Biltmore Bar and Grill in York

I recently used the Biltmore as a venue for a large formal event for 80 people. It didn't take too much effort to organise and the outcome was superb: - The upstairs venue is beautifully decorated with light, plants and other things. - The food came out hot and on time and was so tasty - such a diverse menu. - The staff were very friendly and helpful, making adjustments to out needs on the night with little fuss. Though the drinks are a little pricey, the cost of food, venue and atmosphere make up for them fully. I would strongly recommend the Biltmore for medium sized function or for a simple outing in York.

I had to give a 1 star as it won't let me give 0 but trust me this place deserves non. Vile place, service from the young blonde lass was perfect, couldn't fault her if I tried. The food was vile, I only ate some of the burger as I was so hungry from the 1 hour wait even tho we preordered? What's the point of preordering if we have to wait the same amount of time if we hadn't? The 'manager' was an absolute narcissist, he spoke to my family (of women) like they were below him, he then threatened to ring the police just because he could not deal with the fact we did not like the food. 'We have never had a complaint about our food' he says, maybe because you have no customers? We could not fault the young girl who served us, she was lovely, very respectful and also had the whole place to run herself (even though there was only us and 2 other tables). This said manager as then got the bouncer to come ask us to leave as apparently we have refused to pay? That was never the issue, we had asked for 10% off as of the wait we were made to wait and also the food being vile. The bouncer was also very lovely and very understanding. So thank you for our waitress, the other staff and the bouncer.

Went here on Saturday for a hen party of 9. The communication with the booking staff was excellent, the waitress was polite but run off her feet. I was over the moon at having managed to book this as it looked lovely and the reviews were so good. That’s where it ends. We were sat for 1 hr waiting for the first course, then another 30 mins for the next course, which was mediocre at best. I had the duck salad, it was okay but the people that had the lamb gyros said they were disgusting, I didn’t taste it but it didn’t look good. We asked the waitress if she could do anything about the fact that we were waiting so long. Nothing happened, when asked again later she said she would ask the manager. A little while later the manager arrived, leaned over the bar and in a not very friendly manner asked who wanted to speak to him. He had a bad attitude from the beginning and stated that non of their food was microwaved and this is why it takes so long. I do wonder why they have 5 microwaves in their kitchen if they don’t use them? Anyway, with an argumentative manner he eventually said he would give us 10% off the bill. I went and sat down and a few minutes later my friend came and told me he had retracted this offer and was sending the police. In disbelief we sat there waiting to see what happened. The next thing we knew we were told by a doorman that we had to leave. We left the building in shock and then discovered that the venue had put us on pub watch and we couldn’t go to many of the venues, thus ruining the rest of the night. We spoke to a few people that evening and were told that he has done this to a few people. He obviously doesn’t know how to take a complaint and this stupid, knee jerk reaction will ruin the business for the other staff who were lovely. I am so disappointed as this beautiful venue turned out to be a hostile nasty place. I have actually looked a little deeper in to the reviews and found some very similar experiences. So if you go here and you don’t like the food or the service, I suggest you keep your moth shut or the manager will ruin your whole night.

Absolutely appalling! Well I felt sorry for the waitress as the service from the kitchen was so bad we had to leave . Waited 1 and half hours for our food and the manager certainly needed some tips in customer service . Avoid it like the plague.

The team at Biltmore were excellent from start to finsih for our coprorate away day. We had great communicationw with Sally in the run up, helping us with pre-orders, accomodating dietary requirements and makign personalised drinks token so help us manage costs. On the day they had sorted out table name cards for us all which gave an added extra to the lunch and we had beautiful food from the canapes through to the two course starter and main. Everyone has been raving about the food ever since and we would love to go back! The staff were all lovely, really looked after us and we could want for nothign during our time there. Would highly recommend for any large booking event. A great price especially for such exceptional food and service! Thank you Biltmore York :)

Bad service ! Manager arrogant ! Food awful ! Do not waste your money .

My friend who does not drink alcohol ordered a zero alcohol wine and the waitress brought her a Prosecco instead with alcohol in because they had no zero alcohol wine. I mean this is crazy, she didn’t even come back to ask her what alternative non alcoholic drink would she like instead, she just plonked it right in front of her face. It’s a good job she’s not a recovering alcoholic.

Very disappointed with our pre planned evening meal, we had pre ordered and paid and we were seated upstairs, absolutely dire atmosphere, it was for my friends 50th birthday, zero acknowledgment from the place. Was told the kitchen was closed upstairs so we had an hour wait on our pre ordered food. The cocktails were rubbish, just way too sweet and poor quality, very expensive too so expected more. It was freezing too and we did ask if the air conditioning could be switched off but nothing changed. All in all disappointing visit and would not return or recommend.

Walk-in booking for lunch at 1245 ish on a Saturday. Only 3 other tables with diners. Ordered drinks and food… with no hint of food 35 mins after ordering (Caesar Salad and Lamb Wrap) I managed to get the waitress’ attention with some difficulty. She admitted they had no kitchen operating and were relying on the business next door for food - and we would be in for a significant further wait. We paid for our drinks and left hungry to find somewhere that would actually feed us.

We booked a table for my wife's birthday but on arrival there was only one other couple in there. Person taking our order and serving was very good. Ensured we had drinks and our order was taken on time. Even gave my wife a small bottle of preseco for her birthday. Lots of food on the plate, so go hungry.. 😊👍

We came here for my 40th birthday after the races. It was a big group so there was some organisation needed before hand. The team at the Biltmore couldn't do enough for us! The food was lovely and reasonably priced, and the service was excellent! Will definitely come here again. Thank you

Alice was amazing, she was attentive and quick when delivering drinks. She was kind and very caring with our table, she was many other tables to care for however we felt like individuals and she made our time here enjoyable and unforgettable. Thank you Alice . She truly deserves a raise for how amazing she made our experience.

I booked The Biltmore for a hen party for 13 people and can say that the venue was beautiful, food was lovely and the service was great too! There was 12 of us in total and the servers were constantly coming round for drinks orders and making sure we were ok. Thank you for a fabulous afternoon!

Popped in for a quick bite to eat on a Saturday afternoon and what a treat it was. Bar staff were warm and welcoming and the burger was the best I’ve ever had. Would recommend to everyone.

What can I say.....if you wear a stone island jumper you are classed as a hooligan apparently! Obviously not always the case some people just like quality made clothing. So they ask you to take the badge off your jumper....strange as your still wearing the same jumper with the badge in your pocket.....and if you were a hooligan you're still a hooligan badge or not. Terrible behaviour, never mind plenty of bars in York

I'm a 45 year old male, 2 kids, full time employment since 1997 for a large tech company. It was a Friday evening and I wasn't allowed in because my trainers contained a bubble (Nike Air). I asked the gentleman (bouncer) to repeat what he had just said to me and his response was on the aggressive side. Which wasn't welcome nor warranted. Once again, the Biltmore which was once the place to go in York is just another pond of a place to go with doormen who have no idea on how to deal with people. Used to always go there once upon a time but now there are so many better bars in York, don't wastey your time or money. If you do go, do not have bubbles in your shoes 😂😂😂.

Chips were great however chicken burger was pink and jelly like at parts so scared of food poisoning, was served by Brad, what an absolute star! Gave such a good service and was super nice and understanding<3 would reccomend for a drink but not for food :D

My second year running using The Biltmore for a corporate team evening. The ground floor area is perfect for large groups with the bar in the centre with lots of space around it and booths for seating. We had a great DJ and created our own dance floor! Sally was very attentive throughout the planning process and we were well looked after by the team on the night. Hope to be back again next year!

Had a lovely meal here. Unfortunately the menu at the location was different to the website, and some unavailable options meant a change in meal choice. Very quiet being a week day, which meant prompt service! We recommend a visit.

Fabulous food, cooked fresh, plenty of choice . A really great meal. Great veggie options. Fabulous place in a converted church Brad looked after us like kings ! What a great bloke . No atmosphere and the service was poor.

Well I love to be able to comment on the inside but could not get in to see. I went out for birthday drinks with my 2 sons and daughter and was told by door staff were not letting in big groups. How ridiculous such a let down think its the old story if your face fits you get. Wondering what constitutes as a BIG group? Could have understood if we we a group of 6 or more drunk blokes. think door staff need to stop making up own policies must be costing this place so much money

We had a table booked this evening at 6pm... We walked in and waited and waited some more.. Two members of staff were chatting to each other not serving anyone who continued to chat.. we walked out the door and across the road for a lovely meal at D'vine

Excellent place and more reasonably priced than we expected. Portion sizes, especially for the starters, are great. Could've done with the music being at a slightly lower volume but otherwise no complaints! Our server was chatty and super helpful.

Fantastic venue. Huge green sofas which were very comfy and the layout meant the group of 9 people could all talk to each other. Fabulous food and service!

19 of us enjoyed excellent service from the friendly Biltmore team. Everyone enjoyed their meals which all arrived at the same time thanks to the amazing chefs. Would highly recommend especially for larger groups. We'll definitely be booking again!

Had a lovely large group booking here on Saturday evening. Food (set menu) was really nice, the building is a bit of a gem, staff were super helpful (particularly with allergies), restaurant (upstairs) is relatively peaceful with a vibrant bar downstairs for afterwards. Really enjoyed. Will re-visit.

Staff are all lovley and never fail to have a good night or a lovley meal.

In York for a weekend break with friends. Booked this restaurant for dinner on our 2nd night. Big mistake! Starter was a sharing platter of olives, houmous & flat breads. It was nice, nothing special. The problem came with the main courses. I ordered a chicken burger with salad & fries. When it arrived, it was stone cold & I asked for it to be reheated. It came back 5 minutes later & although it was now hot, it was soggy. The salad leaves on the bun were hot & inedible. I asked the waitress if the whole dish had been put in the microwave & she said yes! I couldn't eat the meal as it was inedible. No apologies from the staff, just "we'll not charge you." We then ordered 2 beers which didn't arrive either. We waited so long for the bill we eventually paid for it at the bar downstairs on our way out. Really disappointing meal & spoiled our Saturday night. Avoid this place, loads of other fabulous places to eat in York.

We booked this venue for a networking business evening and pre ordered drinks and nibbles. The customer service was excellent and the "nibbles" consisted of an amazing, freshly cooked selection of food that was plentiful and delicious. We will definitely be returning in the future.

Absolutely disgusted the way my staff was treated due to the way they where dressed Come to York for a nice casual nice out and due to the way my staff where dressed they where rufused on ground of being to drunk even though this is a easy excuse to refuse admittance due to looks, as we can see this establishment is high on discrimination and only wants a certain criteria, sad to see this is still a problem in the United kingdom

Bouncers where awful letting under age people in over a couple looking for a few drinks

Went in the evening, music was much too loud to have a conversation over dinner. Didn't feel comfortable staying much more than an hour because of this. Drinks good, staff friendly.

OMG This bar used to be great but the management have turned it into nightmare for older people. If you can get in and need to go to the loo you have put up with the youngsters snorting drugs and when you go to the bar you will be pestered by younger people pushing in or pestering you to pay for their Drinks. The bar staff think it's OK to serve every younger person around you and think this is normal but if you complain you are thrown out. It's disgusting and needs to go back to how it was or close before it gets closed. Such a shame as it used to be brilliant for all ages😣

Booked Biltmore for our company dinner following our end of year away day and couldn't have asked for better! Sally was so attentive throughout the whole process which made booking dinner for 50 people a lot less stressful! (Can't thank you enough!) The tables were laid out so lovely and the food was served without any fuss and was absolutely gorgeous. Massive thank you to the whole team for such a seamless service!

Food absolutely amazing and very filling (Sadly didn't get a photo 😔). Drinks were delicious aswell, great portions (Did get a photo! 😌). Our waiter was absolutely amazing and was so sweet. He kept pulling jars of Ketchup and Mayonnaise out of his pockets 😂 10/10 Would absolutely recommend.

We recently organised an after party for our annual careers dinner at the Biltmore, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. Our attendees enjoyed the event but also were thankful for the execution of the evening. Sally, who assited us with organising this event, was extremely helpful and consistently communicated with us throughout the build-up, making sure everything was ready for us. The bar staff, in particular, stood out with their friendliness and impeccable service. They ensured that our guests were well taken care of throughout the night and elevated the event. We would highly recommend the Biltmore for any event. From the inviting atmosphere to the attentive staff, it proved to be the perfect venue for our after party, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

Not the first time I've been here and second time didn't dissapoint either. Great choice of food and an amazing selection of spirits too.

We dropped in Saturday afternoon around 14:00. The staff were really friendly and welcoming and the atmosphere great but we waited what seemed like hours for our food( It wasn't particularly busy) It came out luke warm and just not very tasty. My partners Calamari tasted soapy and the Wagu burger was just over cooked and cold absolutely covered in cheese, so much so that’s all you could taste. I’d like to think that perhaps this was just an off day as the reviews seem really good for this place.

We booked out the Biltmore for a black tie event with a student society. I would strongly recommend it for anyone looking to host a formal event. The staff were all very helpful, warm and friendly. They offered a diverse range of delicious food options and the venue was stunning. I will be definitely be back!

I have had several of my Company Anniversary parties here and I love it! Not ony is this still an owner managed business in York which we love to support, but the service and food quality is fantastic. The staff have that personal touch which means that everyone is made to feel special, perfect for what I always want for my clients. Thnaks oce again to the TEAM, Sally, Arabella (grandaughter), Alice and all the gang that made this such a memorable night once again :)

Impromptu Saturday night took me to the Biltmore and had the best time! The chicken wings (featured) are a must- have and still trying to persuade the staff to let me buy the ranch sauce in bulk (unreal) but they were having none of it 😂😅 staff awesome, great music. First class service. Food was plentiful and delicious. Very accommodating as I am disabled. Well worth a visit.

Though the appearance of the Biltmore is attractive it unfortunately covers up the poor maintenance, customer service and cleanliness of the restaurant. The restaurant was empty, unkept and the facilities were especially unclean. I will not be revisiting or recommending this restaurant to anyone.

So so dead when we walked in. I was stuck on the toilet for 7 mins without any toilet paper then there was chewing gum in the sink as well as a bloody tissue on the side of the sink. It took ages for anyone to come to us and we were the only biggest party there. We walked out I would not recommend

Honestly I would not bother eating here at all. The restaurant itself is absolutely stunning but everything else in it is truly disgusting. Sunday night - absolutely dead. That’s fine but the toilets were in the worse state I’ve ever witnessed before. No toilet roll in a women’s toilet is just so wrong as well. The guy who served us was fine - no issue with him but I would never eat in a place so disgusting. This isn’t even being picky or snobby - it’s just disgusting in there. Do not go.

Arrived early evening dinner booking, despite the place being deserted we were put on the pokiest dining table in the place, so moved to a booth. 4 of us for a special occasion so we ordered a bottle of bubbles, glasses not the cleanest and drinks chiller hardly able to accommodate the bottle. Two of the orders included fries and gravy (Yorkshire Philly Steak sandwich), keeping in mind that there were only 4 of us, both portions arrived cold! How hard can that be? Good luck to the place if it's busy! They were corrected and the rest of the food was fine, but the edge had already been taken off the Biltmore experience. We finished up and went to pay, however all the costed items on the bill didn't match anything on the menu. Apparently there had been an upgrade on the system, but they were too slow or cheap to update the menus that are handed to customers. All in all a bit shabby and I'm sure there are many better places to spend your hard earned money in York.

If you sit outside they serve you the drinks in plastic glasses. I had the burrata salad and it was just half of a burrata with greens on the side without sauce. Where are the tomatoes and the vinegrette? Kind to small for the price.
