Black Horse Pub/Restaurant in King's Lynn and West Norfolk

recomended to me by my brother wow what a find great friendly people delish well kept pint of inches cider the americana burger was amazing nice to get a burger not over done and dry could not resist a desert went for banna split sundae awesome finish to a great experience

Went for dinner whilst staying in the area. Was very busy for a Thursday night outside of the school holidays. Good selection of food and beers. Settled for the Seafood Tagliatelle which was very tasty and a decent sized portion, washed down with a very quaffable Hogs Back Brewery 'Tongham Tea'. A bit of a wait for the food but it was very busy when we got there - definitely book in advance to ensure a table, especially if you have your four legged friend with you.

Been tonight and had a lovely meal sat in the bar area with our two dogs. Nice friendly staff and the food was proper home cooked food! Had the sausage and mash and was so tasty. Another of us had the pork chop and It was huge! Lovely dog friendly pub with nice beer and great food. Decent car park outsid too

The food served here is terrible, would not recommend this place to anyone. Calamari starter was terrible, five small pieces of soggy calamari that were clearly from frozen.. priced at £8! Our mains followed a similar pattern, tasteless, underwhelming and definitely not fresh as advertised. Service was below average, staff seemed unbothered. Such a shame as the venue is lovely. We really aren’t difficult to please and don’t have an issue with higher prices when the quality reflects. Not sure how they are managing to justify their prices with such shocking quality! Won’t return.

I visited with friends who live close by. Starters were okay but nothing spectacular. My main meal was fish and chips as there was nothing else on the menu that appealed to me. I was expecting a decent piece of fish and thick chips as stated on the menu. “Battered haddock, thick chips, minted mushy peas, tartar sauce & lemon wedge d,f £11/17 “. Wish I had taken a photo because the fish was so thin, there was barely any flesh on it and the chips were like frozen oven chips and definitely not freshly cooked thick chips, the mushy peas were awful and very sweet. My fish tasted odd and not very fresh, my partner tried it and said “It’s not the freshest fish I have ever tasted”. I eventually got the attention of a member of staff and said to him that the fish tasted slightly odd and I didn’t want to risk eating it (as I have in the past had a very bad reaction (histamine toxicity) to seafood that is not fresh and I have been very ill and hospitalised). The staff response was a nonchalant “oh” he then walked away and didn’t even take my plate of food away. I was astonished! The people I was with said their food was okay but again nothing special. I am not the kind of person to make a fuss but honestly speaking I would never eat at this restaurant again.

Could not fault this place. Glorious evening so sat outside to dine. Food well presented & adequate sized portions, reasonably priced.Obliging with special dietary requests. Would not hesitate to return.

Tables were sticky even the menu stuck to it. The meal was so so nothing special. Did expect more than normal chips . Never got asked by staff how our meal was or if we needed any more drinks .

This is the third time in the last month that the food has been under par. The restaurant was not full but we had to wait 50 minutes for our starter and had a long wait for the main course. I ordered Seafood Tagliatelle which sounded delicious. Unfortunately it was awful, the tagliatelle had been cut up into small pieces and it appeared more like tomato soup with a few mussels added. Too late to even think about a dessert. The 'manager' was f-ing out loud to himself about how busy they were!! When I asked for the bill he just looked at me without answering. 15 minutes later we went to the bar to ask for the bill and pay. Time to leave it until another manager and chef arrive.

Came to the black horse for a meal with my friend I had the ploughman’s sharer and it’s was lovely I would give it 7-10 only as roll wasn’t that fresh and a bit stale but everything else was spot on My friend had the Mushroom carbonara it was a bit flavourless and so had to add salt to improve taste was a bit bland and not many mushrooms could do with a bit more flavour Food was reasonably priced but a Malibu and coke and 330ml of Heineken alcohol free lager was just over £11 thought this was a bit pricey My only real complaint is the staffing I thought the way the manager spoke to the young lad was rude and the lady with dark hair was also rude to this young lad and was near on bullying Having run and worked in pubs myself please train your staff before they come to work and teach them correctly A bar manger would be a good idea for this pub I will be back as food was very good

Just had Saturday lunch at the Black Horse. We chose the Seafood Platter for two which was plentiful and good value. Great atmosphere today, plenty of bookings taken. Staff friendly especially Amy (owner). Really lovely to see this beautiful pub open and busy again We'll be back! Thank you

The burgers were Burnt from a BBQ cooked by the manager/owner (I think) The drink prices were greatly inflated from normal prices I guess to cover the cost of the singer, who was good. One out of three not bad!!

The welcome wasn’t the best, no wait here to be seated etc but it was very busy - we saw a women with a clipboard so we approached her. We we seated and drinks taken. Food order taken soon after. The food came quickly and was fantastic!!! The staff were attentive and friendly. Price was much better than expected. Would definitely visit again and urge others too!!

We were staying at Sandringham CAMC site and learnt that this pub had been refurbished. We pooped along and I have to say had a lovely meal, albeit scampi and chips. The staff were very friendly, lovely decor and terrific value. Will defo return. Would recommend this old style pub, terrific ales.

Absolutely lovely 3 course Mother’s Day meal. Couldn’t fault it and the service was excellent too. Son ate from the childrens menu and he was happy too.

Very pleasant meal with good service and good food. Fairly small menu but plenty of choice for midweek in March. Fish was well presented but had quite a strong odour. All well presented.

What a lovely Place this is, set in a lovely area, lovely views and walks around the Pub itself, Pub itself is a lovely typical old fashioned looking place inside, with a modern twist. Staff were really friendly and helpful, as it was lunch time we just chose light options, one of the best Fish Finger sandwiches I've had, Everything we had was of a great quality, and very impressive size portion's. Will definitely, later in the year when back up here, be going back to this hidden little gem, and going back for a Night Time meal here. Highly Recommended

Met a business acquaintance for early beers and supper. Know this place from years ago and it had lost its way but new owners are clearly going to put this back in the map, Right balance of real country pub and good dining. After some excellent well kept beer at the bar, a superb “special” of smoked haddock, mash Hollandaise and perfect poached egg followed by crumble - comfort food heaven. Friendly service. Will be back.

We booked here for a family celebration Sunday Lunch, 23 of us. The experience was excellent from calling in to make the booking to the actual event. Everything went very smoothly, the team were so very helpful but not intrusive , food delicious & piping hot. Nothing was too much trouble.

Amazing food, atmosphere and friendly staff. We all chose something different, all meals perfectly cooked and presented. My son is difficult to please, however, he said it was the best dining experience he has had for a long time. Portions ample, sadly no room left for dessert. We will definitely be returning.

A nice pub, cosy, fires, leather sofas etc gives it a welcoming vibe. Had to mix my ales as first choice was told was finished, second choice made, returned for second beer and told vice versa! Table of 2 with my partner and 2 courses each. Price was very reasonable and the quality of the food didn’t disappoint. My only regret is not saving myself for some dessert. The decor was traditional but felt warm and inviting as were the landlords Jon and Amy, who did and excellent job of making us feel welcome and looked after. It was nice to see the owners of a pub leading from the front for a change. I will be dining again in future and looking forward to warmer weather when I can enjoy the garden and the surrounding views.

Beautiful setting, food didn't disappoint. Amazing food. We went back on Saturday with Mum, it was perfect both days staff were all really friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the area. I would highly recommend, if you are alone, couples friends or family it has it all. Dog friendly in the bar area. I can't wait to visit again. It's also only 7mins drive from the hospital so made it a perfect way to have a break from visiting. Service was really good everything took the right amount of time. Prompt but not rushed. Cannot fault anything.

Booked for Sunday lunch for a much needed break from cooking. Really warm welcome on arrival and a really lovely pub. Wine was expensive but well kept. We had a calamari starter which was fine and both ordered turkey roasts. The dinners were hugely disappointing and mine was covered in garlic. Turkey was good but very small portions and Yorkshire puddings were good. Roast potatoes were dreadful as was the stuffing. Veg would have been nice if it wasn’t for the garlic so ended up leaving them. Let them know that we were disappointed and our drinks were taken from the bill but we had gone for the food so that wasn’t a compensation. Waitress was lovely.
