We had dinner at the Beaumont and really enjoyed it. The soufflé was perfectly cooked and really delicious. Both main courses (duck and venison) were a joy to eat - really good to see a restaurant which uses ingredients such as parsnip and beetroot in their dishes. Service is attentive and helpful. The accoustics can be a bit of a problem once the place fills up and it gets a little noisy, but overall an excellent meal and good value for money. I'd certainly go back.

My wife and I had a very nice dinner at the restaurant at the Beaumont. I had the steal tartar served with an egg yolk, micro herbs and toasted focaccia. It was very nice. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her oysters with shallots in vinegar. They looked very plump. We both had the chicken off the josper grill with skin on fries and spinach. The chicken was moist with a crispy skin. Neither of us could eat more than the breast. The rest was packed up for us to take home. The chips were hot and well seasoned. The spinach was just wilted and was delicious. Service was friendly and competent.

Excellent delicious food but unfortunately not the service to match it. The drinks took forever and some had to be individually prompted after giving up on the table service. Then we weren’t monitored for drinks status so did not get either the table water, wine or other drinks topped up during the meal as required either. The birthday cake took forever to come back after cutting and also had to be chased down. 5 star food with 2 star service.

Just utterly delicious! We didn’t book but they squeezed us in for dinner on a Friday night. Service was incredible. Every single course was perfect. Especially recommend the puddings. Also for the standard of food you receive I would say it’s reasonable. Makes it very difficult to eat anywhere else it’s that good!!!!!

We have been regular visitors to the Beaumont for drinks and dining and have been generally pleased with the overall experience. However on this occasion, the setting and service was poor. We had booked this occasion long in advance as we were meeting up with friends who we had not seen for some time. It was a special occasion. The table had not been set up particularly well, the service was chaotic and often abrupt. My wife waited for her main course long after others had been served and was then told that the chef was unhappy with the dish and was re-doing it. It eventually arrived long after the other guests had eaten theirs. Even though they offered a complimentary glass of wine to my wife as compensation; this was inadequate to overcome our disappointment We then noted that the waitress was sorting the linen in the restaurant area. Not very professional. There was no shortage of staff, just poor organisation and management. We will think twice about re-booking.

I took my friend for lunch for her birthday. What an absolutely fabulous experience. From the minute we walked through the door we were treated like special guests. The staff were courteous, attentive and professional. The restaurant was beautifully laid out and the menu had a great range of food We had steak, perfectly cooked, with additional sides. Portions were perfect, in fact we ordered too much, and the quality of the food was outstanding. One of the nicest meals I've had. Only negative, I was too full to order a dessert. Could not fault a thing, eating there was an absolute pleasure.

We met some friends for a 3 night break. We all loved this hotel. The staff on reception were very welcoming and helpful, letting us get into our room early and advising us on parking. The room had everything we needed with a large comfy bed and a nice, clean bathroom . Breakfasts and Dinners had a large choice of delicious food . Everything was cooked to perfection! We can honestly say that the staff are the best , most helpful , friendly and accommodating team we have met in a hotel. Hexham is a great base for visiting Northumberland especially Hadrians Wall. We wish we could have stayed longer and recommend The Beaumont Hotel for anyone staying in the area.

17 doddery old fools who think they are still 18 years old, assembled at the Beaumont yesterday for Sunday lunch. We would like to compliment the staff on their professionalism and patience. It can't have been easy to keep smiling. The lunch was delicious and plentiful and we were welcome to dwell after our meal. Everyone said how much they'd enjoyed the whole afternoon. Thank you, Beaumont. Sorry but we do intend to return.

Called in to the Beaumont for a cup of tea with five friends yesterday around 3:30pm.. It was nice and quiet and as always the surroundings and the staff were very pleasant. The tea was served individually in Suki style teapots. There was one teabag in each pot and they were only half filled with boiling water - it was enough for one small cupful. When we asked for additional hot water, it was brought in a very small pot. We said that we would probably need a bit more water, but eventually had to go and seek someone out. We knew that the Beaumont wasn't the cheapest place in town, but at £3:45 a cup we expected a decent amount of tea.

This is a great restaurant. We were very impressed indeed with breakfast. We are both vegetarian and they made a delicious combination of mushrooms, eggs, tomatoes, beans and spinach. The tomatoes were the tiny tasty ones and everything was delicious, accompanied by a good selection of breads and excellent coffee. there was also a great range of fresh fruit, cheeses, and pastries. We would definitely dine here again - and the service was superb.

I booked a table for 3 for Mothers Day, 4 weeks in advance. The staff were very polite and can't be faulted, but we were sat upstairs in the corner, and out on a small single table with hardly any room for anything other than our plates - to the point where our server had to leave our bottle of wine on the floor. Our starters (croquet and trout) were lovely, but the mains were very poor in comparison. 2 had the beef, and 1 had the cod. The cod had a huge bone left in it which was incredibly disappointing. The beef was nice, but the garnish was too sweet, and wasnt pleasant at all. We've visited the Beaumont a few times and have always had a lovely experience. Sadly, this time they fell very short of their usual high standards.

We booked an early dinner slot before attending The Sixteen concert in the Abbey on the other side of the road and I would estimate from the clientele that a goodly number of them would be wending their way there as well. My wife uses a wheelchair which apart from the reviews was the main driver for eating their because of the access. Two lowish steps to get in (a ramp in available). We were expected and welcomed before being escorted to a well-accessible table which did involve a slight adjustment of the sofa behind it to allow the chair in. Good selection of dishes on a slightly restricted menu which I take to be a good sign - my wife had skate, I went for the venison and we were both very pleased with the dishes and service. The house wine was reasonably priced and decidedly decent. Creme brulee just right and apple in calvados delicious. All well priced too. One issue - there is a disabled WC which is fully accessible (sone arent elsewhere!) but the mirror over the handbasin is too high for those in wheelchairs. Just a thought.

Went there today for Sunday lunch.Soup was very watery. The chicken was so salty I'm not sure if the chef accidentally put far too much salt in as a drink if water was needed after every bite. The beef was 1/4 fat and only two thin slices with fat cut off was not much.one roast potato a spoonful of mash one parsnip a giant Yorkshire pudding presumably to fill you up.I was really looking forward to this but felt very deflated.the cauliflower cheese was one floret each with no spoon or extra fork for sharing bowl so didn't want to use forks we had in our mouths. There was some mashed veg turnip I think and some green slimy stuff. Also we had 25 minutes wait between courses.Maybe we were just unlucky and the chef had a bad day as other reviews are good.

Like so many wonderful restaurants, Sunday Lunch often comes up short. We were greeted with a somewhat indifferent host, and we had a pleasant drink whilst we waited for friends to join.Impressed and encouraged by how busy the place was we were looking forward to our Lunch.Service was quick enough, with a serious but professional enough waiter (what is it with the lack of friendliness and warmth). Great choice of Sunday Lunch menu - something for everyone.Cheese soufflé was excellent for starters.Unfortunately for our table of 4, 2 of the mains were hot and 2 were cold. The waiter willingly removed the 2 ….. 10 mins later, our friends had finished theirs and we got a replacement. Not the best scenario. One little gripe too - what’s the new fashion for drowning plates in gravy - May suit some, but I think gravy on the side is a better option then everyone is satisfied in their own gravy liking.Pudding - mixed bag. Cheesecakes all looked lovely, and we’re well received but the sticky toffee pudding was dry and not sticky. So, maybe we just had a bad experience because given how busy it was it’s certainly popular, and we went based on the invitation of our friends and Gracie Dent’s comments. We’d try again but for week day Dinner maybe.A bit of tweaking and it’d be too marks.

We don't write reviews but felt that this experience was so impressive that we had to share it...We spent a long time researching a local place to go to for our wedding anniversary. We are so pleased that we went to The Beaumont - what a find! The food was excellent - all three courses delighted and were cooked to perfection. The starters ranged in price from £7-10 and included beef tartare, and roasted apricots with buttermilk, which were delicious. The mains ranged in price from £13-20, we had a burger and a steak - again, perfectly cooked. The desserts were fantastic and included cheese dishes with local cheeses, chocolate mousse, and coconut souffle. All averaging £8. We were encouraged to relax and take our time with our meal. The staff were attentive, courteous, caring and kind -they reserved a parking space, lent us a parking disc, gave us surprise chocolates and tea/coffee when they discovered the reason for our visit! We sat in the open doors to the outside opposite the Abbey gardens and it was peaceful. The place was very Covid secure and spotlessly clean. The owner/ manager (?) was training a new member of staff during our visit - we were impressed with their patience and kindness towards her, despite it being quite busy. The food was incredible - well done, tasty, beautifully presented, not trying to be too clever. The team in the kitchen (all on display) were working tremendously hard as were all the waiting staff. As said, the menu is simple and works beautifully. The wine list is short and covers all bases in that there is something on it for everyone's taste, price or otherwise. The entire place is spotlessly clean. Go and see for yourselves. Tremendously good. Well done to the imaginative chef and the rest of the front of house and kitchen team. I'd be surprised if they don't win a few regional awards here. Finally, the price - really, really reasonable. Something of this outstanding quality in London would have easily cost twice the price.

Our food (risotto, lamb, soufflé and raspberry chocolate dessert) was delicious and the service was warm and efficient. We only heard about this place from reading the review by Grace Dent two days earlier and enjoyed it enormously after a busy day at Hadrian's wall.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights and planned to eat once in the restaurant and once somewhere else in the town. We failed to find anywhere else in Hexham to eat out on a Monday night, so dined at the Beaumont the second night too.The food was amazing both evenings. The menu didn't change but it was varied enough to satisfy us on each occasion. The first evening we sat on the quieter left-side of the restaurant. The second evening we were on the busier right-hand side and could see the professionalism of the kitchen through the open plan layout. The food was perfectly cooked and presented, served attentively but not obtrusively. I would most definitely dine here again.

Efficiency everywhere - reception, waiting staff, food service, responsive to problems. Lovely, rather quirky hotel in the centre of historic Hexham. They coped brilliantly with our 16 strong group’s needs. The food was fabulous- range, quality, speed, presentation.

The Beaumont does it well. This all day restaurant/Bistro trades on a warm atmosphere and friendly staff with a limited menu that is excellent. We ordered the charred mackerel and then the steak and turbot for main. courses. The mackerel was stunning - crisp on the outside and soft and meaty inside with a crisp salad. The steak was divine - its one of the best I had for a while. perfectly cooked and presented with an elegant sauce. The Turbot was stunning. This came with an excellent bottle of wine, bread and a shared desert for £90 and was worth it... excellent

Four of us booked dinner at the Beaumont. Two of the party had the chicken dish which was fine. However two of us ordered the risotto at £14. When it came it was a very small serving of glutinous of risotto with nothing to accompany it. It was unlike any risotto I have eaten anywhere and extremely poor value for money. Furthermore, the acoustics were very poor making conversation difficult. We will not be returning.

We visited this restaurant twice over the half term whilst on holiday in Northumberland. We were not let down the food was exquisite beautifully presented in a wonderful environment which was very accommodating for us as a family also. We visited early in the evening and the weather was great so the front doors were open I had a really great atmosphere between us and over the two visits I think we had quite a few of the main dishes on the menu all of Which were cooked to perfection. The kids food from the kids menu was also really well Cooked and really well presented. It was a really nice place and I would highly recommend

In my view there are only two really excellent restaurants in Hexham this one and Bouchon . If you like good food these are the places to eat.The Beaumont have set up a marquee-type outdoor restaurant in the grounds of Hexham Abbey to cope with current regulations and the results are excellent. The menu is , of course more limited than normal but the results are still outstanding. Congratulations to the team here on their efforts as it is simply a pleasure to eat here.

I was staying near Hexham for a long weekend. Visiting Hexham, and looking for a nice cafe to relax, have a coffee and a bit of lunch, the Beaumont Hotel was recommended to me by a local. I was surprised - a hotel...surely not... there must be nicer inner town cafes? But it was amazing, such an atmospheric, spaceous, beautifully stylish cafe, with great service and wonderful coffee and food. You could spend all day here, just soaking up the atmosphere. Hugely recommended, when in Hexham, do as the locals, go find the Beaumont.

We had dinner here two nights on our stay. Had cheese souffle and pork cheek for starters and then steaks one night. They didn’t have peppercorn sauce on the menu but made one up for us and it was tasty. Also a nice romantic setting to eat.

Great service and great food. The venison main course was one of the best venison dishes i've ever had; all the flavours and textures complemented each other perfectly. We also had the cheese soufflé and chicken leg raviolo, both were first class.Desserts: we had the pineapple and the chocolate fondant. Most impressed with the standard of food.

We made it clear from the start we just wanted to a drink and a cake. Waitress huffed and puffed as she’d set the table for a meal. From that we were not made to feel very welcome, which was s shame as it had been recommended to us.Service was slow and quite abrupt.

Group of 6 ordering meals. All looked good quality, mains pricing between £14 and £24. I feel there was much concentration put in to the artistic side of the dishes than a wholesome meal. The pork meal looked very pretty and an entry into Masterchef, however 5 bitesize pieces of pork did not cover the hunger and looked more like a starter. The eat out to help out scheme lightened the blow of the pork meal not costing the full £17, however I feel the portion sizes needs to be addressed as otherwise this rating would have been a 5/5.

Had lunch here today with my partner during a road trip stop The wait staff were outstanding, and the food was brilliant. We had the steak tartare as a starter, the gnocchi with mushrooms and an open smoked salmon and pickled cucumber sandwich. It was so good we decided to ask for the dessert menu -I had the pannacotta and he had a cheese platter. Everything was evidently prepared in house (their own pickles, hand made gnocchi etc) and presented with flare and passion. Even better, there was nothing pretentious about the place, it was just relaxed, excellent food with great staff. We really enjoyed ourselves and it looked like everyone around us did too.If covid measures are so.ething you like to see, it's one of the few places we've found in the north with wait staff wearing masks and well spaced seating. Batbroom doors are ajar and taps are hands free.

The ambience of the hotel is lovely, busy and lively. The staff very attentive. We ordered the steak (£24) but it was chewy, grisly and cold!!! The tiny bit of lettuce that was on the plate was wilted and not appealing, the pepper sauce was thin!!! The chips were delicious though. We ordered the steak as we had read reviews about small portions. Probably will no go back for food as so disappointing.

I will start by saying this is a lovely venue and the food is very nice. I have marked down for 2 reasons. Firstly there were no vegetarian starters and 1 main course the gnocchi that I think was but not entirely sure as parmesan isnt. I don't think its acceptable to not offer veggie choices nowadays. My 2nd negative is portion sizes. Tiny. If you order gnocchi you expect a bowl of it not 6 pieces on a plate with a few other bits and pieces. It was the most meagre main course I've ever seen. But it did taste lovely, just needed something to eat on the way home!

On the negativ side had to walk in road to enter restauran safely and portions may have shrunk. But hugely positive with a great range of tastes on my lamb and my wife's rump steak more like sirloin. Fondant slightly hard on exerior but we were just overoyed to find a safe place to enjoy good foos - worth the money eveb without Boris's "20 discount.

Outstanding service and excellent food. We arrived quite late in the evening as a party of five (including children) the waiter was wonderfully accommodating and found us an excellently-appointed table within moments (despite the evident busyness. Drinks and starters were immediately forthcoming with a great sense of hospitality. All three courses were excellent and the wine topped-up as you would expect from first-class waiting staff. Very impressive and well organised.

We had been staying for a few nights in Hexham and thought we would save what seemd to be the best restaurant to the last night. How disappointed we were. The ambience was good and waiting staff good apart from the masks which seem to cover nothing at all .However the food was a let down to us.I know that it is fashionable to serve small portions but when a dish sounds hearty in the description,it would be fair to warn the customer you may need extras. The cod was a small piece of fish with a tiny amount of gnocchi and mussels in a soup type consistency. The steak was tasty but small and fatty .We decided not to go for a sweet to be disappointed again.Got one of the Co-op instead.

Called in for coffee and scones. No details taken just told to take a seat anywhere. Waitress was wearing mask when coffee ready but when the waiter brought scones his mask was below his chin and leant right over me to place the scones on the table. Not very impressed at all.

Played today, Mon 26th August, Great layout, but sadly the greens are diseased and awful, and the tee boxes are terrible, very expensive bar, and no food being served, even though there was a competition on, and the bar was busy, Sadly one to miss in the future.

We visited Hexham yesterday and found this café in the Market Place, after a lovely River Tyne walk. It was quite busy at 1pm but we didn't have to wait long for our table. The girls made us feel very welcome and worked so hard while we were there clearing tables and getting everyone seated as soon as possible. My husband had a bacon sarnie and I had a ham and mushroom omelette which was so light and fluffy, delicious. Coffees were great too. Plenty of choice on the menu and great prices. Doggy friendly too with a treat for pooch 🐾

What a welcoming, hospitable place. If you ever need cheering up, this is the place to go. We were made welcome immediately, and tony the owner had us in stiches from the start. Everyone there were so friendly, and what had started as an intended short visit, led to us staying to closing. Met some brilliant characters, who all just made our day. Dog friendly too, which was an added bonus to us. Can't recommend enough.
