Came here for a bite to eat whilst staying at the local Travelodge. Really nice old 14th Century Inn with all the fittings to boot. The beer was excellent (Three Tuns Zenith) as was the food. Nothing overly fancy but hearty, filling and really well cooked. Staff were friendly and welcoming which made our brief stay all the more enjoyable. Well worth a go.

Olde world pub, just like they used to be 👍🏻 Lovely welcome from the bar lady and a group of locals having a drink. Had a wait for food to be cooked as doing an order at a time, no problem for us as sat reading & taking in the history and supping a beer. Worth the wait as most homemade or made at local butchers, etc. I had pasty, chips & beans, lovely & a peppery pasty. Hubby had ham, two eggs & chips, again very nice and he scoffed the lot! Would definitely recommend.

The pub has some interesting historical features and interesting furniture. A good choice of beers and ciders. The young lady behind the bar was very friendly and explained there would be a wait for food as they had two large parties to serve. This was fair enough and we sat and had some drinks while we waited. When we did eventually get our food we were quite disappointed with it, the chilli was a bit watery and it was overpowered by the taste of garlic, could've done with being richer. The mash with the sausage and mash was not seasoned and quite lumpy. We put this down to them being busy as the food the other parties had looked really nice. I hope this was a one off as other reviews recommended the food.

We had a great meal on Monday 5th June in the evening. Lovely lady serving who chatted happily , was very friendly AND efficient ! Very nice atmosphere and excellent Pub Grub at very reasonable prices. My partner had a tasty Lasagne (seemingly home-made) and I opted for a substantial Fillet Steak meal with all the trimmings ( I couldn't manage it all !) for £19.95p ...excellent. The locals were also cheerful and pleasant. (I have seen a "One Star" review on here and I can't imagine that they have the right place...there's a lot of "Black Swan Pubs" in the area). Many thanks to the team there and well done ! Cheers, Pete and Mike

The Black Swan is simply a dream of a pub. The staff are an absolute delight, they go above and beyond without a thought - that is their level of commitment to ensuring that patrons have a good visit. The food is well priced and varied. However, no real need for a menu - the pies are all you need to ask for. These pies are legendary - I can only assume that witchcraft is used in their making. There is always a selection of cask ales, which are run through at a rapid rate, meaning that you'll never risk a bad pint that has been sat too long in the barrel.

Reputedly the oldest pub in this part of the world. Warm welcome, decent ale (and a nice choice of wine by the glass). Proper, home-cooked, Sunday lunches and a relaxed and warm table by the gorgeous open fire. What could be nicer! Choice of meat for the roast, and non-roast items for those who don't. Lovely puds and super ice-cream, all served with a smile, even if you want to change a bit of the selection. Highly recommended on a miserably cold and wet Sunday!

Went for evening meal. The food was ok and the young lad serving us was very friendly and accommodating. I get that the pub appeals to people for its “rustic” feel, but it really could do with a good decorating to spruce it up. The place is still stuck in the 80’s with the car boot sale ornaments dotted around. I honestly don’t see why most of the reviews rate it 4 & 5 but each to their own as they say!

I visited the pub on recommendation for dinner. The food surpassed all expectations. Try the homemade pies. Brilliant wine & ale choices too. Tracey was working and made every effort to make sure I felt welcomed and well looked after. The landlady Jill came to welcome me personally and shared some interesting facts about the pub dating back to the 16th century. I was dining alone but quickly felt warmly welcomed. This is a fascinating, charming little pub steeped in history which is visible from the lopsided Tudor architecture and little niches and around the place. Ask the staff to tell you about the attempted assassination of Oliver Cromwell that took place there and the priest's escape tunnel connected to the local church! A must-see pub, highly recommended!

We made a special effort to visit this Old World Pub I saw this on the TripAdvisor site and was intrigued by some of the comments. We were given a friendly welcome at the bar where we sat next to the fireplace. The regulars were talkative and sociable giving the strangers that homely feeling. We asked if a table was available and were shown through to the delightful dining room. The room is not very large with some tables already reserved, so no doubt advance booking would be advised for busy periods. I chose the sausages with mash, my wife ordered chicken curry jacket potato. Our meals were tasty well portioned and excellent value for money. Looking forward to another visit.

This pub keeps winning CAMRA awards but don't miss their food for trying their beer. Their Sunday lunches are especially good. It's not haute cuisine but it's good locally sourced meat and vegetables cooked to order by staff who seem to care. The pies mid-week are not small individual pies. They are huge portions of large pies and are the better for it. If you think that you want a particular pie then order ahead!!

We visited the Black Swan twice during a self catering holiday nearby, once for drinks and the second time for dinner. It's a traditional local, with the public bar on one side (hard floor, high stools, pool table) and the lounge bar on the other (cosy sofas, old pianola, small dining area). The ambience is great, the landlady couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly, and the same goes for the barman/waiter (her grandson??). This is what English pubs used to be like. Complete with a priest hole and evidence of a musket shot on one of the walls. Couldn't recommend it more highly.

I offered my credit card to pay to be told nicely "my dear, we don't accept cards, but it's ok, you can pay another time, just pop the cash in when you can". I have been to this pub a few times and have always felt very welcome there. They serve nice beers for decent prices. They even have bookshelves for people to peruse. The atmosphere and the décor is outstanding with an open fire just to make it even cosier. The only thing I didn't try and should have done was the food.

Had a lovely meal and the hostess put on the fire just for us as we were the only ones on the restaurant side that night. Good first impressions of the pub side and the locals were quite friendly to obvious foreigners. Cash only.

We are stopping in the village for a week and were recommended the pub by our holiday cottage owner so thought we'd give it a try. When we got there on a Sunday lunchtime we were made amazingly welcome by the locals outside who loved our dog. Then inside all the customers and staff were really genuine and friendly. Although they were busy the staff were really accommodating. We've now been three times for lunch. Each and every time the customers and staff have been without exception lovely. All four adults have had different meals each time and each one has been very good quality, honest food. Also every time our dog is made to feel a like superstar. Today my son (aged 7 with special needs) was having a bit of a wobble as hasn't wanted to sleep enough while we are away. The lady serving us made him and us feel very much at ease and I can honestly say nowhere we have ever been before for a meal has been so helpful and understanding towards him and us.I just really wish it was our local!!!

3 lamb & 1 chicken Sunday lunches 4 glorious puddings, everything locally grown, cooked just like your mother makes it!!! It's a cash only establishment (we have been a few times before) so we already knew but they do inform you before they take your order. A lovely place I'd love to call my local....

On the face of it this pub has everything going for it - 14th century inn in a country setting, open fires and a selection of real ales. Unfortunately it feels like the menu hasn't been updated since it first opened! Ok I exaggerate but I cannot remember seeing fruit juice on a menu since I was a child way back in the 70's. The food was nothing special - breaded garlic mushrooms - didn't state they were breaded but again I can't remember the last time I went anywhere with breaded mushrooms. The meat pie was ok but nothing special and the fisherman's medley - again all the fish was breaded. A shame as with a bit of imagination the menu could be significantly improved and the restaurant a lot busier.

In many respects this pub meets many of a foreigner's expectations of a "traditional English inn" - low beams, cosy corners, friendly locals and roaring fires. So far so good. The selections of ales and ciders are also quite impressive, and the bar staff are helpful and obliging. So what is wrong?I'm afraid the food can best be described as unadventurous and being gluten intolerant I could only be offered cold meat, a jacket potato and a lettuce leaf with tomato. The menu seems to be one that has been used for some time and the food served to friends evidenced the use of bought in prepped items. Whilst this means that meals can be produced quickly it also results in rather dull dishes. - not a place for a special "dine out".

We used the Black Swan as a venue for refreshments after a family funeral. Gill Davies and her staff provided a beautiful meal (Stew and Dumplings) and home made deserts - lovely comfort food in front of a roaring open fire on a cold day. Just what we needed. Thank you.

Visited one evening in March 14 for drinks and meals as two couples. Warm welcome in bar - fire blazing cheerfully - locals happily chatting to us - good beer and competitive prices. Went through to dining room - comfy sofas to peruse the menu - amazing historic interior, all old timbered walls and ceiling, with lovely fire warming the room. The Landlady of many years standing proudly pointed out to us the marks on the timbers where Roundhead forces shot had entered the building during an exchange of fire in the Civil War. We ate our steaks that evening feeling very close to history! A very enjoyable evening had by us all - just a shame that there is no acccommodation, we would have booked like a 'shot'!

Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The menu was varied but not too much choice. We opted for jacket potato and a flat bread. Fresh and well presented.

Pleasant surroundings outside, unfortunately the food was not too a very high standard. Ham and piccalilli sandwich, ham tasteless (wafer thin and breaded, supermarket family pack springs to mind). Should have been advertised as a Piccalilli sandwich, Coffee was fine.

I absolutely love being in this place and it has a beautifully calm feel. However I am totally astonished by the dolls-house size servings for lunch- at normal lunch prices. I almost asked them if they hadn’t accidentally given me a kiddie’s portion - for a cheaper price- as for over £9 I got two slices of delicious small rye toast, about 7 very small lettuce leaves, 4 olives and a small pot of delicious dip. All very tasty but absolutely not a main course. I know I these are locally sourced ingredients but this felt really wrong. I will definitely return for post lunch coffees but will make sure to eat somewhere else where I can fuel up for lunch before hand.
