Went in for a coffee and cake mid week. Despite not being busy at all the lady serving took ages, served the coffee which was barely hot enough ages before the croissant and did so with a face like thunder. They really give the impression that they are doing you a big favour in serving you.

Liked the look and feel of the place. The freshly made juices were amazing plus nice coffee. Avocado on toast was delicious as was the scrambled egg, bacon and mushroom on toast. A bit of a mix up with the sourdough toast - but staff were lovely and provided another coffee on the house. Nicely stocked shop too.

Stopped here for lunch on a Sunday. Food was good and lots of choice for veggie. Portion sizes were good, but served on very small plates, so food was crowded. Not the cheapest place around and very informal, with bench seating and sit up counter. They could do with sorting out the way they serve the food. Not clear where you queue or how it works, and thus very inefficient. But if you want something a little different from the usual fare, don’t mind paying a few quid extra, £33 form 3 for lunch with tea and coffee and are not that fussed about the surroundings then would recommend. Take away looked good.

Went on a Saturday. The blonde guy seemed to constantly walk in from of people, without excusing himself and the blonde girl behind the food counter refused to speak, respond to being thanked 3 times, and refused to get us any utensils despite the fact that she had to pass then to go back behind the serving counter. The foods are over-priced, including supplements and 'health' drinks. Maybe, being mean, moody and (not so) magnificent is the way to run these stores. It appears that customers are more of a burden. I hope the management explains that people on my side are the prophet and the other side is the overheads. No atmosphere...perhaps this is the new 'zen' approach to customers...totally blank them and never demonstrate good manners. Our first, and last, time here.

I went in for lunch to treat my partner as she loves vegetarian food and even though the food was pleasant the portion size was terribly small, I left feeling disappointed and still hungry.

Years ago, when this site first changed usage from the prooving house, I dipped in to the food shop that took up residence and wasn't too impressed. I live in Easton and it was easier to stick to the well-established Bristol Sweet Mart. But I've always had the place in the back of my mind, wondering how it was doing and whether it would appeal. Well today I stopped by on my way from LP hunting up on Gloucester Road and I had a ball! Back in the day, the Sweet Mart was the only place to go for certain ingredients, now considered main-stream and available in all the supermarkets, including the discounters... I thinking here about spices breads and veg like ginger garlic and aubergine! So the need to go to BSM for "world food" basics has faded... and Better Food reminded me of the sort of ethos that BSM used to have - I walked in and pottered round for about an hour after which I thought, "Bingo! - this is it! This is a shop I can come to with a dinner-party shopping list and go through the card! " Lovely meat, lovely cheeses, great veg. - even good-quality booze - and good space between the aisles, too! OK, my first shop came out a bit dearer than I expected, but I did buy a posh re-useable hessian shopping bag, as well as bottle of white wine north of a tenner, so I can't complain! I will be back to try the very tempting range of astisan cheeses. I suspect I may become a frequent visitor...

I went here with my family after visiting the SS Great Britain and we ordered Scotch egg with couscous and butter beans with humous and it was scrummy! Not what I usually eat but I would've happily had another plate of it. For afters, I had lemon sorbet ice cream and gluten free chocolate cookie and they were also scrummy. To sum up, I had a top class meal and I'd go there again next time I visit Bristol. Well done Better food cafe!

I think the food is really good value, my gripe is the service is really, really slow, very pleasant and polite staff but achingly slow. If you've got an hour to kill and fancy a nice breakfast and a coffee, do it, if like me you haven't got an hour to waste on a weekday morning, find somewhere else but for a Saturday or Sunday its hard to beat. The service in the supermarket is also slow but if you can be bothered to wait thats also really good value.

I need to preface this review by saying I love the better food company. It's products are great quality and I would recommend it whole heartedly however... I am so disappointed by the new redesign of the cafe which has all the cakes out on the counter. I watched as a myriad of customers' sleeves, cardigans and bags knocked the food and it made my stomach turn. It seems like really poor practice in terms of hygiene and infection control. Argh! Please change this so I can enjoy your cakes again!

We've eaten here most weeks this year – its food is a little bit variable in quality but is well worth a visit. And an excellent organic shop with a big choice of produce.

Gentrification has ups and downs. Rising house prices will drive out many existing residents and having a nice local organic cafe is probably not going to to do much to make up for this. However, ignoring the politics, we had a healthy lunch of salad and a special pork stew. I had the stew which was sort of tasty but I had to add some salt and pepper when I thought no one was looking. Not cheap at £16.45 (inc coffee) but I hope and expect that the staff are paid a living wage at least.

I went with my young son and wife during the run up to Christmas where I had booked a week off work to get my Christmas shopping done. It was a good day out overall, but sadly my attempt at some respite in this Costa was thwarted by one abhorrently rude member of staff. It started when I ordered our drinks at the till. Mine and my wife's drinks were fine, but when I asked about the free 'babycchino' for my son, the woman on the till- Anna- told me they had run out of the small cups for the kids drinks and that they'd have to charge us for a whole regular size cup of milk if we wanted one! After stating the obvious that Anna could simply put a small amount of milk in a regular cup, she huffed, poured out the drinks and abruptly handed me the tray. When we sat down, the tables were messy and sticky. Granted it was busy and the run up to Christmas, but basic hygiene is not a duty that should be shirked. After finishing I needed to use the restroom, so I went to the right of the tills and queued for use of the loo. When I got in there I could hardly breathe. The smell was awful. I went straight out to the tills and spoke to Anna again to tell her that the their toilets needed attention. I got the same huffy attitude from Anna who told me that they were nothing to do with her as the toilets were managed by Primark. She didn't even contact her Primark colleagues or a manager to let them know that someone had smeared excrement on the floor in there. Truly a shocking experience.

Just went here to meet a group of my colleagues for something to eat and was told that they were doing takeaway only .I asked if they had changed the closing time as it was only 3pm and she replied that they were closing early as it had been quiet ! I ordered a takeaway coffee and phoned friends to change cafe .Photo is of the large cappuccino! Half a cup of cold coffee. Don't bother going here lots more lovely coffee shops close by.

Turned up at 1720 to have a juice but was told by a rather sullen lady that I could only have coffee as they were closing at 6. Then she over charged me.. not very welcoming.

Branch in the Royal West of England Art Gallery, Queen’s Road, Bristol. Summer infusion teas were totally stunning and, unlike most cafes, had no sugar or syrup in them. Peach/Berry was superb and the Earl Grey (tho obviously a bit sour due to its nature) was also v good. (1 other flavour I didn’t try). Staff exceptionally friendly & helpful. Lovely venue (inside the Gallery building) with metal seats (I think it was) & small tables outside. NOTE a year’s Pass is currently £16 to visit exhibitions as much as 1 wants, so only about £5 or less each time.
