Bertinet Bakery in Bath and North East Somerset

Usually come here for a treat as they have the best baked goods in Bath! Today I purchased a coffee babka, and it was absolutely glorious with it's sweet, bready layers. Highly recommend going here.

Turned away at ten past nine on a Sunday morning. Local clients from Widcombe - we like to treat ourselves to a sourdough loaf at the weekend. Stopped at Bertinet this morning hoping to spend circa £8 on a loaf - which is about what they charge. Opening hours stated online and in the window as 9am on a Sunday, and we were told abruptly to leave and come back in 15-25 mins as they were “opening later today”. I recommend to avoid customer disappointment that you update your opening times to reflect accurate times at which you feel happy for people to come and spend money in your business. I question if the owner or manager even know that staff are turning customers away past the advertised opening hours to suit their mood on the day…Went round the corner to Mokoko where we got a hot fresh sourdough loaf for £4 and where we were warmly welcomed. Will be shopping there in future. Very disappointing communication and attitude from Bertinet. Not a great way to make money and build reputation! Lost potential regular clients today - people want reliability and honesty.

We popped in here on our visit to Bath. Have seen Richard on James Martin Saturday Morning, so wanted to try his produce. Amazing almond croissants! So full of frangipane, so flaky absolutely delicious worth every penny. Highly recommend.

The chocolate babka is to die for! Like a pain au chocolat on steroids!

Was looking in the window of this bakery while looking for a bit of breakfast and a coffee, a random guy passing stopped and told us that this is the best bakery in Bath... We were probably going in anyway, but this sealed the deal... Both the pastries we got were incredible. 2 drinks and 2 fat pastries, coming from London I was expecting around 20 quid, can to just over a tenner.

Incredible quality pastries, savoury and sweet. An absolute must visit if in Bath. Lovely duo working inside were very helpful and keen to chat and give us further recommendations!

This is a bias review as we were fortunate enough to grab a too-good-to-go bag from this bakery, but I am BLOWN AWAY. Firstly, I am from San Francisco and I hate to tell you but this is real sourdough. Yes, it is actually supposed to taste sour. I think anyone complaining about the sourness of the bread should leave sourdough alone and get plain bread instead. Secondly, the babka is the best I've ever had. It's moist and heavenly and a far cry from the dry, overcooked knots most bakers sell. The pain raisin? Exquisite. We spent the fall in Paris and didn't have a better one there. We were also graced with a cinnamon twist that was sinfully good. All of the puffed pastry gives a rich butter warmth and mouthfeel. I think the only letdown was in the baguette which felt more like a great flute of bread than a real baguette. It had a lovely graininess like the rest of the breads we tried, but I would expect a baguette to be crustier on the outside and softer and more fine on the inside. It was still a lovely piece of bread and this place deserves all five stars.

Almond croissants are huge here..and are absolutely delightful.A little more to pay than a supermarket but the taste and quality outweighs that😋

Croissants were good but so disappointed with sourdough loaf. Got it home and it was dry and over baked, seemed like it was couple of days old. Bertinet were once the best local bakers but can get much better quality from other bakers in the area.

This tiny shop is a hidden gem in Bath. We had the best almond croissants of our life 😋 🧡 Thank you 😊 🙏

This is a bakery my daughter worked for and in the time she was there she had 2 sick days and if you our or have been sick eg throwing up you our not supposed to work with food which she phoned in sick the to days she was working and when’t back on her next shift , two weeks later after working for them and making her work half the shift and the manager told here she was sacked for having 2 days off sick 2 weeks ago . So if think of working for them don’t not to be trusted and well i would think about buying food there from what she has told me cheers

I had the cinnamon bretzel and pistachio swirl, both are very good!

Nous avons acheté du pain au levain qui était excellent et s’est très bien conservé au congélateur (nous avons pris une demi meule). Cependant, la baguette à l’ancienne était sèche et pas assez salée. Nous reviendrons pour le pain au levain avec plaisir ainsi que pour tester les viennoiseries !

It was fine not very impressed with the pastry. Got an almond croissant a raspberry and white chocolate croissant and a pistachio swirl. Only the raspberry croissant lived up to expectations. The almond croissant tasted stale and the pistachio swirl has no pistachio filling.

Gorgeous little bakery. Everything looks delicious, and it's all freshly made. The staff are polite and helpful

THE best Almond Croissant I've ever had.

Almond croissant was amazing and so was the bread. The chocolate chip cookie looked and tasted slightly overcooked. Good prices.

Everything is so fresh and delicious. Best morning pastries in Bath & Bristol imo and real Italian tasting beautiful almond cookies. I wish they reopen a cafe.

Lovely and friendly Bakery Shop with a superb selection of breads that are baked in Bath. The pastries were lovely and freshly baked that morning. We had the cinnamon pretzel and chocolate babka, which were both lovely. Bonus being the coffee and pastry deal. Flat white was lovely. Superb Bakery shop is definitely worth a visit for a coffee ☕️ and pastry or just if you love great quality sour dough bread 🍞 😋 Definitely the best bakery shop in Bath 😁

Not worth the hype! I’ve been doing a tour of the best bakeries in bath, cycling over on the weekends from Bristol to a new bakery each time. Bertinet was high on the list, but unfortunately was very disappointed. My pistachios swirl was so doughy and soft as if yesterdays, but they claim it was made fresh that morning. There was no flake and crunch to the laminated pastry and dough was was almost raw inside. So bad it was given to the birds. Coffee wasn’t terrible though. Had better experiences at costa.

Dear. Monsieur Bertinet, I will give you my honest professionali opinion. Not judging you as a Maître Boulanger, but the quality of your product sold at the bakery. Over rated, and pricy for sure. I had big expectations, and even a Gails beats your product. The pasty was salty, the croissant... no different than Lidl (although Lidl is usually fresh, and yours was not). Same to say about the Pain au raisin, in this case au Pistachio, dry and stale(like, from 2 days before). The shop itself has no attractive features, very rustic and dated. The staff was definitely the ones that kinda saved the day, nice and friendly. But I'd rather eat a better quality pastry, because that is why I went there. Gave you 2 stars, because of the staff and the coffee, the rest was 1.

Excellent bread and pastries supplemented by surprisingly good coffee (one of my favourites in bath).

I just bought 2 pastries and one of them had a long blonde hair baked into it. Foul. PLEASE ensure all your staff wear appropriate gear so that this does not happen for other customers.

Everything is over cooked and burnt. I once got a toastie and nearly broke my teeth it was inedible. Pastries are black burnt why would anyone eat this stuff

The rosemary & sea salt focaccia is fantastic,we used to be able to get them from Gloucester services before we moved. We've not had one in about 6 years,as we were having a long weekend in Bath we treated ourselves to one - just as we remembered 😋 I had a steak & veg pasty, which is very nice but in my honest opinion, not worth the almost £6 I paid for it. 2 pieces of carrot, bit of onion but a nice nice amount of steak. The salted caramel brownie is amazing, but like the pasty not worth the £3.50 unless the portion size was bigger.

I recently visited Bertinet Bakery, after reading some great online reviews. Unfortunately, my experience wasn't as positive as I had hoped. The pastries I bought seemed a bit stale and not very fresh, which was a bit disappointing. On top of that, the staff didn't seem very welcoming, which added to my overall disappointment. That being said, if you're looking for some yummy baked goods and friendly service, I highly recommend checking out The Whole Bagel. It's just a quick two-minute walk away from Bertinet Bakery, and their bagels are always fresh and delicious. The staff is super friendly too - they always greet you with a smile!

This is the first place I came in Bath to get some amazing tasting bread & bakery products! I love "Real bread", and eat it everyday, but wanted to try their sourdough, as well as their lovely sausage rolls, cakes, and biscuits, etc. I spent nearly £75, and I can say that everything was eaten, with girlfriend & dog, too! If I am back in Bath, I will be back here to get their lovely bread & cakes! There is another bakery like them in Plymouth, called Jaka's(it is the oldest bakery in the UK, too!). Don't believe all these people who slag it off, as they don't eat proper food, all day, everyday, like me!!!

Incredible pastries. Sweet potato, mushroom and feta pasty was delicious and they have fresh hot ones. Pistachio swirl was huge 😍

Went in early morning 930am hoping to get some freshly bake bread but was a little disappointed the bread were cold. Got a chocolate babka which was not bad though.

I found it overpriced and didn’t like my pastry

It is hard to imagine eating a pasty, either steak or veg, that would be more tasty than those from the Bertinet bakery. The mushroom, feta and sweet potato pasty is particularly good. Equally, the chocolate swirl pastry is excellent, and both are very filling. It is more expensive than most bakeries - I was a bit surprised by the recent prices. However, everything I've had from here is very high quality, and time should be taken to enjoy it. Guzzling down anything from here, like one might with fare from cheaper places, would be missing the point.

We were in need of a snack to keep us going as we explored Bath, so when we passed this bakery and saw what they had in the window we had to give it a try. We had the chocolate babka and pistachio swirl, both of which were incredible and just what we needed.

Bakery not open at 8.30am on Monday. No sign explaining why it was closed.

Best bun I have had since moved to UK! I had a chocolate babka, and god the thingy melted in my mouth. So moist , tasty and yummy. Highly recommend!

The coffee was alright but the croissants ... They were at least 2 days old ... We also had a sausage roll, it was freezing cold and undercooked. Really disappointed.

Would be nice if they had some outdoor seating. A darling little place on a side street. The crescents were disappointing. The rosemary focaccia was quite good but definitely not like the focaccia of northern Italy. We bought a loaf of sourdough and it was fabulous. Nice strong sourdough flavor as it should be. Great crumb and crust. The sourdough bread from Thoughtful didn't really taste like sourdough. If you are looking for a really nice sourdough flavor come here!

Ordered 7 pain at chocolat, 7 croissants and 2 almond croissants to be collected the next morning at 0800. So disappointed as they were definitely not fresh that day - dry,cold and chewy and cost the earth. Never again!

We stopped off here on our last day in Bath, and brought the cookies home, and honestly they were 100% worth the wait! Gooey and delicious.

Bought bread, 2 x vege pasties, 2 x almond pasties, and other products on Monday. Were all delicious, and we will definitely return.

Sensational pastries, sadly abysmal coffee. Stick to the baked goods and you'll be delighted.

Popped into Bertinet Bakery this morning and bought an Oblong Sourdough loaf and a salted caramel chocolate brownie. The bread from this Bakery is outstanding! We never eat any other bread in our home due to the sheer quality of Bertinet. If you get the chance to visit the bakery it is well worth the visit. As for the brownie, salted caramel heaven! Update: I went in and bought a pear and hazelnut tart, which was incredible.

We popped into the Bertinet Bakery as we’d heard from another website that they sometimes have gluten free items.  Full 2* review at coeliacwellnes.com.  Alas, the lovely chap working in the store that day said they don’t do anything gluten free.  Take your gluten containing friends and family – but this place is not for us coeliacs.

Superb breads, cheese bread and focachia's too. Speciality croissants and the biggest chocolate croissants and cinnamon swirls you're likely to ever see. Best get there before lunchtime, as you may miss out!

Definitely the best bakery in Bath. Speciality croissants, scrumptious breads and the biggest chocolate croissants you'll likely to ever see. None of the other bakeries in Bath come close to Bertinet! Oh, and they had focaccia too.

Had a voucher 4 from Sainsburys Magazine £1 off bread bought white sourdough taste was Great made at the Bertinet Bakery Bath would recommend this to customers they have different varieties so check with your store to find the one that suits you

I strongly suspect I’ve been sold yesterday’s almond croissant. Hard, stale and lacking in filling. I’ve had better from a supermarket. The pain au chocolat and plain croissants were obviously over baked. Very disappointing, I’d expect much better for the price

Croissant was okay but not crispy enough for me. And I prefer cinnamon twist with stronger cinnamon flavor , it was not enough for me.

Absolutely gorgeous food, popped in for breakfast one morning whilst staying in Bath and wasn’t disappointed. I had the babka and my partner had a pain au chocolat. Both were fresh and tasty, would recommend 😍

Get here nice and early and there’ll be plenty of treats available. Babka and the pain aux raising were excellent, £1.6 for a coffee with a pastry too. Thoroughly recommended.

I visited the bakery today as one of my highlights to seeing Bath. I was very disappointed that by the time I arrived at lunch time there was hardly anything at all left. I would have thought a bakery should have had stock throughout the day. I popped in a purchased an almond croissant, however like the other reviewer mentioned this was very dry. I will not be returning if I am honest.

I had my first visit to bertinet since last august today and disappointed I was my almond croissant was so dry with none of that delicious almond filling it was an old one that had been around since yesterday They are usually fab but I think they have lowered their standards

Almond croissants, pancetta quiche and flat white was absolutely divine.

Went in to grab a cookie and ended up coming out with a free brownie as well because they needed to sell everything before the end of the day. The brownie was one of the best I've ever had and the cookie was pretty amazing too. The staff were lovely as well! Definitely worth a visit!

This place use to make the best Focaccia I’ve ever had with olives and rosemary when I use to live in Bath. unfortunately couldn’t find it in my last few visits and I really wish they will make it again. Still like to go there every time I visit Bath as their sourdough bread, danishes and cookies are the best in Bath.

Nice coffee and almond croissant. Had a bit of a queue when I visited so go early.

I come here often for a take-away morning croissant/ pastry. The quality is really good and there are always plenty of croissants, even late in the morning. A reliable choice! It could be considered slightly over-priced, but that's no different to other bakeries in Bath.

Fantastic pastries and the world's best Sourdough.

Went first thing in the morning to treat ourselves to fresh pastries but when we got them home were very annoyed to discover all 4 were hard and ice cold - tasted like they had spent the night in the fridge! Disappointing as there quality used to be very good but have obviously slipped....

We got a couple croissants this morning but felt like they had just come out the fridge. Disappointing.

Excellent sourdough bread, focaccia, croissants, etc. (their almond croissants are particularly delicious). I'm a regular customer and highly recommend them. Also sells coffee to go.

I recently discovered your sourdough bread whilst shopping at Waitrose. It is gorgeous, now my favourite loaf.

Tried the cheddar, onion and cumin loaf. Underwhelming to say the least. Tasted like supermarket bread. Not a fan.

Had some sourdough in a nearby cafe and was great but the cinnamon rolls and amaretti bought in store left us wanting for flavour! Definatily a bakery and not a patisserie.

Lovely quiche,Very tasty. Only issue was accessing the shop. I cannot manage steps and could not attract anyone's attention. Luckily another customer came along and helped.
