Birds on Albert St in Derby

Wet slippery floor, I slipped and banged my head on the counter and the lady had no care in the world. Rude and unbothered service. I’ve been to other branches and they are lovely I will not be returning.

We go very ofton.Staff Very Good Service is Tops. On my sausage Cob this morning I found a small black hair. Otherwise its great value. Wont stop me returning to Birds.

the pork pies this Xmas have gone drastically down -hill. the quality of the larger more expensive pies just isn't there,no seasoning in the meat,crust extremely dry,inedible in fact. when you buy something for £10 you expect it to be a good quality product .BIRDS you have let yourselfs down this year and we have PAID for it. not good !!

Birds bakery always serves freshly made food and the coffee is good too! Then of course you can shop for cream cakes , pastries,pies,pasties,bread, rolls ,cooked meats and sausages, all of which are delicious!

We saw that the filled rolls being served to table looked lovely so decided to try the cafe out. Firstly the tables vacated were left for ages before being cleaned and cleaned. However, the main issue is I waited at the cafe counter waiting to order. There was no one in front of me or behind. I waited and waited while three female staff members buzzed around me. No eye contact, no acknowledgement, no engagement at all! A man came to the counter and asked for a knife and was given one… even then, no one acknowledged me. We waited and waited…. My husband even noticed from the table and in the end we literally just left the cafe. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve never experienced anything like it. This was Tuesday 7th November around 1.45pm ish. We won’t ever return and will not recommend. In fact quite the opposite.

I love the variety of food on offer in Boots. But! Sadly am unable to enjoy most of it. I'm vegetarian, Coeliac and Lactose intolerant. There is only 1 item I can buy, and that is the one item that is gluten free. They used to sell a meringue. It had double cream in the centre, now, what most people don't know is that pure double cream is very low in lactose, and I can usually tolerate it. I understand that Birds don't want to be sued..but really!! One item??

Clean tidy place friendly staff

Walked in to spend a half hour with a warm snack before my hairdresser appointment. staff asked me and my partner to leave the mostly empty seating area as we had ordered from the wrong till. The snack itself was dreadful so I left it at the counter after paying for it, before leaving. What an awfully disappointing experience

Use every week and have done for years. Best bakers in Derby usually. However recently purchased a new line ie a ginger cupcake amongst the cakes I buy and it was very underwhelming! Soggy and bland and overpriced at £1.40. Ginger flavour was poor and there was obviously too much liquid in the mix. Needless to say I will not be buying that one again,not the usual high standard.

Nothing wrong with service ect! Sit inside cafe price's are expensive! Even by 2023 standards! Plus ,you are not allowed to eat food purchased from the Joint Bakery counter! Cafe & bakery are both together in the same building! Now I do understand that you are paying for seating ect. But I don't agree that you shouldn't buy a drink,Inc Costa of service and seating,then to consume any items purchased from the bakery dept! Ido personally visit other Birds outlets where this is acceptable! and cafe price's are much less costly!

Very appalling customer service! When arriving, we were not asked if we were eating in or not so just ordered at the bigger till next to the seating area. At the till, again, we were not asked if we were eating in and spent nearly £10 on food/drink (including hot drink). We then sat down and started eating, I went to use the toilet and I was told by a very rude member of staff that we were “NOT ALLOWED” to sit down in there because we had bought from the take out section. We then had no choice but to leave meaning we had no where to eat and drink what we had purchased. I would have happily paid extra if we needed to, but we were not even given any option to do so. I have never experienced this at any other birds bakery and it is rude and poor customer service to refuse a table to paying customers. I will be expecting some kind of apology or compensation for this, because we couldn’t enjoy our food and drink because it had gone cold, and we were rudely spoken to and kicked to the curb. Very displeased in my experience today. At the least, somebody should explain to the customers the process, and ASK if they are eating in, not just kick them out… DISGUSTING!!

Went in to sit down and eat some lunch and was forced out by one of the employees behind the till when I tried to sit and eat. If there is a surcharge for eating indoors let people know and I would be happy to pay but forcing people out and being rude solves nothing. I have always loved visiting birds and I'm sure I will again but this level of customer service belongs in no business. I am now forced to eat my now cold food on a bench outside in the rain.

Walked form the museum to the bakery hoping to get Lamb&mint slice for all the kids. Unfortunately this is the only bakery in town that NEVER has a variety of baked hot slices Inc one I was after. So been quite hungry and tired after museum, first decided we'd sit outside in a fresh air, then last minute kids changed mind and we sat inside. A member of staff came saying there is an extra charge to be paid to sit in, how much exactly she could not tell. So on the bill of just little little over £11, I was charged almost HALF for table service we never get in the end! Waiter had to put it through as something else instead. Still sat eating from the paper pouches, not even 1 napkin has been offered!!! I'm usually pretty tidy and always use wet wipes to clean after my children, just understanding how difficult the waiter's job can be at times. This time I didn't feel like it at all. Totally dissatisfied with this particular bakery. Will never try again for a lamb slice as its almost never in, the hot food selection is pretty poor.

It takes a lot for me to walk out of a shop just for a queue but when 3 people are chatting at one end, another one walks passed and doesn't acknowledge the 5 people waiting I just think it's poor.

Polit staff and as with all Birds' nice food at reasonable price. I went in at 2pm and was served promptly. Only been once, so I speak as I find. I would vists again and recommend.

Most of the staff are excellent. Professional , friendly and nothing is to much trouble.

Lovely rolls 😋 a little gem in the shopping centre at Derby.

The management seems to be going for the quick buck by reducing the amount of filling in the sandwiches and rolls rather than maintaining or improving standards. Haven't got any plans to go back soon. Greggs are a better option for me.

Best breakfast in derby and the best cakes for afternoon tea, a local independent bakery, buy local and avoid the big boys who don’t pay tax.

Never disappointed, EVER. They always have lovely patient staff too, so thank you to them all. We're lucky to have Birds. There's nothing in their shop that I wouldn't eat. Beautiful cakes, so fresh and tasty and at a very good price. Sandwiches are divine and again at a low price. Pork pies, sausages, ham and many more. They have fruit cake slices with marzipan and icing, delicious, so tasty. Their lunch time sausage rolls are either cold or hot, again yummy. How I miss their 2 sized Torton cakes, they were so beautiful, so morish, but I think they were too expensive to make, hence more expensive in price, such a shame. If you've never had a Bird's cake, then you've never lived 😂 enjoy, you won't be disappointed 👍

Came here just to give a 5 star rating for the lamb and mint slice. This alongside many other unbelievable items mean birds is a solid 5 star.

Very welcoming and helpful. Excellent covid arrangements. Breakfast wow. Jacket potato superb. Top quality ingredients. All on one level. Accessible toilet. A must visit. Very enjoyable. Loads of buses. Lots of blue badge parking. Staff lovely. So helpful.

Love all Birds goodies, can’t go wrong, however there was no need to mess with a winner being Caramel Donuts, they are smaller and 20pence more each, please Birds don’t do this.

‘Called by here for a quick early coffee before shopping in Intu Centre. Never been before. Always usually busy so we thought we’d give it a try. Two cappuccinos for £5.80!. Not cheap. And not justifying that premium price. I’m sure many enjoy the central location and convenience but it’s not for us.

I've been going to this branch for year's perfect for all your usual birds favourites ,sit down sandwich with friends and family dinner time sarnie and crisps or a classic hot sausage cob or pastie on the go staff mostly friendly but one small blonde red faced lady who also speaks sign is extremely rude and unprofessional everytime ive had her serve me at the counter ive left feeling I've done something wrong having spoken to other customers ive found they have had similar experiences if im unfortunate enough to have her serve me with a bad attitude again i will be using another branch.

Love Birds bread, cakes, ect but I can't say the same about the cafe here. Asked for a coffee and a cheese scone, warm. The scone ended up toasted and the coffee just warm. Service slow, I heard the couple in front of me and the lady behind me also comment on this. I should have complained but I didn't have the time!

Cold, wet and windy outside so a visit to one of the Birds shop for a breakfast cob is just the job and always goes down well.

Who doesn't love Birds ! Only prob,if you go late ,chances are your favourite cake has gone,but wouldn't go anywhere else for fresh cream cakes,

A Derby institution! I get all our bread from here these days, having moved away from overly processed supermarket bread. Love the pork suasages, great cooked in the oven. The cakes and pastries are tasty old fashioned classics. You can't really miss at Birds. I've also eaten in at the cafe a few times, it's not an overly modern or exciting menu but if you're just looking for a good sandwhich, sausage cob, cake & cuppa it's good quality food at a reasonable price.

Birds get 5 Stars from me. Staff spot on, helpful, pleasasant. No one can beat their rolls and bread. Cakes are to heaven.

Birds is great for something quick. The menu is limited but what they serve is usually very good. Clearly their pork or sausage baps are great but their tea cakes are also not to be missed. Always busy which basically confirms how popular it is.

Nice cake shop in Branston and a cafe aswell serving decent Tea and Coffee. Loads of parking and a nice area to live.

Find the staff to be extremely rude, unhelpful, slow and pompous. Seems to be the case in most birds bakeries, must be a work requirement to treat customers badly!

No sandwich boxes..squashed into 'a roll bag'..disappointed with Birds today (26:1:19)

Raining outside. So two hot teas and two sausage cobs with everything. Sat in the corner watching the world go by. Clean tidy and staff friendly and helpful. What more could you ask. Will go again.

It's a proper vacation location

Birds are an iconic Derbyshire institution providing bread, cakes and pies to their customers. Their shops now provide an eat in option and their sausage cob is one of the best ones around.

It's birds, great food and the cakes mmmmm. Lots of seating and toilets.

I would not recommend this bakery as the cakes are all filled with whipped cream as the éclair au chocolat is an aberration, this cake being French, it is stuffed with pastry cream by injecting through three holes located under the cake, it is vulgarly cut in half and hop the creme fouetté foul, inedible when you know the real cake go instead at pastry Valerie and you will discover a real patisserie.

Staff friendly, welcoming and helpful. Great cafe ☕with comfortable seating and you can really relax. They are children friendly. Good for prices. Been going for years and will continue to go back. Would heartily recommend.
