Very disappointing, booked on the way back from a week in the Lakes for a birthday meal. We had the dog with us so we were only allowed to book into the ‘tap room’ with a large sports screen and what appeared to be several over exited and loud children running around in their school uniforms. The menu presented was for the quieter and much more pleasant restaurant prices. Needless to say we left and moved to the White Bear next door for a decent, quiet and more pleasant dining experience.

Where to start we visited the Brewery last year, the food and service was outstanding. booked for this year what a difference. we ordered the scotch egg, cheese toastie and cod cheeks for starters. The cheese toastie was wrong as they served the haggis and quails egg (not great when someone is allergic to eggs) , so that went back. 2 of us had the sausage and mash. 2 had the chicken and leek pie. All arrived cold. The sausages were black. I had cut the end off mine before sending back. the Chicken and Leek pies pastry were also burnt and tasted really strange like it had been cooked in sesame oil and the broccoli tasted like an ashtray (my husbands words) . when our 4 meals returned we all received the same dish back (mine with the missing end of the sausage and fork full of mash) it had obviously just been put in the microwave. which meant the top was hot but still the main body of each dish was still cold. so we went hungry after sending them back again. we never received the onion rings we ordered, thank god is all I can say. The staff seemed not surprised when we said that we would only paid for the cod cheeks and scotch eggs. obviously, it has happened quite a bit. it is such a shame as we always look forward to eating there when in the area. please review your menu and chefs.

Booked our table at the black sheep brewery visitor centre. We were really looking forward to our meal. We arrived and were seated. We waited quite some time to be served. We ordered food and drinks. Our drinks arrived and our starters came. They were ok. Our main courses arrived. Mine was sausage and mash. The sausages were burned and black. The vegetables were perched on top of the dish they were also burned. The mash was like liquid and extremely salty. Absolutely shocking. We asked for some compense after eating. We were offered a 10% discount which was basically the auto gratuity. We realized later. I definitely would not recommend the food here. How can you get away with serving such terrible food?

Over the years we’ve had lunch here after visiting the shop or the tour. We haven’t visited in a number of years because we kept having to leave our dog and as he’s aged it’s something we don’t want to do anymore. We went for a potter around Masham last month hoping to frequent a cafe, sadly both that were open didn’t allow dogs inside. We took a punt and walked to the brewery as it said the bar now allowed dogs. We’re so glad we did because we had a fantastic lunch. We were all made to feel very welcome (dog, toddler and two adults) and dogs are even allowed in the restaurant area now. We had a burger and pizza and both were absolutely delicious as were the warm drinks and ale. We found the “dog friendly” note a bit hidden on your website. Please make a song and a dance about it because it’s a huge positive to people. Considering The Dales is a popular dog holiday destination we were left frustrated with the lack of cafes that accept them.

My husband wanted to visit the brewery as he’s a fan of Black sheep. Car parking was a bit tight but we must have arrived at a good time as we managed to get one of the few remaining spaces. Lovely staff, very friendly and welcoming. Very good menu, however I fancied the prawn sandwich but they hadn’t received their prawn order that day, which was a shame. Instead, I had the posh fish finger sandwich, which was huge and very tasty. My husband had a couple of beer paddles, which he really enjoyed. We also purchased some beer to take home and there are some nice gifts in their shop. Lovely place, beautifully decorated for Xmas and has a really nice atmosphere. We would return and would recommend but best to book as it was busy.

The Black Sheep Brewery bistro has gone from good to seriously needing some improvement. It is a shame that the Management Team don’t respond to reviews with some acknowledgement and response on what they plan to do to return this once lovely eatery back to the place it once was. Don’t waste your hard earned money would be my advice….find somewhere else with a more inspiring menu and a catering team that can cook simple , basic dishes well. Apart from wonderful beer this bistro has little to offer

Awful and disappointing….Avoid! Staying in the area our friend booked a meal 6.30 for 4. She was told they were “dead” and did not need to book. One of the group ordered a pizza and that was the only acceptable dish. I had Sea Bass, my friends had fish and chips and pork belly. My Sea Bass was so overcooked the skin was hard and black and I had 2 mouthfuls of the flesh which was dry and tasteless. The pork belly was tiny and also burnt and dry. The worst meal was the fish and chips, the batter was over cooked almost black and my friend had an upset tummy after trying to eat it. The only thing that stopped me sending mine back and complaining was the embarrassment it would cause to my friend who planned a pleasant evening for us. Today she regretted booking there at all. It’s obvious why they were “dead”, the kitchen needs a chef that knows how to make a £17.00 dish edible. I hope they realised when the plates went back.

Disappointing food, however staff happy to rectify and allow another choice. Though the changed choice to burgers lacked in taste. We originally went for the steak pie and chips and after separating the extremely thick pastry, was left with no more than 5 mainly small pieces of steak. Very expensive for really just a plate of chips peas and gravey with some some stewed steak on the side. Was not impressed overall. Came 5 months previously and had much better experience.

Fully booked, Tables empty We were visiting the area and looked at the Brewery website to see if we could book a table for lunch in the bistro. It said it was fully booked for the next 48 hrs! We then called into another local pub but unfortunately discovered the kitchen was closed. They suggested we try the Black Sheep as it was just round the corner, and we might be lucky with a table. So, off we went and discovered that the Bistro only had one table occupied and was otherwise totally empty. So much for being fully booked. We ordered the Haddock goujons for my Grandson, it was an excellent meal. My Grandaughter had Rarebit and she was very pleased with it. My husband and I had the pie, sadly the meat was a bit tough and the chips not quite cooked enough, slightly hard and pale. Staff were very pleasant but totally uninterested when we pointed out the misinformation on the website.

Only handful of staff (who were wonderful as always so look after them new owners) The menu has changed and what a massive disappointment - we ended up having beers only then left and went next door to The White Bear. We were so pleased the company had been saved but can’t see them surviving with such a poor choice of menu. On a positive note the beer is still perfect. £7.50 for a cheese and pickle sandwich with a few broken bits of slightly soft vegetable crisps - had previously enjoyed snacks here but this was disappointing. Service was good though.

Wonderful family Sunday lunch dogs included. Forwarded my autistics sons dietary needs and they were more than happy to accommodate. Staff are so helpful I can't recommend highly enough.

Visited for roast Sunday dinner which was excellent, massive portions of meat, everything was well cooked lovely veg and very friendly efficient service. Beer was obviously excellent as it’s brewed there. Then spent a fortune in the brewery shop

Going to Black Sheep Brewery was my husband’s Disneyland, so as a non-beer person, I’ve had mixed experiences with previous brewery visits... but this is by far the best one I’ve been to! While my husband was disappointed brewery tours weren’t happening due to COVID...

Had great meal tonight with beer excellent as ever. Was perturbed, however, by some diners (young men) persistently moving between tables and around generally without facemasks. No blame on staff, as they were always pointing out the importance of keeping the rules. Worrying though.

Food safety procedures don’t exist. No gloves wear and direct hands on food like grated cheese. Staff on their phones after washing hands and come back straight to touch food without washing again and gloves. Touching clothing, objects and face and straight tooling of food. Dirty nails with chipped nail varnish. No regard to allergies and allergens. I do not recommend! Reported.

Popped in for food and a drink and glad we did. We got a warm welcome, dog friendly and as we were senior citizens food was half price and tasty, all washed down with a nice pint.

Fantastic little sandwich shop, I used to go on a regular basis when I worked in Knaresborough. Food is always freshly made for you and the staff are really friendly and offer great customer service.
