Black Horse Food Emporium in Hyndburn

We called in here today on the off chance that they had a free table for lunch. The lady that greeted us was lovely and found us a table straight away, bringing us menus and the special boards and took our drinks order while we chose. The inside is lively and clean and well presented. There was no feeling of being rushed at any point. My partner ordered a club sandwich and a coffee and I ordered a sweet chilli wrap and a Diet Coke. We didn’t have to wait long, while the food was cooked freshly for us. The portions were huge and so well presented. It was absolutely delicious, the chef came out and asked if everything was ok, it was more than ok! It was fantastic. The total bill came to just £18. We will definitely return here and highly recommend. Thank you for your hospitality, great staff food. A gem of a place.

Such a disappointment. Friendly staff took my drink order asked me to wait awhile before she could take my breakfast order. Then some 10 mins later informed me there was no bacon 🥓 ( What's the point in going out for breakfast without bacon?) So I paid and left

The Black Horse Food Emporium is a wonderful place to visit. The menu is always changing with daily specials and the food is delicious. I’ve visited many times and the food and service are excellent. You are always made to feel welcome and if you have any questions about the food the staff are extremely knowledgeable.

Went in for some lunch. we both had soup and sandwich. the soup was delicious! they give you plenty too 😁 my husband got Lancashire cheese and chutney sandwich and I asked if I could have cheddar as don't like Lancashire cheese. this was no problem at all. Great place and lovely people running it. highly recommend!! we're will be back!!!

Me and my partner went for lunch, my dear lady was hell bent on soup, I'm not a soup fan, however here a soup of the day and sandwich of your choice was very very tasty, well worth popping in for breakfast or lunch if in the area.

I was visiting my daughter and decided to treat her to breakfast. I looked on Trip Advisor and this place came up, so we decided to walk with her little cocker spaniel, it was raining heavily and when we arrived we were all wet and feeling a bit soggy but we received a lovely welcome. We had the full English, yes a bit pricey and not the best we have had, although it was tasty and enjoyable, we have had nicer. But it’s the lovely friendly atmosphere that made the morning for us, we met some fabulous people who are regulars and welcomed us with a smile and lovely conversation, the staff were also lovely, friendly but professional. We enjoyed it so much we went back later the same day for a pot of tea and cake (which was amazing). My daughter is new to the area but said she felt that comfortable and welcome that she will visit on her own. Well done 👏

The Black Horse Emporium is my favourite place to stop for a coffee, snack or main meal. They cater for all tastes with a good menu mix and customers as well as pets (dogs) are made very welcome. The food is of the highest quality and the staff are friendly and conversational. I have been back on numerous occasions and never been disappointed.

You are in for a great time when you visit Black Horse Food Emporium. From a quick cup of coffee to a fabulous Thursday evening special you are treated as a valued customer. The staff are friendly and professional, helpful and in Cliffs case entertaining. He has a chat with you and is so knowledgeable about where he resources his produce. The food is freshly prepared and attractively presented. Value for money is the Thursday evening tea time special £9.95 for 2 courses. Don’t just take my word for it give The Black Horse a go. My mantra is eat local produce and support local businesses.

Not many places can you have 3 courses plus coffee (2 actually) and get change from £20. Super deal on a Thursday evening 2 courses for less than a tenner, 3 for £12.50. Even take your own alcohol if you wish although the coffee was fabulous. Plenty of specials but a good small menu of quality meals. The menu changes weekly so great place for a weekly catch up with friends. I had a salad platter and then lamb in mint gravy followed by an ice cream sundae for £12.50. Talk about value for money. The salad had sliced meats, pate, real butter, super pickles, fresh salad and was beautifully presented. The main meal wasn't a huge portion but perfect in my opinion and I have a decent appetite. (I hate feeling overstuffed or leaving food) followed by a large ice cream sundae. Cosy atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great service. Great quality food. I'll be back. Book a Thursday quick because what a deal.

We dined here for lunch earlier last month. The food was nice but it's pricey in my opinion. Cost the best part of £8 for what was basically a very small toastie and a glass of water. There a better places in town in terms of value for money.

Went with family on a Saturday. Was a last minute booking. Very welcoming considering lunch time on Saturday as well. I ordered a beef baguette with salad. Plenty of healthy stuff. Beef nicely cooked to combined well with crispy baguette. All arrived quickly.

We used to always buy takeout bacon/sausage sandwiches - now they've changed their menu and are trying to charge nearly £5 for x1 sandwich!!! Unfortunately won't be buying again from Black Horse.

The food is good and wholesome made fresh daily. Good place for couples and friends. Hot drinks avaliable.

Best tasting breakfast in town. Expensive compared to some of the competition. However, sometimes you don't mind paying a few pound extra for that extra quality. Highly recommend.

Visited managed to park easily on Warner St and were able to get a table without a problem at 12.45pm. We both ordered soup and a sandwich (mine ham & mustard, hubby had roast beef and horseradish) both came with mushroom soup. I had a pot of tea and hubby had a flat white. Service and food was faultless and for approx £16 good value. There is a small deli if you wanted to purchase any bread or meats.

Went to have launch with my daughter and granddaughter. Really good food, staff helpful, pleasant, I, we was not disappointed with the service we got. If you try it I think you will agree with me.

A nice place to have lunch in Accrington on a Saturday. Very busy as obviously popular, but still managed to squeeze us in. A good place to enjoy typical Lancashire fayre.

We pre-booked a table for 2at 12 noon today. We arrived to find our table was reserved with our name. We chose from the menu, I had to be back at work before 1pm. We ordered and our drinks were brought to our table swiftly. We didn't have to wait long for our food to arrive, when it did it looked tasty. It lived up to it's looks. It was delicious. We had turkey burgers, jacket potato, salsa and side salad and beef and cheese melt on granary with side salad and homemade coleslaw. We throughly enjoyed it. Lunch was a lovely meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Looking forward to going again soon.

This is my first visit here although my partner has been a couple of times. We had a friend and had some business in Abbey St so decided to lunch at the emporium. We were not wrong. Good food and service, great coffee were enjoyed by the 3 of us all for under £10 a head. A certainty to return,

The first time we visited the Black Horse was on a Saturday afternoon approximately a year ago. It was 3:10pm and the closing time on the door was 4pm. We walked in and someone asked us if they can help us. We said we would like to order 2 coffees. They said oh, sorry, we’ve already cleaned our espresso machine. We left, disappointed.

There are sandwiches, cakes, pasties etc. I didn't have a hot meal but I think there are some hot foods. There is a wide range of excellent confectionery and a butchers shop on the premises! The food is produced on the premises and the cake are great.

My husband and I decided to make a long awaited visit to the Black Horse. The service, and food were excellent and would thoroughly recommend this establishment.

Had an afternoon tea here and although it was very tasty, there wasn't much for your money. The really good part was we could change the scone for any cake at no extra cost. I can heartily recommend the carrot cake, best I've ever tasted.

En mi última visita que pedimos una taza de té, un café con leche y un pastel para cada uno. Después de un corto tiempo, mi pastel llegó en la porción diagonal más extraños que he visto y un bollo de mi pareja venía con más de la mitad inferior que falta. ",. . . Sí, claro.. Nunca supe de Fagin tenía una esposa. Después señalando el error, falta el bollo destrozado con trozo fue re-sirve para nosotros! . Quizás la chica que servía era tener un día en un establecimiento agradable, pero el servicio al cliente se encontró que quieran si lo que más me impresionó fue el estar "corto". recubiertos Aún así, el lugar tiene calidad y platos de un ambiente relajado. We thought this was still a pub so was pleasantly surprised to find it had been converted into a Deli, selling a wide range of products all sourced locally and a good menu choice, mostly healthy options and sandwiches. An ideal place for a lunch time visit or for cake and coffee when shopping in Accrington. We have visited twice now, the first time was quiet the second time very busy so it may be advisable to book a table to avoid disappointment, depending on what time you visit. The only negative was that when it was busy, we had to wait a considerable time for both food and drinks. There is not a licence to sell alcohol so don't be disappointed if you normally have a drink with your food!

Popped in for lunch. Ordered two hot sandwhichs and a can of coke. £9.90!! Couldnt believe it.When i finally got my order i was hoping for the best butties of my life - dissapointed. Portions are tiny, even more so considering the price paid. They tasted ok but beef on my minute steak was overdone and onions underdone. Wont be going back!

Enjoyed a lovely homemade soup and sandwiches. The bread was great. Nice quiet atmosphere with great food. The shop is well worth a visit too.

Called at the Black Horse food Emporium quite by chance, and was surprised as on my previous visit some years ago it was a public house.The staff are very welcoming, and although the menu is very limited, the food was very nice.We both had minute steak on ciabatta which came with a small salad, ramekin of coleslaw and crisps.I had espresso, with my son plumping for a can of coke.Has the slight feel of a time past, but we felt that this was nice.

Great lunch, staff really friendly and food delicious as always. I even reserved the table very last minute and they are so accommodating.

What a fantasic find the Black Horse in Accrington is - friendly staff and the food was excellent quality and great value. We had the salad of the day: Lancashire cheese, bacon and black pudding which was fab. We'll definitely be calling in again here when we're back in town :)

Been here several times now when visiting family up North and the food and service is always excellent. Just needed to congratulate them on excellent customer service this time around! A small mix up in the order, with no complaints from us, resulted in staff visiting our table to apologise and offer free drinks or a little something to take home with us. If only every establishment gave customer service like this! Staff, as always, were friendly and courteous and we will definitely go there for Saturday breakfast at our next visit to family. Must also mention the fantastic range of meats, cheeses, breads etc on sale to take home. A true gem of a place for coffee and breakfast/lunch.

Great if you are on a diet, they do delicious slimming world/ weight watchers type meals. Also excellent choices if you want do not wish to be as healthy. Excellent service too. Good value for money.

Been a few times now and have thoroughly enjoyed it every time. The food is delicious and very fresh. Absolutely love the fact that I can get sparkling sarsaparilla which takes me back to my childhood. Well worth a visit.

Highly recommend this place, I visited for the first time last week with a few friends. The food was fabulous & reasonably priced. Myself and another friend took our children who are both still in prams. The waitress could not have been more helpful- moving chairs & stools so that the prams were near. Excellent, clean baby changing facilities,they even provide nappy sacks!!!!! Will be returning-thank you.

I just love this place. Friendly service and delicious homemade food. And cakes. What more can you want? We even got some takeaway cheesecake for later. A fab deli, cafe and coffee place.

Dropped in as passing for afternoon tea. We didn't have a reservation and it was quite busy, however the staff were extremely friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us with a table. The food was lovely and fresh, made to order and the staff we wonderful. Great place.

This is my favourite place to eat and meet up with friends in Accrington. I often visit for breakfast which is excellent, always hot,well presented and tasty.The staff are always pleasant and friendly and the service is very efficient.Lovely selection of homemade cakes too.

I am always going to visit The Black Horse at least once a week. I feel a valued customer and really welcome by the truly first class staff. Coffee , the best in town, food, always a good selection and always fresh. A bonus is the excellent Delicatessen with the special low calorie foods. The low fat sausages are brilliant. Keep up the good work.

The staff and service are excellent. The shop is worth a visit too. Breakfasts are excellent - and you can even buy the ingredients to take home and make your own! Cakes in the afternoon are great value with a free drink, and a good range to choose from.

Came here for our lunch at the weekend, Food was fresh and hot, myself and my partner got cheese and onion pie , beans and wedges, only got 3 wedges, they must of thought they was feeding kids not grown adults, still Hungary, so had to buy something else once we left the shop, but apart from that really friendly staff and good service.

Lovely interior, nice and intimate. Butchers shop within area selling lots of different sausages and good quality meat. The butcher gave lots of information and recommendations. The cafe staff were helpful and attentive. Nice selection of cakes.

Then at a very reasonable price we had afternoon tea with a difference 'sticky sausage sandwich and BLT sandwich very different for an afternoon tea but so good. Having experienced life here when it was a pub, I was delighted, eventually, to return and see what the new set-up was like. I was very impressed!Good overall menu plus specials board, helpful staff and as I said above, a great lunch.

Called in for breakfast whilst up north visiting family. Excellent food, friendly helpful staff and would recommend a visit anytime you're passing through! We previously tried their sausages and other fares from Ye Olde Sausage shop at Oswaldtwistle Mills which were brilliant but have now agreed to preorder from the shop next time we visit.

The food here is always wonderful, and the selection surprisingly varied. The soups are always thick, filling and tasty and the deli boards are filled with gorgeous selections of meats, cheeses and breads.The new afternoon tea is a great deal, and fantastic for sharing.The staff are always friendly and attentive, and it's always a bonus when they bring round samples of recipes or a new item they are testing.I have never had a bad experience, and come back time and time again.

Not the kind of place you'd expect to get or see in Accrington, it would fit in better in the Ribble Valley or Clitheroe, but I'm glad it has stayed local. There's an excellent deli counter and shop section as well. Friendly service and staff who can't do enough for you. Highly recommended.Take away or eat in, you won't be disappointed.

Every time I'm over here visiting my grandparents, we make a point to go here more than twice!!! absolutely marvellous food! A must visit!

What a great find. The menu is small but the special board makes up for it. We tried the platters and have to say we were pleased with what we received. The artisan bread is fantastic. We also had a red pepper and chorizo soup which was delightful and very tasty. We will certainly be back

As always, the food at The Black Horse Food Emporium was delicious and plentiful, in fact we had to ask for a box to put half the homemade chocolate cake in as it was so big.They offer a reasonable range of sandwiches and delicious soups as well as some excellent deli platters. The cakes are lovely and an afternoon tea is simple but tasty and reasonable value for money.A great place for lunch.

I popped in here today initially thinking this was a pub. There was an assortment of preserves, condiments and the like, along with meat, bread and some very nice cheeses. A good selection of pasta lined the shelves, along with some fanciful bottled beverages.A great shop for a treat or two for sure. No hassle from staff as I had a good nose around the wares, but helpful if needed.

Love the slimmers choice meals and you can buy them fresh from the counter too. Staff happy to make to your request as well. A little expensive but you get what you pay for.

i went here with my daughter 3 weeks ago the only real place in accrington to get healthy good foodwe both had the famous turkey burgers and no fat at all mixed with herbs and spices to capture a black horse experience, good service very nice people work there nice cup of tea when feeling depressed in accy get to the black horse and ride away!

We love this friendly, family run business. I tend to visit at weekends when it's busy but I always find the staff friendly and welcoming. There is a good choice of food catering to a range of dietary requirements and I've always found staff will 'go the extra mile' to make sure customers are happy with their orders. Highly recommended.

This was my first visit to black horse food emporium, we were welcomed with open arms by kathleen the owner, can't understand some peoples negative points on here, we only had 2 coffees and a piece of the delicious guiness and chocolate cake with cream which was fantastic, kathleen was very nice and attentive and couldn't do enough for us, we would definitely recommend to our friends and family and will definitely be going again in the near future. the place is spotlessly clean and well done out for an old pub with original old oak bar, a very welcoming experience and much better than the corporate offerings of costa coffee, starbucks etc.

I would like to have been able to provide a positive review, god only knows Accrington could do with something positive? But unfortunately I can not do this as both my wife and I have been in the establishment on two occasions and on both occasions we have been totally ignored even when stood at the counter and staff being present, they just carried on as if we were not visible, no greeting no nothing!!!!

Black Horse is sympathetic to people watching their weight and offers tasty, healthy and inexpensive meals to enjoy and which don't leave you feeling hungry. They also sell a wide range of sausages, burgers, mince etc in their very low fat or fat free range ideal for slimmers, which are only marginally more expensive than other brands but, you get what you pay for - quality. Go and try them don't just take my word for it.

With very friendly helpful staff who always seem to have a smile on their faces, excellent food it's definitely a place to visit in Accrington. On ordering 2 expensive full English breakfasts, we found the mushrooms to be basically raw and inedible. Due to no staff to complain to we consumed the food minus the raw mushroms, complaining as we were leaving. To our utter disgust, their response was to offer us a refund of .20p for the mushroms. Out of principle we took the money offered. I felt insulted and offended not to be offered at least a complimentary drink. We were regular customers prior to this incident but would not recommend after this behaviour which can only be described as arrogance to the extreme.

Pleasant decor and atmosphere. prices not expensive but slightly higher than other places in Accrington. Polite service. Would definitely pop in again for a snack when shopping

Visited here for a quick takeaway sandwich in my lunch break. The choice was very good, the surroundings nice, staff very lovely and friendly, the choice is different and I couldn't decide for the choice on the menu. My sandwich was divine, really tasty and on a lovely artisan bread. Will definitely return.

Just been for lunch and found staff really friendly with here to help approach nothing was too much trouble for them. Hubby had a full english for £6.25 and the quality and portion size was excellent and the coffee was good. I had the hot bacon, letticue and tomato on granary with side salad £4.95 and again It was lovely who ever thinks the portion sizes are small have strange ideas. I had a tea and it was fine average price £1.50. Are the prices any higher than other local high end cafes I don't think so. Excellent overall visit.

Visited with the wife for Saturday lunch.it was ok nothing special for the prices they charge both had a hot sandwich at just under £5 each they tasted good but the sizes where small and my wifes sandwich was missing the ham she had ordered the second time we have visited and the second time they have missed something the owners are lovely but the staff are not as friendly which is disappointing all in all a nice little place but needs to improve the prices are a bit on the high size but people don't mind paying if they are getting quality and good size portions

Came for lunch and ordered a ham-cheese and onion melt. It arrived without the ham and had to ask for cutlery after food had arrived.Portions are small and prices high. Second time my order has been served wrong and the standard of food isnt great enough to draw me back.

This former pub has been converted into a quaint little cafe. The menu isn't very extensive, but what they do, they do well!Seating can be a bit cramped during the busier times, so we've learned to go just after the lunchtime rush.good value for money

After the fourth visit, we have decided it was our last. We have never once received what we ordered, despite the counter girl writing it down. It takes 10-15 minutes to get the £3 sandwich you ordered, and it's always missing something.Twice we had to go home and add what we asked for. Sort of defeats the purpose of going out for lunch. Not only that, we get attitude as well when informing them of their mistake. It really is a shame because of the beautiful building, and quality products.

You have to try this place. The atmosphere is really good, the homemade food is excellent and then you can buy fresh quality deli foods to take home. Highly recommended

Been here numerous times for lunch they serve fantastic hot and cold food super fresh, they have a butchers counter which is always full of fresh meats cheeses and also fresh breads homemade and then they also sell jams chocolates ect ect high quality must visit!

I'm a bit of a fan of a good delicatessen so I decided to pop in for a coffee too. It's a lovely place and very clean. The coffee & cakes are fantastic. The deli is excellent - try the bread as you can't beat it. I think the prices are reasonable. Well worth a visit.Also if you have a baby then it has excellent clean baby change facilities.

Whilst I can't vouch for the place as far as visiting goes, (atmosphere mark is based in the person I met as I couldn't leave it blank so...) I have sampled some of the products they sell there and spent a fair amount of time with one of the people involved in running the place.Cheese! I'm a sucker for cheese anyway, but the range and the quality of the locally produced cheese on offer is not only staggering but also delicious. :)I'm not a big one for chain coffee shops or supermarket deli counters so I look out for the nice independent, different and interesting ones and therefore expect to pay a little more. The Black Horse I think is not actually that much more really, in fact, when you take into consideration the bread is locally made artisan bread, all the meats / cheeses are locally sourced where possible as is the butter etc. and when you weigh up that you pay almost £4 for a coffee and almost £5 for a mass-produced comparatively tasteless panini in Starbucks / Costa / other chain coffee shops, it starts looking like startlingly good value for money!As for the person who said "never again", I hope you never meet your GP if they are having a one-off not so punctual / orderly appointments day. You'd be switching surgeries pretty often.Well done Black Horse on what I've sampled, I can't wait to visit in person some day soon.

We are regulars at this place. It can be a bit hit and miss sometimes. Sometimes the service is excellent other times it seems a little strained. It is only a small place and really could do with some better organised seating. There are a few round tables and stools and this can be a bit uncomfortable when your trying to have a relaxing lunch. When you get a comfy seat though its spot on. The bread is artisan and the deli selection is excellent. They do a lot of slimmers world meals. Which although good could do with a few lancashire favourites too. I feel they are trying to be a bit more up market which they certainly are but a few different hot meals would go down a treat. The childrens menu is very limited and nothing out of the ordinary mostly sandwiches. Kids could do with being treated as if was a meal out not just a regular lunch. So perhaps half sized adults meals or a couple of warm healthy options like flatbread pizzas with veggie dippers? Hint hint! The coffee is always good and they offer fitzpatricks temperance cordials which are brilliant. We go quite a lot, we always enjoy it. It is a little more expensive than your usual. But it isnt your usual. Warning you will be hard pushed to leave without something from the deli or shop. Everything is locally sourced and top quality!!

Good choice, good value and good service. Very clean and super atmosphere. Plenty to look and and browse - good all round venue.
