Black Lobster in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Clearly the website needs updating as they appear to be closed for the winter. Tried on Thursday 3rd October at 1pm and they were closed with all tables cleared away.

Oh my gosh. This place is the best seafood I've had in ages!

Was in search of a lobster roll for a birthday treat and came across Black Lobster. Worth every penny! We had a whole lobster and split some crab tacos and both were fresh, tasty and filling. Sitting outside eating it in the fresh air with a view of the sea was fantastic. Would come everyday if I could. 10/10 would recommend.

Amazing food on the Quay side. Don't dismiss the place on looks. You will love it.

What a find this place is! Stunning, well cooked, fresh seafood by the estuary. We will be back for more! I recommend the squid fries with a pint of cider!

Fantastic location. Sea views and Fantastic service that went above and beyond for our birthday 🎂 Had whole lobster 🦞 and fries that was absolutely amazing. Avoid busy St Ives and grab yourself some delicious food. Thank-you so much for making our day special 🦞🥂👌

Always really enjoy the food here - the last visit the food was exceptional - great service and with live music and the sun shining the atmosphere was second to none - can't wait to go again!

Calling my friends review juvenile is ironic when as a business owner you chose to lose out on potentially £50 of revenue because you approached with hostility immaturity and a lack of care or reasoning I brought my own food due to allergies, my brother and his partner had no food and when you approached were in the middle of reading the menu, probably about to purchase as they had read reviews before coming. (Hence I grabbed food from Asda). Next time rather than approaching in a negative manor perhaps find out the facts first, because ultimately, we still ate just off from the benches, heard your live band and you lost out on £50+ and ended up with 2 negative reviews. Before you respond questioning why I didn’t state these facts about my allergies, it’s simply because you didn’t allow me any chance, I began telling you I was looking to buy a drink for myself as I was the one you were questioning, however, that wasn’t good enough, you said you required customers to buy food & a drink.

I am responding to the two reviews before me that vindictively and deceptively suggested that Black Lobster had poor food, atmosphere and service. I was there when they were politely asked to take their food elsewhere and then come back and have a drink. They had lots of food - at least two and were no where near the menu for ordering as they suggested. They stayed nearby to listen to the music without buying anything. You wouldn’t go into a restaurant and do this. I have reported both the reviews as fake and deceptive as I was there. People think they can hurt and retaliate through reviews and it isn’t ok.

The food is amazing! Everything wonderfully cooked and such lovely flavours, we had soft crab tacos, fried squid, slaw and chips. We went back another day for the Lobster. The service was great, run by truly lovely people! Can’t wait to visit again. Thank you!

They advertised a band playing at 2pm, we arrived at 1pm and ordered lunch. The squid and fries were nice but nothing special and small portions for £14.50, husband had crab tacos for the same price and said not great at all and very small portion. I had a gin and he a draught lager. The bill came to £44.50 and we were still hungry so went back for some dirty fries £9.50! The band didn’t turn up until 3 and we had to go for car park. Feel well ripped off. They really need to look at their prices.

Great place, the food looked good....but it lacked taste...I imagined it would have south american/Asian flavours .....could have done with more chilli or lime. . . Maybe have some on the side sonpeople could bumb the flavour up 🤔 . Brilliant quality of ingredients though!!! Loved the soft shell crabs!!!

What a find - a black 'hut' at the end of Asda car park certainly not where you would expect to find food like this - soft shell crab tacos were amazing, as were burgers, kimchi chips and steak tacos, we never stick to menu and always seem to confuse who we order from but they could not have been more helpful and pleasant !

The staff were friendly and the food was absolutely delicious, the salad was fresh and crunchy, the tacos were freshly made, lots of flavours, just perfect.

A little gem. Still can't believe how good the food was that came out of this place. We had lobster, prawn taco and some dirty fries. All amazing. Well worth hunting out.

Superb. Fish tacos and squid fries were amazing, so was the blackened chicken burger. Excellent service, very helpful and welcoming.

Food for the Gods! Don't let the small scale fool you. My wife and I were initially unsure as we pulled up but so glad we stayed. She had the chicken tacos and I had the sea food tacos. Both were excellent. Fresh ingredients and wonderfully seasoned. We wish we could have eaten more. Dog friendly. Staff were lovely and a modest but great selection of drinks and beers. We will definitely be going again. Also rumours of a restaurant need to be investigated. Love this place . Please give it a go if you have the chance. Note: as it is exclusively outside seating. It may not be open in bad weather.

Holidaying in the area and visited on the back of other reviews. Well worth it! We had lobster (generous size) and blackened chicken. The big eaters in the family had a whole lobster, half was plenty for me (and I’ve got a healthy appetite). Delicious and great value for money. As others have said, don’t be put off by the location at the back of Asda car park (= free parking). The only amendment I’d make is to have some finger washing/wiping facility for lobster eaters. Would very highly recommend

Who’da thought you could have the best seafood lunch in a ‘the Asda’ car park? Served from a sea container no less Well that is exactly what you get here and it’s to die for Outside tables with views over the ocean Lovely staff, amazing seafood dishes, good beer and wine and well below restaurant prices Love it

Rarely somewhere gets 5 stars from me. This is a funny one because its a shack on the end of the quay outside asda. Those in the know will be aware of how good the food is here. We had soft shelled crab tacos. Three individual crabs deep fried in a light batter on a bed of fresh salsa, sriracha mayo and a soft white taco. Promptly served and all for the princely sum of 8.95. Perfect!

Stopped to buy coffee but before I could even get out the vehicle they moaned I couldn’t park there. Shame really!

Excellent food with a surprisingly wide range of gluten free options. Do not be put off by the location. It is well worth sitting down and sampling what they have to offer, We were all really impressed. Quick and friendly service! Would highly recommend the soft shell crab tacos. First rate.

Can’t comment on the food. It’s never open on time. We’ve tried 4 times now over 2 years, and while I’d love to have some of their food, I literally can’t get food.

Once you get past the ASDA car park (the ONLY ADSA in UK without a green ASDA sign!) the Black Lobster has stunning sunset views over Hayle Harbour, the best calamari in town and highly recommend fish tacos and chips to live music on a Friday Evening!

After reading reviews I thought give this place a whirl . Wish I hadn’t bothered within 15 mins of opening while stud in a line of 4 people waiting to be served she had run out of lobster !! ,so we opted for the dirty fries with blackened prawns (they were just standard king prawns with seasoning) and the crab taco she said 25 mins wait thought fine not a problem fresh food takes time to cook after 45 mins of waiting we still hadn’t got our order nor had the couple in front of us , when the food finally came it wasn’t even worth the wait . the so called dirty fries was just a spicy slaw with 4 prawns what was just standard king prawns not blackened any way shape or form the crab taco was pathetic tiny little thing hadn’t even seen crab if it tried again just more slaw the price I’d of expected more oh and no fork to eat it with or napkins to wipe your hands with or after . It could of been a little gem and a gold mine but it just seems like the owners given up !!

Food was ehhh. Way overpriced for dirty fries that only had like 5-6 pieces of shrimp. Not worth the trip. Save yourself money and go to an actual restaurant. Food looks good in photos but lacks flavors

Not great, prices were over the top. The crab tacos were fine, nice tacos and the crab tasted very fresh but the sauce and salsa had very little flavour. Crab burger was alright, the slaw was rubbish and going a little brown, good fries but overall not impressive. Prawn tacos were covered in sauce and too oily. Pretty disappointing.

Been here a few times now in the summer. Can’t beat the location on a warm evening. Excellent fresh food, friendly staff, occasional live acts too! Great place, worth the price for the food.

I was very excited to visit this place after reading so many great reviews. However my experience with this place was poor. Like few others already mentioned, the food is over priced for the portion and location though the dishes are a good variety. The half lobster costs £25 and whole lobster costs £45. You can easily pay for these prices in a sit down restaurant not in a takeaway eating on the benches in Asda car park! I had soft shell crab taco. It’s one small crab split over three tacos so mostly cold salad with little bit hot crab. To me that’s not worth £12 eating on the bench. The food is average. I’m disappointed and will definitely not return.

Freshly prepared food available, the lady taking the order was very friendly and polite. Good seafood and non seafood options. I had the beef chilli tacos with chips, they were really good 👌. Most options were sold out by the time I got there so I suggest you go early and wait. There was live music and the view is amazing. Perfect for a Sunday evening!

Had a pint of Offshore and tasted like it had been watered down. Fish tacos were average at best, mackerel was lovely and fresh though. 17.50 for fish tacos and watery lager is too much tho! Nice location....well it would be if someone hadn't given ASDA planning permission to ruin the waterfront. Could also at least give you a chance to get another drink when you're food comes. My food came and I had to rejoin the queue for another ten minutes to get one, granted it was bank holiday Sunday though and obviously busy. Overall, bit of a letdown.

What can I say about this place, great location ample parking (ASDA), the space outside is very covid friendly,the food was fantastic and plentiful,cooked perfectly and not a long wait time at all, best place to eat in Hayle.

Ordered a meal of a lifetime. Huge spider crabs, soft shell crab and other local variety of fish tacos and mussels. All was tasty and fresh produce one can ever have. We missed ordering lobster as they ran out in half n hr. But BEWARE if you parking in Asda car park the limit is for 2 hrs. There are Parking Eye camera that would automatically charge £40 fine if you exceed the time.

We had a family lunch here after doing our holiday shopping in the nearby supermarket. The food here is superb, especially the soft crab baps. Best on a sunny day when the views over the nature reserve and estuary all add to the experience.

Great tasty food! Seating is outdoors, so dress appropriately - it was chilly when we visited, but that was our fault for not checking the weather. The food was lovely, although they didn't seem quite able to meet demand. Many people who arrived after us found they couldn't order food as the kitchen quickly reached capacity. I'm not sure if that's really a problem with the operation or a symptom of being successful - there was no shortage of customers! So, if you're going to visit for some wonderful grub, bring a jumper if it's cloudy, and be polite and patient with the staff while they do their best to make you a yummy meal!

The day we arrived they were not serving food until 1pm and there were a few issues with the electricity but when the food came it was worth the wait! Everything is cooked and fresh and although not all items on the menu were available, we tried a good few dishes and they were not any complaints. Worth a visit!

Absolutely delicious! Soft shell crab tacos done exceptionally well. What an unassuming little spot overlooking the river flowing into the sea. There was a wait when we were there but it was more than worth it.

Don't get fooled by the strange location (behind the big Asda parking lot). Had fish and soft shell crab tacos, which were amazing! The beer was great. A bit pricy, but totally worth it! Lovely view as well.

My friend and I were excited to eat here after seeing the 4.5star rating. We both love mussels. We ordered crab nachos, 2 lots of mussels in a Thai red curry sauce, and 2 pints of Off-Shore. The nachos were good although there wasn't much crab meat and it got to a point of feeling we were just eating a packet of crisp. The mussels were cold, the sauce luke-warm. Some of the texture on some of the mussels were so bad we spat a few out. Due to being worried about food poisoning we didn't finish them. We didn't get food poisoning (we ate there two days ago). It was a waste of money. We expected more considering the cost. (We spent less at a really nice restaurant in Newquay today and had really tasty WARM mussels). Our advice? Go to the pizza place next door or buy your own mussels from Asda (next door) and cook your own. The fries, however, were excellent, plus we love a pint of Off-Shore, hence the 2 stars.

Amazing little spot. Food is absolutely delicious, made and served by the friendliest people possible! We had the Thai mussels and half a lobster. The lobster was so fresh and lovely. And the mussels were quite possibly the best we've ever had! Cannot recommend highly enough!

On holiday in Hayle and Black Lobster popped up on Google Maps. It doesn't look much as you pull up into 'Asda carpark' but once you head towards the foodie area it all just seems to click into place. We ordered mussels and chips, squid and chips and a plain chicken burger for a fussy child (instead of the advertised blackened chicken with jalapeños etc)... Also ordered some drinks. Service was excellent, location beautiful (if you look towards the estuary, not Asda 😂) and food was YUM! Would absolutely recommend, especially if you're like us and still apprehensive eating inside venues.

Me and my girlfriend are local and have walked and driven past this place so many times and always mentioned we should pop In. So yesterday we took the plunge, well I’m glad we did. Food was 10/10 and customer service was great with top banta. I wanted the chicken burger but they didn’t have any. However, the chef and I presume owner offered to make one out of shredded chicken thigh in marinade. It was awesome and should 100% be added to the menu!!!!! We will certainly visit again

Me and a group of friends stumbled across Black Lobster after a day at the beach - boy did we strike it lucky. Situated with a view of the bay, Black Lobster is the perfect place to unwind, have some tasty food and good beer. Great variety on the menu, especially considering the size of the building, with great veggie options as well. In particular, the seafood was exquisite, you could really taste how fresh it was. With great food accompanied by beer, cider and cocktails on tap, we stayed for hours and would’ve comfortably stayed there the whole evening had the weather not taken a turn for the worse. A special mention to the two lovely ladies who were working; they were so friendly, patient and accommodating for our large group, they really made our experience dining at Black Lobster a joy. Keep up the great work.

Third time lucky. Reached the place late twice. Not this time. Ordered crab and veggie burgers. Both were yum. TBH veggie was better than crab. Maybe I just love halloumi. Quick service, took takeaway.

So happy we found this place! First day we tried the Spider crab dish and this didn’t disappoint. Was fresh, and presented well, with perfectly seasoned chips and their own unique slaw side. Second visit (after an awful experience at The Cornish Arms) I had the Lobster.. again so tasty and fresh. Other members of our party had a fish burger & mussels and all was thoroughly enjoyed. Aside from the food itself.. the ladies here were very friendly and work extremely hard. The views are great and it was a well needed relaxed vibe here. Shame we only discovered it towards the end of our visit, as we would have visited every day if we could. Not the cheapest meal out but worth it for the whole experience & always willing to spend a little more for quality food & service. Oh and the brownies here went down a treat with the kids & adults alike. Highly recommend

Absolutely amazing food. We eat here regularly as it serves fantastic, freshly prepared food. I usually have the squid and fries but have had fish tacos and steak burger among other things and never been disappointed. A great range of drinks too and the staff are really friendly if you chat to them.

We found this little place on the quayside when we could get in where we had planned. And what a great find. Wrap up it’s a little chilly on the quay but enjoy fantastic food, some music and a lovely spot.

Went to see superb local musician Liam Jordan play at this out door restaurant venue. Had food whilst there, the spiced pollack burger was amazing! Highly recommended.

We stayed in Hayle for a week and were regular visitors to the Asda superstore, and couldn’t help noticing the Black Lobster shack next to the Asda car park. It’s not as bad a location as it sounds, as on the other side of the shack you have views over the waters of Hayle estuary. On a sunny day, it’s actually quite a pleasant spot to sit, but there is no protection from the elements (outdoor bench seating only). We visited for a late lunch one afternoon. Our group of 4 tried the fish tacos, soft shell crab burger, halloumi wrap and fries. The food was excellent, the seafood in particular was very well prepared. Service was very slow however, and the one person doing the cooking seemed to be struggling to keep up with the orders, even though there were very few customers there at the time. Anyhow, we were not in a rush, and the food was worth the wait! Note that food is only served during the daytime, in the evening the food service moves over to Harry’s Bodega which is a restaurant a few min away, offering a similar but larger menu.

Amazing food and service I couldn't recommend it more highly. We had a pizza and cocktails it was exactly what we needed on a hot summer day and reasonably priced too!

Wow ! What a find ..... staying in Haven Rivière Sands and stumbled across this amazing cafe next to Asda in Hayle. We were a large group who all had something different to eat. We had Burger, Chicken burger, squid and chips and soft shell...

Totally delicious lunch and soooo helpful for our daughter's gluten free requirements. Gorgeous setting and my favourite lager on draft. All boxes were ticked!!

Great food but too long waiting time. We had to wait almost one hour for some tacos. They told us the waiting time was 20 min.

Incredible food! Great unique location we are so glad we stumbled across it! The staff were really helpful with advising on which food was ok for my wife’s dairy allergy. We had the crab tacos and squid and fries and both were amazing! When we come back to Hayle we will absolutely be coming back for more!!

Originally we came for lobster but unfortunately was sold out, we decided to try hake burger ! And let me tell you this was the best fish burger we had ever tried. Fish absolutely melting in you mouth. Absolutely fantastic!

So pleased we found the Black Lobster! We ordered the Soft Shell Crab tacos and the Squid & Fries (to take away) and we loved every bit of it! The flavours worked so well and the ingredients tasted so fresh. We had a drink whilst we waited. Lovely setting. We will be back to try the other dishes! Perfect, thank you.

This place is really bad. Is a canteen that serves snacks and charges a lot for it . Portion are very small mainly filled up with salad . Staff not nice . Will NOT RECOMMEND this place to anyone

Having been to Asda carpark a few times I was surprised to discover a eatery at the waters edge, so checked the reviews and visited for lunch with my wife and daughter. Great understated service with fresh tasty food . It felt earthy and wholesome.

The food is definitely worth 5 stars. Amazing crab and Hake Tacos. Location was great but some of it needed a bit more love.

Sadly, there was no lobster available, but the hake tacos and fried squid dishes made up for that! Delicious food at a unique venue. Friendly staff rounded out the experience.

Lovely atmosphere and music was nice however menu is very limited nothing vegan and it’s so overpriced. Loaded fries £8.50 for a tiny little portion! Doesn’t really make sense when chips are £3 add some cheese, coleslaw and onion and it makes it £5.50 extra....
