Bistro Bar Med in Sefton

Always a pleasure visiting Bistro Bar Med. It is a very welcoming place and you are treated very well. Gino is a brilliant host, great sense of humour and likes to make sure everyone is having a lovely experience in there. The food is excellent, with many different choices of starters mains and deserts or also a huge choice of the best Tapas about. The restaurant is located in a great central area in Southport so perfect location to have some food before you head out for an evening. The restaurant is very cosy, makes you feel like you’re at home whilst receiving the good service. I would highly recommend it for anyone visiting Southport.

We have been visiting Bistro bar med for many years. Gino (the owner) sets a fine example for his team and is an exceptional host and cook. Highly recommended.

What can I say, the staff members, young waitress' were very helpful and kind. So this review is not aimed at them as they did a great job! Hence the 2 star. We were a large table of 15 and I think this caused the restaurant to lose its head so to speak. Food was extremely slow, we waited 2 hours for tapas to arrive, and on arrival when we asked about the long wait time. The response was that WE the customer were at fault for not pre-ordering. Of which noone was informed beforehand to do. The owner was egotistical, anyone could see that. And so took no accountability of his faults. Some of them being: rude to customers. For example he called a gentleman a little b**ch which made everyone quite uncomfortable. The owner knew he was at fault as he went and hid in the back for a good long while, unacceptable behaviour. At one point I was challenged directly about my own expertise of running a business etc as he has been quote "doing this for 44 years." If this was the case then why was everything so poor? I myself run a successful business of which customer service is paramount and would not EVER have acted as this quote on quote business owner did. On another note the food itself was tasteless and bland. Halloumi and calamari were overcooked and rubbery. The only other good thing was that one of the lovely waitress' made a nice fuss over my brother in laws birthday. I will never ever, go to this restaurant again. I do not recommend. I think the owner needs to learn how to speak to people and how to keep a brave face on when things aren't going well. Not make out the faults to the customer. Maybe then will a 5 star review come your way

My friend and I dined here on Saturday night. We were given a very warm and friendly welcome. We ordered tzatziki dip to start, 5 mezze/tapas then homemade baklava for dessert! The food was delicious and the service attentive and professional. The restaurant is so clean too :) We’ll definitely be back!

Absolutely wonderful experience at Bistro Bar Med! The service was top-notch, and the tapas, especially the hummus and tzatziki, were simply delicious. The atmosphere, truly transported me to the Mediterranean.

Stayed overnight in Southport with friends to play in golf comp , and chose Bistro Bar Med to eat as a couple of friends were vegetarian. Great decision👍 Food was delicious, great choice on menu, great friendly service, value for money🙌 Overall, great evening! Thank you guys , we will be back 🥂

The staff couldn't have done enough to make us welcomed. The food was very nice indeed but the atmosphere was leaving because the place was literally empty on a Friday evening at 6pm. Hopefully more people will give the place a go, as it thoroughly deserves supporting.

We decided to go to this place after the reviews; however, it all seemed a bit off. After being offered the draught beer, we took them up on it. Only to be told they had run out… The food was okay, but there did not seem to be much there; one of the items seemed to be a bit of tinned spam! The food was okay but did seem frozen. Maybe we visited on the wrong day however we were the only two in the whole place, we were keen to leave just due to the atmosphere and the lack of it. The downside to this was that the waiters there constantly on the back of us

My family and friends enjoyed a very special birthday spread here, the whole experience was a total joy. The staff were so welcoming and efficient and the food was delicious. Really, it just could not be bettered. They even managed to remember all our names, no mean feat when there was thirteen of us! I absolutely recommend this restaurant, it's a rare jewel that supplies a delightful and relaxed atmosphere alongside scrumptious food.

Attended a birthday lunch last Saturday.The food was excellent..and plentiful.The owner and staff were wonderful.Nothing was too much trouble.

We had an amazing experice. All the dishes we had was perfectly cooked. NIce, warm decor and great service. U can't ask for more. Will be back soon to try the rest of the menu.

Booked a table for 12 for a large family occasion. The food was fabulous and the manager was brilliant...even helping the kids pick dishes that they would like. Would definitely return.

A disappointing experience. We arrived full of expectations having read positive reviews but left feeling sad that what we had didn't live up to what others had reported. The hummus shared plate was nice with warm bread and a tasty salad. We enjoyed that. We then ordered squid, prawns, and spicy potatoes. The prawns were nice, and the potatoes good. But the squid was inedible. The coating was soft and spongy, a bit like the texture of an donut. The squid itself was strange. It was also spongy, not the usual texture. We both tried to scrape off the coating and eat a piece but we ended up leaving the rest. The waiter, a really nice bloke who was extremely friendly and welcoming, saw that we had hardly touched the squid and asked why and I explained. I didn't ask for a refund, and wasn't offered one. I paid the bill, left a 12% tip because the rest of the food was okay and the guy was pleasant. Perhaps it was because we arrived late and the place was about to close. We were the only customers in the restaurant when we arrived, during our meal, and when we left.

Went this evening four of us. What a fantastic place. Staff great. The food was fantastic, everything so tasty. Will be definitely going back.

Dined here yesterday evening I can honestly say we had a wonderful experience from the moment we were greeted at the door to the moment we left. The food was exceptional as was the service. It was so good we are returning this evening to try more of the dishes.

Showman. The food was not fresh.If you have ever tried real spanish/turkish/greek food ,you will easily understand the difference. The price was fair.I could easily pay more if the food had more flavour. You can enjoy the good service/owner effort to make you feel comfortable.

Fabulous! Came here with some friends and it was a lovely experience from start to finish, great atmosphere and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend. The only issue i have is I can't buy the turkish delight by the bucket I would go back just for that.

Disappointing after all the wonderful reviews. We found it expensive for what it was - a few dips for £25 with not enough bread to dip in and when we asked for extra bread we realised they'd charged it on the bill. We also found the service fussy to the point of different waiters hoovering the table with a mini hoover twice immediately after each other. the main courses were tasty enough but the sauce swamped the few pieces of meat. If you're looking for value for money I'd try somewhere else.

Booked last minute for early evening. Arrived and table ready with glasses of iced water. Service was so friendly and relaxed and the food was amazing, Ate far too much as it was all so good. Would definitely recommend if you like good food in a lovely atmosphere.

Absolutely the best experience I have legitimately had EVER eating out. I'm from Manchester and me and my partner attended here and we've never dined like it! The host was so welcoming and put every single one of his customers first. The food was absolutely insanely nice. All topped off with a lovely man named Nigel who even paid mine and my partners bill who I hope sees this and I wish him all the best and thank you so so much! The night me and my partner had dining here will never be forgotten! Hope to come again!

Visited with my wife while in Southport. The welcome was very friendly and the iced water that arrived was topped up all night. We choose a decent Malbec at a decent price. The dip and tapas we picked were all delicious and filled us up (we picked 5 tapas between the two of us) The host was jolly all night and went out of his way to ensure we were having a very good time. Would highly recommend.

Went here for my partners bday with son wife and granddaughter absolutely fabulous from walking in to leaving.. Gino (boss ) was everything could ask for he explained all what he thought about food but left with us also went thru the drinks very personal touch made us feel like family all night even brought a sparkled cake at the end absolutely superb well recommended well done Gino and all the staff... We will return 👍👍👌👌

What a fantastic little place this is . We'd no sooner sat down when there were two glasses of iced water in the table for us . A really varied selection of Greek/Turkish and Spanish tapas , which you can mix to get the selection you want . The food was really lovely and the owners friendly banter made you feel like you'd known him for years.. Top food , top drinks , top service , and the bill was very reasonable. We were only in Southport for one night , and so glad we chose bistro bar med , and we'll definitely be booking in there again when over that way.

Absolutely fantastic service, attentive and polite, always making you feel comfortable and welcome. The food is of absolute high quality and home made. I enjoyed our meal with the family and would definitely come back again and recommend it to anyone.

Fantastic little Turkish restaurant. We had a mixture of delicious tapas dishes. A choice of meat, fish and vegetarian. Gino, the owner is a great guy, and young Rose who is a new waitress was excellent.

Excellent food served by the 'baby whisperer' Gio. Really enjoyed our meal here and it was the first time we've been able to bring out daughter out but we felt at ease here. Will return next time we're in Southport!

We made a booking direct over the phone and paid a deposit in advance. I was so impressed by this Southport gem - The food was 10/10 and the service was unbeatable. We were so impressed by the portion size and quality of food, I highly recommend the Sangria. The team were lovely, welcoming and helped us to navigate the menu.Bistro Bar Med is a small eatery but we felt comfortable and it offered a relaxed environment. It was nice clean and the toilets were also well presented and clean. The deposit we paid during booking was reduced from our final bill. We will definitely be returning to Bistro Bar Med and highly recommend.

From the moment we walked into the restaurant, Gino looked after us with care and lovely attention to detail, just how a host should be.The food was absolutely fantastic, with plenty of help to find the perfect combination for our taste.It was a pleasure to eat there and you could tell he had a passion for the food.We had a great night and will return if we head back to Southport.

Our third visit to Bistro Bar Med, and a glorious sunny Sunday day was rounded off with an evening at this little gem of a restaurant. Mine Host Gino was a very busy man, with plenty of bums on seats. The service was as swift and as efficient as we wanted, and the sumptuous feast maintained previously lofty standards. The tapas proved popular again washed down with the house sangria. Value for money and if you're in Southport and haven't visited Bar Med, you are missing a trick.

Having not had a 'night out' for around three months, we took the opportunity to make our second visit to Bistro Bar Med. Our last visit back in July left us wanting more of the same. Although a quiet night, the cosy eaterie has a very pleasant ambience, and owner Gino is a magnificent host. The food is sumptuous, whether you opt for the Mediteranean menu or the Spanish Tapas, or a bit of both like we did. The slow cooked Lamb was the highlight of the evening, washed down with a delicious house sangria. The draught Cruzcampo is another hit, although it has been a long time since I've sampled anything other than out of a bottle or can. We will certainly be back, and if you've never tried this place, you're missing a trick.

Just had the most amazing meal here. From start to finish the experience was superb. We were greeted by the friendliest staff who were in full PPE. Hand sanitiser was available at the front door, track and trace was used. We were unsure of what dishes to order and the lovely waitress Chloe recommended a few of the most popular choices. The food was absolutely spot on. The staff here are so lovely including the owner Gino, very welcoming and really make the experience a very pleasant one. Would highly recommend it here, we can't wait to go back.

Lovely gem of a restaurant. Went for a pre Christmas treat with a friend from work. Lovely manager and staff, always make you feel really welcome and don’t rush you. Makes you want to go back often (will take my next time). Food beautifully presented and absolutely delicious.

Tonight was absolutely wonderful. As per Gino was the perfect host attending to our every need. I require gluten free which was easily accommodated. I can't recommend this restaurant enough. It's the jewel of Southport ❤️ xxx

I had heard about this 'hidden gem of Southport' and about the very attentive and knowledgeable staff and owner so decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed, our waiter Yannis was fantastic his friendly smile made us feel at home and also being Greek he had a wide knowledge of the food and his recommendations were delicious!!! I’ve heard of and read about this ‘hidden gem’ of Southport so I thought it was time to see what all the fuss is about and I was not disappointed. When you walk through the door of this very small restaurant you immediately feel like you’re on holiday in the Med. The music, smells and deco are spot on. Gino showed us to our table and continued to make sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. Our server, Chloe, made great recommendations and advised us on how much we should order (tapas) which was great advice. She was very attentive to us and all the other tables and made our night very personal. What an asset!We wouldn’t normally have a desert but Chloe spoke with so much enthusiasm about them we just had to try. The Baklava was to die for! If you’ve not been before then get along ASAP. We will be back without a doubt. Our bill came to just over £100 for 3 of us which included 2 bottles of wine and 2 pints and starters mains and deserts for us all. Very reasonable for the fantastic quality food we were served. I can highly recommend the filo feta parcels, green lipped mussels in creamy sauce, meatballs, lamb stew, chicken skewers. And of course the baklava mmmm,I believe they deliver during lockdown.

Visited the restaurant for my birthday , never been before. Had a gorgeous meal and had to take a doggy bag it was that good!!! I will definitely be returning. Recommend the food and nice decor.

Amazing restaurant with fantastic attentive staff. Repeat visit because it’s just so good with so much variety. Nothing is too much effort, the staff are approachable and seem genuinely happy to be there. Completely covid compliment with sanitiser, track & trace and ppe in place, I felt very safe during my visit. The food is fantastic. Highly recommend my favourite dish the sigara boregi, absolutely gorgeous, the Turkish baklava desert is lovely too. I really do recommend this restaurant, a must when visiting Southport, seriously no better tapas in the north west!

My partner and myself went not so long ago and it was a lovely night. Food was amazing and a decent price! The older gentleman serving us was on the ball with all customers making sure everything was perfect for them. Definitely be going back.
