The room was lovely, BUT I don't recommend staying here at the weekend and definitely not in December unless you plan to be up late. We stayed for a Friday night as a couple with a baby, there was so much noise from the people hanging around outside that it was impossible to get to sleep. This became much worse at both midnight and 1 am when the 2 different parties they had ongoing kicked out and everyone piled into the car park talking/shouting and singing. I don't blame these people, it is the fault of the hotel not having adequate sound proofing.

Stayed at this hotel for a number of weeks due to work commitments and it’s been a huge disappointment so far. Biggest issue is service, for a ‘4 star’ hotel it is way below standard from check in to check out and everything in between. Totally unprofessional and impersonal throughout. We’ll start at the bar where a queue of three people may take 10 minutes due to the bar staff having to serve meals to tables as well as serve drinks. The restaurant is very rarely busy yet the ‘restaurant manager’ will often walk past the bar and see a queue yet ignore it.

I have stayed at the Best Western Plus / The Moat House Hotel Eturia, Hanley Stoke on Trent. I was able to stay at this Posh hotel in S-o-T, Because i came into funds from my late mums estae. I am just a ordinarey person who was able to spend some lovley time at this Hotel, which has Lovely & Polite people working for it. I only have a couple of small niggles? 1. The second room i stayed in ( for my 2nd visit ) room 334, backs onto the area opposite where the lifts are. So every time the lifts are used? I could hear them weering up & down. 2. The late time of evening dinner ( only personley speaking ). But all in all. The Moat House Hotel, soon to be part of a differant chain Is a Lovley place to stay, with Very Polite Staff, & lovley food. Good Luck for the future Moat House Hotel.

Went to see the Gok Wan Show which was absolutely brilliant. The hotel on the other hand was disgraceful. The ballroom was way too hot. Despite requests from guests and Gok there was no aircon on. Everyone was melting. There was a lack of staff on the bar. 300 people and one bar staff. Ridiculous. We were told there was table service but you had to go to the bar to pay so was useless. Staff disengaged and rude. It was embarrassing. At one point Gok’s operations team were serving people at the bar because the queue was so long. The bar wasn’t stocked properly and ran out of gin and mixers. Extremely disappointing and embarrassing to host an event like this with rubbish service. This is barely a 3 star hotel.

Weekend away catching up with family - welcoming and clean hotel. The folks on reception were lovely as were the ladies in the restaurant at breakfast, good customer service. Rooms were clean and tidy although we were a little surprised, having booked 2 x twin rooms to be given 2 family rooms with a double bed and bunk beds! Our cousins had their room changed, sister and I kept ours as no others available and she slept on bottom bunk whilst I had the double, lol. Lovely evening meal in the bar & a Fabulous breakfast available with plenty of choice on offer and plenty of free parking - you must remember to add your registration number to the system on reception desk though to avoid a fine....

We booked for an afternoon tea and were extremely disappointed in the experience. We were the only people in the restaurant. There was no atmosphere, heating or lighting. I asked twice for the lights to be put on so we could see what we were eating, but it probably would have been better if were left in the dark. It should have been a normal afternoon tea, but became a festive afternoon tea, with mince pies (Mr Kipling) and miniature xmas puddings (yuk to both, specifically wouldn't have ordered a festive one because of this). We weren't asked if we were vegetarian or had any allergies. The cheapest possible sandwich fillers were supplied, cheese, egg, tuna & ham. The scone had fresh cream rather than clotted cream. Altogether a very disappointing experience. I wanted more tea, but had finished the food before anyone checked on us. I wouldn't go back again if they paid me to eat there!

I get the feeling that the Moat House thinks that guests staying on business won't be bothered to look around for somewhere to eat and just plonk with the easy option of eating in. This is reflected in a very average menu at what is above average prices for what you get. The food was ok but uninteresting and the desserts a joke for what you pay. The staff are pleasant enough though and do their best for you. Eating here is the easy option but if you want something better, both in quality and value, take a stroll out.

We arrived here last Friday to 'enjoy' a meal with Friends. The interior and exterior are indeed dated, however the toilets are clean and modern. The Staff are friendly and the menu is varied, but the items are overpriced. One of my party members ordered the Salmon and Risotto which cost £16! I ordered the confit duck which was fine although it looked raw. Next I had the haddock. The haddock and peas were dry and tasteless. The 'oven-baked' chips were cold. Afterwards we all had tea which tasted fine.

I do not usually write negative reviews as every business has its off days but this was exceptionally disappointing. There were a dozen of us who needed refreshments at an unusual time of day. It was suggested we try afternoon tea at the Most House at £17 a head, I booked several days in advance, paid £237.30 and was offered sandwiches, cakes, scones, tea and coffee, which sounded perfect. I was told the teas would be portioned, implying it would arrive plated for each individual. However, that was not the case, the food was put on a small side table, buffet style. The service was poor, there was very little food or the money and the waitress kept disappearing when we needed assistance.

The Best Western in Stoke Moat House is a real hotel of contradictions. We stayed there for 2 nights on a family break to Alton Towers and it seemed for every good point there was an equally negative one. Good Points-The bedroom was large and very comfortable-Staff in the restaurant were very friendly and helpful-Swimming pool nice bonus to have-Good breakfast-Pretty good value for money price for 2 nightsNot so great-Staff on reception (check in and departure) grumpy and miserable. Surely a welcoming smile is not too much to expect? Nothing about the hotel or facilities explained-Restaurant food in the evening way over priced and pretty terrible.-Swimming pool needs renovation -For me too far from Alton Towers with a good 40 minute drive-Hotel pretty dated decorSo all in all, the hotel is average. Not terrible but certainly a long way from being great. Price point was good but the reception staff and evening restaurant food need urgent attention

The food was average. We were staying at the hotel and the weather was terrible so we ate there Saturday and Sunday night. Saturday was better in every way than Sunday - I think it must have been a different chef. For example, a starter we had on Saturday was half the size and lacking some ingredients on Sunday. Saturday staff were excellent; Sunday staff got things wrong twice and we had several longish waits for things we ordered. Maybe it was because they had a function on in another part of the hotel.

We stayed for 1 night, got a really decent bed and breakfast rate. The hotel is near lots to do - cinema, waterworld, bowling, shops. It's a big building but feels quite disjointed. The reception is on the 1st floor with the bar, restaurant and leisure club on the ground floor. Everywhere you look it is crying out for a good clean and a refurbish. Our bath handles were old and probably would come off with a strong pull. Decent breakfast, didn't get chance to use the pool. Quite noisy with a function on and we were on the second floor and could hear a squeaky door on the floor below!

A party of over 20 friends attended this event. Table 14 in the name of "Janet Webb" was our table. We all enjoyed the food and the entertainment but a couple of unfortunate experiences with drinks from the bar cast a shadow over an otherwise good evening. At the bar adjoining the party ballroom I ordered a gin & tonic and a vodka & coke and was charged £17.35; the barman then said the drinks were doubles, which I had not ordered. I accepted the drinks as there was a queue and I did not want to cause a fuss. My friend later went to the same bar, asked for a vodka & coke and was charged £8.05 for a double when she had not asked for a double; she similarly accepted the drink and paid for it, but we were both very annoyed by this. If we had wanted doubles we would have asked. After that, we did not order any more drinks !

When the food arrived my friends prawn sandwich arrived with egg shell in it. My other friend ordered a chicken sandwich. And that had bacon on with it. I find this rather disturbing as my daughter has a server egg allergy. This was put right by the very helpful waiter. And the manageress didn't seem to give a damn. As we walked out she didn't even acknowledge us. I certainly won't be visiting again.

Five of us went on Thursday last for the first time, and sadly the last. The atmosphere in the restaurant was that of a department store cafeteria. We were greeted when we entered the restaurant with Hi Guys.Well we were three sixty plus ladies, and two equally aged gents. Not exactly a suitable wekcome. We decided not to have individual starters, but bread and olive nibbles instead. These were very tasty and enjoyable, but were served on slate platters with no plates. Not very acceptable. We weren't terribly impressed with the a LA carte menu, but all found a dish that we thought we would enjoy. The food was a very long time coming ,and we were all very disappointed with it.It was all a bit dry, and all presented with some soggy oven type chips, plus a salad consisting solely of watercress. However we did have a good bottle of wine ,and as we were using our gourmet society card had 25% off the bill. Having said that,we have had this offer now in many participating restaurants ,and enjoyed every other meal we have had.I have to say that the Hotel itself looked amazing.A lovely building and an impressive reception area.

By the time we had our shower and got ready it was about 9.30pm, so we decided to eat from the bar restaurant. We had a few drinks and was informed last orders for food was 10.30pm. So we ordered our food about 10.15pm. The bar staff were very polite and friendly, and service was good. I wanted extra spice adding to my chicken curry and the chef did that for no extra cost for me. When the food arrived it looked great, and everything was tasty and fresh. We always eat out but we would definitely eat in this bar restaurant again rather than go out. The lounge area was nice and peaceful. A eviter.

Booked into the restaurant as part of dinner bed and breakfast package. Service was not good and food was very average. Breakfast was rushed the next morning with our crockery and cups being take away before we had finished!!

Arrived at the hotel last night whilst on a New Year Mystery Tour with our local coach firm. The hotel, rooms, staff and food so far very very good. We are here for 3 nights and we know we will enjoy the experience. We are looking forward to our Gala Dinner this evening.

Visited with the girlfriend on a Saturday night weekend break deal which was actually great value . Forgetting the price paid and looking through objective eyes the experience was quite mixed.Good ThingsNice welcoming staffNice bar and restaurant Good food breakfast and evening mealSpa/Leisure okDo Better ?Cold in room on arrival about 3.00 pm was told heating would come on at 6 , phoned again and told just putting it on (7), was brought up an electric heater !!Fire alarm went off 3 times in Sat/Sun told there was a fault, cold outside and faulty system not good for safety.Regimental reunion on and some really loud bad language at bar in front of guests and a pensioners tour, unchallenged by staff. In summary a nice hotel on business / retail park just let itself down a bit

Looks fine but needs better management. Only one person on reception when we arrived meant a wait and the self service breakfast indicates low staff numbers. The promised morning paper did not materialise even when reminded though repairs to the leaking shower hose and bathroom fan were carried out expeditiously. Breakfast was excellent though it was self service, and the staff in the bar were sensitive to our desire to play a board game without constant drinks. We were here 10 years ago and things have slipped.

We were lucky enough to be invited to a fundraiser for the local hospice. The room was set out beautifully, which I expect was in part down to volunteers. The bar and wait staff were professional and attentive. Considering this was mass catering the food was tasty, plentiful and hot. The pudding of crumble with popping candy was right up my street. the only disappointment was I would have liked more coffee.I would certainly consider using this venue for a large function or conference.

Both bar and General restaurant tried, reasonably poor. Service a little average, bar food not good. Restaurant attempt terrible initially and when returned food did come back better...but could do without hassle to receive it right. Would rather have made it myself!Sure they can do better, so maybe this represents 3 poor meals...though can I risk trying again to get a good one?.... ... ...

This is the first time I've eaten in the restaurant. It has a reasonable selection of food. However, the "best seller" fish and chips was a disappointment. Batter was soggy in places and fish had quite a few bones. Service was very good though.

Well. Having only last week stopped in Stoke at alternative accommodation - it was a nice surprise to come to such a welcoming, friendly and very clean hotel. This has put my faith back into the hotel industry. From arrival with a lovely receptionist, lovely food and all the staff having a smile on their faces makes all the difference. Linda sawkins couldn't have been any more helpful, after a great nights sleep and friendly and welcoming face- thanks Linda. Would I stop again - defiantly this is the only place in the local area I would hope to stop at. Thanks all.

Took my mum for afternoon tea and from the moment we walked through the door the staff were extremely friendly. Lovely atmosphere whilst enjoying the fantastic afternoon tea with a tipple of prosecco. Very nice. Phil could not have made us feel more comfortable. Can honestly say the staff made the whole time thoroughly enjoyable. And we both agreed that Dawn deserved a bacon sandwich from Phil in a morning. Highly recommend.

My husband's works do at the Moat House cost £30 per head including a Take That tribute band. I expected good food with entertainment. My first impression was of everyone being seated so closely that parties resembled sardines and being claustrophobic was unable to sit anywhere but at the end of the table. There was no elbow room whatsoever so I observed that eating was clearly uncomfortable with elbows tucked in unnaturally. The 'winter vegetable' soup was blended veg the consistency of baby food with a bit of chilli. It looked and tasted absolutely disgusting. I couldn't even eat the bread roll being gluten intolerant. I patently waited for the main course having selected the vegetarian option to avoid Christmas Turkey overload. This was brie and chestnut tart. What had escaped my notice when ordering this was the cranberry glaze so essentially this was cheese, broccoli and jam tart - yuk! Had it been edible it would probably have fed a 2 year old baby such was the size. The accompanying vegetables were no better in portion size and whilst the half carrot was cooked to a satisfactory al dente standard the half dozen green beans were virtually raw. The 2 tiny roast potatoes and 2 thin strips of roast parsnip were the only acceptable components of the whole meal and the only things that I was able to eat. The meal was so sparse that a heap of Rocket leaves were added in a bizarre attempt to make the proportions look adequate - yes Rocket leaves with a cooked dinner. At this point it was 9.30 pm and I still hadn't eaten and I had to work the following day. We decided to leave to pick up a takeaway on the way home necessitating abandoning the entertainment, which at this point had yet to make an appearance, after complaining to the manager. The attitude of the manager was as appalling as the food. His attitude being that I was the only person to complain about the food and not much food was being returned to the kitchen, therefore, my compliant was unfounded. Believe me, I was not the only person unsatisfied, I was only able to hear the comments of a few and they were not any happier than I was. I can only assume that people will put up with anything at their works Christmas parties being more interested in the alcohol than the food - it's the only explanation. The reason that so little food was being sent back to the kitchen is that there was so little to eat in the first place that people were having to eat it or go hungry and were probably hungry if they did eat it so scant were the portions. The manager offered me a bar meal to compensate. I declined being all too aware of the dirty tricks applied to the food of those who dare to complain in the catering world. I told the manager that the combination of cheese and jam was unpalatable and he spoke to me as though I am ignorant, explain that the jam was a 'cranberry glaze'. Yes, it was - fruit and sugar = jam! Further, during my complaint to the manager I revealed that I am not vegetarian and was asked why I didn't want the turkey then, suggesting that it was compulsory if I was not vegetarian. I explained that I was avoiding the Christmas overload and was offered chicken! I am unable to comment on the pudding, as I had to leave to get a takeaway before I saw or tasted this although I have no reason to believe that this would have been any better than the first 2 courses that I had paid for. Having paid £60 for our tickets I left with my husband (who had managed to eat a little) hungry and without having the benefit of the entertainment that we had also paid for. My whole experience was diabolical and exacerbated by the manager's attitude when I had the audacity to complain. I will never return to this place and seriously recommend that it is avoided if you wish to eat.

I attended a business meeting this week at found the facilities to be comfortable and very suitable but I had the unfortunate experience of eating there. It was a buffet style meal with a few pieces of meat some grated cheese and some bread which was so dry I thing it was sliced the day before.I will think twice if I am asked to go there again

A group of 12 of us visited the spa at the weekend for a hen party. We had food after our treatments. The staff were all really nice and very helpful! 3 of the girls wanted something that wasn't on the menu, the girl who worked behind the bar managed to sort out what they were after. Thank you for helping to make my friends hen do so special! We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend. Thank you!

Can't explain how bad it was. At least 15mins to place my order. Waited half an hour for my order by time my order came I had drank my tea. Only ordered a toasted teacake and kids meal. It wasn't even what you would call busy loads of spare table. My grandson fell asleep waiting for his after saying wheres my dinner so slow.
