First visit to Betton Farm and what a find.. Beautifully refurbished restaurant/tea room set in the small village. Staff were fantastic , very knowledgeable, very professional and super friendly. Only had a light snack and coffee (cakes made in their bakery are lush) sat looking out the window with beautiful countryside views. Definitely be back for a meal as the menu looks delicious... Fabulous courtyard for those sunny days adorned their bakery/shop selling a delicious array of goodies. Great value for money... And !!!!! They have a cracking little animal farm with some super friendly animals... star of the show the friendly pig... A visit to this gem is highly recommended.

Warm welcome around midday although we’d just turned up - we were asked if we’d booked and it later became apparent that this venue is very popular and it’d be wise to book to avoid disappointment. Ordered a cheese scone and a toasted tea cake ,tea and coffee. Prompt, friendly professional service. Scone was lovely and just about on the right side of ‘crumbly’. The tea cake excellent - large, well toasted and arrived hot along with three butters ( always a good sign of quality!). Pleasant dining room and the shop was also good - possible to preorder savoury and also sweet pies. Super selection of preserves and also pickles and breads. Well worth a visit. Bonus is the raisin d’etre of this business - to support and help empower folk with some disabilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit where professional service, environment and food quality were all of a very high standard. Thanks. If you found my review helpful, please indicate.

My husband and I and our 2 friends fancied a run out and lunch for our first trip out this year. I had been in the summer with my daughter and thought it was very good so decided we would go here. A warm welcome and a table overlooking the beautiful countryside. We all had something different but all the food arrived together. The meals were lovely and we all enjoyed them. A big pot of tea with hot water and plenty of milk and sugar. Brilliant service. The portions were huge and no one had room for a pudding. Real value for money. We called at the shop for a browse and bought some bread, scones and ginger biscuits. Large car park. Definitely recommend. We cannot wait to come again.

My wife and I had Christmas lunch here today. We had a starter (melon and pork pate) followed by traditional Christmas lunch - turkey and all the trimmings. No room for puddings although sorely tempted. Fantastic quality and value for money. Staff excellent and very friendly.

(Its fathers day)Went for a drive as you do ,been here before so we knew what to expect ,but this was something else went inside and obviously they had lots of bookings but we arranged for them to do a takeaway to our campervan,it didn't disappoint.prawn cocktail and garlic mushrooms to start very nice and tasty, the mushrooms were done in a sauce with cheese on top and they were stunning ,then we had roast beef dinner roast chicken dinner and a roast pork dinner with proper veg and home made yorkshire puddings ,came to our van hot and fresh and the veg portions were very generous plenty for the four of us to share, and the we had puddings ,jam roll poly and custard and apple and Berry crumble ,proper home made and lashings of custard ,definatly recommending to others and definatly coming back ,food as good as this and service is definatly worth the very reasonable price of just short of £20 for 3 courses and tea and coffee ,many thanks to the staff keep up the good work and we will see you soon . Sorry didn't take any photos of the food we enjoyed it so much we forgot

We visited Betton Farm in August 2020, using the Government's Eat Out to Help Out Scheme. We were initially just going to have a coffee and a cake but were tempted by the afternoon tea after seeing this delivered to a nearby table. We were not disappointed. I have to say that this is the best afternoon tea I have ever had. The sandwiches were very fresh and heavily filled and there was a great choice. I expected just to get a couple of small ones as is usually the case with an afternoon tea but there were 4 large sandwiches each! The scones were huge, and so very tasty, again the best scone I have ever tasted. The cakes were also beautiful, fresh and full of flavour but I had to take my chocolate cake away with me as I was so full!! The staff were fantastic too, nothing was too much trouble and they were very chatty, helpful and excellent at their jobs. You must visit this place, it is an absolute gem!! I will definitely be back.

Called in with our little one and some friends for lunch. It wasn’t too busy and we ordered our toddlers meal first thing before we ordered ours. Thank goodness we did- took nearly 30 minutes for sandwiches and fries! The baby changing facilities are poor. The toilet needed cleaning and they could do with a shelf or a couple of hooks somewhere to assist with bags etc. Staff were friendly enough and my tuna sandwich was fine - but considering the time it took it should have been better!!Will go somewhere else next time.

Popped in here in the late afternoon with our toddler and enjoyed the animals, however there are numerous large nettles in the grassy play area. We had to keep moving our little one away from them, they need to remove these. The numerous toys are a bit dated and could do with replacing. We went to the cafe about 3.50pm for a cuppa but it was closed!!

A friend and I visited with our teenage daughter (nearly 14 years old) for breakfast. We wanted to sit outside with a view, where we have always sat over the past few years (including with the same teenager). But for the first time we were told we couldn’t sit there as we had a child with us (for health & safety reasons), there was an outside step and they didn’t know how well behaved our child (teenager) was. She just wanted to enjoy breakfast with us. I asked what age children the child policy covers? The lady didn’t know and just shrugged her shoulders. This seems to be a nonsense, not clear and very subjective policy. Any reasonable person could see how well behaved our teenager was. Our teenager was very embarrassed about the situation and the way she was spoken about. We sat in a different area. The breakfast menu is virtually non existent - scrambled eggs or a variant of this and no options for vegetarians/vegans. Very poor menu choice. The food we had was of good quality (apart from a very burnt and inedible sausage)but the prior service and very poor menu choice mean that we won’t be visiting again! Such a shame.

We came to Betton Farm as part of a rally staying in their camping area. We booked a Sunday roast lunch and were not disappointed. Well cooked and nicely presented meals in a comfortable, family friendly environment that also managed to pull off being elegant enough to host a business dinner if desired. Portions were generous but not over the top, leaving room for dessert. We each ordered a different dessert and I can honestly say that you do not want to miss out on their fantastic desserts. The coffee was also excellent, as was the tea, enough so that my husband and I nipped out a couple of days later and treated ourselves to a tea and coffee while our teenagers slept in. A few days later, we joined members of our rally group for a group breakfast, and again, the food was perfection. The staff were friendly too, not only while serving, but greeting us as they set up the marquee and outdoor seating as we went by. Lovely play area nearby for those with younger children as well as a farm shop with some very excellent (and inexpensive) fresh made ice creams.

The food is nice enough, the staff are friendly, but the service is so slow that for the second time we finished out meal, waited for the waiter to come and clear away so that we could order coffee, and after waiting 15 minutes we decided to leave. Really good menu and so nice to have the choice of other food rather than just Sunday lunch (they did look lovely however ) very fairly priced and the coffee cake was lush. My mum was so impressed she booked a table for next week. Lovely staff especially the blonde lady. I would advise booking tho as almost every table was reserved. We booked with friends for a Christmas meet up and lunch. We were greeted and shown to our table by a roaring fire, very welcome. The table was beautifully decorated with crackers and candles. Our order for drinks was taken and efficiently brought to table. Then came our lunch ,thick slices of juicy turkey breast, pigs in blankets ,the customary Yorkshire pudding and a ball of excellent tasty stuffing. Vegetables on platters roast and buttered new potatoes, sprouts, brocolli and carrots and a jug of gravy. Excellent perfectly cooked and presented. We unfortunately had little room for sweets and went straight to coffee served with hot mince pies. A great lunch in good company a great start to Christmas festivities.

We have been her quite a lot and always enjoyed our meal, order of 2 lasagne and 2 chips and the chips didn't come, we asked the waitress if the chips were on the way, she went off and a few minutes later brought 1 portion of chips, told her there was supposed to be 2, she then became very rude and said we will have to wait, well the chips came when we had just about finished our food! They didn't get eaten, the chips were so greasy and so was the lasagne along with been tasteless! Well it's for sure we won't be visiting here again...disappointment all round!

Betton farm is on the approach to East Ayton from Scarborough. The tea room situated in a small complex of family centred activities and small businesses on top of the hill with great south facing views accoss the valley. The staff are excellent, friendly and very helpful and the food is traditional, consistently good, well priced and good potions. To get to the tea room you walk through a seated outdoor area, enter via the conservetory into a large converted barn that looks out over a seated garden and the valley. Access is quite good but if using the disabled parking spaces it is tricky to access the path due to an awkward gradient that joins the path and car park. Its a good place to visit anytime of the year.

Just stayed for one night. Fantastic location. And a decent enough welcome. Room lovely, clean and comfy bed. Lovely quality tea.and coffee. We were asked what time would we like breakfast the choice was 8, 8.30, 9 or 9.30 we chose 9am we came down for breakfast and service was good.. then we chose full breakfast and a good size one turned up!! When we started eating it was clear it had been cooked and left to keep warm ages the egg looked like the yolk had been on somebody elses plate hash brown had such a hard bottem you couldn't get your teeth though it, I'm sure they knew how bad it was as they kept well out of the way. We left lots of the breakfast! We proceeded to check out and she said was everything OK ? I said lovely apart of the breakfast that had been kept warm far too long.. she just said sorry and not very sincerly and changed the subject.. we travel alot and vote with our feet.. won't be returning to stay at the Royal george. Such a shame. But we didn't let it ruin our lovely trip to Staithes..and we will be back......

I'm sure I'm not the only one who followed the gents toilet sign and ended up outside looking confused and pained. Staff seemed a little grumpy when we called in, except for a young chap (possibly Polish) who was very helpful and courteous to the guests checking in. The Plough is in a lovely location and not too far from Whitby harbour which was great for our trip to the WGW. The pub itself is cozy and we were shown to our room by a lovely young chap. There are only three rooms to rent and we were in room one. Upon inspection it was nice and clean and smelt fresh. Very basic with a kettle and tea/coffee but for one night we couldn't complain. The bathroom was very spacious though with a big walk in shower. It was quite cold in our room and when we tried to turn the radiator on it didn't seem to work. We only used the room as a base to sleep and we were out till early hours so this wasn't too much of a problem for us. Also the remote control for the TV didn't seem to work so we only had the one rubbish channel to watch as we couldn't turn the TV over, but again wasn't too much of a problem. If we had been staying for more than a night then we would have mentioned it to staff. I found the bed to be quite comfy but my husband said it was really uncomfortable. We also found a past guests hoodie under the bed so obviously hadn't been cleaned properly. Food was decent and prices were what you'd expect. It was a shame they didn't do breakfast. 10 mins in the car to whitby and not too far from other attractions. We would definitely visit again for food if nearby but I probably wouldn't stay here again if for more than a night.

I recently dined at the White Horse and Griffin, and it was a complete disappointment. My sister-in-law, who dined with me, got her meal at half price after she raised a complaint, but when I did the same, the manager flat-out refused to discount mine. The excuse? Because I had eaten my meal, it was “too late to complain.” This is absolutely ridiculous — as a customer, I should still be able to express dissatisfaction, especially when the meal was so underwhelming. For £24, I was served a chicken leg, half a tomato, and a small potato. What a joke! The portion was tiny, the food was average, and the lack of customer service was downright frustrating. I won’t be returning, and I highly advise others to avoid this place unless you want to be treated unfairly.
