as the front line staff. I guess these aren't the same as we'd been used to. We know it can be done and you've done it so well previously. With the vast array of Indian restaurants within a stones-throw of the Alamin, I'd recommend a little more training and guidance to relevant staff to bring them up to standard. If you ever open up another like the old favourite we had, we will be there in a heartbeat but you'd have to do some serious work to get us back in the Alamin.

There is plenty of free parking very close to the restaurant with a multi story car park nearby as well. The restaurant is not very large but it was fine with the tables not too close together. We shared a babori mix for starters and that was all very good apart from the samosa being rather tough. The chicken Shathkora was a very unusual dish which I really enjoyed although my colleague thought it was slightly too citrus flavoured. The Lamb Khorai was great and had plenty of flavour. The nan bread was great being light with a wonderful crispy texture in places. The bhindi bhajee and sag aloo were good but could perhaps have done with more spices. An enjoyable meal and we shall definitely return.

Used to eat here often, but became bored with same brown sauces and too much oil.Revisited twice in recent months (don't eat out very often). We were all impressed with each dish: no floating oil, fresh okra, heightened flavours in every curry ordered, each dish was quite distinct from the other, whether it was a main meat or vegetable side. The breads here have got to be best in Bedford.I'm glad the kitchen is paying good attention to getting the flavours right, it's tough and competitive on Tavistock Street. Definitely recommended.

This is our favourite Indian restaurant in Bedford. It has dishes with a range of flavour profile from a hot and sour Vegetable Dhansak to a refreshing Bhindi bhaji. What's great is you can ask anything to be cooked lower fat and still get great tasting food.

Lovely food and such a warm welcome at this fab restaurant. I wanted a dish that was no longer on the menu and they were good enough to make it for me. Tandoori lamb chops are the most tender and tastiest that I've had any where and my husband had an amazing chicken dansak. They have recently had a re-furb and the restaurant is comfortable and stylish. Thank you we will be back

Having not been here for a while, we thought we would give it another chance. We walked in to see obvious changes. The interior had been totally renovated making the space a lot more welcoming. Loved the Taj Mahal picture on the wall, but not sure what was going on with the strange gold lame everywhere - very bizarre. Staff were very friendly and polite but the food was a great disappointment. Family of dodgy tummies the next day. In light of this, decided to look up their Food Hygiene rating. November 2015 stated a rating of 1. Am thinking that rather than spruce up the restaurant, they would have been better off spending the money and effort in the kitchens instead.

Our family has been using Alamin for over 18 years, over that time we have enjoyed consistently good food and service. There are numerous curry restaurants very close by, so the fact that Alamin has stood the test of time must speak volumes. This is what I would consider a traditional Indian restaurant. However, if you desire something not on the menu just ask for it. Decor was a little tired, but now it has been refurbished, and is very pleasent.

I always try to go to Alamin when I am heading for a curry. They are always so delicious, not too oily spice the food the way you like it. I like a spicy curry and the naga pickle curry they do is just perfect level of spice and flavour for me. Staff always happy to be of service and the atmosphere is cosy.

I've had a few meals at Alamin recently & enjoyed them all. I like the small restaurant, it's quaint with a nice atmosphere. The staff are attentive & friendly & the food is fresh. Last time I tried the chicken green masala & it was delicious. I couldn't eat it all so they happily boxed it up for me to take home.

Visited on Sunday with sister and as we walked in we felt so relaxed and comfortable, it has a comfy atmosphere, if u like. I ordered lamb chops starter which was ok but then a handsome tall waiter recommended me a dish called "som som" which I had in lamb tikka, he based his recommendation on my taste. Oh my god, it was the best curry I ever had the explosion of flavours that came with the first bite it was awesome! Presuming the chef has some serious talent! We enjoyed our evening and will be back

1st visit to Indian summer the decor is clean fresh, nice dining booths and dining tables. The staff all smiles and friendly greeting even a bit of banter on the football game tomorrow. Drinks arrived pretty quick and we ordered poppadoms whilst deciding what to order for the mains. Well I must say the food was excellent everyone commented on how nice the food was as we all ordered differently from each other. If I visit Bedford again I will dine at Indian summer for sure.
