Big George's Fish Bar in Southampton

Not good sadly. Some chips were soggy, some clearly double fried, they’d gone hard. The fish had a funny taste to it. All in all very disappointed and definitely won’t order from here again.

Fantastic fish and chips really good portions chips cooked to perfection as was my fish . Very friendly staff always very polite always happy to see customers. Faultless enjoy your chips at this first class chip shop.

This is my usual chippy. The fish is cooked fresh, the chips are too. Once they get to know your face you are greeted warmly and there is not too much of a staff turn over so that they get to know the customers. My go to meal is the chicken kebab!

What these people need to learn is Costumer service. Very rude staff. You have to wait very long be served. Dreadful

Had 1st delivery today food was lovely and on time would deffo use this place again .

Always have great kebabs I can barely finish the large but it's so good I just about manage really nice people too, have called me across the road and treated my pup to a sausage which made our day 😁💯👍

Just got home with chicken and chips...suppose to be chips,they were white and soggy. Very disappointed. Haven't been here for years since the original big george owned it. Wont be going back again.

The fish and chips are cooked lovely and the portion size is great.its such a lovely atmosphere and friendly staff the on site freshly made samosas are the best tasted in Southampton this chip shop has now become my local definitely will be recommending it to people

I love this place. I've been coming here for years( I know it's changed hands). Food is fresh and tastes amazing, but I'm disappointed with the portion size of the chips. It used to feed all 5 of us now barely 3 children. The prices went up, and the portion sizes went down.

Have 2 large cod and large chips delivered most weeks always great, except this evening,cod was great certainly did not get large chips, only half the size as they usually are.

Take away Fish and chips are sadly a lot more expensive these days, a large cod and chips costs over £10. At least here you do get good quality fish (I would say better than some restaurants) and good size portions of chips.

Tried their pizza, absolutely vile and dough not cooked! Very small portions. Fish cakes dripping in oil same as the battered sausage. Not what it used to be like, gone downhill drastically!

This place used to be grim but after visiting tonight the food is definitely on the up. It would take it up a level further with better quality oil and a little less grease. Much improved from 6 months ago though!

Been here 1 ,tucked away ,busy and im not surprised, The sizes of portions for the price is amazing .. Food is delicious. Not my.local chippy but my go to takeaway online ordering.much cheaper to order directlythrough the shop as uber and others add couple more pounds on per item. A definite little gem of a fish chip shop ,and more the mixed wrap is absolutely banging . Chip portions are huge . Many thanks

Brought a large portion of chips they where raw how hard is it to cook chips in a chip shop

I recently moved to Southampton and have been eating at different fish and chips within the area to try to find something that reminds me of my favourite chippy from home, after quite a few, I found this is the one. The jumbo cheeseburger they do is the perfect temperature and is absolutely delicious, the scampi I had was perfect and the chips, even though I ordered the small portion was quite a lot and tasted absolutely amazing. I've yet to try the battered sausage which is my favourite from chippies, but I would highly recommend this place.

I didn't think the chips were very good and the pea fritter wasn't very good .It's certainly not as good as when Big George was there .

Got a chicken Kebab tonight and found this in my food. I'm not using these again.

The chips are dry and soggy to eat and I found it to be undercooked. Also the staff in big georges are rude and unprofessional,inpolite and unfriendly . The chip shop is awful and I recommend anyone not to buy their food from big georges and the food is unhygienic to eat. The customer service is absolutely awful.

The food is great. Portions are generous and the fish is very good. Prices are ok too. I'd recommend ordering in store as we had a long wait for delivery.

The best portion size in Southampton and at a really decent price too! The small chips here is like an extra large chips at other Fish and Chip shops and the Large Cod is Larger than a plate! Lots of places to park around the area too, so it's no hassle! They have a comfortable sofa that customers can relax on whilst you wait for your order to be ready, and an easy to read and visible menu!

Average chippy kebab is nice when he can be bothered to do it ive been in there a few times and been told there's an hour wait for a kebab but its more than obvious he just can't be bothered especially when a young lady walks in after me asks for the same and waits no more than 5 minutes

Chips are the worst I've had in along time, Soggy and under cooked. Definitely wouldn't recommend

Went to Big Georges today fish and chips were fantastic. Batter was so crispy and chips were lovely with a perfect amount of salt and vinegar. Highly recommended

Traditional fish and chip shop! Have always found Big George friendly if you are friendly with him. Marvellous fish, huge portions but feel the chips could be cooked a bit longer .

Terrible chips dry and overcooked always end up in the bin only good bit is the kebabs, good portions. Terrible on customer services, rude guy & ignores you half the time

Chips are always really anaemic and soggy. I wish you'd cook them a bit longer at a higher temperature so they went golden and crispy. Portions are absolutely insane and the price is great, the chips just let them down.

Sausage in batter and chips. Loads of freshly cooked chips and the battered sausage wasn't too greasy. Very enjoyable. No card facility which nearly caught me out. Overall I will continue to use Big George's.

The Best Fish and Chip in Southampton.

Do not eat from this place.. I worked for a week there and omg... the fish is sold as two different kinds even though it's all cod.. it's all one size they just charge you more if you say large.. the machine that cuts the potatoes and makes them chips is dirty with little flys all over it constantly due to the lack of being cleaned trust me it's not good..

Big portions and cheaper than other chippies. Condition of shop needs a bit of a spruce up. The chairs are dirty and stained. Behind the counter and fryers look clean

Big George's is a great place for a cheeky lunch or evening meal when you fancy some fish and chips, kebabs, burgers or even a sausage. The main man behind the counter i think was George and he was great. He gave us so much food, it was unbelievable! If you view some images you will see the size of the portions and the cost is extremely low so 5 out of 5 for value for money and the food is tasty too. Buy a bottle of ketchup and mayo from the supermarket. It is possible to eat it whilst walking but i would recommend eating at a table as there is so much. Two fish and one large chips was less than £8 i think. Incredible. If you haven't been to Big George's, its great. By all means go and try it out. The menu is in the pictures which I took. Great selection at a great price.

Lukewarm chips and no manners!! Small portion was quite large which is all well and good if they were hot!! Obviously rely on the evening trade when they are probably drunk and couldn’t care less

Love this place been going here since I was a child. Great value for money. Super cheap takeaway for families on a budget. Staff are friendly. One downfall is They only take cash here. The fish is huge and cooked beautifully. Chips are always good and there is always plenty of batter around the sausages. This place you will not be disappointed in portion size!

Gave one star just so I can review. I parked my truck not far away for the night and fancied some fish and chips. I had a walk and found Big Georges. I went in and found no Big George but an arrogant, ignorant, bad mannered Asian guy. He was talking jibberish on his mobile whilst taking my order. He got the order wrong and carried on piling it all on the wrapping paper whilst ignoring what I was saying and still carried on chatting on the phone. I walked out disgusted with his attitude. Finally the fish and chips were terrible and made me ill during the night. If this owner and food is your quality in Southampton, then I'll stick to Yorkshire fish and chips. You should try some up north !!!
