Blue Anchor in Rother

This is an update based on a more recent visit. I phoned ahead to save time and asked for longer cooking time until both batter and chips were golden brown since often chippies serve chips when they're still pale and soggy. The result was wonderful crisp and golden food! Our large cod, shared by my old parents, was lemony, indicating freshness. My haddock was more flavoursome, though drier. The curry sauce seemed home made. It wasn't sweet, but was slightly spicy hot. They have free parking in parking bays round the corner opposite the fire station. People drive in from Hastings and Westfield for this chippy.

Great fish shop. Have been using the Blue Anchor a few years now and I believe the cod and chips are getting better. Last visit last week and cod and chips were lovely. Best in Bexhill.

Used to be the best chippy in Bexhill but not anymore. First issue is that they have an attitude problem and at times are downright rude. Lately also the food has gone downhill. I phoned up my order in advance last night, was told half an hour until ready but I turned up 20 mins later incase it was done. Took them 5 minutes to even acknowledge that I was there standing at the till. Then he told me my fish was still cooking so I had to wait. 10 minutes later he gave me the same fish and sausages that had been sat out since before I turned up. So obviously it was cold and gross. Used to use here regularly but we'll be finding a new chippy.

WOW, Absolutely THE Best Fish and chips takeaway in Bexhill-on-Sea! Light crispy batter- not fatty like others. Chips are perfect too! Another totally delicious absolutely satisfying fish&chips. Large portions, perfect flavour. Thank you Blue Anchor.

Chips are good but waited 15 minutes for them. Premises need a deep clean

This is a very good chip shop. Fish freshly cook wile you wait, plus the chips are not oily.

Still going there and the 3 wise men are smiling more which is good 👍😀. Increase my star rating to 4 from a 3. Review six months ago, below, fish and chips , very food good . Cooked fresh to order excellent. Easy parking to the side opposite fire station. Shop needs a good clean. Food hygiene standard concerning. Customer Service could be lot better. Sometime I question why I go there because there customers service is a one / two star 🌟 at best. Be going sometime and nothing changes so only 3 star overall.

Attitude surly. Asked if ok to park in their car park was told rather snappily only if you’re buying from us. Reminded to take away my rubbish. Fish ok chips poor. Unpleasant attitude spoilt my meal

Dont be put off by appearances...as newcomers to the area, over the last 2 years we have tried every fish n chip shop AND THESE ARE AMAZING!! Everything is cooked fresh to order (hate a battered sausage that's sat there for hours!) the cod is thick and white, the chips are the best in town and they are £7 cheaper for the same order in other well known chippies in the area!

Drove down from London and in search for fish and chips stumbled across this chippy and we were not disappointed. Fantastic chips and scampi. A real surprise.

WOW! Excellent Cod and Chips, Haddock and chips ,crispy and tasty batter from the Blue Anchor, never tried them before. Was in Bexhill-on-Sea on a day trip and and wanted to watch the sunset while having fish and chips, wasn't disappointed, great fish and chips and beautiful sunset. Dedicated parking on the side street is a real bonus. Friendly and helpful staff, very clean .

Loved it the fish and chips were the best we’ve ever had, steak and kidney pie perfect and sausages and savaloy again perfect, curry sauce and onion rings best we’ve ever had. 2 guys serving were also so polite definitely 5 star.

Been living in Bexhill a couple of months one of my friends recommend the place and the best cod and chips I had so far well deserved 5 starts.

All round great place for great tasting fish, chips, battered sausage, curry sauce, chilled soft drinks....in fact everything you expect to find in a good chippy and then there's the service, prompt, always with a smile and friendly word. Customer parking around the corner on Beeching rd ( sign marked)

We lived in Bexhill-on-Sea 11 years, bought Cod and Chips, Haddock and chips etc from all the fish and chip shops we knew of. Some good others not so. Away from Bexhill-on-Sea for 6 years and having recently returned, today tried Blue Anchor. Won't be going back to any other fish and chip shops. Dedicated parking on the side street is a real bonus.

Great portions at great prices!

Always excellent fish and chips, decent sized, chunky pieces, crispy batter and plenty of chips. Added bonus is that it's very easy to park as there is dedicated parking to the side of the shop.

I will not use them again, my food wasn't cooked propley and staff are unclean. I saw staff picking the noses and not washing there hands. another time my daughter was treated badly. Never use again

I love this chippie but I have got to say that with my last couple of visits I have been disappointed with the quality of the chips. I don't know if they have changed the type of potatoes they are using or maybe the frying oil but I hope they get back to their old standards soon as they are the best chip shop in town! UPDATE 2021: This is still the best chippy in Bexhill. The chips are amazing and the management are very friendly. You won't be disappointed!

The Blue Anchor has parking space down the side of the shop which is brilliant as London Rd can get busy and there is no parking directly outside the entrance. The food here is lovely all cooked fresh when you order and unlike some other places there fish is not dripping with fat, justnice and crispy. They serve there food in a cardboard box and there sizes are generous. They have a very substantial menu so can cater for different tastes. They are happy to take a phone order and always ask when you would like to collect. The people themselves are very welcoming, polite and friendly. You always feel like a valued customer. I would totally recommend this business having tried a few chip shops I and my family don't go anywhere else.

I've had fish and chips from here a few times now and have recommended to some of my friends/clients and I must say I'm always VERY impressed! Lovely portion sizes and the fish is always so beautiful and white! If you like a lovely bit of fish and chips for a reasonable price this is the place to go! Highly recommend!

Good food and quick service, only issue was charged an extra £3.10 from the advertised prices as it seems they have not updated their price board and need to do so, will be checking when I next go in if the same situation happens as sure just an oversight this time ?!

Sorry Google but I was only sitting outside this place in a traffic queue. However I'm happy to give it a 4⭐ as it looked very clean inside and the staff were happy. (I regularly get stuck here with the traffic lights just 25 metres away.😃)

Can't comment on the food because I never actually tasted it but the service I received was horrendously slow and in no chronological order. When I ordered I was told that I would have to wait a little bit longer as I was a walk in and not a telephone order (which I did undertand), I then waited for just over an hour to see people walk in, order and get their food before me. When I asked for my money back I was even short changed 20p! Hopefully the manage to sort this out so it don't happen to future customers.

Stopped off this evening on the way home and opted for large cod and small chips. Verdict: excellent in every way, hot and tasty, and so reasonably priced, it must be one of the cheapest in Bexhill! My first time, definitely not my last, highly recommended.

Had a really lovely piece of Huss from here last night. Nice to see a good quality local chippie mixing it up the town centre boys.

The staff were very rude to me. The food was undercooked ! The curry sauce was like water. I do not recommend going there ! There so overpriced compared to the one in town square. I advise people to stay away from there as it is horrible !

Decent but not the best locally, a little pricey for what you get.

They accept phone orders and are quick and efficient in their service. The portions are generous and reasonably priced. The shop is clean and has plenty of seating. There is customer car parking to the rear.

Absolutely fantastic fish and chips. Would highly recommend ( and have) to everyone. The fish was fresh and meaty, not frozen and watery. Chips are cooked to perfection and the staff are all really friendly.

Generous portions of tasty fish and chips - well drained and nice crisp batter. Unfortunately no gluten-free batter for celiacs, but chips are cooked separately so at least I could have chips.
