Always a calm oasis in what is becoming an increasingly busy Bath. Great atmosphere and great beer. It's very busy before Bath Rugby home games and it's also get very busy for meals. If you don't mind the wait, it's worth it. I haven't stayed in the rooms but always seem very popular.

An overpriced overcooked burger & chips. The bar smelt of old cooking oil and the food wasn't great. Everywhere seems to be the same of late ... charging extortionate prices for substandard food.

We were recommended this pub as a great place to eat and we were not disappointed. The team knew their menu extremely well and were able to cater for allergies. The food was delicious, cooked brilliantly despite being limited with no garlic allowed. There was a good range of wines and even a whiskey menu.

Staff were friendly and attentive, the food was nice overall but way too small portions though for the price, you don’t expect to spend £70 on food for two adults and a child including 2 pints each for adults and feel hungry an hour later. Wouldn’t return for this reason unfortunately.

Perfect little inn and pub. The rooms were really comfortable with nice mattresses and good shower pressure/temp. The staff was super friendly and helpful, they helped us carry our particularly heavy bags up to the second floor, which was much appreciated. The pub was very clean, and had a great vibe. The location is about as perfect as you can get. Just a 5 to 10 minute walk to everything you need to see and there are plenty of restaurants nearby. We would definitely stay again!

Agree with the other reviews saying we felt unwelcome. Walked in as a couple, browsing the menu at the bar (no acknowledgement / hello by the barman) - meanwhile another couple walked in about 5 minutes behind us, were greeted by the barman straightaway and offered a table for two in the dining area. When we then asked for a table for two, we were told there was now only space left for bigger parties in the dining area (?) and they only had space in the corner of the bar for us. Really disappointing and unwelcoming.

Great service and location in the heart of Bath. The rooms were small but clean. The beds are comfortable. Please be advised that the stairs heading to the rooms are narrow and uneven. Rooms 1 and 2 are also difficult to access when the pub is closed and the doors upfront are locked. No lift. This can be a challenge for older folks. Otherwise, it was a great stay and I would recommend this small inn. Parking is a couple of blocks away and a little pricey.

Great hidden gem and lovely to get away from the busy streets of bath, I'm so glad I found this beautiful pub. Very friendly and welcoming staff and a great variety of food and drink on offer. I found the pub by mistake while wandering unknowingly away from shops but so glad I did as it was much quieter than the city itself and was just the break I needed in my day. It's actually only a few minutes walk from the centre but so peaceful.

We love sampling new restaurants and booked The Griffin Inn as we saw they do a roast on a Sunday. However upon arrival, it became clear that the only roast available was Beef. The menu is pretty extensive however I've never been anywhere that only offers one type of roast on a Sunday. We spoke to the chap behind the bar who was very helpful and did us a vegan burger with one of the roasts we ordered. The food however took a long time to come and when it did appear, it was very average. I've had much nicer meals out in Bath. The ambience in there is calming and the decor is lovely but I don't think we'll be returning.

Lovely venue & staff however the food is rubbish! So overpriced! Lamb shank was overcooked & my cod paella didn’t appear they served me chicken pie & mash 🤦♀️ waited another 10 minutes to cook my cod and it came with prawns & chilies or hot peppers it was so spicy, I couldn’t eat most of it very disappointing… the menu should’ve been clearer to state it came with prawns which I’m not a fan of and it was spicy dish because I don’t like spice!

Stayed for 2 nights, hotel is a great location in the centre of the city. Rooms are above the pub. We stayed in room 1. Room was clean amd nicely decorated. There was complimentary toiletries in the ensuite. On the down side there was a coffee machine and coffee pods but no kettle or tea. We felt for £160 room this should be a basic requirement. Nor was anything replenished for the 2nd night. Staff in the bar didn't seem to know how to help when we asked for extra milk but they did find some sachets to give us. TV reception poor as well. Again should be a basic requirement for the price. TV didn't really bother us but may other guests. Overall nice rooms but some of basics need sorting

Stayed here for one night while travelling. Booked two rooms and they were both lovely. Very clean with nice little touches- cushions, throws, radio. The decor was well done and obviously well thought out. Although the pub was busy when we arrived, the staff member on duty gave us a very warm greeting and showed us to our rooms. We had a drink in the bar later in the evening and the service from another staff member was also exemplary. We learned a bit of history about Bath which was a nice extra. They were happy to store our luggage for us after check out to allow us to do some sightseeing. My only regret is that we didn’t stay here for the entirety of our Bath trip but our booking for another place was already made. We would definitely return here.

In a town with plenty of pricey pubs, The Griffin hold the crown for THE most expensive. Drinks are farcically expensive (£6 for Thatchers Dry), but I thought I'd try their food. £9 for mushroom soup is absolutely as much as they could charge, but it was obviously homemade and very nice. £16 for chicken pie (with "Korev" - never thought lager was really a cooking ingredient) also pricey, though the pie was homemade and decent. Chips were not homemade, though a lot of them. Would be better with mash. Overall, a tasty dinner but the cost left a nasty aftertaste. There were other diners complaining.

I have been twice since the pub reopened. On both occasions, at a peak time, the one flustered person behind the bar was not coping , trying to mix cocktails while pouring pints I waited 20 minutes to get served.. Thee manager was said to be out ne switched off. When he finally aeare appeared he said,on both occasions, he had been in the cellar. I am encouraged by friends to give this pub up. But it used to be good and I am reluctant. It needs a manager who knows when to make sure the bar service is adequate and when it is the right time to be "in the cellar".

Stopped off in Bath en route home from Cornwall and wanted somewhere to eat on a Saturday evening. Strolling around in the late afternoon we stumbled on The Griffin and the menu looked good. We managed to book a table for later that night and arrived as scheduled. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly, with a particular shout out to Kate, who chattily served us with a smile. The place has good background music and a great atmosphere. My original choice of starter (devilled kidneys) had proved so popular it had run out, so I had to pick an alternative - I opted for one of their snack plates - a trio of mini scotch eggs. OMG they were delicious - especially the beetroot one (yes, really!). My wife had a goat's cheese salad and was very impressed. We both had the Steak and Ale 'Pie of the Day' which was just as you would hope it to be. A couple of pints of Doom Bar and I left a happy and full boy. Definitely a place worth seeking out.

We all chose different dishes and all thoroughly enjoyed them. The ‘Cape Malay’ starter was a highlight and the lady who served us was very knowledgable about all of the dishes as some are lesser known but her enthusiasm for them convinced us to try a variety. It’s freshly cooked and a cut above your standard pub food. Great cocktails and a good selection of beers on tap. If you like gin or tequila, then the shelves are full of different ones to try. Came across this as a place to stay, whilst searching for a suitable and good value for money room for a friend and I to base ourselves for a night's stay in Bath. Apart from the nightmare parking in the recommended hotel car park, Manvers Street, which requires the downloading of an app, if you want an overnight stay and being awake at 8am the next morning to pay for more parking, I could not fault the pub hotel. The decor of the pub and of the bedroom we stayed in is fresh and modern and the twin bedroom we stayed in was comfortable and cosy. Very clean and modern. I would like to share my one night experience with you. I will first start with te people at the reception and all I have to say is that they showed so much respect and they were very polite. After getting the key to our room we also have been guided to the room by one of the staff. Very nice. 5 out of 5 stars 🌟 for the room ✨️ It was spotless clean it was warm and very cosy as well. We had a bathroom in our room. With shower and bath tub. After so many hours driving to get here, all I needed was a warm bath and a good sleep. I do recommend this place 100% 👌 PS!!! they give you an option of a breakfast if needed, that they will leave it for you in the fridge outside on the corridor. We didn't need it so I won't k ow what exactly they offer. Probably the usual. Anyways ..... YES for this place 🙌
