As one of the few pubs locally with a large private room, we booked the Blacksmith's Arms, despite not having been for several years for a party of around 60 people. I am so glad we did - the welcome was warm (in every sense due to the underfloor heating), the service was excellent, food great, we could help ourselves to endless tea and coffee and the bar was handy too. There were tables with dining chairs and also comfy sofas and the room was really nice. In fact, just perfect for what we wanted. Thank you!

Very basic pub. Just like the old days when you went to the pub for good food and conversation with a tasty beer to quench your thirst, the Blacksmiths Arms fills the bill. I loved the friendly atmosphere provided by both staff and fellow customers. The food was excellent - especially when the decor suggests it may not be great. So thank you to the kitchen staff too ! Highly recommend this Dog friendly local to anyone enjoying a walk in the area.

We ate here on Friday night(3rd Jan) as we were staying in the Alton Towers hotel, I'm not writing this review to moan about Alton Towers but we had booked a table at one of there restaurants and when we confirmed our table, no one knew about the reservation that I had a copy of??? Thank goodness they didn't because we came off site and ventured in the Blacksmith Arms We were greeted by Heather who was so welcoming, She gave us the option where to sit so we decided to sit in the restaurant section of the pub, It was quiet but due to it being two days after new year I can guess why, Heather came over with menus and took drinks orders swiftly and made a fuss of our children, Our youngest ordered the "Make your own" pizza, What a giggle and a brilliant idea!!! All of our starters were beautiful as were our mains, I had the Blacksmith Grill and i'm still full........ Will we go back, 100% Everything we ate and drank was lovely, Heather was incredibly friendly and she even presented our son with a little birthday cake at the end of the evening Thanks again you lot, It was wicked!!!!!

These chips are the most disgusting things I've ever tasted. Greasy, under cooked and clearly using the wrong technique. It's a shame because the burgers were really nice and staff friendly.

Ate here as a couple after a long day at Alton towers. Seems to be a lovely, atmospheric pub, but unfortunately let down by the extremely slow service! Hubby and I ordered burgers, which were pleasant, but they took nearly 40 minutes! There was only one other couple in the dining area when we arrived (another couple entered and were seated just before our food arrived). The waitress, although pleasant, was on her phone in the corner for most of the time, and looked thoroughly bored. Food was ok, but arrived on a "trendy"? stainless steel dustbin lid (?!) which actually made it very difficult to use the cutlery supplied with it, as the lip of the "plate" (lid) was very high. All in all, an ok meal but we wouldn't go back, not least for the delay in the service.

Always looking for places locally to eat and did a quick google search and came across the blacksmiths arms Alton. Had a look at the menu and decided to give it a go. Could not fault the food or service at all. We were served by a boy who hadn’t been working there for long but he was very polite and efficient. There was a girl working the bar too who was equally as polite and friendly. The food was incredible. All home made and fresh and really good quality. The portions were a really good size. After having a recommendation to try this place when spending the weekend at alton towers we was hoping for some good pub grub. After wanting to try the pie all day to then find out they didn’t have any was disappointing. The garlic bread for start was delicious and wish I’d ordered it for my main aswell. Most of the group had fish and chips - the chips are very greasy, and unsure how fresh the oil is they’ve been cooked in! Not great value for money really as the £8 small plate fish and chips really was a ‘small’ plate, looked like a fish finger! The pot bread in an actual plant pot is a nice touch with the meals, however the bread does unfortunately taste like the pot! Overall, I think trying too hard to make things quirky when it could just be a really lovely local pub with some adjustments.

We visited here after a day at Alton Towers as it is very conveniently located. We were nearly the only ones in the pub, even though other local places were fully booked . The food was really awful, in fact this is the first review i have ever written. The chips tasted like they were cooked in very old oil and even the kids didn't eat them! We had a couple of burgers which a previous reviewer had praised but ours were awful and covered in a odd tasting cheese. My gammon and chips was plated with a blackened pineapple and tomato which must have been cooked on a very burnt griddle and was not nice to eat. One of our meals was baked cheese and was served in a dish with maple syrup - odd.

Visited with a friend whilst staying nearby in a B&B;, very friendly and welcoming staff! We sat down and ordered our food which was very nice! My friend had the raspberry meringue which was stunning! However . . . . the evening was ruined (and I must state this is NOT the pubs fault!) by a party, both me and my friend work with kids and at a family attraction so we are used to kids being excited and noisey etc but the party were unbelievably loud to the point I had to shout to my friend so she could hear me (she was only sat across the table), but it wasn't the kids being loud it was the adults! What we found disgusting was the behaviour of the men in the party . . . a family arrived and was seated behind us. Within minutes they left due to the party. Again a few minutes later a group of girls sat behind us, they politely requested if they could be seated elsewhere, Unfortunately there was no room. The response from the party, in particular this "gentleman" was "haha look! weve scared off more customers" they basically didn't care (wish there was a Trip advisor based at customers) unfortunately the group of girls left.

As the closest pub to where we were staying, we thought we would go to the Blacksmiths Arms, and a good move it turned out to be. A very friendly welcome and a good selection of beers made for an enjoyable evening. As we read through the menu and watched the food orders come out of the kitchen, our mouths began to water. 2 Jack Daniel burgers, I cheese burger, 1 lamb burger and a small pie of the day later and there were 5 very contented customers. All of us eating the burgers agreed that we had not had one better for a long time and the pie was also given the thumbs up and the chips were excellent. The pièce de résistance were the puddings - a heavenly end to an excellent meal. Thank you to the staff, all of whom were friendly and very helpful, making 5 visitors feel very welcome. We pre booked a table of 11. We arrived and had our order taken about 20 minutes later... Half hour later the waitress came over to tell us that burgers had run out and we could have lamb burgers instead... We agreed... The food came out a whopping 1h and 15 minutes after ordering and when it arrived we still had all the ingredients of a beef burger with a lamb patty. It was revolting and I had one bite and left it. Most of us left our food. When asked if everything was alright one of our party explained the situation only to be told by the old lady behind the bar "oh that's a shame" she proceeded to charge us full price. Will never visit again when in the area. It probably was the worse meal I've ever paid for. On the plus side, our waitress Kirsty was lovely and always stayed professional and polite even when dealing with 11 upset and hungry men. She's a credit to the place and I have worked in the restaurant industry for 8 years. I would hire her in a second!

We arrived after a long day at alton towers. We had travelled 125 miles so wanted to ensure we would have somewhere to eat. We booked a table the day before for 4 adults, two toddlers and two babies. When we arrived the table was ready with the high chairs already in place which is great often you have to drag them around places. Fast waitress service for drinks and order. We like things speedy when we have so many small children with us. The food got to us with in 20 minutes of ordering which is fine, especially because one of them was making a pizza which they loved to do. Food came very good portion sizes for everyone. Sunday dinner, sausage and mash, chicken tighs and steak sandwich for adults. Pizza and sausage and chips for children. Again good sizes. The food was very very tasty there was only little bits of food left and that's because we were full. Very attentive asking us if everything was OK and nothing seemed too much trouble. I don't often write reviews especially good ones but I felt I had to for this pub. It is very hard to find family friendly places to eat when you have 4 children under 3 we were made to feel very very welcome and I want to praise them for this as it really means a lot to us that we were not treated any less important than anyone else even though there were 4 tired but loud little children with us. We will recommend this pub to everyone we know who is going to alton towers and we will definitely be returning next year when we go back to alton towers. We were staying at Alton Towers Hotel, but wanted to give the local community some of our custom. We booked here online and had no idea what the place looked like. When we turned up, the outside didn't do it any justice, but we ventured in. The bar itself was dead quiet for a bank holiday Sunday and very dated but quaint, however the staff were so friendly and eager to please so we went on into the restaurant. All we can say was that the food was superb, the flower pot bread was delicious, as were all our meals. The restaurant itself was quite modern with some authentic twists. We had a lovely night here, it is such a shame that it doesn't appear to be very busy, it definitely warrants it. Give it a try if you are in the area, to have a lovely night that benefits both sides.

Visited here with friends... food is frozen.. as in defrosted packed burgers fish cakes etc...how any pub can serve a frozen burger is pure lazy! Local pub =fresh food. Packet prawns (tiny) for the starters. Flys in the vinager and when we mentioned it the girl just said oh yes theyre flies. No sorry or anything... just like it was normal! Staff just stood round talking at the back. Never once asked if we were ok or if the awful food was ok or did we want any more drinks etc... in the end had to actually ask someone to clear the table (we where the only ones in there so not busy) and we skipped desert. Lazy service is one thing but lazy food when people are paying for it is not good. When you eat out you dont expect frozen packed food. Wont visit again.!!!

After a busy walk around Alton Towers on Thursday 1st sept we decided to give this place a try, we always look for something different with a nice feel and what better as we are in the country side to have a farm house feeling pub. Interesting menu on A4 printed sheets, although not a problem but if printing on paper use a decent quality paper that fits the pub theme, details add to the experience. Any way its only a bit of paper so not a massive issue as we are not eating that. Upon arrival after a hectic day at Alton Towers we where greeted by the friendly staff member Jamie and shown to our table, we were the only people in the restaurant.Ordered drinks then onto the meals, kids menu limited but the the create your Pizza for kids is a really good idea, keeping the kids entertained while the main meals cooking and the pizza's will only take minutes to cook, and as most parents know the kids are more inclined to eat what they have had an input on and created themselves. The waitress came took all the kids names and placed them with the pizza's. We had already been waiting sometime but helping the kids with their pizza's passed the time. Pizza's taken back to the kitchen to assume to be cook, only to be sat waiting for sometime and still no meal, at this point a few more customers had arrived. We asked Jamie who said he would find out but seemed a little put off by being asked if our meals where due soon. A young girl and told us another five minutes then the meals will be coming out. Fair enough we were hungry and tired. 5 minutes passed and meals started to come out, kids pizza's came out and we asked whos was whos? We were told we they didn't know, ok so it was a waste of time the children making their pizzas??? two came out with burnt crusts, the adults meals where presented really well and the hand cut home made chips was just great and all cooked just right. We got asked if the food was fine and yes the food was great however a little more attention to detail on kids stuff wouldn't of gone a miss. All in all the score is fair/average as areas could improve somewhat, waiting times especially and attention to detail when it comes to kids meals etc and maybe worth adding chips or something else to the pizza option as majority will not eat the burnt crust. On a plus keep the friendly staff and the great ambiance.

Staying at Alton Towers for the night but didn't want to eat in the resort.went in as the menu looked for good for us though the building didn't have a pub-y look. Lamb burger excellent. 2x JD burgers very nice 1x local sausages very tasty. Potions generous. Service good. And good value for money.

first time we've been back for about 10 years, and it's still as good... seated and served quickly, food arrived promptly ( especially so as the fussy kids virtually wrote their own menu with their changes), all tasted delirious especially my house burger witch was cooked to perfection, and portions large enough to satisfy all of us after traipsing round the towers all dayin all, don't be fooled by the social club lokk of the place, because it's far better on the inside

Went on saturday. No one in. Ordered salmon fishcake on menu as a homemafe salmon and dill fishcake for £13 I got a overcooked and incredibly thin salmon burger (i defy anyone to deny wasnt from a packet and freezer) chips not great. Clearly not kitchen up to scratch. Shoukd have complained but woukd have ruined the very small amount of atnosphere we had created around our table. shame really as the staff were lovely and attentive

Ate here early evening midweek, the restaurant was empty when we arrived so we had the full attention of the staff. The service was friendly and quick. The menu had a pretty good selection at reasonable prices. My 9yr old had the Italian picnic, make your own pizza from the kids menu. This was a great idea and he really enjoyed this. Sausage and mash and the JD burger were also ordered and we're thoroughly enjoyed. Nice place to eat if you're in the area.

We have visited this pub a number of times as we stay in the b and b over the road. Each time the food is lovely and the kids menu is also good. This has good quieter over the last year or so as alton towers has become quieter (they rely mainly on alton towers custom) and considering there were only a few tables occupied the service was a little slow. Otherwise very good and we will go back again next time we stay nearby

Dined here after a visit to the theme park. The menu was priced on the higher end of average but the food was spectacular. The Jack Daniels burger is something to behold in itself. The flavours were incredible. Top marks to the chef!Staff were very pleasant and helpful.Only downside was service was slow but as we were not in any rush it didn't bother us. We also had to try out a few chairs before finding one that didn't rock on the uneven floor surface. However those are only minor issues. If you have had a long day in the park and want to have some incredible pub grub, and you're not in a rush, there's no better place to visit.

Visited after Alton Towers. Its a lovely quirky pub with an excellent waitress -10/10 for service. Good choice on the menu, but portion size variable. Fish and chips at £12.95 is okay but the size of the fish was tiny, more like a child's portion, and the bread was out of a cheap thin packet loaf. Fishcake (1), chips and salad was okay, salad portion enormous (which I like), so that helped, as I gave my chips to the poor person in our party that had the fish... The burger and chips was okay, but nothing special. Childs bangers, mash and gravy was lovely but again a small portion- just 1 sausage. The food is served on various boards, tins etc. so its quirky, but the food looks lost because of the portion size. About £45 for 3 adult meals, 1 child, and orange squash drinks.

This is a nice place to come and get some traditional home cooked pub grub. It's a family run pub according to the sign and it's got the feel of an independent place. We had a baby with us who was easily catered for using the baby change facilities in the ladies toilets.

Went here on the spur of the moment whilst staying at Alton Towers and not being able to get a table before 9pm (too long to wait with the kids).Rang to check if a table booking would be needed and was told just to pop along. We had a steak which was cooked to perfection and a Jack Daniels burger which was delicious! The chips are the best restaurant/pub chips we have EVER had!!! The kids went for the make your own pizza which is a brilliant novelty dish which they loved! The staff were attentive and very friendly, wishing us a nice trip at the park for the weekend.Recommended and we wouldn't hesitate to go again!

Visited the blacksmiths Arms while staying at Alton Towers and being disappointed with the food on the site, a pleasant relaxing atmosphere with a wonderful attentive waitress. Not a bad choice on the menu, although we all picked the mixed grill which varied from plate to plate, pleasantly full afterwards with just enough room for a nice desert.

Stayed overnight in our motorhome (this pub is signed up to Britstops). Ordered ostrich burger and nachos. 45 minutes later waitress came out to say the chef had plated up and realised they'd cooked lamburger by mistake, and would be another 15 mins to serve. 25 more mins and the right burger came out, by which time I'd already finished my nachos. We were given a complimentary round of drinks to compensate. Hubby said his burger was good but waiting 1 hour 10 minutes, seriously? The pub wasn't busy when we ordered, with only three other couples in. No sign of the manager, or the chef who's mistake it was, which we felt was poor. Other than that though, attentive and pleasant waiting staff, lovely atmosphere, good night's sleep once the busy car park emptied at the end of the evening.

A charming and cozy little pub that feels refreshingly different from the typical Greene King franchise. The bar staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, engaging in delightful conversation that added a personal touch to our visit. The food was excellent – we tried the sharing platters and were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions and great value. The pub’s Christmas decorations were beautifully done, creating a warm and festive atmosphere that made our experience even more enjoyable. This is easily one of the best Greene King locations we’ve visited locally, and we’ll definitely be returning!

This is a fantastic pub. From the moment we walked in the staff were lovely couldn't be more attentive and also made a fuss of my daughter. Food was delicious and portion sizes were good. Especially factoring in the price. Would definitely recommend.

The food and atmosphere were both very good. And the servers were helpful and friendly. However the 3 behind the bar couldn’t be bothered to answer questions about the menu
