Excellent fish and chips shop

Excellent Lamb Doner in a naan. Lovely and fresh food can recommend.

Lovely food. Just disappointed that when we called to say we had a missing item we were told it would be sent out straight away but wasn’t and not received. One of us was left without our main. Item now received thank you. A shame it was 2 hours after receiving our order.

One of the better fish and chip restaurants around we think. Good that they do different things as we are a large family with different tastes and requirements. Pizzas are really good, chips are very nice and very reasonable in price. Delivery takes a while but normally nice and fresh and hot.

Order 2 pieces of chicken and I asked not to have chicken thighs, I have said it a few times, and when I got home there was a chicken thigh on the box, make sure the customer is getting and they have ordered as its very disappointing.

By far Best Fish & Chip around West Berks.... Always fresh and the menu has everything for everyone. Including the fussy eater in the family. Staff are always friendly and welcoming. Service is quick and worth the extra wait for that fresh batch of chips and fish.

Ordered fish and chips for home delivery ,arrived 20 minutes after the estimated time which was 40 minutes after ordering .so delivery arrived 1 hrs after ordering .and then only when we rang them to find out where our order was. The food was hot and the chips were good ,but oh! Dear! the fish batter was full of oil and soggy and to top it all the oil had soaked into the fish .totally inedible ,it went into the bin ...First time we have used them and definitely the last. I hate leaving bad reviews but on this occasion I feel totally justified ..

I've given 4 stars for my food as the saveloy I'm sorry to say had no taste to it, i.e., very bland but the chips were very nice cooked to perfection. I will definitely go back and the chip portion was very good and value for money. Sorry guys I had to drop a star for the saveloy 😞

The best by far, lovely staff very welcoming and a huge menu and large portions for the price which really helps.

In addition to the excellent fish and chips, The Berkshire Fry now offer a small selection of Indian Food. I tried the food for the first time on Friday and I can honestly say it was tasty and full of flavours. I had the Karahi Gosht this is a Lamb curry cooked with ginger, garlic, green chilli, coriander and garam masala. The meal was well cooked and offered a good amount of Lamb meat chunks. The flavours were well balanced and one of the bets I have had. I also tried the Bombay Aloo (Bombay potato) again great flavours. These were topped up with a plain rice and garlic naan. I found the best way to order was on the Berkshire Fry web site, quick and simple to use and you can select your collect slot times. Whilst my favour food from this take away is the fish and chips, I will certainly be buying my curry's from here again. Well done . Excellent Quality Fish and Chips. I have used The Berkshire Fry a number of times and I can honestly say, that these are the best fish & chips I have ever had in Thatcham. The portions are a good size, and both the fish and chips are cooked to a high standard and of good quality. The owner and staff are welcoming, and friendly and always offer an excellent service, with a big smile. Well done all, keep up the excellent work.

good burgers just took a while to make it

The 3rd chippie we've tried since moving to Thatcham and the best by a very long way. Generous portions very nicely cooked and cheaper than their competitors. Please don't change!

My fish was sooo oily, America wanted to invade it. Chips was alright, service wasn't great. Felt sick after from the amount of oil

First time we have ordered from Berkshire Fry this evening on Deliveroo and we really enjoyed the food. Our little boy struggles to accept new places and he’s finally found a place he really likes. The delivery driver was friendly and on time. Will definitely order again.

Best fish and chips in the area, and you can also order a damn good curry and a kebab alongside. Thoroughly recommended.

I highly recommend this shop. I have an unusual allergy which they catered for very well. It was all cooked to order and wrapped up separately. It was still hot when we got home. Thank you guys will be back soon 10.10.22

Mouth watering hot food on time... appreciate the Great service. There new curries menu is wonderful. The delivery service is amazing...can't fault. Definetly Recommend.

So I ordered a large doner with everything, certainly not. When I arrived the meat wasn't even cooking,the gas wasn't on , I was told 7 minutes more like 27 and that was because the owner came back.

Disgusting service, was told many times the food was on way, it took two hours before it arrived! The manager would not take any accountability for his lies about the food being out for delivery,

If I could put 0 stars I would!! Absolutely disgraceful service! After ordering and not hearing anything for 2 hours to which they claimed we only ordered 30 minutes ago which resulted the guy on the phone to shout at us telling us lies after lies about the food being minutes away! Never using this again! BOYCOTT THIS CHIPPY

I have tried their fish and chips ,its alway excellent but now tried recently introduced Indian curries, fresh Naan, seekh kebab and pizza it was amazing and it is worth trying the new menu.

I got the chicken burger and chips with a can of coke for £4.75. Had to catch the train in to Newbury so I couldn't eat it straight away. Anyway once I got in to Newbury and managed to sit down the food was still hot and lovely enough to enjoy. Definitely Recommend this Chip shop to anyone In Thatcham or Newbury who wants a decent meal

Best fish and chips I have ever had!!

Visited recently while visiting Thatcham for some work. Person at counter well advised and prepared the food for take away, good portion size and price was less. It was well packed for Take away and taste was good as well, may be liked it more as weather was cold, windy outside and all Take away were closed. Definitely will return again for take away on my next visit to Thatcham.

1 star lost for greasy cod batter, other than that the chips and curry sauce were nice.

I have a chip shop on my doorstep but travel 3 miles to get a takeaway from here. Food always hot and big portions, no complaints from me.

Eh... It was warm, and a meal I didn't have to cook. It's a much longer wait here then it used to be (waited half an hour with only one other person in front of me in the queue, previously would have been in and out in 10 minutes). Food isn't as flavorful as it used to be too unfortunately.

Amazing food the driver was so lovely after am 8 hour drive he was so friendly and fast. Highly recommended

Great chippy! They have now re-opened since the lockdown which is great. The chips taste as good as before with the fish excellent. Customer service is good as ever👍

Give you to big a portions but quick and friendly

The cod is batterd and cooked fresh so it is always hot, the chips are typical from 'chippies' a bit geassy and soggy. Good fish poor chips.

Last time I went here was when I moved away when I was 10. 17 years ago. Remembered the lovely fish and chips from here. Went back when I visited thatcham for the first time since, and they fish and chips are fantastic, well priced and good size portions, and service with a smile. Highly recommend

Great fish & chips, and not greasy at all.

Its order your food pay then sit and wait and wait and wait it wasnt very busy but it took nearly 20 minutes before i got my fish and chips. They didnt need to cook it was already done just needed to wrap . Very slow service

Bought chips for the family dinner and they are the worst chips we have ever had, I would be embarrassed to seek this poor quality food to a customer 😡

Very good fish and chips. Friendly staff freshly cooked more cod for me when I arrived at about 10pm, rather than give me the piece that had been sitting in the hot cupboard. Very impressed. Good chips too. 😊

Really enjoyed my fish and chips. Freshly cooked, with crispy batter and soft fish inside so not the quickest but worth the wait. Thoroughly enjoyed my dinner.

Loverly Fish and Chips at a reasonable price and portions are Large so order Smaller Chip size than you normally get! 😉

Burnt scampi, cold sausages, went back to exchange and I wish we hadn't bothered. The food was poor, cold and thoroughly disappointing! Won't be going back and will be telling others not to go there either!

Had to wait for chips but can't complain

The lunch deal is good (£3.50 for small fish and chips) but the quality is poor, the chips and fish are soaked in grease, I wasn't lucky today.

Awesome new owners and a great taste

We've had 3 or 4 visits there in recent weeks/months. Very friendly service, it's not the fastest but that's because the food is cooked fresh. Especially like the value of the lunchtime specials!
