Cafe au Lait in Bath and North East Somerset

Would really recommend for a lovely breakfast. Centrally located in Bath next to all the attractions. Food was yummy and service was amazing.

The food in Cafe au Lait is delicious, the pancakes are huge, more than enough for 2 people to share. The staff serving were quite friendly, apart from the guy on the till when we went to pay our bill. My friend went to pay first paying what she owed. When I went up to pay for me and my daughter (£35 so not cheap anyway,) the man on the till said I had £45 left to pay.. presuming I was happy to pay the £10 service charge. I asked if it was optional, to which he huffed and said the bill had already been put through, he then went on to ask why I didn’t want to pay the service charge which made me feel very embarrassed and awkward! I am happy to give tips but I feel like it should be however much you can afford and £10 seemed very extreme especially when the service wasn’t the best and we had to ask for the bill as we felt we’d been forgotten about squished in the corner.

Excelente lugar con buen servicio y deliciosa comida. Fácil de encontrar enfrente de la estación de tren y un bonito entorno en el interior. Estaba muy ocupado un lunes por la mañana (hora de vacaciones escolares) y tuvimos que esperar una mesa por un corto tiempo. Otros que llegaron no pudieron sentarse. Teníamos inglés completo - carne y vegano - y los niños tenían (adultos) frambuesa dulce hilo panqueque especial. Todo estaba delicioso y muy bien presentado. Casa de frijoles horneados un punto culminante particular. Lo recomiendo encarecidamente. Con múltiples cafés y bebidas y servicio gastamos casi £ 90 para 4 de nosotros, así que ahorre para un regalo si usted va all in!

We visited this cafe recently and we were massively overcharged by at least 3 times what we had. We only realised afterwards and when we queried it all we got was they could nt do anything without the receipt which we were never given. I would suggest you always ask for a receipt when you visit this cafe. No one listened or offered to do anything about their mistake !!

Absolute find! What a gem of a place. Fantastic service, very attentive. Great location, wonderful atmosphere, and the food is sublime! 1000% recommend. We went for the bottomless brunch, which includes 1 breakfast dish (i had eggs Benedict.. which was super) and one pancake dish. With bottomless Peroni, Prosecco,Mimosa, or Orange Juice. I like the fact that they brought over ice buckets with the beers and Prosecco, so you didn't have to keep asking for refills. My only 1 criticism (and it's only small) I wish they would include coffee in the bottomless package. At £40 a head is good value. But paying for an additional coffee with my breakfast seems a bit silly when it is cheaper than the beer or Prosecco. However we would return, the food and service was second to none. Toilets are located down some steep steps, so may be a problem if you had any mobility issues.

Crammed tables but breakfast is very tasty. Quite pricey but tasted amazing. Service not up to par with the level of business on weekends. I felt ignored and things I ordered didn't come and I had to chase them.

food is delicious, by far the best english breakfast i’ve had! service isn’t the best & the prices are bit high for a cafe but it’s right across from the station and has a nice atmosphere.

Had a great breakfast here on our first day in Bath. We went for the breakfast bap which was loaded and really tasty. Coffee was good and the girls who served us were really friendly. There was good seating spread across 2 sections (watch the step!) of the cafe. They brought water over as soon as sat down too which is something I always appreciate. It is also right opposite the station, which is handy if you are coming in on train.

Open from 8.30 on a Sunday so perfect for a pre-train breakfast. Lovely staff, delightful food and nice relaxed atmosphere

The coffee is absolutely amazing, as well as the food. Really nice service.

Haven’t tried the food here but the drinks are good especially if you’re waiting for or just off a train, as it’s opposite the station. Not a place to work on a laptop though as they have signs on the table requesting you not to.

Had a lovely bottomless brunch. At a very reasonable price. The eggs Benedict was lovely. I will definitely be back.

Had breakfast yesterday, absolutely delicious! Great coffee. We arrived and there was a big queue, we had to wait only ten mins for a table, well worth the wait!

Delicious well presented food by very friendly staff. A little pricey (where isn't these days?!) I had a delicious veggie breakfast (£13ish), a delicious americano (£3ish) and the "special" apple crumble pancakes (£12) with "crème anglaise" (custard!), which was huge (I should have shared). The baked beans on the veggie breakfast were the best I've ever eaten - such yummy flavours and thoroughly cooked beans. Really nice bustling atmosphere right opposite the train station. Loo downstairs, and the kitchen. I thanked the chef for the delicious food but he was grumpy 🫤

Lovely food and service! The seasonal peppermint hot chocolate was amazing, and would 1000% recommend to try before it goes!

Went for brunch and was not disappointed, food was really good and not too expensive. Our server was lovely and chatty too!! was very quiet for about 2pm Saturday but atmosphere was great too

A cute little cafe that was a little less busy than some of the cafes closer to the highstreet, making this an ideal place to take a break from the bustling crowds. Lovely mocha and slice of cake from the kind staff.

Atractivo y popular café independiente con algunas opciones interesantes de desayuno y brunch. Mi capuchino era un poco más suave de lo que me gusta, pero mis compañeros descafeinado café con leche era muy bueno. El croissant de chocolate y avellana estaba bueno y el brownie de biscotti era rico y chocolatero. El servicio es un poco lento pero muy agradable. Frente a la estación de tren esta es una muy buena opción.

Absolutely loved the coffee, great coffee art. Being a Melbourne (Australia) coffee snob, it was a well brewed. The food was perfectly delicious from the thin sourdough to the real butter and good English crispy bacon. Thank you. Highly recommend this cafe in Bath.

Really delicious brunch and we got lucky to get a spot as it quickly got very busy with a long queue of people waiting for a table. The staff were very friendly and kept smiling and calm even with it being full with more and more people asking for a table. However, my only feedback would be that as people were queuing we could hear staff saying I think they will be going soon while indicating to our table. This was said several times, we were by no means slow or sitting there wasting time/not making purchases. We were then watched by the waiting people and it made us leave sooner than we would have liked despite both of us wanting another hot drink. We were the seated guests enjoying what was a really yummy plate of food and lovely hot drinks, it would have been far nicer not to feel like we needed to rush our last mouthfuls and leave so more people could take our spot.

Came for brunch and the food was great and staff friendly, however, it was SO loud in there I couldn’t hear myself think. Perhaps because the tables are very close together (maybe?) but yes it was so loud (clattering of kitchen/counter items and general noise level) it was impossible for us to have a conversation or hear one another properly without shouting...

Great coffee which is a rarity in the UK. Food was good, very enjoyable but nothing fantastic. Good for the price. Inside was quite stuffy, some air circulation would be nice but over all a good experience. Nice work on the coffee!

A great stop for a tea or coffee while waiting for the train. It gets quite crowded so you may need to wait for a suitable seat

The food in here seems to be very good, I think I should have ordered something else. My streaky bacon and pancakes were not like any pancakes I've had before nor ever want again. More like a bread roll. Everybody else's food looked good but I didn't enjoy mine.

Decent coffee, very sweet cookie, good if you have a sweet tooth! Avocado toast was on plain toast. All tasted fine. Handy for station, as right opposite.

I am just going straight to the point...I bought a bottle of nozecco (non alcoholic prosecco) for all of us to share. Which I wasn't expecting to pay £25.00 for!!! The reason for that price when asked why £25.00 for a non alcoholic bottle of prosecco (which at the most is £4.00), was, "we don't have a code and have never had a code so we charge at the same as a prosecco" this is unfair pricing, outrages!!!!

If you are looking for a great coffee and great service, this is the place to go. The staff are friendly regardless of how busy they are. Definitely my preferred place to grab a coffee on the way to the office.

This cafe is directly opposite Bath Spa train station. There is seating available outside, bar seating & several tables inside. They had many breakfast options including the usual Full English / breakfast baps, Eggs Benedict & veggie options. They also offer granola, porridge & several pancake options. We had a Biscoff & whipped cream pancake stack & porridge with berries & banana. Variety of milk choices are available for your drinks etc. Service was efficient & friendly & prices were reasonable.

Halloumi lovers unite! The place to be for an amazing brunch next to the station!

We just popped in while waiting for the train at Bath Station half expecting to end up in a tourist trap but we were very pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious (probably the best brunch we had in Bath) and staff were very friendly. We were just two people but they let us sit at a six person table so we had space for all our luggage and the wheelchair even though the restaurant was very busy.

This place is conveniently located opposite the station on the corner. The pancakes were amazing and they were potentially the thickest pancakes I’ve ever had. The lotus biscoff pancakes had a lot of sauce and the pancakes came out warm which made them taste even better. Loved them and if I were to stop off in Bath, I’d be sure to visit again.

Cafe au lait is a lovely little spot nestled right across Bath Spa train station. A lovely breakfast spot that offers a variety of options to cater to all people. The cafe is very homey and cute offering a lot of tables for the size. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, explaining and helping us with our order. The food arrived quickly and was absolutely delicious. Not only that but it was great value for money. I often hear that they serve the best pancakes in bath. I strongly back this and recommend Cafe au Lait for a nice breakfast or a coffee.

Cafe Au Lait is a fantastic place to eat! The service was excellent, making the entire dining experience pleasant and enjoyable. The location is lovely, providing a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. However, the highlight of our visit was undoubtedly the pancakes. The chef at Cafe Au Lait makes the best pancakes I have ever had! If you are a fan of pancakes, this is the place to go. They are absolutely worth every penny. Chef, take a bow! Your pancakes are simply divine!

This is the best Cafe in the city by a mile. The staff are fantastic and friendly, the food is great and the coffee is spot on. I recommend it to my friends and all of my clients! I always feel looked after and like nothing is too much bother.

Is this what you serve your customer? A burnt bun?! And the quality is not consistent, the first time I visited everything was good. Second and third time, food and services were awful. No more chance

Best cafe in Bath. Never disappoints! Come here quite regularly and more recently for bottomless brunch. Was so full afterwards but they were kind enough to box up the pancakes for me to take home. They were the perfect treat when I got home. See you guys soon!

Lovely little place with a great variety of options, also different dietary requirements are catered for. The beans are especially tasty. Coffee was a bit strong and fruity for my liking.

White hot chocolate is good but would stay away from the chai latte. I’m on the hunt for well-tasting chai lattes and I could taste the “fakeness” in this, a bit like the concentrate Starbucks uses. Not made well and would not recommend.

I planned my sisters hen do in Bath and booked Cafe Au Lait for bottomless brunch. Two people within the party have illnesses which lead to us arriving a little late, they were very accommodating with pushing our booking back by 30mins. The food was amazing and there is so much of it! Again they were accommodating to needing to change the pancakes due to illness. They were attentive with drinks and keeping an eye on our empty Prosecco bottles. Definitely recommend and would return. My only gripe is that our table was next to the door which doesn’t have a slow close which means it slams shut every time someone enters or leaves and it’s a very busy cafe.

I've been there a few times and the food and atmosphere are relatively pleasant. however, every time I have been I have felt very unwelcome. I understand the stress of working somewhere so small and busy, but to be stood waiting to be seated for 15 minutes without any member of staff addressing us, to the point where I didn't even think we were in the right place is quite unsettling. the staff were also quite unpleasant and seemed miserable. working in a small busy place I tough but its not difficult at all to at least try to be pleasant. it is a cute place don't get me wrong, but I don't think it is very fair to make the customer feel unwelcome and somehow make us feel we are doing something wrong.

The atmosphere seemed nice enough, but I was quite disappointed with the coffee. £3.20 for an Americano that was soapy and tasted of hard water.

Just what we were looking for. Great home made food. Husband had the full English and I had the veggie option. I love a chai latte, and this one was very good. Not a huge space if you’re inside, but on a nice day, tables and chairs outside on the pavement would be fine. A great find, but I guess it’s always very busy. We visited on the odd chance on a Monday late morning, but even then people were waiting for tables. Great if you’re lucky enough to get in. Perfect breakfast place, will definitely visit again when next in lovely Bath.

My fiancée booked bottomless brunch here. Surprised how lovely the food was, and the service was good. We weren't timed and they gave us another beer after our 90mins has elapsed. Great that we could have a break between our brunch dish and pancakes too.The breakfast bap was incredible 👌 lovely sausage and a bloody mary tomato sauce. The pancakes were INCREDIBLE 😍

So disappointed, I had eaten less than half of my food and the waitresses decided to take my food away when I was at the toilet. Complete waste of my money as i couldnt eat the food. She said she had asked my friend but my friend works in service industry and said they didn’t even wait for her answer and put the napkin on top of my food and took it away. Really disappointed

Coffee was ok, food arrived barely lukewarm - cold. Raised it with the staff who asked me to explain what I meant and offered to microwave it hot again. Did eventually remake but not a great experience.

Went for breakfast on a Sunday to prep ourselves for the journey home. Lovely food, generous portions, not too expensive, nice vibe inside and quick service. Would go again!

Visited cafe au lait with my 6 good friends for a farewell brunch after a delightful weekend in Bath. After a short wait we were shown to our table. Unfortunately, this is where it all went down hill. We ordered our drinks from a waitress who was rude, rolling her eyes when asked any questions and we felt very rushed to make our order. The food itself was fine. It looked better than it tasted. No one asked how our food was and plates taken from us the second we had put down our cutlery. When clearing the table another waiter gestured rudely to my friend for her to pass her plate which was embarassing. We then went up one by one to pay our bill. As the last person came to pay there was an extra veggie breakfast and a vanilla latte outstanding. We double checked that everyone in our party had paid. No one had even ordered a vanilla latte. The waitress became very snappy and argumentative with us saying we just had to pay it and there’s a vanilla latte on the bill therefore we must have ordered one. Her attitude was horrible and we explained that we had not ordered a latte and she had just taken 6 payments one by one and we would not be paying for an extra breakfast. She then rolled her eyes again, and said I’ll void it then and stormed off in anger. Overall, a sad end to our trip. Will not be back and will not be recommending this place. Clearly a victim of instagrammable inedible food. Staff could clearly do with some lessons on good manors and how to count.

A regular spot of mine throughout university and simply one of the best brunch spots in Bath (and probably the country!). The staff are friendly, the coffee is fantastic, food is always top notch (especially the pancakes) and I will continue to go there whenever I'm in Bath!

Wonderful cafe, with a warm welcoming atmosphere and attentive staff. We went to celebrate a 40th birthday with their bottomless brunch, the food and booze was extremely generous and made for an amazing celebration. Would recommend to anyone
