We enjoyed drinks in the May sunshine whilst perusing the Sunday menu before moving to our table. First courses were very good. Disappointingly, much of the wine list was not available, but what we were able to selected was good and fairly priced. The Pork Belly was most enjoyable, as was the Yorkshire Pudding, but the accompanying vegetables were overcooked and unpleasant. My wife’s Scampi was also very good but the plate, piled high with food, was somewhat off-putting. We prioritise quality more than quantity. Puddings were not sampled. Total cost for three was £130 including wine and pre lunch drinks. Service, sadly, was not the best and we departed with little incentive to rush back. We hope it improves.

The Landlord had recently been on local news saying how it was hard to make ends meet running a village pub. Couple of suggestions, perhaps do food on a Sunday evening and also greet customers when they come in instead of finishing whatever urgent clerical task required your full attention. Black Sheep beer was OK though.

Visited this establishment a couple of years ago when the food prices were reasonable and the food fantastic. Fast forward 2 years and it’s a completely different story. Sunday lunch was £11.95, now it’s £18.95. 3 course Sunday lunch is over £30. Food prices in the week have also risen considerably. Why; simple, to fund the managers (Nigel) lavish lifestyle. He’s trying to promote this place for something it’s clearly not. £7 for a pint of beer, you’re having a laugh! The guys deluded. That’s when there’s actually any beer to drink. I stayed for the pub quiz Sunday night (which was packed). and there was only one bitter and one cider on tap. All the other beers, craft beers, IPA, lagers, bottled beers were gone. Not because it had sold out, but because he hadn’t paid his suppliers. The staff were embarrassed when asked why there wasn’t any alcohol on the premises. This guy is an absolute joke. The brewery needs to remove him and put someone in charge who is capable of running a pub properly. There’s just NO excuse for having no alcohol in a pub. One of the quiz team names made me laugh on the night. They called themselves The Blacksmiths Arms Dry Place. They weren’t kidding!! The car park used to be packed, and if you hadn’t booked, you weren’t getting in. Now the car parks half empty, you can walk in and get a table straight away, that’s if he hasn’t shut up by 8.30pm. People vote with their feet and needless to say I won’t be back any time soon. Rating 1 out of 10.

Arrived 30 mins prior to our reservation time, this was not a problem and we were shown to our table. This is an excellent venue in a very quiet village setting, serving a mixture of locals and those like ourselves travelling for food. Staff and the service they provided were faultless, each course was savoured and every plate cleared. A special mention must go to the doughnut dessert, this was simply sublime. This is a venue I would highly recommend.

Visited as a group and had preordered. Despite this, the food took an hour to come out. When enquiring about the length of time it would take for the food to come, there was no apology for the long wait. One of our orders was a gluten free burger which was served between two slices of bread, despite being advertised as coming in a bun. Although the portion sizes were good, many of the dishes were bland. The staff did check on us to see if our food was ok and when one of our party expressed some concerns about her meal, they weren’t even acknowledged and the waitress just ignored her. Over priced for the quality and could do with some work on the service.

Lovely pub. Unfortunately rude staff. Not only did I witness a member of staff being very rude to an elderly gentleman who requested drinks for his table after his meal it only 9:05. She then went on to pour a quarter of my partners drink away so she could lock up at around 9:30. I have never felt more uncomfortable in a pub in my life.

Decided to take my dad for a meal for his birthday , I wish I had cooked a meal myself at home! The service was really bad, my family was waiting along time for are meals. The food was warm not hot, the roast potatoes was rock hard not forgetting the Yorkshire puddings wasn't the best ! After the meal they asked if we wanted a pudding , I didn't want to wait another 45 minutes. Another couple who was sat next to us said they won't go again! I paid £98.00 pound what a waste of money !! I didn't complain because of it being my dads birthday! I usually give a good tip , but o decided not to. Very disappointed, we had to go to the bar to order ate drinks otherwise you would be waiting forever!!!

Not impressed at all. Just recently moved to the area and decided to come here to have a birthday drink with my 18yr old and the rest of the family. Upon entering we just mentioned we wanted a drink with no food then to be told we can’t sit inside with our drinks and told we had to sit outside, where was met by numerous wasps which didn’t make the visit pleasant at all. Why we couldn’t sit inside with our drinks I do not know as the pub wasn’t that busy at all and there was clearly plenty of places for us to sit and enjoy our celebratory drinks. Not a good first impression for our new local pub.

Took my dad for a Saturday night treat, he is GF and they couldn’t do enough to make sure he was catered for. The venue, meal, staff, ambiance was nothing less than absolutely outstanding! I can see it may not be to everyone’s budget, but we thoroughly enjoyed the entire home cooked from scratch food with fresh quality ingredients. I wish I had left room for a desert, the Bounty cheesecake will be enjoyed at my next visit.

Service was a little slow and hard to get service when needed (although was very nice and forthcoming when we asked). Despite it not being busy it felt a bit understaffed in restaurant itself! Could not complain about the food quality or portion size though! All what you needed came as the meal, no need for extras or sides which was good!! Was a bit on the pricey side in our opinion (£20 for a specials board burger), would have expected a little more in terms of the whole experience for the money. When we asked about desserts our server didn’t have a menu and couldn’t really explain what they were from the board. I ended up with a dessert with custard which should really have only come with ice-cream/cream as it was described incorrectly 🙈 On the whole, I would come back again- but not in a hurry!

A nice warm welcome from the staff, although I personally thought the tables were too close together. My friend had the haddock and chips which she said was tasty (and at £23.95, so it SHOULD have been!) and my pie was also tasty. I had to wait quite a long time for my dessert of bread and butter pudding which when it arrived was the tiniest sliver of crust-end. Despite it being a dog-friendly venue, everywhere looked spotlessly clean and the waiting staff could not be faulted. However, at almost £24.00 for fish-and-chips (not to mention almost £25.00 for beef stroganoff) it will unfortunately not be on my list of 'must returns'.

We dropped in on spec in the middle of a long walk. Unfortunately, it was Sunday lunchtime and the pub was fully booked so couldn’t accommodate us for lunch - but, just wanted to say, the staff were as helpful as they could possibly have been. They were really apologetic and despite our muddy boots, wet jackets and rather dishevelled appearance they let us sit at the bar and served us hot coffee and biscuits. It’s a lovely looking pub, obviously very popular with locals, the menu looked good and the staff were really helpful!

Ate here after a walk with friends. Booked the day before for Sunday and they kindly fit us in. We parked in the car park and went for the walk returning to the pub for dinner (we asked about parking and the owners said it was fine- thanks for that!). The tables in the garden were great on a sunny day. Beer was good, the food was OK. I wouldn't go again for the food itself but for somewhere to grab a drink and a bite to eat in a nice pub garden at the end of a beautiful walk- well for that I'll be back.

We've neglected The Blacksmiths' Arms over recent years and was attracted by the extension of the EOtoHO initiative. I have to say, after this experience, and especially as we live so close by in Moortown, we'll be returning on a regular basis. First, the restaurant has mastered the Covid restrictions and we felt safe in a hygienic environment. Normally, I have great doubts about young wait staff as they're more interested in socialising than serving customers, but these four, two young men, two young women were exceptional in terms of their service. To the food, I ordered the king prawn and chilli pasta while my wife ordered the prawn cocktail starter upgraded to a main. My prawn dish was delicious, at the perfect level of spice for me, but I have to confess to food envy when my wife's plate was presented. Wow, prawns in a Marie Rose sauce, on a bed of delicious summer salad, and a large helping of warm bread on the side.We have booked again for next week as it was so good. Well done kitchen and wait staff.

We were very lucky to be given a table in the garden for Sunday lunch on a hot day, at very short notice. Service friendly and efficient. Food excellent including specials board-we had a selection of starters , all excellent. Sunday roast beef, lamb, and kebabs. All good quality and portions-most couldn't manage dessert but those who could were very happy! Lovely pub in pretty village just outside Caistor. Well worth a visit.

We booked a table for 5:30 on bank holiday Monday. Arrived on time and was seated. The pub was quite quiet on arrival, drinks brought to the table and food order taken quickly. However, it then took a long time to arrive. When the meals finally arrived, four arrived together, the fifth came out over 5 mins later. We had cutlery for 4, and couldn’t get the staffs attention to get another set. No one checked whether we had everything, or if the meal was ok. After we finished, the table was cleared and we were asked if we’d like desert. They kids were eager to have a pud, so we said yes. Waitress said she’d be back in a minute to take our order. She didn’t come back, we waited and waited but nothing. Then the manager(?) came over and asked us to leave, as we had ‘gone over our allotted time and the next diners were here for the table’. I asked how long we were given, and he stated 2 hours. He asked us to leave at 7:00, so we’d had 1:30 and in that time, the incredibly slow service had meant they’d only managed to serve a main course. I explained we arrived at 5:30 so had only had 1:30 and hadn’t had a pudding yet, to which he walked off. No apology, no nothing. A waitress came over and again I asked why we were being asked to leave when the booking was for 5:30. She didn’t know and went to ask the manager. She came back and said there was a mix up, and it was thought the booking was for 5. No apology in the slightest, and the manager who was quick to come over and throw us out, didn’t apologise or show his face. Low and behold we will not be going back to the Blacksmith Arms. We have just moved to the area, and will now find another local where we are welcome.

Lovely gastro style pub. A very generous fish finger, or gougons to be precise, sandwich with excellent home made chips and well dressed salad. The fish dinners were large and very popular with other diners on a busy Friday lunchtime. Don’t go here if you’re not hungry!

We live close by and decided to go here as a last minute plan on a Wednesday night. We usually go for Sunday lunch or a Saturday night so were pleasantly surprised to see there was a mid week lite bite special for £7.95 each. We opted for the meat sharing starter which was delicious and massive, we then ordered battered chicken goujons and sausage and mash. These were not lite bites, nor were they sub standard. We were blown away by the quality for such a cheap price and will be returning again very soon (maybe to eat what we couldn’t fit in last time!)The staff, as always, were super friendly. The fire was lit and the atmosphere warm and cosy. A great local pub with fab food.

Took my husband out in early January to celebrate his birthday - lovely pub with very relaxed atmosphere. We were the only diners in on this particular evening but did not even notice it as we had such a nice spot right by the fireplace. Food was delicious and very reasonable.

Having been out walking on xmas eve with the family and dog, we ventured into the Blacksmiths on the off chance to see if they had a table for lunch. It was our first time and we were not overly hopeful due to xmas parties/meals etc and not having booked. As soon as we walked in however, we were greeted warmly and offered a table where customer service from then on was fantastic. The food we ordered for a lunch was on most menus standard pub food, however it came out with a difference and not only looked great but was very tasty and exceedingly good value for money. Portion and flavour, superb. We would all happily return.

Cosy pub nestling in the Lincolnshire Wolds AONB busy most nights so booking advisable. Local food including very large fish, well cooked and presented by the very pleasant and attentive, mainly young staff. Highly recommended for great atmosphere food and sensibly priced wine and beers.

Came on Friday lunchtime to meet some business colleagues. The food was fantastic and the service great. Although I did feel for the lady working as she seemed to be on her own, this being said she never stopped. Constantly between the bar and taking food out. She came and asked if all was ok and offered us deserts which we declined because the portions are big and we were full up.

Kirsty is without doubt the most kindest and efficient person we have ever met, she goes beyond her role of duty to make sure your visit at Trent Port is perfect, and that’s what it exactly was, the food is superb! And it wasn’t a small measure, I have eaten in the top restaurants of the world, and this Christmas dinner was the very best, the soup was stunning, the main meal and carvery was incredible, and my apple pie and custard was the best I have ever had. I have now put Trent Port at the top of my restaurant list, and placed Kirsty as the very best I have met in service, her kindness, and friendliness is fantastic, thank you Trent Port, and thank you Kirsty from the bottom of my heart.
