I used to go in regularly but since moving away I hadn't been in for around 5 years & was really looking forward to seeing the couple who run it. I walked in & the gentleman was at the counter but he didn't seem over pleased to see me like I was expecting. I was talking to him what I'd been up to and even when he had written my order down he didn't seem interested. Later the lady was having her break sitting eating at the table behind me and I was talking to her and she was so friendly and polite. When the gentleman came to have his break, he got up and went in the kitchen while I was talking without saying excuse me. I know some people look at it as being rude when you're talking to them while they're eating, but with me not seeing him for some years I felt it should of been acceptable & felt very uncomfortable. The food was lovely. I had 2 eggs, 2 slices of bacon, mushrooms, beans and 2 slices of toast, but there weren't many beans at all. I also had a cappachino. Altogether it cost £8.10 which seems a little pricey compared with other places (out of Matlock.) I can get Cod, chips & peas with bread and butter and a drink in Ripley for £6.50, £6.00 on a Wed.

The café itself is ok and fairly pleasant. However the food served left a lot to be desired. Omelette with salad. The omelette filling was mean supposed to be onion and cheese, the onion added was in little pieces with no taste at all. The salad consisted of two small pieces of wet lettuce and two slithers of a tomato equally wet. Not freshly cut. Home made chips, not chunky and very little of them. Should have been half the price for portion and lack of cuisine skills. Definitely not a place to re visit

Whilst I cannot fault the quality of the food, the lack of toilet facilities causes me a major problem. Previously when we have visited here we were able to use the toilets belonging to the pub next door. Having mobility problems and on medication , I politely asked if it would be possible to use the staff WC. This was refused and I was told to use the public toilets which were a considerable distance away. It took me a very painful 25 minute walk to go there and back.I am 85 years old, leaning heavily on a walking stick . I feel very disappointed as i have visited this fish shop many times in the past.

Really lovely food, you wouldn't know it from the outside/inside - it's like any other pub but the food was really good. Had the best dessert - rice pudding with apple and nuts - to die for.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was probably the best I've had, the meat melted in your mouth and the veg was brilliant with meaty gravy

Arrived around 10:45 am on 10/11/24 only to be informed that there was no hot food being served until 11:15 due to a take away order. Others in front of us left and we reluctantly ordered two coffees, a flapjack and a Pork Pie instead of the full cooked breakfasts we’d hoped for. We were charged twice for the Pork Pie, which we pointed out and were subsequently refunded for. We sat at a table that had the previous occupants breakfast plate on it (which was never cleared, considering the waiting on staff weren’t serving any food at the time) and waited for our coffee which did not arrive. We fetched it ourselves from the counter, at which point around 11:05, they started taking breakfast orders again. The place seemed poorly managed and why you’d turn away valued customers for a take away order is beyond me.
