Black Olive Delicatessen in Waveney

Came here a few times when on holiday. Had croissants, sausage rolls, sourdough bread, baguettes and cinnamon swirls. All amazing! Always a queue but worth the wait

We (3 adults, 3 children) had a takeaway lunch from the Black Olive and were really surprised at how tasty the food was for every item purchased. Food portion sizes were good and although it is not cheap, we would definitely return due to the taste and quality of the food. Highlights were the Chilli Jam Pork Pie and Chorizo Sausage Roll.

We chose two scrumptious salads but unfortunately they were served up in plastic containers. There are many alternatives available and until BO change to environmental choice of packaging we will not be returning

Display in the window of Pieminster pies looked amazing. We purchased the ‘Kate & Sidney’ pies, pea salad & potato salad. The pies were definitely lacking in seasoning. The pea salad was quite unpleasant….so the only ‘highlight’ was the potato salad. Sadly, a waste of money.

Fantastic deli superb local foods with a lovely friendly staff! Wonderful delicious delicacies. The pulled pork pie and local chorizo and fennel salami were excellent!

The best tart I have ever eaten from bere today, cheese and beetroot brought for me for lunch. It was incredible. Probably my last choice if I picked from a menu so wasn't so excited to hear that's what was chosen for me and then tried it and it blew me away. It was ridiculously good- 100% recommend them

Message to IBS / Gluten sufferers: Don’t even think about it . Message to management: if you don’t have a GF option ready to go , don’t offer it to your customers. I could have enjoyed a much better GF meal across the road. I will never go back in there .I give one star for the Cornish pasties my boys ate which they thought were Okay. My cold Gluten Free pie cost me almost £6 and it was simply diabolical. I asked 3 times if I could eat it right away as we were having an easy lunch at the seafront , they assured it was, and I even noticed a mocking tone from the lady as if I was being stupid by asking . When I opened the “Moo” pie from the factory manufactured cardboard box I realised it was frozen . I had to walk back once my kids ate theirs , then they gave me a chilled one from the fridge. I told them again that on the box it said was supposed to be eaten warm . They didn’t offer to put it in the oven even a bit , I would have been happy to wait !. I ate that hideous pie because at that point I was too hungry to go and hunt for gluten free food and queue to order elsewhere . That pie was like eating unbaked pizza from the fridge , it gave me a stomach ache for the rest of the day… maybe because it was supposed to be cooked???. This is supposed to be a Delicatessen and I was happy to spend my hard earned money in something up to standards, instead I got something worse than what you expect from a petrol station.

A really wide variety of food, both fresh and packaged, local and more unusual, exotic items too. The freshly made salads make a good lunch or an accompaniment to dinner.

Wanted to purchase some pies. Looked in the shop window to choose and there were a couple of blue bottles enjoying the pies. Can't believe that they weren't covered up. Sadly put us off. 😳

We have eaten here on several occasions and always enjoyed good food served by friendly staff.Four of us dined here today - one needing to eat gluten free food. Our waitress Gabriella was really helpfull going through all the gluten free dishes with her. We all ate well and will certainly return in future.

Great range of deli ingredients, items and accompaniments. Made up fresh each day and the earlier you shop the most choice you well have. A delightful shopping experience of smells, colours and anticipation.

we popped in and all bought somthing to take back home with us, the pasty I had was lovley, such a good choice in the shop

We took home a Kate and Sidney and a Funghi Chicken pie to heat up. We both agreed they were they rated among the best ours we’ve had. The pastry is buttery and light and the filling generous.

Seriously disappointed! After reading the reviews about the place I was excited to try some of their produce. Unfortunately their sausage rolls tasted burnt and the quiche was dry rather than moist!

I like this deli but really feel they should have itemised receipts like other food shops do. On two occasions I felt the staff had made an error with my bill but it is hard to challenge when you are a the head of a long queue!

I’ve visited this wonderful deli twice now. Wonderful selection of pies, cheese, chutneys, pasta sauces etc. The salad boxes are great, especially the giant couscous salad. Perfect for a lunch on the beach 🏖

We popped in to the Black Olive to grab something to eat on the beach. We had amazing vegan sausage rolls and a fantastic salad. All delicious. The staff were super organised and friendly on a hot, busy Friday. It was great to see them challenge a couple who were not wearing face coverings!

Visited the deli to get our evening meal.After lunchtime so the queue had gone down.Good size shop allowed a excellent one way system. And limit to 6 customers at a time.Great selection of pies and savoury dishes. Steak and kidney and chicken and mushrooms were excellent. Very full with great pastry. Great service and range.Excellent and highly recommended.

Salad mix boxes are amazing. A good choice of box sizes and very generous with portion size.The choice of salads is diverse and perfect for vegetarians and as a light lunch option. Salads are well made with lots of flavour, as well as an excellent red wine, red onion and mustard sausage roll. Would highly recommend, perfect for taking back to eat on the beach.

we had the 'free ranger' and the 'fungi chicken' as a picnic on the beach. They....were.....AMAZING!! CAN HIGHLY RECCOMEND

A really lovely shop with a lot of choice for lunch time food. Packed us a hamper for a birthday treat at th3 beach hut. Absolutely scrumpy. Great service with safe shopping.

My group and I really enjoyed our food and the queuing didn’t seem too bad. But of course with these premium prices not one slip should be expected. Thanks 👍

Excellent deli and a dream if you are looking for a good choice of takeaway vegetarian food. I personally stuck to my favourite - the large pork pie - and was not disappointed.

July 14th 2020 first & only time I will ever visit the Black Olive Deli in Southwold.I purchased:6 thin slices of ham, 80g bar of chocolate & one large bag of tortilla crisps. Completely misheard shop assistant, contactless payment, no receipt, not till I saw my account I realised she had charged me an extortionate £24.49!!!! That's £24.49 for 6 thin slices of ham, an 80g bar of chocolate and one large bag of tortilla crisps!!! Honest mistake? Hmmmmm? Possible but unlikely, as the lady serving should have experience of prices of items to have realised that £24.49 was excessive for the purchases made and double checked t confirm before taking payment.

Decided to get takeaway to take back to our b&b one rainy evening. Smoked salmon fillets and mouth watering salads made a tasty supper

Every time we go to Southwold we stop off at The Black Olive to buy a couple of cornish pasties and sometimes a pork pie to take home. The shop is beautiful with an amazing selection and the staff are always very pleasant.

Fantastic deli, the pies are delicious so many to choose from the vegan ones don't disappoint, if it's pies ,cheese or salad this is well worth a visit

Bought a couple of quiches here with salad to take away as it all looked so appetising. Unfortunately when I opened the bag later to eat the goats cheese and spinach quiche, I had been given a burnt quiche which was flat as a pancake and very disappointing. They should not have served it.

Shame the gentleman couldn't raise a smile. Thought maybe the previous customers were unfriendly so put on my brightest smile hoping for a glimmer return but alas no. Maybe they're sick of the tourist although I would have thought a necessary evil. Thank goodness the produce is good. Certainly not the ambience!

This is the place for a picnic, or deli bits like olives and local salami. The pies are fab but the quiche, especially brie and beetroot is amazing!

The sell more but it’s the closed and open pies / quiches that drive the ques. We tried a goodly selection and both th3 meet and vegetarian options where greatly enjoyed

The girls that work at the counter are very rude and snobbish . Came in and asked if they have a blackberry pie and told that they stopped selling it three years ago when in fact I bought it there last summer . Lazy and unpleasant, consider themselves the gift of the god. Won’t return

This is a great place to choose a salad and sit on the beach. Good selection plus sausage rolls etc. Still one of my top choices to visit for lunch food when in Southwold.

Pies this time spot on (had for supper later that evening). Was underwhelmed last time but the fillings better and much tastier.

I always pop in here where I'm guaranteed a warm welcome:) there is good selection of fresh salads, lovely pies, good selection of cheeses and the best Portuguese tarts in town ~ the difficult part is deciding what to buy. A real asset to Southwold.

The pies here are excellent, but as my husband would eat two it makes them an expensive meal option.We would shop here more if their prices were a little more modest.I suppose people who can afford to live in Southwold can afford it.They never seem overly busy and I think they would do better to be a little more reasonable but the quality of their produce is good.

Not only are the staff very friendly and helpful but they serve the best sausage rolls in the world!

We were looking for a filling snack and picked up a couple of the home made pies which were really well filled and very tasty, they hit the spot.

Southwold is about an hour away from where we live and, when the weather is set fair, we often head there for a day by the coast.

It was beautiful weather, so we visited Black Olive and had a selection of interesting and very tasty salads and pies for our evening meal, which we ate sitting by the sea. The staff were very hard pressed a lot of the time, as it was so busy, but were always pleasant and helpful The food is lovely, and they happily supply cutlery and napkins if you want them. Summer closing is 5.30, but late in the day there is less choice available as it has all been snapped up, So if you have your heart set on something in particular then go early if you can.Highly recommended.

This place has the best pies in Southwold. Great for a picnic on the beach. Great choice and well worth a visit

Fantastic selection of fresh produce, such a vast selection, The brie and beetroot tart was off the scale amazing,the spinach and goats cheese tart was divine .highly recommend checking it out.

Sausage rolls were wonderful, lots of interesting choices for pies, takeaway salads and coleslaws, deli foods and more. Love this sort of shop and well positioned in a little town full of character

On our return to southwold my wife and I revisited the black olive and as before we found an excellent choice of locally produced goods. We especially enjoyed the potato salad and the fantastic Sausage rolls . If your in southwold you must give it a visit

Mmm the meat pies are absolutely delicious would recommend meat and potato and the beef and ale a little pricey but worth every penny

I had the chicken taragon. Really good. Full of meat and gravy. Just about worth the £4+ you pay for each small pie. Take a deep breath and enjoy

Tried the Matador pie. Soft pastry with delcious chorizo and meat filling. Lots of other tempting food too

Bought pies, they were delicious, hand made, with great fillings. Great place to stock up for a picnic on the beach. Definitely recommend this deli.

You've got two options for good-quality low-cost eating in Southwold, - not the pubs, where bar staff civility is often worse than the food - but either the Little Chip Shop or buying from the deli, the bakery and/or the butchers.

Love it here - great selection of picnic/walking food. The Sausage rolls and quiche are excellent especially with the salad box selection.

Went for a pork pie and quiche luncheon with salad .The pies and quiche did not disappoint.

We always call in this place when in Southwold. Being a vegetarian choice in this part of the country tends to be rather limited. However, not here. There are a great range of salads and pies along with many other items and I note that the vegetarian / vegan range is increasing. Shroom pie excellent, you will not go wrong! Prices high, but isn't everything (well virtually) in Southwold?

On a recent visit to Southwold from Yorkshire came upon Black Olive,excellent display of wares on display,purchased one Scotch egg and one individual Steak pie the cost just shy of £8 as I am not the Sultan of Brunei I was taken aback at price of aformentioned savouries and upon exsiting establishment had to rest to fully recover my composure.The pie was adequate and the Scotch egg less so,in future I will only purchase pies in the West Riding and have only my self to blame for thinking such complicated foodstuffs could be made in Southern England,what kind of fool am I ?

I love Southwold. I love the atmosphere, the small, friendly nature of the place by by jingo, I love the Black Olive. It’s good for nipping in for a quick treat, picking up picnic food to eat by the sea or you could go all out like we did and buy a ton of pies and salads for a family dinner party. I’ve tried making it at home but it misses the Black Olive magic. Everything about the Black Olive brings about bliss.

We bought some pies to take home with us. Have never had such tasty pies. Plentiful filling, wonderful flavours and superb pastry combine to deliver a mouth watering result.

Very busy, but the best chicken liver pate I ve ever tasted. Also, the scotch eggs are great. They have lovely runny yokes and come in a great variety of flavours.

Best pies in the land. Always visit before we go home to take one home for tea :0) lovely range to choose from.

Bought a beef and stilton pie to eat at home. For the price it was lacking in meat, and stilton was too overpowering - enough to spoil it. Now disappointed to find that these are mass produced pies that can be bought in supermarkets all over the country.

Fantastic little place to pick up the most delicious sandwiches, pies, salads etc. We had salt beef sandwiches last time we went and they were wonderful. The coffee is great too.

We shopped here all week for interesting foods try the quiche Loraine and tubs of mixed salads, to die for!!!

We go here every time we visit Southwold, the perfect excuse not to cook. The pies are fab and quiches really tasty and varied. We also like the different flavoured break sticks. The salads though are the star as far as I am concerned, they are lovely, freshly made and often different daily, so no getting bored! Also love the speciality treats on offer on the other counter, the tartes are quite decadent! Staff are always friendly and efficient.

As you walk past the window, you will see an enormouse number of pies and everybody seems to want one - there is a good reason for this as they are seriously good. Sure you can go to the supermarket at home and buy a pie to take home and warm in the oven, but the ones here are seriously delicious and very well made - no soggy pastry here. The oven isn't visible on display but it is definitely worth having a pie heated up if you want to eat it as a picnic on the beach. Girlfriend raved about all the pasta salads they had a well.If only they could open up a branch near my home...

A lovely choice of pies, salads, sausage rolls, cheese, bread, cured meat and other delectables. Black Olive provides all the makings of a first rate picnic. But don't shop here if you're on a budget. Would get top marks if it weren't for the prices.

Amazing salads to combine if you wish in 3 different sizes, great local cheeses and scotch eggs to die for. Pretty decent olives as well. Service was very friendly despite the pressure of the queue. Lovely place!

Had various pastry items all lovely especially the Brie and beetroot tart. The salad items were also really nice and you can purchase a mix of items in one tub so ideal for picnic for a small family.

Popped in here the other day and ordered my wife and I 2 x sausage rolls but as normal my eyes were nearly to big for my belly. As fantastic as the sausage rolls are , unless ur starving, the normal size will do. We also ordered some potatoe salad, which was so good, we were still eating 3 x days later. Simply superb

Fantastic combination of fresh home baked breads, Sausage rolls, flans, quiches etc.... complimented by a vast selection of salad accessories. Perfect pack up for a long walk in the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

This deli is on the high street. Their chicken liver pate was very good. The different salads were very tasty.

It is a lovely shop full of tasty goodies.I saw a lovely Thai Green Curry and paid the £4.50 which I really thought was a little on the expensive side.What really disappointed me when I got home and tried the pie and found it full of feta cheese spinach and nuts. we had a day trip to Southwold and decided to have a picnic style lunch,the pies are brilliant and are the salad bowls,both highly recommended,especially sitting watching the sea!

Love popping in to the Black Olive for a pastie, pie or lovely mixed salad and other tasty nibbles. Great picnic food. Love the little fruit tartlets. Great service and good prices.

Whilst looking for some food to take back to our apartment we came across the Black Olive Deli, and their wonderful Scotch Eggs, Quiches and Salads. They also have great pies and cheeses amongst other food stuffs. Worthwhile stopping to have a look and the food was really great.

There are some great pies in here!! Also the deli counter serves other bits and pieces idea for taking home for lunch or dinner.

Not the cheapest pies you will ever see.....but if you want top quality, then you have to pay. We bought one each, and with veg and mash, eating in with a bottle of Prosecco was barely £30. Could you eat out so well? I very much doubt it.

Delicious pies and all things pastry, we opted for a very tasty Quiche Lorraine which you could taste all the ingredients in (not like supermarket ones) and a Beef & Chorizo pie, which was super meaty! We also got a mixed salad of delicious giant cous cous, pasta, beetroot, which we took back to our B&B for tea. Not a soggy pastry bottom to be had!

The food here is excellent if a little on the pricey side. If you want to put together a last minute picnic of cold meats, fish, salads and bread then it's awesome. The pies are a specialty and the sausage rolls second to none.

When in Southwold I always pop in here to top up some deli items such as olives and other little titbits. It is a brilliant little shop and I always seem to find something different.
