Bengal Lancer in Stockton-on-Tees

Ordered online like we have done on many occasions, making it very clear that there is a tomato intollerance and tomato’s should not be used. This has never been an issue before (that we’re aware of). When curry came it had lumps of tomato in it. Upon calling to complain and ask for a refund, we were basically accused of lying and told that there was no tomatoes in the curry. The man on the end of the phone then went on to say that they always have problems with our order and they don’t want our business anymore. When asked if that was why they put tomatoes in our curry, to stop us from using them again, he said “yes”. Absolutely disgraceful and fortunately only an intolerance and not an allergy which could have been dangerous, however my husband spending Saturday evening being violently sick having been triggered by consuming parts of a food we asked to be excluded from our order wasn’t how we expected to spend our Saturday night.

Well I havnt used here for a few years after moving. But I'm so happy we have gone back. Ordered prawn balti/ chicken passanda/vegetable pilau, garlic nan. This is the best Indian takeaway I've ever had. Prawn balti was cooked to perfection nice thick sauce and not one bit oily. The pasanda had a lovely flavour and nice tasty spices. Rice was exceptional with lots of different vegetables & chickpeas. Will highly recommend and use every time from now on

My son ordered the Chicken Makahni with pilau rice and a keema naan, he said it was outstanding. The rest of us had gone for a kebab but I will definitely be back to try this one as it looked delicious.

Absolutely appalling customer service! We. Ordered via the app 1 x chicken biryani 1 x mixed bengal 1 x pilau rice 1 x garlic naan and 1 x prawn purée What we got was 1x bengal special 1 x indeterminate veggie dish 1 x chicken rice dish 1x pilau rice 1 x diy prawn purée dish it was not good! Sure someone else was missing what they ordered too! We did ring to complain but they were absolutely not interested! Such a shame as this has been our go to Indian takeaway over the years my advice don’t waste your money here!

Ordered at 5pm thinking it wouldn’t be manic and they’d have time to make fresh food boy was I wrong. Don’t get me wrong, everything was scalding hot like it’s just come out the microwave. However the meat (what there was of it) was dry and in tiny bits like dog food, tomatoes scattered on the top was the only fresh looking part. The naan breads weren’t even cooked it was just thick raw dough. Rice wasn’t even soft it was hard. I believe every single thing is prepared in advance and just put in the oven to heat it through before delivery. Not good enough considering how EXPENSIVE the place is. Took a couple bites and it all went in the bin. Wouldn’t even give it 1* it’s appalling.

I’ve had the pleasure of teaching in a school with fantastic Asian families who kindly bring beautiful, home cooked food in for a treat - our food tonight from Bengal Lancer was the best I’ve tasted from any restaurant. Truly authentic flavours, carefully and beautifully cooked with exceptional attention to flavour and freshness. Cannot recommend highly enough.

My husband visited this establishment while on business. The food was very salty and not edible, no other flavour could be tasted because of this. Very pricey for not great quality, won’t be visiting again.

We've been going to this takeaway for many years and 99% of those meals have been excellent but we feel that it must have changed hands (or chefs) this year. CAN ANY READERS SHED ANY MORE LIGHT? In recent months, the food presentation, appearance and taste are less good:today's pilau rice is wetter and greasier, vegetable side dish greasier, chicken main dish seems very much the base curry with little added to distinguish exactly what type of curry it is. Very disappointing.

Terrible customer service. Placed order online which was cancelled as they did not deliver to my area. This has now left us without the money for 3-5 working days. Manager said he did not have time to contact me to arrange an alternative means of collection. Now left with no food and no money to buy any from another restaurant. Absolutely disgusting telephone manner also. Do not use.

Ordered takeaway yesterday evening for collection. Only took 25 minutes and we'd all ordered for a family of 4, absolutely amazing! I loved how big the onion bhaji's were. I had a korma and it was excellent! Please do not change this recipe it was 10/10!we all loved the food and would definitely eat here again.

Very acceptable curry arrived with a nan bread that needed another 10 minutes in the oven - doughy and without a trace of browning. As we don't eat rice with our curry the nan bread is key so that was £20 down the drain.

After working a 12 hour shift i ordered 3 meals totalling £42.35, and was told it would be with me within the hour. An hour and a half later i recieved a call from the shop saying my order had been returned as i wasn't home.i told them i had been waiting so they sent it back out. Half an hour later i got a call from the driver saying he was outside (he was at the wrong address) when he finally arrived & i payed,he left. On opening the bags i found soggy luke warm dishes that had leaked all over. If i had wanted chicken ping i would have cooked it from the freezer & saved a lot of money. On ringing the shop i was asked " what do you want us to do"?

Been going her for few years now after trying lots of places after our all time favourite Royal Bengal closed in Stockton, Food wont ever be as good as bengal but Bhajis are good, Chicken dishes i do prefer chicken off the bone rather than cubed chicken to be honest

Ordered a take away, due to past experience i write down all items ordered and they repeat back to me, the meal arrives, not as ordered, then the fun starts. They say you didnt order that? then their attitude becomes not as expected. Order from this company and they deny you ordered what you did, then they put the phone down on you. Shame really as the food is good the customer service when they get it wrong is arrogant to say the least.

We love this Indian takeaway. Never had a disappointment. Delivered hot and quickly. Food is delicious and very good helpings and fairly priced.

The order was for poppadoms pickles, 2 chicken tikka masala, 1 chicken madras, 2 vegetable rice and 2 naan breads, the poppadoms hadn't been cooked fresh so was not crisp, some thing that is quick to cook and should not be done in advance, not a good start to the meal, the chicken in the 2 curry dishes was precooked and reheated making the meat quite dry, the sauce though had plenty of flavor. Being a retired chef, I predicate tasty fresh cooked food, this did not tick any boxes.

The worst curry I have ever had the displeasure of waiting two hours for. Even the dog wouldn’t eat it.

Waited 2 hours for order. Phoned and the person sore to manager about me complaining. Manager hung up when I complained....just rude and full of excuses. Don’t order.

We have had numerous take away from this place. Everyone has a go to for pizza, chinese, Indian etc. This is ours for Indian. Not the cheapest but certainly the best having tasted a few locally. We won't go anywhere else for the weekend treat.Definitely recommend.

We ordered a take away for delivery early on a Thursday evening. We were able to pay by card over the phone which is great and saves having to have cash.

Bengal Lancer never fails ..we have been using their services since they opened and have never been disappointed. Telephone booking is courteous and efficient. Service is relatively quick and delivery is an option. Lovely food.

We have been going to Bengal Lancer (Eaglescliffe) for several years now, and have always had delicious food. Recently, however, both the service and the food have been terrible. The meal was bland and lacking in the usual mix of spices and the peshwari naan was dry and drab. Really disappointed. When I phoned to explain, they didn't seem too bothered. I think we've lost a really good take-away.

Went to collect my order and when I got home realised my naan was missing. I rang up to let them know and was told he had spoken to the guy who packed it and the naan was there. I went through my order and told them it definitely wasn’t there. I even went to check my car to be sure. Nothing. I was told I could go back for another a naan which isn’t really convenient so I asked to have it taken off my next order. I was told yes and as I was starting to ask a question the gentleman hung up. Pretty appalling service. I know it’s only a naan at less than £3 but that’s not the point. Tried calling again but they are busy. Will try again tomorrow. Be sure to check your orders before you leave!

I've just eaten the worst Indian food I have ever had in my life. To say it was gross would be putting it extremely mildly.

We have ordered take-aways for delivery at 17:30 on a Tuesday and a Friday. The menu is extensive and clearly presented. The food is delivered for £1 and is always on time, accurate, hot and delicious.

We ordered a take-away for 2 early Thursday evening. The food arrived on time, was exactly what we ordered, piping hot and delicious. Great Service and we will be using them again.

Always very polite staff from the person taking your order to the lady who delivered it arrived within the hour as stated , it was hot and as usual tastes absolutly beautiful never had reason to ever complain good food and good value for money.

Ordered lamb madras and tandoori shashlik. The lamb madras was mild and mediocre. The tandoori tasted like Bernard Matthews tandoori flavoured chicken pieces in a vague tandoori sauce. The onion bhajis were half the size they used to be. I definitely won't be returning,

This is a must if your visiting the north and particularly a small village called Yarm. I'm a big fan of creamy curries and the Madu Murgh satisfies my every need whenever I'm visiting the area. The prices are also very reasonable and it delivers take away for those who do not want to drive to collect.

We had takeaway last week and couldn't fault it. Memsaabs Favourite, Chicken Dupiaza, Rice and Peshwari Naan. All was excellent, couldn't fault it at all. The freebies were great also. It was on time and plenty of meat in both dishes, very tasty. If you haven't tried this takeaway give it a try, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Used this Indian for over 10 yrs. Will not be using any more. The delivery time was supposed to be within the hr but in fact it was over 3hrs at which point I rang to cancel. Was told it had left the shop after an hr then it hadn't then on another telephone call driver was lost. After been cancelled it turned up 10 mins later & driver said he had jst been given it, was given 10% off the bill but the standard of food was awful, tasted like meat & gravy & not a hint of curry in sight...

Was recommended to try for a take away, won't be going back, we could not taste the curry due to the amount of salt in it, the mushroom rice was tasteless & we ended up throwing nearly all of the food away! It was a complete waste of money & wasn't cheap either

Food was cold, from telephone order to delivery there was no way on earth that any of this meal was cooked fresh. Dry lamb and chicken tikka without any taste at all, the tandoori chicken leg was old and dry and toughI I think that all the food for the week is cooked on Monday , and then used as and when required for the rest of the week. We used to use this takeaway quite often, sorry guys we won't be back

This is by far my favourite Indian Takeaway Restaurant. It is consistently good. There is a wide variety of food options and each one is as lovely as the next. Would definitely recommend. Prices are very reasonable and the portion size is more than enough.

This used to be one of the best Indian takeaways in Eaglesciffe. However, recently they have massively gone down hill with our last order (November 2014) having lots of bones and grizzle in the duck - Captain Pathila dish. The other dishes included a lamb pasanda and aloo mushroom which were not good quality compared to what they used to be with the lamb itself also being chewy. The only two edible things was the cheesy Naan and samosa...Needless to say we will not be ordering again, which is such a shame given than this used to be a good takeaway,

Have been using this take away for over 10 years, it's a real treat a take away and last nights was terrible, over cooked meat, watery sauces and I call I could taste in my sauce was salt, greasy rice. Yuk. Will never order again. And as an added bonus we both woke up this morning with dreadful tummy cramps.

As a repeat customer and always being impressed with the food and service I thought it fair to write a review. I am always pleased with the quality and tastiness of the food from here, the friendliness of the staff and the accurateness and speediness of the order. We will come here time and time again.

Just had a chicken madras, hardly any taste at all very tight with amount of chicken and very dry.The chips are a cheap frozen type and very few of them.A lot dearer than most take aways for a lot of rubbish,i think it came out of a tin

very friendly and attentive staff, Prices and food very good. At times though it is difficult to book. Example 10pm Tuesday tried to book by phone but no answer, after trying over a period of time gave up think it may be struggling to stay afloat.

it's take a way place... all are Indian food.... very good taste just like feel you are in India....and it's very good value for money...

Got a take away from this establishment, one of the dishes wa duck, hardly any meet at all and what they did have was left overs one bone!! There was no mention that bones were gona be in the takeout and was just inedible! And then missing some of our side orders! Horrible :-(

Best indian takeaway in the area, our favorite by miles.....I recommend the chicken chilli masala.Not the same as other indians in the area, far more taste and a lot less watery.

Used this take away for a number of years but have stopped recently. The food on the whole is very good and decent sized portions however unless you order something like a korma everything else tastes and looks much the same, i have ordered most things off the menu which like I said previously are tasty but I cant really tell the difference between one dish and the next.

Not very impressed , this place has gone down hill recently , we normally go regular for takeaways but we will be looking for an alternative for our Indian takeaways

Very good take away Indian that delivers too!Food always of a good standard and the place is kept clean and staff friendly.Does get busy over weekends so order early or you can have a wait of an hour plus.

Generally totally consistent with their food. Slightly disappointed this time but only because the naan bread was undercooked and my partner said his chicken ticka massala did not have the usual amount of meat in it. Will give them the benefit of the doubt though and try again soon. Portions are huge.

We have an Indian take away probably about once month and wouldnt order from anywhere other than Bengal Lancer. The choice available on the menu is really wide, the prices aren't too bad for an Indian, delivery is always within the hour and the food is always soooooooooo good. The "hot" dishes are actually "hot" as well so be warned!
