was at Holme lacy July 14th My review good but food bland and dining experience in market kitchen chaotic. Returned again for 7 day period Aug 7th, as before the grounds the staff and entertainment were 5 star, this time used brasserie good service relaxed and pleasant experience, BUT alas the food, the quality is about standard of a 2 star commercial hotel and obviously a bought in menu not chef created, indeed the menu(same all 7 days) was exactly the same as I had July. Nevertheless I have booked two more weekends here as the peace the grounds and ambience are exceptional, I will hope one day the owners will re-instate the standard of dining pre 2018, when we even had chef's recipes published in the club newsletter

Our family joined us for the last weekend of our 2 week holiday and I must say the service was excellent and so was the food. I was concerned that my 19 and 20 year old grandchildren wouldn’t like the food but they were very happy with everything they ordered.

The menus were not as advertised on the website, which is a complete misrepresentation of what to expect. The ‘buffet’ is not self service, the food looked inedible and was a poor excuse of a starter, more like an unappetising canapé. On the salad station the waitress was standing in front of the food selection holding a plate saying she had to serve us. At the hot food section there was only one chef serving, so when I asked for vegetables he had to leave that station and walk around to where the vegetables were to serve me there too. The desserts were better, but very small, more like pre-desserts. The signs of cost cutting were glaringly obvious and I felt like I was on a cheap, package holiday. The breakfast menu was as expected, but once again not self service, with the waitress running between the cereals, juices and bakery trying to serve everyone. I was told that due to the age of the guests they were serving this way to avoid the risk of an outbreak of novovirus. Really? And, how demeaning is it for a grown man to have his cereal bowl filled for him?

Personally I prefer table service to queueing up canteen style so I was pleased to see that Holme Lacy retained table service. I was also really pleased to be allocated a table in the Bistro, which is much smaller than the main dining room and therefore quieter and less hustle and bustle. I have an allergy to onions and as I reported in the main hotel feedback, Chef Sean went above and beyond to see that I could have more choice, making onion free gravy for me and alternative vegetables on the first night when the veg choice included onions. All in all a very pleasant dining experience, with good service and friendly staff.

We have just returned from holme lacey the restaurant and bar is all table service no self serve so I was a bit dubious as previous visits to Thoresby, nidd and alvaston we had issues waiting for service and waiting for food and drink to be delivered. There were no issues at holme lacey service was excellent staff were polite friendly and extremely efficient. The system they have in place works and should be shared with other hotels . I can not single out one member of staff as they were all good . Perhaps it is down to the standard of training they received. Only draw back is the menu could do with a change. Entertainment good hotel and grounds are lovely.

Disappointed that the table was not dressed with party package and prosseco I would advise anyone ordering this to go as soon as you arrive to Reception to remind the restaurant .we where given 2Bottles of wine to compensate and money rehemburst no problem .knowing now at main meal I would mix and match the menu to suit myself for example Lamb shank came with sweet potato mash and mix veg which is peppers onions obergines which I don't like so changed for creamy mash and pease which was with the Liver and onions.i think it would be better to be asked what veg you would like with your meats other wise no complaints .friendly staff.

We were shown to our table by a very pleasant team leader for every meal during our 7 nights stay. There were no queues. Our special requests were all met . The tables were set well apart. All were sanitised after use. The waiters /waitresses were all very pleasant and very helpful. The plates were hot and the meals were all hot well presented and very tasty, Apart from sometimes waiting for the kitchen to send the meals out and the tables too small for the plates etc , neither the fault of the waiters who all worked very hard at every meal with a smile. Overall a very relaxing time in lovely surroundings.

went here on recommendation from friends ( who went pre covid) expecting buffet, roast meals etc. not so, hardly any choice, everything was luke warm on cold plates when it arrived. no choice of veg or potatoes. seems like everything is dished up in the kitchen and either left under a (hot ??) lamp or microwaved. chips nicely brown outside RAW inside. never again.

This is now being used as an allocated dining room, we found the staff friendly and helpful. Food portions were just right for us and a good choice every day. No queuing to get in and well distanced tables, though they were a little small to fit everything on.

evening meal in the bistro was the worst food and portions i have ever been served with(breakfast was okay) and even when complained to and more food requested by many guests, they still continued to serve the same size portions that wouldn't even feed a small child never mind an adult, and it became embarrassing to keep asking for more.

Booked with Buyagift voucher , was told on phone voucher was fine even though it would be out of date by time the date came , but because we booked early they would except .We also checked with Buyagift who confirmed Holme Lacy had redeemed our voucher . Arrived at Holme Lacy which has beautiful grounds . There was 2 young ladies greeting people at main entrance . As it was raining they had a umbrella each .But there was a young girl who was busting out of her uniform and full of spots that were bleeding from being picked , whom we asked where the cream teas were . She started to tell us then stopped to shout something stupid and to her friend and let out a stupid giggle . She then carried on telling us where we had to go . She was very unprofessional and was totally not suited for a front of house job.We walked through the building which is in dire need of paint in many areas .Then we walked in to an area where it was completely full with very elderly people eating and drinking . We were told to go through to the bar area which was where lunch was being served , the room looked like a staff canteen. As soon as we gave our voucher over to the lady at the till she looked stoned faced at us and said ' it's out of date ' . 3 times I tried to explain to her what we had been told by the hotel back in July , 3 times She ignored me .Does Holme Lacy honesty think we would bother travelling all the way to them and try and get a free cream tea if we had been told other wise . All We were doing was to try to redeem our voucher .We were told to wait . We stood at the side for 10 minutes while a lady went to check . We stood and watched the food coming out to customers and it wasn't very appealing . .The customers were lined up to order their food and drink right in the way of the waitress who was having trouble carrying her tray and out of breath .It was embarrassed watching her , she too was busting out of her uniform and looked like she was Having trouble walking around . The lady returned and told us we were unable to have our cream tea as the voucher was not in date again I tried to explain to this lady but she told me 3 members of staff had told her No .It would have been polite and out of curiosity for a member of the management team to come to speak with us . But it all seemed too much trouble . The staff that answer the phone and book these days should be taught NOT to give out false information, and front line staff should be taught how to act in front of customers . Just as we were leaving an elderly couple who were eating their lunch , the lady was pushing her food around her plate , smiled at us and said ' don't worry love your not missing anything nice '' and pointed towards their plates . The roll they had on their plates looked like one of the frozen rolls caterers but in bulk from Brake Brothers cheap .This said it all to us .At least the elderly couple smiled as we didn't get one smile from any from any of the staff .You are better having a cream tea elsewhere , the service and attitude of certain staff is unbelievable and rude .

A fantastic weekend of entertainment provided by The Jersey Tones and The Firebirds. However weekend some what spoiled by the need to queue at the restaurant door for every meal. Not always getting the same table. This is a new way of booking your table. Not the best way and certainly not as good as it used to be.

Had a great table by a mirrored wall so that we could see all around us. Food choice and quality was excellent and included in our Warner's 4 night break. Self-service fruit bar at breakfast as well as lots to order from the menu. Very friendly and efficient service and enjoyed being able to help myself to vegetables at dinner in the evening rather than have them served up to me.

Holme Lacy House food has not improved the last three times we have stayed there. This time the food was not to a very high standard and if you are going to serve steak with a mixed grill, don't cook it and then leave it sitting in the warming area in a dish so long that you could sole you shoes with it.

The Courtyard Bistro is one of two restaurants to choose from at Holme Lacy. In our opinion, the best one. The staff are very professional in their work, nothing is too much trouble for them. The layout of tables is such, that you are not on top of each other, although if you want to make conversation with your next tables you can without encroaching on them. The food is up to Warner standard, as usual. Both restaurants are served from the same kitchen.

Probamos el exquisito menú de cena con los dos primeros cursos excelentes. We stayed here overnight and booked the restaurant for our evening meal. Lovely staff, in a lovely surrounding. It’s a shame it was dark so we couldn’t see the views. Nice selection of starters, mains and desserts and we managed to enjoy all three. In the morning, the breakfast menu was plentiful and the sausage and bacon from a local butcher were very tasty.

England's Gate is a traditional British Pub and should be proud that it lives up such expectations. The food and the service was excellent. My wife had a steak which was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was exceptional (especially for those who wish to have some comfort food occasionally . Pity more is not made of the 'pie of the day' as it was obviously hand crafted and had a very generous filling of tender and tasty steak. I was a little unsure of what I would get when ordering as the description and lead me to believe it might be 'brought in'. Top marks when it arrived and looked and tasted great. This (and perhaps other great items on the menu) should be heralded as a special dish (as it clearly was) . Overall, we wouldn't hesitate to go back and sample the food and atmosphere again. Super place, well above average food.
