Eat your heart out Rick Stein and son! The best battered fish I’ve had in years. Amazing Mackerel starter and the best battered fish for absolutely ages! Not to forget the tartar sauce - simply delicious. Apparently, chef’s name was Craig. Couldn’t even try his steak pie as it had already sold out - by 3pm! If you’ve enjoyed Whitby’s finest - (or Rick Stein’s ‘finest’), you need to try Craig’s offering here. Wow, so good. Splendid service, too. Thank you.

Wow - what a good find. On looking for somewhere for Sunday lunch we thought we’d give this traditional looking pub a try. At the rear it opens up into a quote a large dining area with table service. At the front is a traditional and characterful bar. The Sunday roasts were absolutely spot on and of very high quality. I particularly liked the honey glazed carrots - and they were great value for money. The service was excellent too and we couldn’t fault it. Would definitely recommend.

I dont usually write complaints and I did write and send an email which was not responded to but I felt I had no other option than to review after after lunch on the 14th July. Myself, husband and daughter had Sunday lunch with you and were very disappointed. The chicken and pork along with accompanying vegetables were lukewarm. The cauliflower cheese was congealed in a blob. Service was extremely slow for food and drinks, yet the place was empty. Opted for dessert. Ordered lemon meringue and a trio of ice cream. On reading back the order, no mention of the lemon meringue. I repeated that I'd like the lemon meringue only to be met with "we don't have any". Would of been nice to have been told on handing us the dessert menus. Over the years, we've visited on numerous occasions and always raved about the service and the food. On this visit, not so. We realise that the England football match was showing that evening and as a result, bookings for dinner were later and the kitchen working extended hours, but it just felt like no one cared this lunch time? No ambience either, music not even on. Such a shame, always been our go to.

Went for Sunday lunch with family, it was delicious. Three of us had roast pork, I had roast beef. It came with roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, and either Yorkshire pudding or stuffing. Also a dish of vegetables per couple including beans, mange tout, honey roast carrots and broccoli. We also ordered cauliflower cheese which was lovely and quite a large dish and a serving of pigs in blankets.. Friendly and efficient staff, we were really surprised that it wasn't very busy. We live in Burton and will certainly come again.

Decided to visit here on the way back from a walk around the area and was welcomed by their team. On this particular visit it was for Sunday lunch, and we was not disappointed! We couldn’t decide on which roast so we just had to pick the Sunday sharer which included chicken, beef and pork! We couldn’t resist not having lamb so we paid the extra. Since visiting the area we thought had to fit in a pudding, went for the sticky toffee and it is not heavy at all and you can tell that it is homemade. Bonus! We will be back

We went for the Mexican specials they were incredible. The food I would say was better than the Mexican restaurant we went to the previous weekend! I had the chicken Fajitas and the cinnamon churros and they were to die for. My friends has the beef quesadillas, which looked just as good as they tasted! The service and the atmosphere in there was really nice! Holly the young lady who served was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our evening! Dave and Freddie were great behind the bar keeping our drinks flowing! Definitely will be back to try some of the other specials

Ordered homemade steak pie & mash x 2. This meal was undoubtedly the worst meal I have ever been served, ibfact it was not edible! Remember packet ' smash' well add some butter and this is what you'll get served, along with watery peas that taste nothing like ' mushy' peas and a pie that looks OK until you crack it open and find it a third filled with a filling that resembles dog food....sorry,not true my dogs food looks better! When I asked a member of staff if it was smash ( sure she didn't know what I was talking about) she replied'..we are well known for our smash' and the pie is made from meats left over from Sunday....? today is Friday?? I refused to pay, which was accepted without argument. We left feeling sick & confused from the whole experience. Is it surprising pubs are closing nationally when they continue to serve food that's not even edible? Why would anyone want to spend their hard earned cash on food that's such poor quality and cooked to a lower standard they could cook themselves? Hardly surprising pubs like the Three Horseshoes are no longer the social hub of the village, packed to the rafters like it once was in the late 80s.

Booked last minute as we were driving through, waited a while for food but don’t mind as long as its worth waiting for, unfortunately it wasn’t, veg was hard, very small portions of food on plate , Christmas lunch consisted of 1 pigs in blanket, 2 roast potato’s , 2 average slices of turkey, stuffing and gravy, dish of veg consisted of carrots, parsnips ( cut in cubes ) and sprouts , definitely not value for money and won’t be going back anytime soon

Went with friends for a late (4pm) Sunday lunch. Started well with plenty of room in the car park. The menu was traditional but unfortunately there was no beef left. However the sharing meat platter was superbly cooked and piping hot. The vegetables were cooked al dente and when we asked for more vegetables as the portions were minute, more were brought straightaway. We only had this one course as it is quite expensive for a normal Sunday pub lunch. Out for family meal, asked the waitress a couple of questions regarding the menu, she didn't know the answers, we asked if she could find out, she never returned to tell us. One of us ordered the "special " which was a disaster on a plate. Looked like just came out of the microwave. Was inedible and was sent back. Ordered our desserts, then told 10 mins later that they were out of some that we ordered. Asked for our bill, 2 times, and sent it back 3 times as it was wrong, charging us for food and drink that we didn't order. Waitress approached our table and started to hand out drinks which we never ordered or consumed. We questioned that these are not for us and she apologised and took them to the correct table. Obviously this can happen to anyone, but it happened 3 times on that evening. A lot of work to be done at this place. We were not the only diners to complain, the table next to us waited over an hour for their mains, when it came out, it was the wrong dish, and now the kitchen had ran out of what they initially wanted. Not good!

I was wedding planner and guest for a wedding reception held at the Bit N Cherry in April 2016. I can't compliment the chef enough on the quality of the food - everyone commented on how great it was and there was a lot of love for the cheesecake! The highlight of the wedding breakfast was the personal touches made by Mike the chef - he created a sharing dessert platter for the happy couple with 'just married' wording. Everyone on the top table got a personalised dessert plate. It was a lovely surprise touch which the bride and groom loved. The food for nearly 40 guests came out promptly. Quite a feat for such a large group of people. I've been here in a smaller group as well and never been disappointed. As a vegetarian sometimes food can be bland but not here. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend for a couples night out to larger parties.

The beer was very good .Can't believe the house wine on the two steaks for £19.50 is now a british wine made from concentrate !This was not pointed out when we ordered. The house wine was Hardys some time back and very good .I realise things move on and they are trying to make a profit without losing trade but what has been done has now down graded the entire restraunt.I will go again because the food is so good but not order the house red which is a poor joke . Look to pay the extra £3.50 and get a nice bottle of wine.

A nice local pub and the food always looks nice as it goes past (we do go occasionally for drinks)But a disappointment tonight, service was good but the food portions were small ....not enough meat and no veg to be seen at allIt was a let down for a family meal although the drinks and the warmth of the pub were good the rest was a shame

Met here with my pals for a girly Sunday lunch. The food was great with a good selection. They also catered well for one of us who required gluten free food and one a vegetarian. The only downside was the fact they totalled the bill incorrectly twice, firstly giving us a bill for a different table. However they quickly apologised and the staff were helpful.

Expensive and quite a concise menu. On the evening we visited, some of the food was not available which made it even more limited and although the waitress was extremely pleasant she really didn't know what was in the food or a description if you asked questions.

This was our last meal on the last night of our visit and we LOVED it, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was great! Loved the mug shots on the walls from various musicians!

We booked the table for lunch on bank holiday monday. We had advised my father was in wheelchair, however found no easy access disabled toilets. The service generally was very poor. They were not busy, we had to get own menu's, not offered drinks and generally push for service. The food however was very tasty and enjoyed by all.

My friend and I visited Bit N Cerry at the Three Horshoes last Sunday. I didn't phone to book until that morning but after a little rearranging they were able to give is a table at a convenient time - thanks. I had the lamb roast Sunday dinner and my friend had the burger. We both enjoyed our meals very much and followed with lemon verbena panna cotta with raspberry sorbet ( which came with a rather delicious lacy chocolate thing) . Service was attentive but relaxed and we were not rushed at all. Altogether a lovely relaxing Sunday lunch.

We popped into the Shoes for the first time in years on a damp bank holiday Monday. The place was fairly busy in the dining room and we were fortunate to get the last table. The lunch menu was well thought out and very tempting. Both our food and drinks were of superb quality and very keenly priced. The restaurant was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated with a very pleasant atmosphere. Well done folks, a great effort.

Visited early on a Tuesday lunchtime, ample on site parking, although it was very quiet. The Dinning area is accessed from the pub, but, in a separate contemporary furnished room. Our server was very pleasant and helpful – the (lunchtime) menu was largely standard dishes with some modern twists. Our three mains came in good time, served piping hot and all tasted good (portions not over generous, but enough). The two puds were very good – the sticky toffee pudding with salt caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream was the highlight of the meal.We would certainly make a return visit when next in Barton-Under-Needwood.

As a vegetarian, I find it difficult to get a decent meal, other than pizza and pasta, in a restaurant. However, the food my husband and I had here was perfect. The service was good too, as was the ambience.

Met up with a couple of friends here for an early eventing meal. restaurant is nice, which is located at the rear end of the pub, with about 15 tables. I chose the Portobello Mushroom burger, which was topped with a ring of goats cheese and a handful of leaves, in a brioche bun. I did enjoy it, but the goats cheese was cut far too thick and I don't thing the leaves were needed. I'm also not too keen on brioche as a burger bun. However, staff were good and it has a nice atmosphere. I haven't given it four stars, because I wouldn't say it was 'very good'.

We liked everything - the service and the lovely young waitresses were smiling and efficient. The food was fabulous. Only complaint - we did not like the grim photographs on the wall - horrid - but they did not diminish our enjoyment of this great restaurant.

Based on our recent visit we wouldn't go again. The place was very busy although service out front was reasonably good. The two young waitresses were polite and friendly. The food however was disappointing. Starters included a camembert sharing dish which looked lovely, however the camembert was still on the cardboard disc, which in the subdued lighting was difficult to spot until chewed! Main course for my friend included still hard potatoes and my dessert of crème brulee had burnt, horrible tasting sugar on the top instead of the lovely sweet disc I expected. All in all a lot of money for a less than average meal. Looking at the other reviews maybe we were just unlucky.

Called for the Tuesday steak night. The place was full but the staff were really helpful and found us a table. The waitress was excellent. The food was very good ( we had extras, not just the deal of two steaks and a bottle of wine for £ 19.95 ). A really good evening and the sort of place we will visit again.
