Berties Restaurant & Carvery in Forest Heath

We booked for an evening meal to celebrate a family wedding anniversary. We were greeted politely and shown to our table. Our orders for drinks and food were taken and both arrived really quickly. Food was excellent and our servers were polite and friendly. Such a shame there was only one other table of diners in. We had a lovely chilled evening

I took a party of 14 people there after a tour of Newmarket. The staff were charming and well-organised. They welcomed us in, had set a long table for use, and were very good at managing the bill items for couples and singles in the group. The food was excellent and good value and there was a nice, up-market atmosphere. We all relaxed and enjoyed a tasty lunch and good company. We pre-ordered from the main menu but there was a carvery operating on the day of our visit too. The decor is above average for this type of venue; well-furnished and with a race horse theme as you would expect. The toilets were quite luxurious - people commented on that!

THANKYOU! We had the most wonderful evening celebrating. The food was absolutely delicious, the service was outstanding - we were looked after 100% throughout the whole evening. Amazing disco and great atmosphere created! Would thoroughly recommend any type of celebration to be hosted here!

The carvery was absolutely the best, and very good value too. On the menu every day of the week. Served hot from the kitchen due to Covid restrictions on self service. There was a choice of pork or beef, or both. Served with apple sauce and horseradish sauce. We were made to feel so welcome by the attentive staff and we would like to thank them all, and our compliments to the chef. Like another reviewer, I really can't understand why this lovely restaurant is so far down the list on trip advisor. Most definitely will be back soon

We were a family of five visiting for a carvery lunch. Everyone was pleased with the friendly service and the meal which was good value. Hope to visit again soon!

We came here for Sunday lunch. Starters were very average. The carvery was plentiful. I opted for Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roasties and vegetables. Everything was hot but vegetables were over cooked.

Have no idea why this restaurant is so far down the list on trip advisor. When we visited every table was taken. In fact people who had not booked were eating in the bar, which is not a bad alternative. We opted for the lunchtime carvery and so glad we did. The beef was done to perfection and melted in our mouths. The roast potatoes excellent, everything on offer was great. The gravy was also piping hot which is a bonus . Not much of a view from the dining room , just the car park. The dining room itself laid out nicely. Service was great. Will certainly be returning. Word of warning, booking is essential. Under £9 for the carvery , this really is value for money.

Had dinner here recently; we weren’t expecting great things and that is what we got. Was quite a quiet evening so not much atmosphere. Staff were polite but not very happy. Food was just ok verging on disappointing. And we were really not impressed when the staff started setting up for the breakfast service all around us while we were still eating our meal - I realise they weren’t busy but they should have waited until all of us diners had left the restaurant (it wasn’t late). I doubt we will be visiting again.

Sunday Carvery. Another lovely meal. Great footfall. Tables laid in the Bar as well as the restaurant. Food cooked to perfection as expected. My friends 1st visit and was impressed. A great place to eat whether you are a native or just passing through. I have never been disappointed yet.

Good food, good service and very reasonable price, always a pleasure to dine somewhere when the experience is good.

Visited here quite a few times and most times have had to complain about the A/C blowing directly at you and making the food cold.always an apology from the waiter but never get the manager to apologise which you would expect from any decent eatery.this time we went with 6others and sat near the servers.Great,no air con blowing and I actually praised the chef for the choice of food,nice piece of haddock and turkey.this was on a Friday .went again on the Sunday and was seated right under a/c.this was ok because when we first sat down it was off.as soon as we got food it came on.within 2minutes the food was stone cold. Complained to waiter who said he would pass the message on.no one came to apologise from management.this coupled with the only fish dish being Thai fish cakes meant our birthday celebration was scuppered.I can understand if it was 30 degrees outside but it was only 12.It did not help when I had a stiff neck the following day from the icy breeze of the a/c. We normally would book our Xmas party for 12 people here but obviously they don't need our custom or give a damn about what you say while they manage to keep filling tables.never mind their loss is someone else's gain.

Visited for a Sunday Carvery and wasn't disappointed. Home cooked, plentiful, fresh food even though we visited later in the day. Good desserts. Nice, relaxed atmosphere. It's handy to find somewhere local that serves a good carvery into the evening on a Sunday. The only negative comment would be that we looked beforehand for the menu online but there doesn't appear to be one, only for breakfast & afternoon tea.

Went for a carvery on Sunday the food was great and so was the service. It is well worth a visit here if you like a good carvery. I have added this review as a update from the review I placed a few years ago as it has much improved and I can't recommend enough.

He estado aquí muchas veces en el pasado y la comida siempre es buena. Antes de la renovación era un gran lugar para comer, pero no más.Aparte de Rachel (? Es genial,) que el resto del personal es grosero y bastante miserable. Ni siquiera reciben un saludo en nuestra última visita, aunque había tres miembros del personal de 'hasta', nos ignoraron totalmente. Servicio es caótica y preguntamos varias veces por las cosas que nunca se materializó. Cuando está lleno, el restaurante es ahora tan ruidoso, que no puedo esperar para salir.

By the time I got into the restaurant I was very tired, having left home at 6.30a.m. I was served promptly, and had an excellent meal.

Enjoyed the carvery in this restaurant, very good service. Meat and veg. delicious, but yorkies not very crisp. Willing to celebrate Birthdays for customers with balloons etc.

Estábamos conocer gente para una bebida aparty entre semana que fuimos en un rato para que nosotros decidimos quedarnos a comer en el restaurante. Yo tenía la lubina, que era excelente y mi pareja tuvo el pollo y chorizo y dijo que era muy agradable.

We'd left it a bit late for Sunday lunch until we saw this on the Internet ,bad mistake,worst carvery ever,beef had layers of thick fat and the veg,although looking good was bland and tasteless

Me fui a Bertie's sin más expectativa de que esta almuerzo entre semana no estaría mal, de hecho, resultó ser una excelente relación calidad-precio y más a la calidad de punto. Es un asador que fui, así que no esperes comida de haut. PERO ... deliciosa carne asada y cerdo en el día que estuve allí, y podría tener uno o ambos, y además fue el hígado y tocino, carne de cerdo en salsa y una cazuela de carne. Muy bien preparado verduras que eran un buen color y todavía tenía algunos bocado, asado con patatas y pudines Yorkshire no no engrasa, (soy exigente en sabor, la textura y calidad y gritaban a si que no me gustó, ONU-British no sé, pero tiene que ser hecho) que se reponía en servir las bandejas en todo el tiempo que Pasé allí. Los alrededores son muy agradables, como el personal atento y amable. Antigua quizás, pero una jarra de agua fría de bienvenida en la mesa como pedimos. En general, una excelente comida, dos platos principales, uno pudd y dos bebidas por menos de £25. Sin duda volveré.

We have been going to this restaurant for a number of months on a Sunday and haven't had a problem due to the great restaurant manager clearly pulling the lazy staff into place. However, today we attended the restaurant and the usual manager was not present and we were quite rudely asked if we had a booking, which we did, upon being pointed to our table, no staff came to ask if we wanted a drink so we had to go to the bar and serve ourselves. we then sat for a further 20 mins and no menu was brought to us or starters offered so we went to the carvery and served ourselves as we were very hungry by now, at no point during the meal were we asked for further drinks or asked if meal was ok. Upon finishing our meal we waited for someone to collect our plates and offer us desert, they did not do this so we then wondered about the bill and again noone came so we got up and paid the bill ourselves at reception. In fact during the whole meal no one came to serve us at all and upon complaining at the end of the meal no staff seemed to care, so we will not be returning for a while until these problems have been resolved and this restaurant has just lost some loyal customers.

Hadn't been to Berties since the refurbishment. So was in for a most pleasant surprise! The quality of the meal was excellent! The Chef was really very generous when carving slices of the roast! The vegetables were just perfection - one of the best roast potatoes we have had. As for my dessert - Profiteroles - pure heaven on the plate! The staff are professional when it comes to service but ever so friendly when it comes to making the diners feel at home! I have eaten elsewhere in Newmarket but value and quality wise, I think this was one of the best meals we have ever eaten and it was just perfect for my Birthday! My compliments to the Chef and the Staff!

Whilst carvery meals are not a particular favourite of mine, the carvery I ate here was particularly good. The meats were succulent and the vegetables, freshly cooked and very tasty.The service was very good, and the restaurant has a very inviting and comfortable atmosphere.I didn't pay for the food, and don't know the cost, but I suspect that it is very good value.

Came here as like Newmarket and could use tastecard for a 50% discount. On arrival didn't know where to go and was two private parties going on and no one seemed to want to help and felt a bit awkward but once seated all ok. Nice separate modern seating areas. All food was really really nice, asked if ok and needed drinks but not too much, took a while to order dessert but was already advised would be busy that nite n not a problem for me as prefer a wait to fit dessert in. Will definitely return and highly recommend :)

Prompt service with a smile from the dining room team, no great delay between courses. The dining room has recently been refurbished and has a pleasant ambiance.

I've been going here for sometime now but what a marvellous surprise - the hotel has undergone an amazing makeover and my god is it worth a visit. The new restaurant and menu can be put into the class of fine dining in London the food was exceptional and served with excellent timing .The staff have not changed thank goodness as they compliment the new surroundings. I would recommend a visit.

Absolutely fantastic. Can not find fault. Fabulous food, chef made us the most delicious fresh cream and strawberries sponge as a birthday cake. . Staff decorated the table for us. Great service, friendly staff and clean comfortable large airy bedrooms. Even though they are going through large refurbishment we would throughly recommend and will return.

Lovely food, our kids love the Carvery and always a great family atmosphere... its one of those rare places where the staff are consistent and make you feel really welcome.

A company Christmas meal was the reason for our visit and apart from very average food the experience was pretty good. The service was excellent and the room used for our meal was ideal. The food however was very average, cheap and bland starters, soggy sprouts and what tasted like microwaved Christmas pudding was not value for money for our £24 per head package.The quality of the food let down what was excellent service and a comfortable venue

Very sloppy service. Waiter spilled drinks on table and made no attempt to clean up. Ordered Pate starter for myself which came served with cold stale toast. When I complained toast was rock hard told "well it is toast!". My spouse's mushroom starter comprised 4 button mushrooms which for the price was ridiculous. As for the carvery the meat was OK although I found it somewhat overcooked. The vegetables were certainly overcooked and poorly presented. It was relatively cheap but I would have expected much better (and have previously experience much better) at this hotel.There are certainly better places to grab a Sunday lunch in Newmarket!

You can pay more for a meal out and Carverys are usually a reasonable price. It is not just this one but I find with most of them in general the self serve veg and potatoes are usually limp not crispy and a dry or stewed. Having said that the desserts were lovely.

Newmarket is my home town and my wife & I often visit to see my relatives. When there we try to fit in a meal at Berties Restaurant, which is part of the Heath Court Best Western Hotel. We prefer this to several other eateries that we've tried in town and we reckon it's the best carvery we have found anywhere. After many visits, we're still wondering if we'll be disappointed one day, but it hasn't happened yet!We ate there again last Saturday with my sister, brother-in-law and my nephew. As usual, the carvery meat was tender and tasty, but what we like is that you can supplement this at no extra cost with various casseroles. My wife had a chicken chasseur with her beef and I had beef & wine casserole with mine. We topped this with a well-cooked and varied range of vegetables. What a plateful- and all for £6.95!There are a range of starters (not that we had one as we knew what the main course would be like) but we did each have a dessert. With drinks, we paid about £15 per head in total.Service is very courteous and they seem to want to make your visit enjoyable. Last Saturday was exceptionally warm, so we asked if we could eat outside, so they cleared tables and set them up for us. Other diners then did the same! It must have added to their workloads, but they seemed happy to oblige. All told- excellent and we'll eat there again soon!
