Black Horse Skipton in Craven

We visited this pub Saturday 25th Jan, me and my wife and daughter, and I must say it's the worst meal we have ever had, we ordered two all day breakfasts with really poor bacon and cheap supermarket sausages, the eggs weren't cooked and the mushrooms were the worst I've ever seen, my wife and daughter both had chicken curry, with only two small pieces of chicken in the bowls , the papodum wasent even cooked and had to be replaced, my coffee was devoid of any coffee and tasted terrible, on top of that we had to wait 25 min for it to arrive, and we were charged £54 for this crap , SO I WOULD ADVISE ANYONE READING THIS REVIEW TO AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS ,

Food availability limited 3 choices not available service slow , have had better at this pub.

Great place for a drink and dinner whilst watching the match as lots of screens and booths to sit in with a screen. Reasonably priced food with good choice

Popped in boxing day, staff friendly, order friendly via the app, quick service, food was good value for money.

Typical chain pub. The barmaid who served us first was really pleasant. But unfortunately the next member of staff was rude. No pleasantries and was more bothered about drinking his red bull!

Freezing cold evening, in the top bar, no fire on, bouncers refused to close main door! Said they needed to keep it open so people could enter and leave! Bar almost empty, no one entering or leaving!!! Freezing cold - so we left!!!!!!

Came in on Sunday 1st December. Was very very busy - could see the staff were struggling but everybody put on a brave face and did a fantastic job. Took a little longer than normal to get our food but was to be expected with how busy it was. Food was very good for the price. Can only imagine would be better at quieter periods . All in all, great service and staff done very well under pressure

Avoid No cask ale on at all toilets not working /closed Front bar closed Not given correct/ ordered drink. It’s skipton Christmas markets and this place just does not give a dam. Go to the wolly sheep or castle real pubs for real people. The owners and management of the Blackhorse should be ashamed your letting skipton and Yorkshire pubs down.

What can I say other than amazing. Me and my wife chose the black horse as our reception for after our wedding. The staff were absolutely amazing setting up all the decorations and personalising the whole section for just us. When we arrived they were again amazing with asking us if we needed anything and delivering an impeccable service with food and even providing us extra items to make our wedding day even more amazing. We want to thank Marc and his whole team for making our special day even more special. Mr and Mrs Hulse.

Why is there never any toilet roll in this pub.

A bit of a tardis loads of room inside could do with more real ales 🍺 Has a nice out side area overlooking the canal

Traditional aesthetic, easy to place orders and especially enjoyable during the summer months. Food and drink were also adequately priced and the service was great.

Food was amazing had a turkey roast dinner and nice cool drink of coke. The potato's was hard to cut and chew. The turkey was lovely and seasoned.

Great service & quick, good for families. My child loves the food options & he is a very fussy Eater

Nice looking pub . Returned after a previous disappointing Visit . This time four meals all very good service quick and polite. Everything clean . To owner good turn around.

Went to the bar. Someone saw me and walked away. 10 minutes later nobody came back to serve. Another customer found someone and he got served but the barmaid said she had to go downstairs to get more diet coke and she disappeared again. After more than 15 minutes we walked out and went to the castle inn. Miles better customer service.

Went here for my partners birthday. The service was great and the food delicious. My partner had Coq o van, which was absolutely gorgeous.

Chloes was very rude and ill mannered

Staff is friendly but not very professional. Food was OK but improvable. Portions are not made for hungry persons. Price could be lower compared to size of portions.

A little slow in the service,it was a funeral lunch,the bar service was slow,lots queuing as if there was not many staff,and the lunch was slow in service too,I presume that there was a staff shortage,they did there best,

Really nice pub with friendly, polite staff. Great menu and good drinks menu. Dog friendly and welcoming. Definitely would recommend this place.

Dropped in here while a load of us were out on the lash ,decent beers and lagers, we all had a bite to eat to line our stomachs, no complaints from any of the 15 of us. Oh it was Saturday afternoon skysports was on the big screen. Which was OK for us

4 oct 2024 .Mixed grill ruined by cheap cut gammon and steak. Couldn't cut thru steak with steak knife let alone chew it. Left it, complained but all i got was an offer of a free sweet. They obviously buy cheap meat because i couldn't fault the rest of it cooked by the female chefs. Needless to say - give it a wide berth in future.

Was taken back at how long the pub was. There is plenty of seating. Cheap tasty food and friendly staff

Terrible food, poor service. Putting Skipton to shame

Super friendly staff and yummy food! We popped in with our 18m old baby for lunch on Friday, the girl who served us was fantastic, she was serving another customer yet acknowledged us the second we rocked up to the bar and she took our order and brought our food taking time to fuss over the baby which is always appreciated when toting a baby. To be fair all the staff were great and there's a good vibe as you walk through the pub. Food is yummy, we had lunchtime deal wraps with chips, the baby had fish fingers n mash. I love that the condiments come in full size bottles in a little wooden carrier and not those fiddly sachets. Nice pint of Cruzcampo too. We will be back next time we're coming back from the dales!

Weather was nice sat out overlooking canal.

Popped in for lunch and Sarah (Manager) advised on food and it was great advice. Steak was superb and Jacket Potato too. Super service and value for money.

Called in here last week nice big pub outside seating over looking the canal and the barges lovley decor in side and comfortable to sit at the tables nice and clean too didnt have food but definitely recommend this lovley pub in skipton

Came here for a bite to eat, was told it would be a slight delay for food. 45 minutes later made a polite enquiry only for the bar staff to tell me it would be another hour and it is what it is. When i enquired about why i was not told it was a two hour wait was immediately given a refund by cash even though i paid card!! Then effectively told to leave!! Absolutely disgusting behaviour, the staff were saying it’s the owners as they do not staff it properly, I suggest look closer to your own behaviour!!! Loads of people were leaving at same time so I suggest the owners look at staff as they are clearly out of their depth!!!

Called in for a meal lunch time. The food portions large for the litebites but could not fault quality. Really good value

Visiting Skipton, we decided to pop in for a meal. Very big pub. Ordered lunch. Can say that the food was amazing 👏. The young girl who came over to speak to us was so canny and welcoming. Sorry we didn't get her name but she said she had only worked there for a couple of months. Will definitely visit again when we are in the area. Thank you 😊

A wonderful pub and lovely atmosphere!

Always come for drinks. If weather is nice can sit outside. Good place to watch sports also. Food prices are good too. Can order via the app. Place has a pool table and nice atmosphere.

Decided to go here for a light lunch. We had a shared platter, and it was lovely. The atmosphere was good inside. Enjoyed it very much

A very long pub! Lots of places to sit and two areas to sit outside which is great in the warmer weather. A bit of a cross between an old feel pub in the front and a more modern bar at the back. Lovely terrace at the back overlooking the canal. Just something seemed to be lacking but can't quite say what other than it wasn't one style of pub or another.

Great pub with excellent facilities. The food and drinks are very reasonably priced and the meals we had were very enjoyable. Friendly staff just added to the experience.

Great venue for our works xmas event

Happy birthday Sammy 21st OK pub , back bar only open, top bar closed thats where the real ale was but staff went and got drinks for us thank you. Toilets ok , pub ok , drink choice good, outside seating area great. Dj absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!!! A good place to visit

We stopped in for a late dinner and we're pleasantly surprised. Really good food with options for each of our tastes. Really friendly staff and a really nice melliw atmosphere which meant we stayed for some extra after dinner drinks. Well worth visiting if you are in Skipton.

Great atmosphere for the England football game

It's been a while since we've been into the black horse for food. we just popped in to kill an hour or so, have a drink and a bite to eat. Menu has completely changed, and for the better. Food was excellent, staff were good. The place was clean. Many tables have a small screen for sports. There's a garden at the back over looking the canal. We ordered using the app, next time I'd probably just order at the bar. The app was fine, but drinks didn't come very fast. Well worth a visit, we will be back.

Surprisingly spacious pub. Reminds you of the tardis. Not a great selection of cask ales, and only available at one bar. Could do with a vacuum in the nooks & crannies. Deck area right on the canal with great views.

I only went there because of the car show outside. It was busy, but the staff were lacklustre, tired and slow. No smiles, no joy.

Called here for lunch, having not been before, and we were beyond pleasantly surprised by the quality of food. We ordered the chicken burgers with fries and upgraded drinks, which was an extremely great deal. The burgers were absolutely delicious, so tasty, the best we've had!! The portion sizes are just right. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly. Excellent service would highly recommend, and we will definitely be back.

Absolutely disgusting pub no manners no cleaner no clue don't like how rude the staff are and how they treat people I've been to a few bars in Skipton and by far the black horse was the worst dirtiest place there a big let down for Skipton town

My dad was thrown out of here elderly man not a bad bone his body,he was given a fake note in his change then went to bar for another drink and was grabbed and chucked out, this is not the first time this has happened as I witnessed an elderly woman had the same treatment the week before if this is how you treat people I don't know how your still open passing fake notes to customers is a crime I'm disgusted in the way you treated him and would not recommend this pub to anyone

Went to get another drink about 8.30 pm and I was not impressed with the service as there were only 3 staff which I could see, one person behind the bar another cleaning tables and another had been told by the person in charger to showing people to a party so we left.

Nice spot out the back for a drink, bit of a pain only taking cards.

Beautiful ,tucked away spot, overlooking the canal (terrace tables) and some of the town's beautiful buildings. Delicious burgers, great beer, and amazing staff! Definitely worth coming :)

Came on a Sunday of all days, fantastic service from Isabelle who served us from behind the bar. Will definitely be returning, would highly recommend.

Great local countryside pub with typical pub food menu, kids menu, local beers and ales as well as showing sports on tv. Good portion sizes, parking immediately outside and vast space available inside the venue as well as some garden spaces (partially covered). Visited on Easter Saturday.

Lovely friendly pub and well worth a visit.

A lovely pub which me and the family like to visit whenever in Skipton. Today was the first time visiting on a Saturday and the blonde lady at the bar was quite rude, she gave us one wrong sized drink and seemed annoyed when we ordered food. Overall a good pub but some of the weekend staff need some customer service training.

The Blackhorse is a lovely, relaxing public house with friendly staff. My family and I all enjoyed our food, and I would highly recommend anyone to go when visiting Skipton.

A nice meal at good prices. Chicken, bacon and cheese melt with chips and peas. Very tasty and quick service

We have been here before and enjoyed the food so much we decided to visit again. The burgers here are so good! The service was great and the staff very friendly. They have good deals on their burgers menu and light sides that you can add a drink for a low cost so its very budget friendly and we always leave feeling full. The chicken and chorizo croquettes were amazing, i could personally eat about 50 of them. It's a cosy and relaxed atmosphere and we will surely be back when we next visit skipton.

Great bar service and ordering with a really friendly young man taking our order. Lovely meal but not impressed when our starter is brought to the table with our main course I queried this but the young waitress shrugged her shoulders and said it wasnt put down as a starter. On the menu card it states STARTER.Retraining in order I believe.

We regularly visit Skipton but we'd never been in the Blackhorse. We really fancied a bit of classic pub grub this day and it hit the spot. Will deffo be going again. Also a bonus that we were able to take the dog in!

No service what so ever! No wonder it was empty! We went because I used to go here years ago. But I won't go back On a positive the food was good

Great service overall. Several gluten free options. Friendly, attentive service. Can get a little loud between 8-10 due to shared bar/eating area so if dining, book an earlier reservation if you'd like a quiet evening. Edit: I meant to give 5 stars, apologies!

The pub from the outside doesn't seem like the food would be as good as it was. Just your typical looking pub, nothing bad. But we ordered and the food went beyond our expectations. We just wanted something quick, cheap and easy as we were both hungry and thought this would do the job. The burgers were both so tender and full of flavour, the chips were perfectly done. The portion sizes were perfect and we left full and satisfied. The prices are excellent as they have a deal on weekdays on the light bites and burgers that you get a free drink. Theres a small selection and you can upgrade for a small fee if what you want isn't included. Our bill was just over 22 pounds for both meals and two strongbow darkfruits. We enjoyed our visit and would definetly eat here again.

Drove to get here, half the pub shut 2 hours before closing time on Google. Couldn't use the pool table. Would have been nice to know. Staff were lovely about it tho. Reply to owner: It's cool, I'm just making people aware who are travelling to get there that they won't be able to play pool and save them the journey and petrol if that's what they were expecting as it's not advertised anywhere. I wanted to play pool with a friend, I knew the pub had a pool table, I didn't know we wouldn't be able to use it, I wasted 40 minutes driving there and back.

We came to the Black Horse yesterday for a few drinks and some food the food was amazing we loved it we definately will be returning. The chef did a great job with the food, the staff were great with service and the atmosphere was good.

We like this place and keep coming back it's a TARDIS of a place a lot bigger than you first think, drinks food and staff good, the 5 small plates to share on a weekend are great for a table to share with your own TV with sports if that's what you like, we will be back soon

I was here with my family on holiday for some lunch. The food was fantastic and the ease of ordering on the app made it even better so happily give the food 4 star. The atmosphere was great especially with the cob webs added for halloweeen. However was brought down by the yelling from the kitchen and 1 of 2 servers being rather grumpy.

Been a few times and food always been spot on Tonight we got the weekend deal 5 small plates for £11-99 as a mixed starter Plus our mains wow excellent value is that weekend deal that alone would.have done us 3 , But it was that nice we polished it all off plus puddings . Staff Service n food all 5* See you again pretty soon
