22 pound for sausage and chips regular cod and chips and 2 curry sauce is rather steep.however I wouldn't mind paying it if it was actually worthy of it..I hate to give such a negative review but got home which insidently is 2 mins away and opened it up to find chips whiter than tippex and stone cold the fish stank and was swimming in oil...times are tough but this I'm afraid went straight in the bin and I'd definitely not be returning or recommending this place sorry

Undercooked fish with the soggyest batter I have ever had. £12.50 for regular cod chips and curry sauce. I thought I would treat myself but I would of been better off throwing my money in the bin on top of the Cod I had to throw as it was unedible.

Man, this sorta thing just breaks my heart. This place used to be a family favourite, and yet when I went to see how it is nowadays and I'm slapped with outrageous prices. I couldn't justify the £3+ for a normal chips, and the £4.50+ for a large. I remember the days their large was a special thing, a portion for a group. But now that's it's own thing at a whopping £10. How you justify these prices are beyond me, but Clearly people still pay these crazy sums for takeaway otherwise you'd have closed down by now. I don't understand how people can claim that it's a good value for money, but I suppose that's just another part of the economy falling apart. TLDR: Those prices are highway robbery.

Great food and service. The Cod was very good.

I think it was just bad luck but our cod was undercooked so the batter was still raw underneath. A shame because the fish was good inside and tasty chips but couldn’t really eat the batter. Friendly service and fair price.

On this occasion I'm Sorry but the chips that I received were not cooked long enough, just barely cooked. I had to re-cook in the air fryer on my return home.

It’s surprising generally how poor most fish and chip shops are in Plymouth.Benbows is not part of that trend. Good quality, good size fish and generous chips. And friendly service. It’s up a side street, but worth seeking out.

What a find! Best chippy in Plymouth. Consistently great. Good portions of very well cooked fish & chips, and other traditional wares. Very friendly staff. A little off the beaten track but absolutely the best place for quality and value.

After reading the reviews I was looking forward to Cod and chips. Unfortunately the fish was soggy with little taste, the chips were dry with no taste. The salt and vinegar was non existent.

Visited based on the good reviews. I cant say its good unfortunately . Its several pounds more expensive than my regular chips shop , the portions are much smaller in comparison and the quality and flavour isnt as good. Wouldnt recommend or return

Walked away after waiting over 15 minutes. There wasn't a long queue but no one was asked about their order. Painfully slow

Have become a sort of regular in recent times, visiting once a week. Food is excellent, freshly cooked and plentiful; not the cheapest but really good value for money. Staff are friendly and place is spotless, Just heading there again for tonight's meal; shame about the rain!

Massive portions, fair price, tasty and cannot fault to be honest. Really good. Not been for ages but now I realise they have reopened shall be sure to go on a regular basis.

1st time visit to the chippy since new owner and I can say the quality of the food is 1st Class. We had Fish, Battered Sausage, Fish Cake and Chips with Curry Sauce. All batter was light and crisp and the chips were not greasey. Curry Sauce was lovely and creamy. We will be back

Well once again we had large cod reg chips and curry sauce and once again they didn't disappoint. They are by a country mile the best Chippy in the south west. They deserve to be Chippy of the Year. I have a Chippy 5 minutes away but I'd rather drive 15 mins to get to benbows Credit to all the staff. I would post pictures but I could wait to get my chops around it.

Tried Benbows tonight for the first time after being a regular at Francines. I can honestly say that Benbows now have 5 new customers. The service was excellent and they went above and beyond with every question we had regarding their food. As for the food, it was simply delicious. Fish was cooked to perfection, batter was dry and non greasy and when they say large......it is LARGE. Chips were lovely and same again, dry and non greasy. We couldn’t finish the portions we got. The sausages were delicious and the sides were very, very tasty. Spotlessly clean shop too. All in all it was a lovely first time experience in this little gem of a chippy and you can be rest assured we will certainly be back for more. Very impressed 10/10 well done.

The owners must have realised that they weren't up to their usual standard 22-10-2021. Impressive how they can get the Curry Sauce to set like a Jelly.

Absolutely fantastic chippy. Not been for about 10 years and it's just as good as I remember. Prawn curry on chips for a fiver is worth every penny. Brilliant staff who are really helpful and friendly! Definitely worth a stop there if in the area.

My Wife and I moved to Stoke in October 2020, having lived in Plympton. We used to order from Kingfisher in Plympton so moving out of the area we were keen to find a good chippy. When we realised Benbows was just around the corner we had to give it a go. I can honestly say that benbows is hands down the best chippy I have had in Plymouth, the staff are very friendly and talkative and the food is always piping hot, amazing quality and very tasty. I was even given free Brie bites last on my last visit as the owner didn’t want to waste any food. We have been visiting benbows for a while now and will continue to do so and we recommend to all our friends and family.

Been living in Bristol for 40 years cane back to Benbow street and it didn't disappoint. Fish was amazing, chips were great the best we have had for a very long time. The only issue was pickled onions were not in the bag ! Well done BSChippy we love you x

I couldn't fault a thing with Benbows chippy. Great freshly cooked food, extremely generous portions, good prices and very nice staff. The chicken curry has plenty of big chunks of real chicken - not the dodgy reconstituted stuff that barely resembles chicken that most takeaways seem to use now. All in all a very impressive small business that deserves plenty of custom- you'd be hard pushed to find a better chippy!

First time at this chippy, my goodness will definitely not be the last, superb fish and chips, best we ever had, delivered piping hot and on time. Really impressed, was over charged on my order without me realising, had a phone call within minutes to say they were returning the overpayment with the driver. Excellent, highly recommended.

I was introduced to this chippy by the wife as she experienced this chippy in the past. I have to say that the service that I received was top notch. Polite, courteous and very professional. Food made to order. Fish and chips were absolutely delicious and I experienced something I hadn’t had before from the special board - Pancetta and cranberry faggots. Ooh very filling. Around 1630pm I rang Benbow chippy to see if they deliver to which they said yes. Unfortunately when I rang later to give them my order because they were so busy all the delivery slots had gone. I said I would try another time. The boss immediately said he didn't want to disappoint me & that he would bring out the order himself. Within 30mins our food was with us , it was lovely & hot & just as good in fact it was better then I remember it. Thank so much , it definitely brightened up our day , we will be ringing you again of that you can be sure. A very satisfied customer ! 😀

Haven’t had Benbows for many years but as they keep giving away prizes to help the Plymouth Boot Bank charity we thought we would try them. So glad we did. I phoned ahead and ordered and the fish was waiting to be serve. Great portion sizes and a varied menu including kebabs and burgers if you wanted something different. We will be returning.

We decided to have fish and chips for tea so went to benbow street we thoroughly enjoyed the mealand the added extra was their own home made tartar sauce it was delicious they ought to sell it in jars it was very smooth and tasty we will certainly be going there again

The fish and chips from here was excellent. The cod batter was thin and crispy and the cod was cooked really well, it was cooked to order in addition to this it was not an oily mess like some other places. The chips were well cooked too with no under cooked chips either and the gravy had flavour to it as well. The portion size was really good to. I would defo come back and even go out my way to buy from here again. You can allso pay by card.

Really fresh, delicious and super tasty...menu includes nice alternatives to fish such as halloumi fries and chicken strips...both were fab. This a wonderful gem in Stoke. The staff are so friendly and the tartar sauce is home made! Big love Benbows!

Incredible fish and chips! Really fresh and high quality food. We loved the Mac and cheese bites which were so tasty and the homemade tarter sauce is lovely! Great service too!

The wait was not too long even during Covid times, the food was exceptional one of the best I have had the regular size chips was the equivalent of a large at others I have been too, the food was obviously fresh as it tasted absolutely lovely. We all enjoyed the food and strongly recommend this establishment!!

The new look Benbow Chippie serves the best portion of chips in Plymouth. I was really pleased to see nice recyclable packaging too. Friendly staff. Excellent.
