A pre theatre meal at The Griffin, first time visit .The pub gas been made really attractive and the booking system is efficient,Service is prompt and a small but well chosen wine list plus decent range of beers at the bar. The fish soup is excellent and a first class chicken salad with free range chicken .Efficient service from friendly staff. Roger Payne, the owner has recently opened a third restaurant in Bath so off to try that next time

Lovely inn. I came here for two nights to attend a conference and had planned to experience some of the restaurants in Bath but ended up eating here both nights as the food and atmosphere was lovely. Great hidden gem and lovely to get away from the busy streets of bath, I'm so glad I found this beautiful pub. Very friendly and welcoming staff and a great variety of food and drink on offer. I found the pub by mistake while wandering unknowingly away from shops but so glad I did as it was much quieter than the city itself and was just the break I needed in my day. It's actually only a few minutes walk from the centre but so peaceful.

We love sampling new restaurants and booked The Griffin Inn as we saw they do a roast on a Sunday. However upon arrival, it became clear that the only roast available was Beef. The menu is pretty extensive however I've never been anywhere that only offers one type of roast on a Sunday. We spoke to the chap behind the bar who was very helpful and did us a vegan burger with one of the roasts we ordered. The food however took a long time to come and when it did appear, it was very average. I've had much nicer meals out in Bath. The ambience in there is calming and the decor is lovely but I don't think we'll be returning.

Lovely venue & staff however the food is rubbish! So overpriced! Lamb shank was overcooked & my cod paella didn’t appear they served me chicken pie & mash 🤦♀️ waited another 10 minutes to cook my cod and it came with prawns & chilies or hot peppers it was so spicy, I couldn’t eat most of it very disappointing… the menu should’ve been clearer to state it came with prawns which I’m not a fan of and it was spicy dish because I don’t like spice!

Stayed for 2 nights, hotel is a great location in the centre of the city. Rooms are above the pub. We stayed in room 1. Room was clean amd nicely decorated. There was complimentary toiletries in the ensuite. On the down side there was a coffee machine and coffee pods but no kettle or tea. We felt for £160 room this should be a basic requirement. Nor was anything replenished for the 2nd night. Staff in the bar didn't seem to know how to help when we asked for extra milk but they did find some sachets to give us. TV reception poor as well. Again should be a basic requirement for the price. TV didn't really bother us but may other guests. Overall nice rooms but some of basics need sorting

Stayed here for one night while travelling. Booked two rooms and they were both lovely. Very clean with nice little touches- cushions, throws, radio. The decor was well done and obviously well thought out. Although the pub was busy when we arrived, the staff member on duty gave us a very warm greeting and showed us to our rooms. We had a drink in the bar later in the evening and the service from another staff member was also exemplary. We learned a bit of history about Bath which was a nice extra. They were happy to store our luggage for us after check out to allow us to do some sightseeing. My only regret is that we didn’t stay here for the entirety of our Bath trip but our booking for another place was already made. We would definitely return here.

In a town with plenty of pricey pubs, The Griffin hold the crown for THE most expensive. Drinks are farcically expensive (£6 for Thatchers Dry), but I thought I'd try their food. £9 for mushroom soup is absolutely as much as they could charge, but it was obviously homemade and very nice. £16 for chicken pie (with "Korev" - never thought lager was really a cooking ingredient) also pricey, though the pie was homemade and decent. Chips were not homemade, though a lot of them. Would be better with mash. Overall, a tasty dinner but the cost left a nasty aftertaste. There were other diners complaining.

I have been twice since the pub reopened. On both occasions, at a peak time, the one flustered person behind the bar was not coping , trying to mix cocktails while pouring pints I waited 20 minutes to get served.. Thee manager was said to be out ne switched off. When he finally aeare appeared he said,on both occasions, he had been in the cellar. I am encouraged by friends to give this pub up. But it used to be good and I am reluctant. It needs a manager who knows when to make sure the bar service is adequate and when it is the right time to be "in the cellar".

Stopped off in Bath en route home from Cornwall and wanted somewhere to eat on a Saturday evening. Strolling around in the late afternoon we stumbled on The Griffin and the menu looked good. We managed to book a table for later that night and arrived as scheduled. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly, with a particular shout out to Kate, who chattily served us with a smile. The place has good background music and a great atmosphere. My original choice of starter (devilled kidneys) had proved so popular it had run out, so I had to pick an alternative - I opted for one of their snack plates - a trio of mini scotch eggs. OMG they were delicious - especially the beetroot one (yes, really!). My wife had a goat's cheese salad and was very impressed. We both had the Steak and Ale 'Pie of the Day' which was just as you would hope it to be. A couple of pints of Doom Bar and I left a happy and full boy. Definitely a place worth seeking out.

My husband and I visited here on Saturday for lunch pre-rugby with friends. We got a very friendly welcome and a lovely table in the cosy upstairs part of the restaurant/bar. We all chose different dishes and all thoroughly enjoyed them. The ‘Cape Malay’ starter was a highlight and the lady who served us was very knowledgable about all of the dishes as some are lesser known but her enthusiasm for them convinced us to try a variety. It’s freshly cooked and a cut above your standard pub food. Great cocktails and a good selection of beers on tap. If you like gin or tequila, then the shelves are full of different ones to try. Reasonably priced house wines too. Would highly recommend it for both the food and the atmosphere - nice to try somewhere that serves restaurant-quality food in a comfortable pub setting.

Apart from the nightmare parking in the recommended hotel car park, Manvers Street, which requires the downloading of an app, if you want an overnight stay and being awake at 8am the next morning to pay for more parking, I could not fault the pub hotel. Our original booking was for 2 nights at the Griffin Inn. My husband was unwell and unable to travel on the day as planned. I called the Inn explained the situation to them and said that we would be there for the 2nd night as booked. The lady handling the bookings was very nice about it all. When we did arrive we were shown to our room which was lovely and offered a free drink at the bar which we had. The bar staff were very friendly and chatty, gave us information on the area and advised us the best place to park. Breakfast the next morning was very nice, checking in and out was simple. Getting up the narrow stairs with suitcases was difficult so my advise would be to take an overnight bag with you. We had planned to leave our big cases in the car but as the Inn does not have a car park and the nearest long stay car park was a good 10 minutes walk away we decided not to leave our luggage in the car. I would stay here again.

Service was friendly, and food excellent - servings generous and quality good. I had the vegetarian tagliatelle and my friend chose the ham egg and chips. The wine was good too, and our bill very reasonable. I'd go there again - it's well worth a short detour from the main shopping street.

We stayed in Bath from the 5 to the 9 October, we found the Griffin pub on our first day and it became our local. The minute you enter the pub/inn you will find the décor and the atmosphere welcoming. This is reinforced by the friendly and welcoming staff including Kate the manager and Nick the chef. We didn't eat any of the pub snacks but witnessed them being served, they looked fresh and delicious. We did book for Sunday lunch and what a treat that was, the food was again fresh, well presented and tasted as good as it looks. The short rib of beef for the Sunday roast was absolutely amazing, after a short wait (our choice) we were ready to eat a pudding so we shared a treacle tart OMG I can still taste it yet.If you are in Bath this place is a must visit but remember book for Sunday lunch.

We were recommended this pub by our son. We whiled away an hour or so drinking and very nice it was too!

Stayed here a couple of nights about a year ago. Very clean and comfortable rooms. The place is very very old, so it comes with the expected caveats. Nice breakfast and the bar is nice too. Very friendly to tourists.

The Griffin Inn’s restaurant and pub are quintessentially English, and we enjoyed our first real meal in England here. The food was excellent, if a little slow coming out, and the service was great. It is on a quiet street a ways from the touristy area of Bath, so we mostly saw what looked like locals having a pint here. And the craft beer is excellent, so I can understand why. My family highly recommends it to anyone.
