So pleased that this unique bar is open and apparently flourishing, even if it is limited to Thursdays - Sundays, I believe. This superb little bar is just lovely, and although I am not totally convinced with the new current colour scheme, the overall effect is excellent, and the lighting and fittings make this wonderful 'antique' area magical. Top marks must be given to the staff, all of whom were in immaculate uniform, and could not have been more helpful. The cocktails they were producing were first class, and the whole atmosphere was really special. If you want to be assured of a table, then it is necessary to book for a two hour slot, primarily of course as space is so limited. Congratulations to the current owner, the Angel & Royal appears to be flourishing.

What an enjoyable catch up with my friend from offer of water when arriving to making sure we had the code for the free carpark when leaving We decoded to have the fish finger sandwich, best I've ever tasted. Only complaint we were too full to try a sweet. Very generous pot of tea for two, finishing with coffee and hot milk. We will definitely be visiting here again for lunch and on our list for a Xmas get together with friends

We had an excellent Sunday Roast at The Angel and Royal today. The staff were so professional, helpful and courteous. The meal was excellent. The roast dinners were delicious, the beef was cooked how you requested it and the lamb and chicken roasts were equally as good, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Thankyou to your wonderful staff

Wow, absolutely amazing meal last night with a girlfriend. From the moment we were first greeted the service was really first class! You could tell one or two of the girls were young and new, but very obviously being trained to a hight standard! Nothing was too much trouble for them! The food, well, outstanding! For a small town like Grantham this really was top nosh! The atmosphere was also very nice, sat in the corner, everything was perfect! I often call in for a drink, but will definitely be returning in the New Year to dine with you again!

Our 1st trip, excellent menu and the food was very good indeed. Will visit again The Scallop starter was very generous followed by filet steak, did not have enough room for a pudding but it was a lovely dessert menu. Will visit again.

Adult family dinner. Staff exemplary. We all had lamb. The lamb didn't taste like lamb although I understand it was cooked untraditionally. Roast potatoes were overcooked and hard. Yorkshire pudding had got to be ready made supermarket at best, hard. Parsnips overcooked and quite awful. Other vegetables were fine. My daughter decided she couldn't eat her dinner after a few bites and left it. I'm the type that will eat anything but I couldn't finish. My son in law complained, Expecting to at least not pay for my daughter's we were made to pay in full. We traveled 50 miles having been before... Won't be back!

My friend and I had tickets to see the theatre production of Joseph and his multicoloured dream coat at St Wulfram’s Church. We decided on the off chance that we would try lunch here. The staff were friendly and attentive. I had a peppermint tea, my friend had an earl grey tea….then I had a BLT on a seeded toasted bloomer, which came with side of rocket leaves and crisps. My friend had a tuna and cheese melt, which also came with a side of rocket and crisps……we enjoyed our lunch. We were totally fascinated with the old building, absolutely stunning architecture! Must look at the history behind it! We enjoyed our first visit.

Both meals my husband & I had tonight were absolutely delicious. Every quality ingredient on the plate had been cooked to perfection. An added bonus for me was the choice of gluten free options I could have. I would not hesitate to try anything on this menu as the new head chef Darren obviously knows what he is doing. Only the second night of his new menu & the Bistro was full. Great to hear that he sources local produce whenever possible. So impressed we have booked in for lunch time next Wednesday to try the Fish & chips.

5* food and service. Couldn't fault the service...staff marvelously professional and smart. Young staff but consistently excellent...far above normal standards experienced in the town. Food was excellent and being with friends who are used to visiting the best restaurants this is praise indeed. The jokey message I wrote on the reservation screen was picked up and my favourite food supplied as a surprise....best halloumi fries I've ever tasted...it's these little touches that makes this restaurant stand out. Whatever the (fairly) new owner has done to revitalise this hotel .... please spread it to other businesses! Well done to all the staff.

This was our second visit to The Bistro having enjoyed the food and service at the newly refurbished Bistro the first time. We arrived at 13.45 on an impulse and asked if we could have something from the snack menu and we were shown to a table in the Bistro. After 10 minutes my wife had to find a member of staff to ask for the snack menus. After a further 10 minutes no-one had come to take our order or even ask us what we would like to drink. There were a couple of other parties in there but they had finished their meals. and there was no shortage of staff (there was a large party on our previous visit and service was not an issue then). At his point it was past 2 o'clock and we were extremely hungry so decided to go. As we left there were 3 members of staff behind the bar, one of whom was standing there doing nothing. We told her we were leaving because nobody had come to take our order and she just looked at us and said nothing. Embarrassingly, we have recommended this place to our family and friends, something we are now regretting.

We visited Grantham passing by. Most lunchrooms did not appeal to us, so we ended in this place, that from the outside looked more like a hotel. Inside we were welcomed in the lounge of the house, where more people had gathered already. By the impoverished impression ‘historic market town Grantham’ made on us, this must have been the local elite. The ambiance and service here were impeccable and very pleasant. The simple lunch menu offered exactly what we were looking for and the food provide was all right. So, we highly recommend this restaurant (which did not call itself bistro, when we visited). Purely English style, we would say.

Took my dad here as a treat for his birthday for lunch. Nearly 20 quid for lamb steak and it was truly terrible. Burnt veg, tough fatty lamb and plain, dry mash. I honestly couldn't believe it, the quality of the meat was shocking. I'm no snob but for 20 quid I was expecting something really, really nice. Dad had fish and chips which he said was OK, that was over 15 quid I think. Overall we could have spent 25 quid less between us and had a much nicer meal at the local wetherspoons. The chef there should be seriously thinking about whether they've chosen the right career. The only reason I didn't complain was to not spoil the day for my dad. Don't go here.

No comer aquí.

We chose a table near the fireplace one lunchtime, I ran my hand across the top, came away black, covered in coal dust, clearly hadn't been cleaned for some time.We moved tables. My chicken dish was bland, tough, was supposed to be served with fresh vegetables plural - a couple of bits of reheated broccoli. The potatoes were fried in cubes, swimming in grease. I mentioned it to the waitress when she asked if all was ok. Her response. That's just how the potatoes come am afraid. Not if you drain them it isn't!No offer of a free drink even, never mind a replacement meal. Really disappointing, place was empty, no wonder.Won't be returning.

We were exhibiting at the 2013 Grantham Railshow and our host organiser arranged for us to stay in a nearby guest house, which was very good, but we needed feeding in the evenings!Neither of us know Grantham that well so we tried the bistro here on the Friday night and with the price bands of £11.60 for one course, £16.50 for two courses, and £22.30 for three courses, there was no argument! For the first night we were a bit late after setting up for the show and the one course meal of a Cod Loin was very impressive and enjoyed to the degree that we returned for a two course meal on the following night and had a Rib-eye steak that melted in your mouth and a Mediterranean Vegetable Tart followed by white chocolate with blueberry cheesecake and Strawberry Shortbread Stack, followed by coffees. All of which we thoroughly enjoyed and we didn't want to leave the place! The Bistro rooms changed on both nights, firstly being in a small, well-presented intimate dining room, and the second night being in a 16thC style Banqueting Hall, This so impressed us, and along with the very friendly and courteous staff, we would love to stay there in the future.
